Prep builder userbox

Just curious -- is there a version of the userbox with a normal-square-sized dunce cap and not a giant one? It'd be funny, but I'd prefer to keep it in sync with my other boxen. (When did dunce caps of all things get associated with that, anyway?) (By the way, August is very soon. Could be even sooner, though.) Vaticidalprophet 07:49, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

@Vaticidalprophet: Howdy! I did want to, but I had a hard time with it – I could just crunch the aspect ratio of the image, but then it's not really dunce-cap-ratiod anymore. i could shrink the image, but then it's basically invisible at userbox size. I could probably still do the first, and we'd see how it looks :) I chose dunce caps tongue-in-cheek, since I remember someone remarking that we needed our own little hat for the collection. you gave me a mini-heart attack, August heralds finals week :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 18:57, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

DYK for We Didn't Start the Fire (Fall Out Boy)

On 7 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article We Didn't Start the Fire (Fall Out Boy), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Fall Out Boy's updated "We Didn't Start the Fire" mentions Myspace, but not the COVID-19 pandemic? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/We Didn’t Start The Fire (Fall Out Boy). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, We Didn't Start the Fire (Fall Out Boy)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

WikiCup 2023 July newsletter

The third round of the 2023 WikiCup has come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 175 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

Contestants achieved 11 featured articles, 2 featured lists, 47 good articles, 72 featured or good article reviews, over 100 DYKs and 40 ITN appearances. As always, any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! DYK - how to review?

Hi Leeky, I'm working on an article that might qualify for DYK, so I need to do a qpq. Are there any guidelines for how to assess an article for DYK? I've tried poking around on the DYK pages, but I keep getting hopelessly lost. Any guidance would be appreciated. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:09, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Mr Serjeant Buzfuz! Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewing guide would be a good place to start – and the {{DYK checklist}} is a big help as well. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 03:27, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Need some DYK nom help

If you could please look in on Template:Did you know nominations/Robert Todd Lincoln. The reviewer - voorts (who's been great to work with btw) - passed the DYK Nom (it's for an article I worked on that just got passed to a GA). The two of us just wanted to check that everything is filled out the way it's supposed to. (They had some trouble getting the green tick "activated".) Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 03:18, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Nevermind, I asked Kusma and they were able to help. Thanks anyway, Shearonink (talk) 22:19, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
@Shearonink: Sorry for the delay! I remember taking an initial glance and everything looking okay – what ended up being the issue? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 22:22, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
No worries - the reviewer & I just weren't sure if we had done everything right. RTL wasn't showing up as DYK/Approved - took a while. All is well now though, thanks anyway. Shearonink (talk) 23:41, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Glyn Johns article

Hello, I just completed a huge expansion for the Glyn Johns article, and had it reviewed and it made GA. So, I nominated the article for DYK. However, before I was able to properly address the reviewer's concerns, I noticed that it disappeared off of the nomination page, so I re-nominated it (with the same template Template:Did you know nominations/Glyn Johns). If they put it into the queue schedule, nobody let me know. I they withdrew it, then I was not given a fair chance to correct it. I was wondering if you could help me. DYK for Hayloft (song)

On 12 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hayloft (song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mother Mother's "Hayloft" received only niche radio play for more than a decade after its release, and then started pulling in a million streams a week? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hayloft (song). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hayloft (song)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

When was the last time I said you are the best?

Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on Crossfire. Nicely done. I remember watching the episode in real time (being a longtime The Daily Show fan especially after 9/11). Crossfire was originally a very good idea but had long since grown into a terrible self-parody worthy of Jane Curtain and Dan Ackroyd. Said Stewart to Carlson, "I'm not going to be your monkey." Very humorous is the photo of Carlson with an open-necked shirt; the bowtie was his trademark look and he was wearing a red one that day. He stopped wearing the tie after the episode. I'm not saying causality. Just an inadvertent incongruity. And a timely page creation. You are the best. BusterD (talk) 04:40, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

@BusterD: why thank you! :) it was genuinely surprising to see how important the press considered the incident at the time – and even more unusual to see that they still thought it was important 19 years later. Makes for a pretty solid NEVENT pass. Super funny to see respectable news agencies hold it over Carlson's head every time something bad happens to him because they know it annoys the crap out of him :P theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 04:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

Last Week Tonight Season 1

Hello again! I recently started Draft:Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (season 1), and I'm having some trouble getting some information. Firstly, the titles of the episodes are inconsistent across sources. When HBO moved everything to Max, seasons 8 and below just... went missing. See the HBO page here and a Reddit forum on the problem. Thanks, corporate overlords. The YouTube channel doesn't seem to have consistently posted the episodes like they do now, and even then, they only posted individual segments, not the whole episodes. Now, Amazon Prime does have the whole first season, but episodes are just titled numerically. Rotten Tomatoes is no help. BUT, TV Guide and IMDb (yes, yes, WP:IMDB, I'm aware) both list the episode titles as their main segments. I'm at a loss here, and was curious what your thoughts were, or if you had any better sources.

