Emma Davies

I can't believe this argument over the reason why she left the series is still going on. Does it matter that much. Why not just say she left the series and leave it at that? TheRetroGuy (talk) 23:15, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Stick to the truth of the matter and people wont change it. (unsigned comment posted by Moonshank (talk), 19:15, 12 January 2009)

Declined, but will relist if dispute continues. TheRetroGuy (talk) 21:18, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Steve Winwood

Thank you for supporting me on this issue. It makes a refreshing change given our previous disagreements. Tom Green (talk) 23:52, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. I caught it while looking through recent changes and couldn't see why it had been deleted. I agree with you that Wikipedia should help to dispell myths and misconceptions so I reinstated it. TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:06, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Richy London

Hello, just wanted to correct the point about "Friday Night..." being one of the most popular shows - the BARB figures do not bear this out. Happy to discuss :-) Richylondon (talk) 22:42, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, yes ready the bit on Neutrality - particular the importance of verification - we need to correct the statement that the programme is "one of the most popular shows" as my link to BARB show it has not appeared in the Top 30 programmes in recent times. Richylondon (talk) 12:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Hmm I still don't see that one can describe it as popular if it does not appear in the top 30 programmes? Maybe you could say cult following? I think that it is important to mention viewing figures because that is how TV programmes are often judged/rated?

Richylondon (talk) 23:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

OK I've removed the phrase describing the show as popular as it veers from the facts and I can see no verification for this.

Richylondon (talk) 13:58, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Dates

Hi, I see you've been tweaking dates quite a bit. You might find this useful if you haven't discovered it already. -- Smjg (talk) 17:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Automated (Script Assisted) Date De-Linking

STOP: There is currently a injunction against using any bots, scripts, tools, or otherwise for mass de-linking of dates by the Arbitration Committee, For more information you can see: Requests for arbitration (Date De-Linking). Peachey88 (Talk Page | Contribs) 10:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Iran and the West

Hi Retro Guy. Thanks for your note, but you appear to have misread The Economist book review. Title of Azadeh Moaveni's book is Honeymoon in Tehran: Two Years of Love and Danger in Iran. See [[1]] where title of book is stated under 'Book details' on right side of page. See also amazon.co.uk [[2]]. The Economist merely yoked this together with the BBC TV series because both are accounts of Iran, 30 years after Khomeini's revolution, not because they have the same title. Economist writes: "An impressive three-hour television documentary and a new book (see article) mark the 30th anniversary of Ayatollah Khomeini’s revolution." best wishes Mick gold (talk) 07:19, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Kingsbury Colliery

Thanks for your contributions to the Kingsbury Colliery article. Paul Largo (talk) 15:04, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I'll see what I can find. One article that could be useful on Wikipedia is one for Daw Mill since the mine is still operating. Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do. Paul Largo (talk) 15:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yep. According to UK Coal Daw Mill is Britain's largest coal producer so definitely worth an article I think. Paul Largo (talk) 15:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Alternative counter

I noticed on User talk:Interiot that you were experiencing the same problems with the edit counter as I was. I've located another edit counter that you may want to try. Best regards --Eustress (talk) 03:45, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Prawo Jazdy

Not that it matters, but I had Prawo Jazdy watchlisted in case because I was sure someone was going to create an article there; something about a notorious and elusive criminal mastermind was what I thought was likely. Heck, I was tempted to do it myself.:) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:39, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes I'm surprised it hasn't happened, especially as people have been searching for it [3] :) TheRetroGuy (talk) 23:51, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
Yup, not the finest moment of our boys in blue. But funny. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 00:01, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you - your diligence is much appreciated

Hi RetroGuy, I have read your message about the work you have done on Around the World in 80 Faiths, the BBC2 series presented by Peter Owen Jones. Having just looked at the sight, may I say that your hard labours have borne much fruit - the article gives much better coverage of the programme now. Thank you for taking trouble over this article, and also for leaving a message on my userpages. All the best, and good luck with further edits to Wikipedia, ACEOREVIVED (talk) 00:11, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Gail Trimble

