- TheCuriousGnome, I just wanted to tell you that I think you are doing a great job on the History of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict article. Its SO much better now. I have a few minor things I'd like to change, but as a whole, I think the article is excellent. --GHcool (talk) 16:59, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. In my opinion there’s still a lot of collaborative writing/rephrasing/discussions which needs to be done until we reach a consensus over the article. I must say that I have a suspicion that if this article won’t become semi-protected, sooner or later a lot of random editors would try to delete major sections of it and replace them with biased information. either way, I still plan to add some more important information within the next days. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 21:20, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]I appreciate your common sense regarding the removal of the picture in the History article. It seems some of the regular editors of that think they can brush aside legitimate concerns. Indeed, incidents like this in the past was what made me disillusioned with editing these articles (i used to edit it quite a bit). Cheers Suicup (talk) 01:28, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Expanding template on History of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict
[edit]Re. IRC etc,
I've tracked down the problem; I'll fix it ASAP, leave it with me. Cheers, Chzz ► 06:17, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Now fixed. Article History of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict now shows the template expanded, by specifying
{{Campaignbox Arab-Israeli conflict|state=plain}}
and, for example 1920 Palestine riots shows it collapsed (no parameter given). - Sorry it took me a while; it was more complex than I anticipated. Cheers, Chzz ► 23:39, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help :) TheCuriousGnome (talk) 06:16, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

New type of decade article proposed
[edit]I have proposed on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years that we have two kinds of decade articles - one in which the events of a decade are listed ("List of events of the 1940s"), and another shorter decade that takes a top-down approach and explain the main themes and character of the decade ("1940s"). Please share with the community your views or suggestions.Kransky (talk) 10:59, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

WP:CSD nom of Palestinian poetry declined
[edit]There are only two valid reasons for speedy deleting a redirect, and "bad redirect" isn't among them. If you nominated an article and your only reason was "bad article" I seriously doubt any admin would go ahead and delete it. In the case of a valid search term such as this one, it's a better idea to look for a more reasonable target for the redirect as opposed to trying to delete it, which is what I did in this case. For redirects that do not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, we have deletion discussions at WP:RFD. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:13, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Israeli
[edit]I see you've inlined a number of references to Israeli so they really lead to "Israeli Jewish". That does not seem to make sense. Not all Israelis are Jewish. It is OK to say "Israeli Jewish", but the inline misleads the reader. It purports to reference only Israeli. But leads to a sub segment. I would suggest you either say both words in the article text, or revert those edits. Thoughts?--Epeefleche (talk) 18:35, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- Being Jewish means being part of both a religion and an ethnicity. The Israeli Jews group is a sub-group of Israelis and they do have their own distinctive culture and history (even though not all of them are religious). Just like the Arab citizens of Israel population group is a sub-group of the the Israeli population group and they have their own distinctive culture and history AND just like the American Jews population group is a sub-group of the American population group and they have their own distinctive culture and history (even though not all of them are religious).
- Nevertheless, the reason I think it would be better to just use an internal link to the Israeli Jews article instead of stating clearly in each article they belong to the "Israeli Jews" subgroup is because many of the people whom do belong to the Israeli Jews subgroup tend to refer to themselves only as "Israelis" - they do so mainly because this sub-group is the current majority in Israel and their nationality is more prominent in their identity than their religion (the current majority of Israeli Jews are also secular). Yet, this tendency does not mean they are not included in this subgroup. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 19:26, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, I'm well aware of the facts that Jews are both a nation, an ethnicity, and a religion. The issue is this -- if the indicted are Israeli Jews (which they are), say it. Don't hide it in an inline. Printed out versions of the information don't show what you have inlined to.--Epeefleche (talk) 06:15, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Current situation on the Decade Montages
[edit]Why should the montages stay status quo? I originally made montages for most of the pages. There has been changes to those montages by other editors and users, and I have accepted them, because I believe they are whats good for the montage. I myself revert the images back to there previous form sometimes, by most times I argee with the changes made. However, what is happening here doesn't seem very accepting. We seem to be reverting each others edits. Wikipedia is a co-operative community of users and people who want to contribute to this website. Now, I dont want edit wars too, yet could we be more open to changes in the montages. The discussion board seems very mute on the subject. You and I seem to be the only main contributors in this certain area. Maybe we could work on some guildlines of each of the montages, set up codes and rules of how montages are made. There could be a place to post a montage which you or others fell could work for a certain decade article. Everyone makes a different montage and we vote on which on we find better suited for the article that it is representing. I would like it if you could review the montages I have made and suggest some changes to them, if they are nessessary. I would do the same the montages you have designed, and then it would be a collaborative effort. Instead of reverting every change we make. I hope to hear from you soon. Israeli wars and armed conflicts