I do recognize that you've never worked on season articles (as far as I know), but I didn't know who else to go to for LWT-related topics. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 14:12, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, MyCatIsAChonk! Tricky, tricky, and I'll ping Epicgenius here (who's also written an FA in the area) to see if they have any input. Talk shows really aren't the best about having good episode titles – which is a shame, because as Dear Hank & John and Dimension 20's Adventuring Party show, there's so much good opportunity for chaos titling. You maybe just want to omit those, in favour of a quick list of topics covered? Or just episode number... couldn't tell ya much better than that, unfortunately :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 18:43, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping leek. @MyCatIsAChonk, I also would just describe the main topic of the episode. It seems that the List of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver episodes article already does this, using main topics instead of episode names to characterize each episode. Epicgenius (talk) 18:51, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Got it, thanks for both of your help! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:54, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on Crossfire you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of MyCatIsAChonk -- MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 14:23, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

The article Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on Crossfire you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on Crossfire for comments about the article, and Talk:Jon Stewart's 2004 appearance on Crossfire/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of MyCatIsAChonk -- MyCatIsAChonk (talk) 02:02, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks so much, MyCatIsAChonk! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:39, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Unapproving a hook

Hey, do you know how to move a hook from the approved section back to the nominations section? I tried to move one of mine back, but it appears it didn't work. :3 F4U (they/it) 20:29, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Freedom4U! You're gonna want to go to Template talk:Did you know/Approved, find where ever your nomination is transcluded, and move the transclusion back to Template talk:Did you know. That should probably do it! Let me know if you have any other questions :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 20:31, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! I didn't realize it would be that easy lol :3 F4U (they/it) 20:36, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
So um I moved it back into the "awaiting approval" section, but the bot just moved it right back. There's a checkmark is in someone else's comment, do you think if I removed it, it would stay? :3 F4U (they/it) 19:35, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
@Freedom4U: you'll want to add a new comment with either {{subst:DYK?}} or {{subst:DYK?no}} to prevent the bot from moving the hook. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 19:46, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
Ohhhhhh I see. I did that at first, but got confused when it wasn't moved. Then I moved it back, and got confused when it was moved back. Now I understand that I have to do both at the same time ahahahaha :3 F4U (they/it) 19:50, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
aha! there ya go :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 19:51, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Two things

Can you look at : Template:Did you know nominations/Alexandra Pinell? Also, I'm clearing a space in Prep 5 for a woman's soccer hook, hey, maybe even this one. --evrik (talk) 19:16, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

@evrik: sure (gonna take a few hours, i have other things to deal with today), and feel free :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 19:22, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
@evrik: you already have four bio hooks in P1, you gotta remove one so that they're spaced out when someone adds a women's soccer hook. Also, please try to keep the bottom prep empty, per the notice. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 19:31, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

I'm not trying to be dense about Template:Did you know nominations/Alexandra Pinell I just added another Alt. Feel free to edit the golazo sentence as you see fit. I was trying to make it more interesting. --evrik (talk) 02:48, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Did you see this request here [Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know&diff=prev&oldid=1166461338#Holding_area_for_25_July Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Holding_area_for_25_July] about the 2 or 3 hooks I want to change in Prep 4 and Prep 7. Can you make it happen? --evrik (talk) 02:48, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

I'm not super up on the July 25 shenanigans, unfortunately, but I might take a look later tonight. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 01:57, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

The other day I went through and rebuilt the DYK HoF. One of the things that stuck out in my mind was the Yoninah tribute we put together, so I added a new page to the HOF. One thing, I can only remember the Frank Sinatra set done a few years ago. Have there been others? If so, I'd love to know. --evrik (talk) 15:34, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Are my changes to this article long enough for DYK?

Hi Leeky, your favourite techno-ignoramus again. I managed to do my QpQ last weekend (for the Scottish Prayer book article), and now I've got a question: are my changes to a pre-existing article sufficient for the 5-fold increase rule? I tried to follow the DYK instructions to figure it out, but failed, as usual with tech stuff. I did look at the Xi counter thing, with its nice colour-coded graph wheels, and I think I increased it by 5-fold, but I'd hate to post it and get a technical foul. Would you mind looking at it for me?

The article is Harris Turner. It's another Canadian politician article. Here's what it looked like a couple of days ago, before I started working on it: Harris Turner, January 2023. If it passes the five-fold test, I'd like to do a hook about how although he was blinded in WWI, he became the Leader of the Opposition in the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly.

Hate to be a pest, but I really do lack tech skills.

Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 01:52, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

@Mr Serjeant Buzfuz: Tenfold, as a matter of fact! Nicely done :) the WP:DYKCHECK tool should be able to help you out for when you're on your own. Thanks for stoppin' by! theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 01:55, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Great, thanks! I'll get working on the hooks. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 01:58, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Done! It's now nominated. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 00:39, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
