Discussion

We can discuss this anywhere, anyplace, anytime. It's my opinion. I might write letters and defend to protect America and Let's bring back jobs, bring back to manufacturing to be Made in America. I like the ones of Ronald Reagan to run for President in 1980. Let's Make America Great Again. I might petition it. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 22:16, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors

Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.

We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 03:58, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Sarrail, I think you should look over Hurricane Danielle (2022) to see if it is notable, because there is currently a debate on whether it is notable. IMO, I think it is notable, cause you know, landfall in Portugal, state of emergency, hundreds of accidents, a town almost completely destroyed, etc. Thanks! ~ Hurricane Su (talk) 12:39, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

The Portugal Resident has a good description on Portugal when Danielle hit. Crisis 24 also reports the damages and flooding done due to the extratropical storm making landfall there. Polish News also reports damage; and even the Washington Post does some description about the first hurricane of the season. Sorry about my changing from "Support" to "Oppose", but if the article is notable enough and passes WP:GNG, then the article may potentially be kept. Sarrail (talk) 13:00, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
I read this comment, and I have found more sources, and one stating that a man died after a heart attack due to Danielle. So I think the article has enough sources to be notable. You could maybe remove it from candidate for deletion if it is worthy enough to be kept. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 16:56, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
bye words struggling trying to fit to the side Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 00:31, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh i thought it would start at the bottom Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 00:32, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
@Hurricane Chandler your edits are correct and Danielle should be good now, the man did not die Hurricane Su (talk) 19:34, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
Despite this, Hurricane Chandler has voted MERGE in the deletion discussion page. Sarrail (talk) 21:42, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
As they previously stated, much more information has been found. I don’t think a merge is necessary now. You can check. Hurricane Su (talk) 22:19, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
Per HurricaneEdgar's statement, this may be transcluded into a WP:NOPAGE situation. The impacts may be shortened and merged into the article, just like Gonzalo of 2020. Sarrail (talk) 12:35, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
But the article is large, and mentions many things that were not in the article, such as more impact, Danielle’s extratropical transition, and the almost complete destruction of a town. With this information and the size of the article, there is no reason for a merge. Most season articles say nothing on a storm after it transitions into an extratropical or remnant low and barely says anything about Danielle’s impact. People also worked hard to find good sources, and they have been found. The deletion policy states (not exact) “Find more information on Danielle”, and that has been found. Landfall in PORTUGAL! State of emergency in PORTUGAL! Damaged bridges, the almost complete destruction of Mantegias (may have spelled that wrong). Also, Mantegias is in PORTUGAL! Storms very rarely hit Iberia, and this one resulted in a State of Emergency. If this hasn’t convinced you, idk what will but there is enough info in Danielle for the article to stay. Hurricane Su (talk) 21:50, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Also, Tropical Storm Melissa (2019) caused minimal damage, yet it has an article. Danielle is certainly more notable than Melissa and deserves and article. If you don’t believe me, read by previous statement. Hurricane Su (talk) 18:39, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
I'll think about it for a moment. Sarrail (talk) 18:59, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
I shall think about it as well. I have removed my "Merge" statement. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 19:53, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
I have also removed my "Merge" statement. Robert McClenon has some good ideas on why keeping the article is sufficient enough. Sarrail (talk) 00:53, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes I agree. @Hurricane Su, you also stated good reasons on why Danielle should be kept. I shall change my vote to Keep. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 21:14, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
I'll also change my vote as well; per the reasons above. Want a "support" sticker? Sarrail (talk) 21:32, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks. Don't know if you were talking to me or Su but..... Hurricane Chandler (talk) 21:47, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Since you both have voted support, both. Sarrail (talk) 21:48, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Hurricane Chandler (talk) 21:50, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
What do we do now? More voters voted for Keep. IMO Danielle should be kept, as this argument was also made with Hurricane Earl (2022) and settled with keep. Is there anything we can do? Hurricane Chandler (talk) 22:10, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