[edit]Ok, but let me tell you this: what you are doing it's not right, because you are adding airstrikes and one-day limited operations to a major armed conflicts' table. That's why I put some days ago "see other limited military operations". How can you mix in a same table something like "Operation Entebbe" or "Operation Opera" with large-scale conflicts like the Second Intifada or The retribution operations (both of them with many Israeli operations inside)??? What you are doing is very confusing. Besides, if you are adding one-day operations, I see no reason to avoid adding the Israeli limited attacks of the Sheeba Farms conflict. I hope you will explain your criteria soon.--AndresHerutJaim (talk) 06:05, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
There is no logic on your edits... if Operation Wooden Leg is included... why not the Israeli bombings of two ships in Libya??--AndresHerutJaim (talk) 06:09, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- In my opinion, due to popular demand we would need to present the most prominent attacks in this article before someone else would go ahead and do it (this would include prominent one day attacks as well). I think we should discuss how to present the data though - maybe have the "Armed conflicts involving the IDF not defined as wars" divided into several sub sections. Please express your opinions in the article's discussion page though. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 06:16, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Following your crazy criteria of adding one-day operations to armed conflicts... why should not be included Israeli naval operations like this one or this one??--AndresHerutJaim (talk) 06:14, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

The year in Israel
[edit]Hi, I just wanted to commend you on what was clearly hard work and a time consuming (but excellently done) job in creating the much-needed articles for each of the years 2002 through 2010 "in Israel". I have added Israel to the template for the general years (21st century), so that your articles now appear as links from the general article for each of the relevent years. - Thanks! I would appreciate any assistance you would be able to provide in improving these articles. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 12:35, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Although I do not have any particularly strong views on the subject, I note that you amended the edits made by me earlier today, and placed the prime minister ahead of the president in the list of incumbents. In terms of protocol, the head of state comes ahead of the head of government. Furthermore, I previously checked as to how this issue was dealt on similar listings by year and country, and in all cases, where, both head of state and head of government are mentioned, the former comes first, even where the head of state, as in Israel, is largely ceremonial. See, for example Malaysia. Davshul (talk) 13:26, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- In my opinion, placing the presidents ahead of the prime ministers in the incumbents section would create a false impression that the Israeli Presidents have more executive power than the Israeli Prime Ministers, while in reality the president of Israel is essentially is a ceremonial role while the real executive power is in the hands of the Israeli Prime Ministers. Nevertheless, if you wish, we could reach a decision about this through consensus by opening a discussion here. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 13:57, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey there! I went ahead an protected Israeli Jews for 18 days. Wording in Sabra Article
[edit]Greetings --
In the article on Sabra (person), I read language that I don't know how to decipher (see the Talk page). It appears to me, that this come from a CuriousGnome edit. If you are the author -- and you don't mind explaining the idea in Very Simple English, I would be happy to edit the article so as to make it more understandable.

Now reached 1967
[edit]First, may I again reinterate what a great job you're dong on the Year in Israel lists. I hope you do not mind my minor edits.
I note, however, that you have now reached 1967, and I query the use of the word "Palestinian", as used in later pages. Certainly until after the Six Day War and, for many instances, not until the Oslo Agreement (and for others, even beyond), was the single word Palestinian used in Israel, or in most of the World, to describe the Arabs in the West Bank (who were Jordanian citizens until 1967), Gaza and the refugee camps. I have therefore amended the word "Palestinian" to "Arab" in the subheading dealing with terrorism, to which I trust you have no objection. Cheers Davshul (talk) 09:42, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- The population group whom referres to themselves nowadays as Palestinians were referred to during the British Mandate of Palestine as "Arab-Palestinian" (while the Jewish Population were referred to during the British Mandate of Palestine as "Jewish-Palestinian"). I am not sure at which point they started to refer to themselves only as "Palestinian". Either way, I think we need to keep a section which would include only the terror attacks made by the Palestinians/Arab-Palestinians and refrain from calling that section anything else but "Palestinian terror attacks" or "Arab-Palestinian terror attacks".
