Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, SydneeH, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

A tag has been placed on File:Fox-fordyce1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:07, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The licensing page for this file found here states that Dermnet watermarked images like the one you uploaded are released under a non-commercial (NC) no-derivatives (ND) Creative Commons 3.0 license. Such a license is too restrictive for Wikipedia's purposes and is definitely more restrictive than the {{CC-by-2.0}} you're using for the file. How did you make the jump from a "CC-by-NC-ND 3.0" license to a "CC-by-2.0" license? Did you just guess that it would be OK or did you see the file specifically licensed as such somewhere on the Dermnet website? If you just guessed, then that's OK, but you might want review whatever materials provided to your course regarding image licensing by Wiki Ed and run any further file uploads past either Ian (Wiki Ed) or Helaine (Wiki Ed) just to play it safe. If you found something on the Dermnet website that specifically states this image is released as "CC-by-2.0", then please add that link to the description of the file's page so that the license can be verified. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:21, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted both this file and File:Fox-fordyce2.jpg because Dermnet's license terms are incompatible with acceptable licenses on Wikimedia projects. Not all Creative Commons licenses are created equal – anything with NC or ND is too restrictive to be considered a free license and therefore may constitute copyright infringement, which can potentially have legal consequences. I second the suggestion that you clarify this matter with your instructors. You may also find the Wikipedia article about Creative Commons licenses helpful, and feel free to reach out here as well if you have any further questions.