I have nominated Gail Trimble, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gail Trimble. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message.  – iridescent 15:27, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Adding - yes, I know you only created the redirect but the script automatically sends this to the original creator. As you've made a number of intelligent comments on the talkpage – even though I disagree with you as to her notability – you ought to know about the AfD if you don't have the page watchlisted. – iridescent 15:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
No worries. Thanks for keeping me up to date. I'll add my thoughts to the discussion. TheRetroGuy (talk) 19:15, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your contributions to the discussion, but unfortunately I've had to remove your parody of the Neil Sedaka song. While it was very amusing, I think there would be copyvio issues in leaving it there, so unfortunately it had to go. TheRetroGuy (talk) 14:08, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Song parodies are not a copyright violation. —Moulton 18:55, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough, though I'm not sure you can credit Sedaka, et al, as the song's authors. Interestingly I'm not sure what the law regarding parodies is in the UK. I think we just need to tread carefully with such things. TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
WP is an educational site, and it's important to support the educational mission. Whenever I do a popular culture parody, I take the time to identify the original artist whose work I am adapting as a parody. It's considered good manners to salute the creators of original items of popular culture that one is riffing on. —Moulton 21:22, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, just a thought, but if you're a regular contributor to Wikipedia, you should get yourself a user account on here. TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:20, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I do have a user account, but for reasons unbeknownst to me, after I log in, my signature comes up as in IP. Rather than diagnose the glitch, I just sign manually. —Moulton 22:02, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Hmmmm, I see. TheRetroGuy (talk) 13:05, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
It's an interesting story. I was indef blocked on the English Wikipedia by IDCab. You may have heard of them. Their chief leader, FeloniousMonk, was eventually toppled at ArbCom last year for egregious abuse of power. —Moulton 15:16, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

My own response to the AfD nomination of Gail Trimble

I saw your comments on the proposed nomination to delete the article on Gail Trimble. You can see from the comment which I added

tonight (Monday March 2 2009) that I tend to agree - I think that, rather than have just the one article on "University Challenge" and a separate article on this contestant, who is currently known just for her "University Challenge" success, we should start something like "Notable University Challenge people" and redirect the article there. So, my own personal preference would be for those who are saying that rather than delete the article, we should redirect or rename or something of that nature. You could read my articles at the article's entry on "Categories for Deletion" discussion. While I am here, many thanks you gave to the help with improvements to the Around the World in 80 Faiths article - you did a brilliant job there. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 21:12, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

ITC

Hello there! I've seen your username pop up in my watchlist several times over the past week or two, with edits to ITC Entertainment TV shows. There's a small wikiproject for ITC shows if you're interested in joining (Wikipedia:WikiProject ITC Productions), but either way I just felt like saying hello :) Howie 22:19, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

ATV Today

Hi. I've nominated ATV Today, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. Howie 01:45, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for writing such a great article and for contributing to the ITC WikiProject. I'll see if I can help you track down some references too :) Howie 01:45, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

No problem - you wrote such a lot and I think it deserves a mention on the front page! Howie 21:26, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Tommy Dorsey

the change to Tommy Dorseys B day is correct. I am his grand daughter, we share the same b day and my mother Susan Dorsey Kent pointed this incorrect date out to me. Also, her mothers B day is wrong as well as her middle name. Jennypolar (talk) 16:43, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Sarah Kennedy

This article says she is 68 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1164703/Radio-2-host-Sarah-Kennedy-overcooks-tanned-look.html and she certainly looks closer to 68 than 58. I do not believe that the IMDB is a reliable source of information for birth dates. Tom Green (talk) 12:33, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Comment on my page - agreed. Tom Green (talk) 22:25, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
I'll have a look for a more reliable reference in the next day or so. TheRetroGuy (talk) 10:54, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

DYK for ATV Today

Speedy deletion of National Sausage Roll Day

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages such as National Sausage Roll Day, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. JohnCD (talk) 10:43, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

National Sausage Roll Day

this is completely inappropriate. April Fools jokes are fair enough, but they should not take place in the mainspace. We are an encyclopedia, not a bunch of twelve year old hacks. Ironholds (talk) 10:44, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Well in the future I suggest you do resist it. If you agree it is completely inappropriate, why bother? You can see quite clearly all it does is cause needless disruption and extra work for others. Ironholds (talk) 10:47, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
