Image copyright problem with Image:Burma MerguiArchipelagoMap.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Burma MerguiArchipelagoMap.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECU≈talk 21:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Thaimoss. I knew his new command was approved, just wasn't sure if his rank promotion was immediate, or at a later date. Thanks. GoodDay 03:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Your Thailand link
[edit]Is there anything wrong with the link, explains the history in a different light under external links, let it be. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.210.117.59 (talk) 00:11, 6 February 2007 (UTC).
- I've removed that link to the Assumption University of Thailand "History of Thais" because it doesn't belong here. The nice piece on their web page doesn't materially contribute to the wikipedia article Thailand. The article History of Thailand contains complete supporting articles on Sukhothai kingdom, the Ayutthaya kingdom, etc. Additionally, the external cite is a blend of its very abbreviated history of the country of Thailand with a very loose history of the Thai people, which is covered in Thai people. - Thaimoss 23:53, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Rocket Festival Update
[edit]Thanks, but now I need to upload pix of the murals at the BangFai Museum. I know how to do that, but not how to put them in the article. Also, I would like to show you a table of the Thai consonants I made up myself, that shows how the letters relate as ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, that works great for alphabetizing [which you may know the Thai can't do.] Lee 11:32, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Thai vs. Lao festival
[edit](Thai festival - ref Thai language first) Someone else put the Lao name before the Thai; I left it that way when I rewrote the intro to break out the long-overdue Etymology and History paragraphs, as it is NOT a Thai festival, nor even Tai, but Lao. I'm not going to revert you, however, as we've wandered into a semantic jungle where we could wind up hacking each other instead of overgrowth. Strictly POV & OR, I think that the Thai regard it as a custom of ignorant Lao rubes. In Kalasin, the Putai [damned if I know how to spell that] have their own Bangfydarai บั้งไฟตราย Danger Bang Fy made of a steel pipe. A friend gave me an MPEG of one exploding about 30 m. high and starting fires on the ground from molten metal. Damned if I know how to work Bangfydarai into the present article without OR. Nor, for that matter, more conventional rocket festivals in the Shan states.
- More OR-POV: Thai ไทย is a 2-syllable word, the second of which has been elided. Sethaputra gives only one example where ย is pronounced: Thaiyathan ไทยทาน offerings, gifts, charity, Synonym Than ทาน, which begs the question of what the middle syllable means. (But it does remind me of Greeks bearing gifts.) He says Tai ไท, ไท้ means a lord, a boss; Penthai เป็นไท to be a a lord or a boss. Ayutthaya has a hotel named ไทยไท which the owner told me meant "We Thai." As for the word Lao, it is so similar to a host of words with tone, vowel and consonantal variations (lao, rao, how) that I think its underlying meaning is "us." Discussion on Ahoerstemeier talk page: Stop the madness - Thailand
Ahoerstemeier, where do I go to open for discussion, request, recommend, what-have-you a restriction on that Thailand article. You and a couple others are forever undoing vanadlism by ip addresses. What is the proper approach to pursue having edit of the Thailand article restricted to account-holding users? Seems like a never-ending battle, and every single case I've noted has been anonymous (ip). Or, am I making too much of it? - Thaimoss 00:31, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, Thailand is a relatively popular target for stupid vandalism, but it's usually fixed very fast as well as there are a lot who monitor that article. I don't know if the amount of vandalism is high enough for a semi-protection, but you can always go to Wikipedia:Requests for protection and add it there. I normally only use my admin-rights to do semi-protection (or full protection) when an article is targeted several times within one hour, not for about one or two a day. andy 11:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Tuskegee Airmen
[edit]Signaleer, Provided citation. Fact-stranger-than-fiction... the March 1945 article is cited as the source of the legend of the Tuskegee Airmen not having lost any bombers, and (as reported in the current Air Force assessment) is the same date that some bombers actually were lost. The amazing coincidence, to me, is that there were only a handful of dates, like 5, out of the many missions they flew (the AF report contains a list, and the articles cite them) where any were lost. That an article headlining "no losses" would appear on one of those days is pretty amazing. - Thaimoss 21:53, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Not citing valid information will result in it being removed from the article. -Signaleer 21:56, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Signal, I think I'm missing your point. The information was solid, and references within the article pointed to the sources from which the information I entered was drawn. Yeah, I could have provided an explicit citation for the information I inserted in the "facts and trivia" section, and after you pointed it out, I did. Is there something else you're taking exception with? - Thaimoss 22:40, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Barge-Major-Procession.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Barge-Major-Procession.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 12:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Louis Vuitton Cup 2007
