David Barnes (politician)

Hi there, I see that David Barnes (politician) has a revision history of two entries (both by you), hence I can't move David Barnes (New Zealand) to this name (who wasn't a 'New Zealand', but he was a 'politician'). Can you help? Schwede66 23:46, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Tassedethe (talk) 00:15, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Schwede66 00:24, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but the composer gets 551 mentions in Google Books, the footballer gets one. Clearly WP:PRIMARY, Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:59, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved the disamb, but the article now needs a G6 uncontroversial move to restore, can you do that please? Thanks. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:02, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Restored per WP:BRD. I note that the composer has received 164 hits in the last 3 months, and the footballer 152 (despite not being linked from Svend Nielsen). By that measure there would be no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. There is also the Olympic wrestler Svend Nielsen (wrestler). If that page is ever created WP:TWODABS would not be relevant. Tassedethe (talk) 04:12, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, well happy to leave Svend Nielsen (wrestler) redlinked on disamb for the inevitable. If we went by hits the whole world would be football first wouldn't it, given that Wikipedia is a sports blog with a small encyclopedia as an appendix ;). In ictu oculi (talk) 04:19, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
An American sports blog at that :) Tassedethe (talk)

Could I have some help here?

Hello, thank you for your notice about moving pages. I am trying the method you suggested, and it will not let me because it claims the page already exists. I am trying to move Mark Meadows (politician) to a new page called Mark Meadows (Michigan politician) because there is more than one Mark Meadows that is a politician in America. Any help would be appreciated! Thank You! NBA2030 (talk) 20:13, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to move the page because at the moment there is no other page on Wikipedia about a politician. Mark Meadows (North Carolina politician) is a redlink. If you create an article for that person then I'd be happy to move Mark Meadows (politician). Please note that candidates for political office are not always regarded as notable. Please see WP:POLITICIAN for details. Tassedethe (talk) 20:28, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Why is it not on the disambiguation page, then? Thanks for saying, though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.3.251 (talk) 02:30, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is on the disambiguation page but it is listed under ==Media== not ==Music==. Tassedethe (talk) 02:58, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tassedethe, thanks for the clenaup. Reference is also made to a book from 2004 by http://books.google.com/books?id=1LbGCVlFtA4C&printsec=frontcover. Should it be added to the disambiguition page too?

I've added this one too. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 15:24, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

big problem

Hi, I have a big problem. The article Schengen Area has two maps. The first one is about current area (without internal borders.) The second is about prospective members, EU members outside Schengen and so. But the people on the discussion page keep vandalizing the map insisting there is no consensus (and they call their friends and buddies to change the weight of debate). How can I find a consensus if there are people manipulating the debate, and how can I make the Schengen Area map in accordance accepted as in NATO, EU and so... Thank you.--88.240.24.124 (talk) 14:31, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any evidence of vandalism, merely disagreement amongst multiple parties. You can't make anybody do anything, I would suggest you start a new discussion on the article talk page. Perhaps a WP:RFC request will bring more viewpoints to the discussion. Tassedethe (talk) 14:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a search with the contents of List of Yorkshire County Cricket Club captains, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Category:Yorkshire cricket captains. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. VWBot (talk) 20:13, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is there some reason that you think that Bill Davis, the 18th premiere of Ontario, didn't do avant-garde dance in NYC in the 60's?

List of zombie films

Hi! I have reverted your change to the page List of zombie films. You wrote "When the film is a red-link it doesn't seem likely that the director is notable and there fore no link is probably a better choice" and I agree with this. But this page A HUGE TABLE and all disambiguation-links must exist only for one reason - helping for fast finding problematic places in this list for future improvements (by typing "disamb" and search). With your edition such thing is impossible. Thanks, for resolving some disambiguation-links and if you do not agree with previous then do undid and this edition will be final for disambiguation-links. Creating hatnotes and disambiguation pages