- Anyways, I wanted to thank you for all your help in improving the content of the articles and any spelling/grammar mistakes I made. You're more than welcome to add more essential content to these articles. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 15:49, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Year in Israel series - Awards
[edit]Hi,
Thank you for your comments on my Talk page. There is another issue I would like to discuss with you. I had intended adding details gradually (based upon availability of time) of the recipients of the various Israeli Awards (e.g. Israel Prize, Bialik Prize, Dizengoff Prize, EMET Prize, Sokolov Prize, etc.) as well as Israeli recipients of international awards. As you may be aware, over the last year or so, I have spent a great deal of Wiki-time and effort on the lists of these recipents (in particaular the Israel Prize and the Bialik Prize), as well as a multitude of categories and creating articles on the various recipients (although, in this respect, much work still remains). I was proposing to create a new section entitled "Awards" on the Year in Israel pages. However, in the meantime, I note that, under the "Literature" heading, you have added all the recipients of the Bialik Prize for Literature. The question is how best to proceed. Many of the awards, in particuale the Israel Prize, do not fit under a specific topic. My suggestion is that we have an "Awards" section, in which we list the all the recipients of the various awards and that where the is an award that also falls under one of the other specific topics (e.g. Literature, Sport), the award to the recipient in question is also mentined there. Do you agree? Davshul (talk) 09:51, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- In my opinion all of that should fit into the "Culture" section of the articles in a similar way to the way it was done in the year in Israel articles on the Hebrew wikipedia - see example. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 12:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- The Hebrew Wikipedia year in Israel articles miss a large number of the awards where they do not fall within one of the regular Culture topics. My suggestion would catch all awards. Davshul (talk) 12:45, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- Name the awards which you think should be mentioned which would not fit under the "Culture" section. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 12:46, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- The Israel Prize awards given for lifetime achievement might not fit into a specific topic under culture. The Bialik Prize for Jewish Thought is another. Davshul (talk)
- I am still not sure if having a separate awards section would be the best thing to do. I mean, all the other similar years articles on the English Wikipedia only focus on the events, births and deaths. The reason for that is most likely so that these important articles would only focus on the most essential prominent information and that the problem with having “culture” sections is that sections such as those might become too big and become the main focus of the articles. For this reason I am not entirely sure if we need to have a "culture" / "popular culture" section in these articles at all. Is there any other pages in which we would be able to talk about this important concern (besides in my talk page) together with many other Wikipedians who share this interest before we go ahead and add any more information to these sections? TheCuriousGnome (talk) 13:17, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Inaugural Israel Prize award
[edit]The article Ofer Shechter has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Mbinebri talk ← 16:48, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, good editing with the Template:Year in China. Impressive that it can add category by itself. Is there anyway you can make the years in the left show increasing order, so 1968 is at the top, then 1969, and finally 1970 at the bottom? Thanks. Benjwong (talk) 18:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- I am glad you liked it. I myself believe that the way the years are currently presented is the best (this is also the same way they are presented in many other years in countries articles on wikipedia). If you still insist, please open a discussion on the matter here and we'll decide based on consensus. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 19:08, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
20XX in China
[edit]I don't see why moving "20XX in China" to "20XX in the People's Republic of China" was necessary - the articles include ROC events as well, such as the inauguration of Ma Ying-jeou. The list includes events from the PRC, ROC and Hong Kong, and not just the PRC. In our case, "China" refers to the Greater China region, and not solely the PRC. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 05:01, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- For the same reason we have a 2010 in the United States article and not 2010 in North America OR the 2010 in Israel article and not 2010 in the region of Palestine. All events which are not related to the PRC should be moved to seperate articles. If you still insist that I am wrong, please explain why you think it is best to present all events of a region instead of a country. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 05:10, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- Question is how you interpret it. To some, China is a country. To others, China is two disputed states and four territories. I tend to see China as a country personally, and I think there are other editors out there that think likewise. -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 05:46, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- We could solve that by creating disambiguation articles for all the "XXXX in China" articles which would contain links to "XXXX in the People's Republic of China" articles, "XXXX in the Republic of China" articles, etc. (similar to the page China (disambiguation)) TheCuriousGnome (talk) 05:56, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- There wouldn't be a lot to put in the articles for ROC and Hong Kong, though. Not much tends to happen there (and/or gets reported in Wikipedia). Currently we don't have a lot of entries for ROC and Hong Kong, and they squeeze in quite well in the list of China events. Do you think it is necessary to start the ROC and Hong Kong articles? -- 李博杰 | —Talk contribs email 06:08, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- For ROC - yes, for Hong Kong - no (Hong Kong is one of two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, therefore in my opinion the Hong Kong events should be added to the "XXXX in the People's Republic of China" articles). TheCuriousGnome (talk) 06:12, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

- To be honest the page move from "XXXX in China" to "XXXX in PRC" should not have been done without asking the people at WP:China first. And HK or Macau events should not go into the timeline unless it affects PRC. Same in reverse. If anything is missing is a Macau timeline. Benjwong (talk) 04:12, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I will create the disambiguation pages in ""XXXX in China"" instead of the current redirects in a short while. Stay tuned. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 04:19, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:51s63tLjGBL.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:51s63tLjGBL.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Non-free material usage notice