It would probably be enough for an article, but I'd suggest expanding the article more and add some categories as well. Sarrail (talk) 22:46, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Okay thx Hurricane Chandler (talk) 22:51, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
And BTW, if Martin ever makes landfall and has an article, another AFD would potentially would be up (Just like Danielle) and this whole thing would start up again. Sarrail (talk) 23:24, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
lol, true. I'll find a way Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:30, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
also i dont understand why an AFD is up for Danielle. Clearly it is notable with User:Robert McClenon approved it. One is also potentially going to be up for Colin.... so... we have a heck of a lot more things to deal with. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:34, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
...Unless we improve it. I'll start right now. Sarrail (talk) 23:37, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
haha same Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:38, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
also just noticed literally EVERY claim in Colin is not sourced sooooo.... we're gonna be here a while Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:44, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh yay… another AFD to deal with. Hurricane Su (talk) 00:27, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
If we can improve it significantly before an AFD request for Colin, then maybe we can avoid it after all. Sarrail (talk) 00:29, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Hope so. I’ll try my best to improve it ASAP. Hurricane Su (talk) 00:30, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Also, I was planning on starting a draft for Martin but since Danielle is still unresolved (even though it is definitely notable because it was approved) I will not. Also, Martin will have a 99% chance of an article for deletion so I’ll hold off and work in improving Colin. Hurricane Su (talk) 00:33, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
If Martin causes significant and/or notable damages, then go ahead and make one if Martin is a significant topic. Sarrail (talk) 00:39, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Ye I was also planning on waiting until a possible UK landfall Hurricane Su (talk) 00:41, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
If Martin makes landfall in UK or nearby countries, and causes a huge mess, then sure. However, it's almost similar to Danielle considering Martin to transition to an extratropical storm. We'll see how it goes until then. Sarrail (talk) 00:43, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
K Hurricane Su (talk) 01:16, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
If you planning on starting a draft, then, WP:BOLD. For storms expected to impact land, a draft should be made instead while the storm is not yet notable. The draft should only be moved to article space when information about the storm's impact begins to roll in, which is usually around the time of landfall or closest approach to land. WP:Notability_(weather)#Tropical_cyclones essay HurricaneEdgar 01:42, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Martin is expected to impact somewhere in Europe, but given the large uncertainty cone, I'm opting out of the draft for now, however another user can create it if they wish to do so. Sarrail (talk) 01:56, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Okay thanks @HurricaneEdgar! I will probably do that soon. Hurricane Su (talk) 12:03, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
For now, I don't think a draft is needed because it is (for now) no threat to land. But like HurricaneEdgar stated, you can be WP:BOLD and create the article. Sarrail (talk) 16:22, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
By the way, I have created a draft for Hurricane Martin, feel free to add if there is significant coverage of it. If not, we'll just redirect it. Sarrail (talk) 16:56, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Colin has just been requested to me merged... what do we do? We can't let it get merged but we also can't start another Danielle sized argument. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 21:45, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Damn, we weren't in time. My suggestion is to keep improving it, to avoid another "Danielle" argument. Sarrail (talk) 21:47, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Agreed. Hopefully we are able to. Luckily, no one has voted to merge yet, but Drdpw stated on the talk page that he'd be willing to. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 21:49, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
oh yay, another AFD Hurricane Su (talk) 22:09, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
It looks like the merge proposal was proposed by FleurDeOdile back on November 1, but was removed by MoldovaBallMapping, until it was restored by Drdpw. So it seems like the merge notice was there for quite a while; we'd better get busy if you want the article to be kept. Sarrail (talk) 23:36, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Hurricane Chandler, Hurricane Su, right now after Liz relisted the deletion discussion on Hurricane Danielle, it seemingly looks like there is more support votes for now. Sarrail (talk) 14:19, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes! Thanks for all the help Sarrail. Danielle is still an AFD but it seems that keep is winning. Hurricane Su (talk) 17:02, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