Hello, Tasse, I hope you are well. I was wondering if you might be able to help me resurrect WP:Suggestions for name disambiguation. There are so many pages that need to be created still, and this is a really useful tool for identifying them. It can be set to pick up on every little detail (but this tends to get false positives and leave editors bogged down) or to just identify missing entries on dabs. User:Quadell ran it, but doesn't edit as much as he/she used to, and so no longer has the 'key'. I believe you need to be an admin to do this. I don't think there's much work involved in generating the lists (although I might be wrong!), and Quadell could help advise. Anyway, thanks for all your hard work on here, and let me know if this is something you think you could help with. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:48, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boleyn, thanks for considering me, but this is a little out of my area. I've never run a bot nor do I use AutoWikiBrowser. Perhaps someone like User:JaGa, who runs DPL bot, or User:R'n'B who runs RussBot would be more suitable. They both work on disambiguation topics. Good luck and happy editing. Tassedethe (talk) 11:38, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for considering it, and thanks for recommending some good editors. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:20, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of Documentarys

Hi there, I have seen your edits on the List of Documentarys over the last couple of years so I thought I would ask you... what do you think of merging all the tables into one huge table.--intraining Jack In 01:22, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Such as this page List of documentary films? I would have thought a single table would make it more difficult to navigate. But I don't have strong feelings either way. Tassedethe (talk) 01:25, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy chief. You moved Take It From Me (Paul Brandt song) to this title last year. We also have Take It From Me (The Commodores song) and another song (by Platinum Blonde) listed at the Take It From Me disambig page. There's an album there by this name also. None of the songs seems particularly like a primary topic to me, so I'd like to undo your move and redirect the (song) title to the disambig page. - TB (talk) 16:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, there are 2 capitalizations going on. Lower and upper case "from". So there is a second dab page at Take It from Me. Based on this search [1] lower case is prevalent. You can definitely move the Paul Brandt song, and redirect the (song) title. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 17:56, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
All done, cheers. - TB (talk) 20:22, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Albert Chadwick (footballer)

Hi there - hope you don't mind but I've reverted your move of Albert Chadwick (footballer) to Albert Chadwick (footballer born 1865) as it was unnecessary disambiguation. Regards, GiantSnowman 18:54, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are mistaken. Albert Chadwick is also a footballer. Therefore Albert Chadwick (footballer) is ambiguous, that is why I moved it to Albert Chadwick (footballer born 1865). Tassedethe (talk) 18:56, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It'd make more sense to move both rather than just one. GiantSnowman 19:07, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say that Albert Chadwick is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, the other player seems (relatively) minor. Whether or not Albert Chadwick is moved Albert Chadwick (footballer) is still ambiguous. Tassedethe (talk) 19:11, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alberto Fortis

Before you deleted Alberto Fortis (disambiguation) I think you should have discussed it with me as I was the only contributor to the page and also the main contributor to the two other "Alberto Fortis" pages. There is no need to reply to this as I don't mind the delete (if I did I would have restored it), but I do think that in future you should not delete pages without first notifying the major editors of the page of your intent. This is because unlike editing a page, deleting a page is not easily reversible for an ordinary editor.-- PBS (talk) 22:34, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. I will always revert a move or deletion if another editor requests it. That deletion seemed absolutely clear cut, there was no point to the page. There is a specific deletion template for that particular circumstance {{db-disambig}}. However I will be more careful to check if there is main contributor in future. Thanks. Moving Arnold Jackson to Arnold Jackson (athlete)

As the fictional character seems to be of equal notability, I'm not arguing with the move. Could you do me a favour and revert all the moves you made today on Ron Blaauw and Ron Blaauw (restaurant)? Within a few minutes I will launch Ron Blaauw (chef) and it would be nice to have the disambiguation page back in place. Thanks in advance! The Banner talk 22:34, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Tassedethe (talk) 22:35, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I had the idea that red links were only removed from disambig pages when the creation of the article was unlikely. But you did also move Paul van Waarden. Could you revert that too? The Banner talk 23:53, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If there is only one article then there is no need for a disambiguation page. If there were two articles then you could add a redlink to a disambiguation page (assuming it was notable or likely to be created as you state). So in this case you would start the restaurant article at Paul van Waarden. If the chef article was then created then the page could be moved to create a dab page. On the basis that the chef page is going to be created I will restore the dab. Tassedethe (talk) 00:02, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Curious as to why...?