[edit]Noticed your edit which changed the sequence of the article to run backwards from the final. The books which will get published reporting this event will not report the events in reverse chronological sequence. It is illogical way to document sequential linked events. RE: International School Bangkok
[edit]Thaimoss, I agree with your points, but the operational changes cannot be cited, nor can Rashima's cocaine results, as the administration have tried to downplay the strong concentration of drinking and drug use among students. I understand that such issues are present at many schools, but in the last two years, these problems have become more and more frequent and prevalent, and I cite Rashima as a evidence of what the current administration is doing. I understand the need for NPOV and I just wanted to bring up some of the issues and concerns of parents and students of the school. The 7-11 hours have changed because although the store is outside Nichada, it's still in walking distance/motorcycle distance from the houses in the area. I have proof that these hours changed due to the amount of liquor being sold, but unfortunately, none of this can be cited. For reference, Rashima was cited during her senior year last year, while she was valedictorian. Her position was taken away, but then given back not soon after, for reasons beyond my understanding. FOr now, I have taken the section out, until anyone else can find substantial backing to my information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enchinda9 (talk • contribs) 18:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Thai baht
[edit]I made some changes to Thai baht I wish you would check out. Also, the present article has a remark#4 Many commemorative 10-baht coins have been made for special events. None are shown, but I have gathered nine from change and had them scanned today. I got one of them in the row upside down, so will have to cut-and-paste to get individual images if I can't figure out how to turn that one around. That would be a lot of work if they're fair-use-rationaled into limbo. Pawyilee (talk) 14:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Crown_Royal_-_Box_Bottle_Bag.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Crown_Royal_-_Box_Bottle_Bag.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 12:05, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16
[edit]The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)
The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)
The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.
If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.
(You have received this posting because your user page indicates that you live in Maryland or DC. --EdwardsBot (talk) 02:30, 10 July 2009 (UTC))
Crown Royal discussion
[edit]I'm new to Wikipedia. You seem to be experienced and not strongly biased. In the Crown Royal discussion, there were talks about NPOV (advertisement), price (USD vs. CAD), and taste (smoothness). Here's a summary of my personal experience with Crown Royal -- perhaps you can update the article with whatever you consider relevant:
The following info. comes from my 2009-JUN experience at a free tasting conducted at a wine store in Hawaii.
- Event prices: Crown Royal $20; Special Reserve $50; Cask No. 16 $70; XR $120; gift set with cherrywood stand (illuminates each bottle from below) $260. Bottles are 750 mL, or ≈25.36 fl. oz.; prices in USD; add HI State General Excise (sales) Tax of ≈4.7%. {See [1] for USD->CAD conversion.}
- My tasting notes: The Cask No. 16 and XR were smoother than the other samples, especially when "doused" or "iced" (as recommended by master blender, Andrew McKay). The XR had a creamy mouth-feel, with complex flavors opening up over time. {Taste closely matches a Wine Enthusiast review I just found, although I would not use "pastry, paraffin, sinewy," but "subtle shortbread, vanilla, dried fruits and nuts." See [2] and [3].} The Cask No. 16 had a more intense whisky flavor and stronger nutty fruit component than in the other samples.
For $125.64, I got the XR in a red velvet pouch with gold drawstring, inside a big red box. Later, I gave it to my friend who enjoys Johnny Walker Blue Label and Remy Martin XO. He says it's the best whisky he has tried, and agrees with the WE rating of 100 points.

What do I know? I am not a big fan of whisky, vodka, gin, tequila, cognac, etc. since they tend to anesthisize my tongue, ruining any wine tasting for me. Delete this discussion, if desired. No flames please. DL808 (talk) 09:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Kop khun krap--thank you so much for your note to me regarding editing Pattaya. Your credentials are extremely impressive! It is gratifying that a man of your intellect and ability gives so much time, gratis, to Wikipedia. I own a beautiful condo near the sea off Pratumnak Road. I use that for my home base for my humanitarian efforts in the region. I spend about 6 months every year in southeast Asia. The task of editing Pattaya seems daunting. I have been trying to steer it away from being a travel advertisement. I don't want to trigger another vandalism alert, so will do it in small steps. Having lived there so long, I know quite well the offical local spelling for the names of areas near Pattaya, and have been revising them. I have a friend who found out that the English spelling of her Thai name that she had been using all her life was quite different from the government spelling when she applied for her passport! Such is the problem in a country where most names have never been written in English letters. If you have time, please visit the article from time to time, and please give me your opinion as to what you feel is important to the article. Can you write Thai script? I envy you! I speak Thai nit noy, but to read and write Thai is beyond me. Rak-Tai (talk) 00:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