For now... Sarrail (talk) 17:12, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Hopefully it stays that way and the argument can be settled Hurricane Chandler (talk) 01:09, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Agreed that the article should be a standalone article. It not just its notablity in portugal. It was the first hurricane of the 2022 atlantic hurricane season and it was the first storm to form in the atlantic In a 2 months dead activity making it the first time since Idk forgot the year To not have a storm in august Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 13:03, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
No issues with the article. Therefore it may have a stand-alone article. Sarrail (talk) 13:31, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
BTW, this discussion is moving off the talk page... Sarrail (talk) 15:11, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Ok good idea Hurricane Su (talk) 23:02, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Well, looks like there is no discussion on Colin's merge. All clear. Sarrail (talk) 14:47, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
Yay! Hurricane Chandler (talk) 16:21, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
You really wanted both articles to be kept, did you?  :) Sarrail (talk) 22:09, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
Hurricane Chandler, Hurricane Su, Colin is being proposed for deletion for the second time. The link is here: Talk:Tropical Storm Colin (2022). Sarrail (talk) 19:51, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh come on! Hurricane Su (talk) 21:00, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
dang Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 22:47, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
D: Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:16, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
this is especially annoying to me, because I am working on 4 ARTICLES! Now I have to defend another. Whatever. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 23:22, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
If you want me to cite more sources on Colin, I am free to do so, even though there aren’t much out there. Sarrail (talk) 01:08, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
BTW, Danny had a high chance of being kept. Sarrail (talk) 01:09, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Danny article has been there for a year and nobodys talking about deleting danny, so theres no purpose of that infobox saying it to be there Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 18:24, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
if you could that would be great, thanks. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 18:44, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
A quick Google search found a truckload of results. :) Sarrail (talk) 18:46, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Why do you think Danny should stay but Colin shouldn't? Just wondering cause they are similar in size and impact, even though Colin is probably more notable due to the fatality Hurricane Chandler (talk) 19:35, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
I’ll find more sources and see if this triggers my answer from redirecting it to keeping it. And all of this is due to Colin’s TCR. Sarrail (talk) 20:14, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Colin was the last atlantic storm to form before a 2 months of inactivity. so during that inactivity people could look at the few storms that formed before such as colin, probably making it more notable. Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 20:41, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for finding sources :D Hurricane Su (talk) 20:43, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Okay Hurricane Chandler (talk) 20:46, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
theres so many discussions/replies in this topic that the words are struggling to fit to the side Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 20:59, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I tried outputing the discussion to the left, but I simply gave up because it wasted some precious time fixing up Colin. Sarrail (talk) 21:07, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
BTW, how did Hurricane Epsilon (2020) receive an article? Sarrail (talk) 21:10, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Not only that, but Danny? Sarrail (talk) 21:12, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Hurricane Epsilon (2020) a late season major hurricane that did rapid intensification out in the cold waters is rare, or very rare. and that sotmr did it Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 21:14, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
Danny was the first June storm to make landfall in South carolina since Hurricane One in 1867 as User:ProofRobust stated in the danny deletion article. it also impacted the US Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 21:17, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
I've added a couple more sources to Colin. I'll work tomorrow as I am very tired to do so. I've worked all day and night! Sarrail (talk) 21:22, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
And Rainbow Galaxy POC, you are talking about the wrong Danny. The Danny I linked to was in 2015, not 2021. It caused minimal damage and did not strike the US. Sarrail (talk) 21:23, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
as a mobile user, this discussion literally goes offscreen lol. Should we migrate it somewhere or keep doing this Hurricane Su (talk) 13:30, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
Danny (2015) brought minimal damage, but helped many Caribbean islands recover from a drought Hurricane Chandler (talk) 22:25, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