Nice 'page notice'. Cuppa' Earl Gray & some Danish shortbreads for me please.

I'm curious as to why you made (this) reversion?

I was updating links after converting Manjit Singh into a disambiguation page. I checked a coupla' random links on your list and they dealt with football and rugby personalities so I assumed you'd originally meant to link to the footballer. Kinda' thought "/daball" might stand for 'da' ball' as well. Upon revisiting I checked a few more links and found that my small sample hadn't actually been indicative of the whole.

So now I'm curious as to what your list is about.
[I understand that it's a subpage in your user space and may well be none of my business but if you don't mind sharing feel free to enlighten me.]

BTW the previous incarnation of "Manjit Singh" is now at "Manjit Singh (armament scientist)".

p.s. OK if I 'borrow' that tea and biscuits template? (If 'yes', how would one do so?)

--Kevjonesin (talk) 21:11, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You'd almost worked it out, 'daball' is actually 'dab all'. I'm interested in finding pages where there is an article Foo (dab) that isn't linked from Foo. I'm most interested in people pages so I started by finding all pages that had common professions as disambiguators. That is why there are a lot of footballers. But I also did actors, politicians etc. If I had any programming skill I'm sure a bot or something would be far better :-)
The welcome message is located at User talk:Tassedethe/Editnotice. Feel free to copy it for yourself. If you edit User talk:Kevjonesin you'll see there is a redlink top right called 'Page notice'. Tassedethe (talk) 22:13, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I started looking into making the change just before edits were frozen.--Kevjonesin (talk) 02:11, 4 May 2013 (UTC)][reply]
Eventually, I manually created "User_talk:Kevjonesin/Editnotice" and copied the code from yours to it after which the "A warm welcome..." message successfully displayed in talk page edit mode. The "page notice" hyperink also appeared at this point as well. I also added Template:Editnotice userpage to my user page by creating "User:Kevjonesin/Editnotice".

Hi Tassedethe, I've stumbled across a number of cases where you replaced links to disambiguation pages with links to redirects to those same disambiguation pages, thereby introducing an indirection. An example is replacing links to Alexander Müller with links to Alexander Müller (disambiguation), a redirect. Can you explain? Thanks, --EnOreg (talk) 15:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:INTDABLINK and WP:HOWTODAB. Basically if a link to a disambiguation page is needed (for instance in a hatnote) then it should always have "(disambiguation)" in the link, even if that is a redirect. There is a project dedicated to cleaning up links to disambiguation pages Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links. By always linking via the redirect this shows that a link is deliberate and doesn't need to be fixed. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 16:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thanks. You may want to give an edit summary to this effect when you make such edits to clarify what you're doing. Cheers, --EnOreg (talk) 10:02, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Sauthoff (American football) and Harry Sauthoff

The two look to line up so IMO a merge would be appropriate here. Nice catch! – Connormah (talk) 23:33, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Carl Manneh XFD

Thanks for the XFD heads-up. I have added more references and plan to add on further to the article in the future. Again, thanks. smileguy91talk 17:14, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please see Template_talk:Cathead_English_people_by_place#Quibble and hold off any similar renamings pending discussion there. – Fayenatic London 20:15, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anosy

I would like to ask you WHY you asked renaming of the category Anosy to Anosy Region?? (this concerns also: Category:People from Anosy to Category:People from Anosy Region )

I never saw you making articles on that place of the world, nor making edits in the respective articles. I do 80% of Wikipedia contents on Madgascar and there is no second Anosy of importance. There is absolutely no reason for this action.

Are you bored at home?

I am not ready to accept this. Becazuse I do the work there, at it's me, who has to type all the type complicated category names. I would be glad to have some help - but constructive, not destructive.

Please revise these categories - put their original names back - and ples, if you don't know Madagascar and don't want to contribute on Madagascar related articles: keep off of that category.