[edit]Hi. I discovered that you used the photo File:Tank Man (Tiananmen Square protester).jpg in the article 1989 in the People's Republic of China. However that usage is irrational and was removed by me. Because that image is licensed and was uploaded to Wikipedia under the fair use term. Which means its legal usage in Wikimedia projects is very much limited. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Non-free content and check the description page of every file before embedding them into the article to avoid any misuse. - Indeed. These list have been in a very poor state until now. I am trying to improve them as much as I can. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 13:24, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Great. One thing though, can you please remove the opening first columns like this? Release date should be in the final column under a Notes/release header, unless of course you do have the release dates like 2010 in Israeli film. OK? Dr. Blofeld 13:25, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
- I believe the data should be presented the same way it is presented here and here. I plan on adding all release dates as well soon in the same way they are presented in 2010 in Israeli film. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 13:31, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi TCG - I noticed you've added a list of missing films directly into the category space of Category:Israeli films. This isn't usually accepted, so I've moved the list to the category's talk page (good to have the list though - esp. when trying to find out what's missing!) I've also started a stub for the film The Human Resources Manager . Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 17:15, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Deleting of sections
[edit]Are you aware of my comments taking place in the discussion area of this template? Maybe they just gotten overlooked, but I really think these points should be addressed. There are factual fallacies to what the revision you support is purporting. asad (talk) 02:10, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
The article Years in the Republic of China has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Potentially infinite article, with no indication of the particular importance of these years, or why they specifically relate to the Republic of China. Ultimately, it's just a list of 'all years ever'.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Korruski (talk) 21:58, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Adyghe
[edit]Hi. Well, English wikipedia has a one article about Adyghe/Cherkes nation but a lot of wikipedias has more, like Russian (ru:Адыгейцы, ru:Черкесы), Lithuanian (lt:adygai, lt:čerkesai), Polish (pl:Adygejczycy, pl:Czerkiesi), etc. So, there are two ways: we can sort articles by their names as I done or we can leave interwiki mess till all wikipedias merge or split articles about this nation/group (what doesn't seem to be soon). Hugo.arg (talk) 19:22, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- The Hebrew wikipedia only has one article - there is no reason the English article shouldn't have an interwiki to that article or to the other wikipedias which have only one article about the subject. (we can leave the Russian, Lithuanian, Polish ones alone until they solve this problem if they choose to). TheCuriousGnome (talk) 19:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Kingdom of Semien
[edit]Hello, I just noticed this article you created. My area of concentration on Wikipedia happens to be Ethiopia-related topics. (No real reason why "Ethiopia"; I just felt someone needed to do it.) I have a few questions you may be able to answer about this topic:
- (1) is "Kingdom of Semien" the name this polity is best known by in English? Or is that what it is known by in Hebrew? -- llywrch (talk) 23:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- That is the name which is mostly used by the Beta Israel community in Israel and by the Israeli academy members. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 14:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- (2) would you know which edition of James Bruce's work is being cited here? There are two important ones: his first edition, published in 1790, & the third (revised & edited by Alexander Murray) which was published in 1813. -- llywrch (talk) 23:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- I am sorry, I do not have that information. You could ask that in the discussion page of the article and maybe someone would be able to answer that in the future. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 14:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
- (3) In the section "The kingdom's name", a region "Vogra" is mentioned; any chance this might be another form of "Wegera/Wogera"? Otherwise, I've never encountered this placename before, & would appreciate any information you have about it. Thanks. -- llywrch (talk) 23:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed thats a spelling mistake - thanks for the notice! in that section I mention the Wegera and Dembiya regions - you can see them on this map. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 14:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

- This event is taking place in Israel where Hebrew is the main language of the media. Please use Google translate or consult with a native Hebrew speaker to verify the sources. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 04:50, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- I presume that you are referring to instances where English language sources are not available. I would also add that Google translate is particularly unreliable when translating from the Hebrew and may be almost incomprehensible for someone without any knowledge of Hebrew. Template:Terrorist attacks against Israelis in the 2000s
[edit]There seem to be many redlinks in the template "Terrorist attacks against Israelis in the 2000s". I'm not very familiar with the subject material, but are all of the articles linked "Major"? Would it make sense to break down the template into sections by year or some other way? Becky Sayles (talk) 05:43, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Becky. I only added the most major attacks in the template (worst suicide bombings, shooting attacks, assassinations and kidnapings committed against Israeli targets in the 2000s). A full detailed list of all attacks can be seen in the links supplied in the bottom of the template. I myself was also amazed that most of these articles have not been written yet. Therefore I am currently attempting to write all the missing articles. Following your comment I decided to reorganize the information in the template. hope you like it better now. Can you add footnotes to Matzuva attack?
[edit]Greetings, I saw you added one footnote to Matzuva attack, but given that you have several news references, can you actually cite the specific info in the article to the source from which it comes? MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:33, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- I am not sure how to do that correctly. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 01:44, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Read the source article, note which sources validate what claims in the Wikipedia article. Each time there's a section of the WP article from, say, Source Y, you close out that section with:<ref>Source Y citation</ref>. There's an auto-generator called RefLinks, so for now just put the http:// link inside the ref tags, and I can hit the button and have them all converted to nice, clean citations afterwards.