This should work now, this discussion is going too far out to the right. Sarrail (talk) 13:31, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

okay thanks. also again, thanks for finding sources on Colin, but Drdpw keeps removing them for some reason Hurricane Chandler (talk) 16:21, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
Also, I'm going to give you a reason why I voted to "Keep" Colin, like I did for Danielle. I will also use no Wikipedia:OSE
  1. Colin was a very unexpected storm, forming very quickly and to the NHC's surprise.
  2. Colin was the final storm before a long period of inactivity in the Atlantic.
  3. Colin made landfall in the United States during the 4th of July, resulting in many event cancellations.
  4. One fatality was reported due to Colin.
  5. There are many sources for Colin, including many secondary sources as well.
  6. The article is in good condition.
  7. Finally, Colin can be considered notable due to its effects on the US, and effects on 4th of July festivals.
If there are any uses of OSE or any inappropriate things in my discussion. Maybe this will change your mind, but if it doesn't, that's fine. Hurricane Chandler (talk) 22:59, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
You really took the time to do this, right? Well, I’ll reconsider for the second time. This isn’t the first :( Sarrail (talk) 23:43, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
Also, thanks for reconsidering Sarrail. Hurricane Su (talk) 23:48, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
Wow. Thanks Sarrail! Hurricane Chandler (talk) 00:31, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
I've taken the time to post this response. Feel free to add anything else. Sarrail (talk) 00:55, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for considering everything I stated. It's hard to find people who will do that these days :D Hurricane Chandler (talk) 01:03, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
No problem. Happy to acknowledge Colin's article. Sarrail (talk) 01:17, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Maybe but that on the AFD in order to give reasons apart from OSE Hurricane Su (talk) 23:48, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
Agreed with the reasons Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 02:16, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Is there a reason to continue this considering Hurricane Chandler’s socks blocked? Sarrail (talk) 13:00, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
I suggest archiving the section of your talk page as "Hurricane Chandler’s confirmed as a sock." HurricaneEdgar 14:45, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Heh-Okay. Unless the Colin discussion continues, we can always make a new section. It isn’t talking about Danielle anymore. Sarrail (talk) 15:31, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
User:Hurricane Su also got blocked :( Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 00:18, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Well, I mean, Su was a sockpuppet. There’s really nothing to do here, now that the socks are now blocked. Unless Colin’s a big threat, we don’t need to continue this on and on. Sarrail (talk) 00:20, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
IMO, Colin is on the verge of being merged, despite the extended description of the keep votes. Sarrail (talk) 00:21, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Theres more merge/redirect than keep votes. I dont think colin will last more longer Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 00:29, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Uh-huh. At any moment, Colin could result as merge. Sarrail (talk) 00:32, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
wonder why people voted keep for danny but not for colin because colin did less damage then danny but more deaths than danny so its the same Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 17:19, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Danny was the first tropical cyclone to make landfall in the month of June on South Carolina since 1867, so we can’t rule that out. And look at the preparations and impact. How much notability is there? Sarrail (talk) 17:26, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Colin redirected by Star Mississippi. Is there any reason to continue this conversation? Sarrail (talk) 20:05, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
I dont think so, unless something gets colin notable again, then we can bring it back Rainbow Galaxy POC (talk) 22:52, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
It’ll probably get archived by a bot if it hadn’t been edited for a week. Sarrail (talk) 22:59, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
BTW, if you have any other questions, please open up a new section. I'll close this discussion because Colin's AFD is now resulted as redirected, and Danielle is closed as keep. 107 comments and a month of discussion is probably enough. Sarrail (talk) 14:02, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
The discussion above is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since October. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

Blitz: Our October Copy Editing Blitz focused on July and August 2022 request months; and articles tagged for c/e in December 2021 and January 2022. Seventeen of those who signed up claimed at least one copy-edit, and between them copy-edited forty-six articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Drive: In the November Backlog Elimination Drive, thirty editors signed up, twenty-two of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Both target months—December 2021 and January 2022—were cleared, and February was added to the target months. Sixteen requests were copy-edited and 239 articles were removed from the backlog. Barnstars awarded are here.

Blitz: Our seven-day-long December 2022 Copy Editing Blitz begins on 17 December at 00:01 (UTC)*. It will focus on articles tagged for copy-edit in February 2022, and pending requests from September and October. Barnstars awarded will be available here.

Progress report: As of 22:40, 8 December 2022, GOCE copyeditors have processed 357 requests since 1 January, there were seventy-four requests outstanding and the backlog stands at 1,791 articles. We always need skilled copy-editors; please help out if you can.

Election news: Nomination of candidates for the GOCE's Election of Coordinators for the first half of 2023 is open and continues until 23:59 on 15 December.