Otherwise, if you are too bored and looking for other categories to be renamed, what about the states of USA: For example

  • Category:Nevada would be much greater as [:Category:Nevada (State of the United States of Amercia]]
  • etc.

This will occupy you for some time..... Have a nice day and best regards Tonton aka Tonton Bernardo (talk) 13:53, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps the rudest message I've ever received on Wikipedia from someone claiming to be a serious editor. Not worth any more of my time. Tassedethe (talk) 14:14, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Marty Ruza

Hi, I didn't know he was still alive - do you have a reference for this? Thanks so much. Mabalu (talk) 21:00, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The default position is that people should be characterised as alive until either a) they are referenced as dead or b) they would be so old as to make being alive improbable or impossible. Then they would be moved to Category:Possibly living people or Category:Year of death missing. (This is laid out at Category:Living people). I felt that a jewelery designer of the 70s and 80s isn't highly likely to be dead. A date of birth would make that decision easier though. I will see if I can find any further references, though. Thanks. Tassedethe (talk) 21:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks - At the time I was creating entries for the Coty winners, I was searching around but couldn't find anything - I knew three of the six jewelry winners from that year (the two Cadoro designers and Alexis Kirk) had died, Clifton Nicholson is certainly still alive, but Ruza and Bill Smith (talk about a difficult name to research) I couldn't confirm one way or another. Useful to know that when in doubt, presume living status. Mabalu (talk) 00:37, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Year of death missing

Hi. When you're adding this category with Hotcat, could you also add Category:Year of birth missing too, if of course, the biography doesn't have any birth details? Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 19:25, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hridayeshwar Singh Bhati

Ultra respected Dignity: First of all congratulation for being an awesome administrator and being a very good human for contributing to an article related to a disabled kid. Secondly I want to inform you that the article on the subject, " Hridayeshwar Singh Bhati" is about a kid, who can not walk and even can not sit properly. His fingers even tremble and His extent of disability is 65% that too progressive and permanent. He is suffering from fatal disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy and fighting bravely against death. Despite such grim medical conditions he invented circular chess for 6 players at the age of 9 and became youngest patent holder of India. He has already invented circular chess for 12 players and circular chess for 60 players and applied for patent. He is very near to completion of project of, " Economical power wheel chair accessible vehicle of the world. Last but not the least the article on the subject, " Hridayeshwar Singh Bhati" will serve as real inspiration to the world. I Appeal to you Ultra respected dignity, that this article deserves justice and worth reaching to lot of people but unfortunately there was some thing negative discussed about the inspirational kid and that was really painful. Regards182.64.83.228 (talk) 14:22, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments. Good luck with the article. Tassedethe (talk) 20:19, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cats

Just a note to remind you that categories are subject to WP:V. You really shouldn't add a category to an article if the sourced content in the article doesn't support it, like in Esther Gulick. Toddst1 (talk) 01:44, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:BLP people who could be alive should be added to Category:Living people. People over 90 with little documentation should be added to Category:Possibly living people. People born before 1898 should be added to Category:Year of death missing. I've done a google search and it seems she died in 1995 so I will add that in this case. Tassedethe (talk) 02:00, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Am I missing something in BLP that says that? What section? Toddst1 (talk) 05:47, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Check Category:Living people. Tassedethe (talk) 05:58, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was looking in the policy, not the verbiage at the top of the category. The category says, "Possibly living people, missing people and dead people are not included here." which goes back to my original point. Toddst1 (talk) 13:40, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Err, OK. Tassedethe (talk) 13:49, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

style="background-color: #F0FFEC; border: 4px solid #107020; width:100%" cellpadding="5"
Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Elias Elia

The footballer Elias Elia in the articles 1989–90 Cypriot Cup and Nea Salamis Famagusta FC is not the same with Elias Elia in the articles List of Cypriot football transfers winter 2011–12 and List of Cypriot football transfers winter 2012–13. [3] Xaris333 (talk) 16:52, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
