DYK for Romy Gundermann

Gatoclass (talk) 23:47, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for all the female singers! - She is also featured on Portal:Germany, - if you have other DYK related to Germany, feel free to add it there yourself! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:43, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I only do German articles for you ;) But I am happy that you are enjoying them. SusunW (talk) 13:05, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
This one was improved by someone else today, so it was ot only for me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:23, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, can you expand this from Spanish wiki? She looks, eh, interesting ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:16, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: eh, indeed. I have been pretty sick, but will try to do it today. SusunW (talk) 13:06, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: Okay, she's done. SusunW (talk) 18:29, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Sorry to hear about sick, - best wishes. How do you like my latest colourful baby, changing from list at the bottom to something sortable? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:20, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt:, I like that a lot! I always like color, but sortable is very helpful. Thanks! I'm feeling better today. Saturday I never got out of bed. Yesterday only managed to be up about 6 hours. So far today it's been 8 and I am still functional, so hopefully I'm back on the mend. Whatever it was hit fast. One minute I was fine and the next, had a raging fever. It's the tropics, sometimes it just happens like that. :) SusunW (talk) 19:34, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Can you help me clear the red links in Claudia Cardinale, it's currently at GAN. Can you find anything on the female ones, Patricia Black (actress), Chloé Cunha and Nadia Szold?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:25, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I was just looking at them last night. Szold is pretty interesting. Read an interview she did last night. Cunha will probably only be a stub, not very established yet. Black, didn't look at but will. May not be today. I promised Rosie and Victuallers I would help translate their press release into Spanish, did that and had a friend help me edit it. I promised her that I would help her translate a document into English today, so may not be on much today, but will look at them tomorrow at the latest. SusunW (talk) 12:58, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay Szold is done. I fear the other two are going to be even shorter, but will see what I can do. SusunW (talk) 02:54, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I'm taking Cunha out of brackets. I just don't think she has done enough to be notable. I find 2 articles on her total. One says she competes in poetry slams in Cambridge, Massachusetts after returning from New York and the other is that she had a bit part as a "police officer" in Joy de V. I also made some updates to Joy de V. Hope that helps. Sorry it was so late but the translation project I was working on took all day. SusunW (talk) 05:17, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Good morning and again, muchas gracias! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:07, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Morning Rosiestep. Hope you are enjoying our capital. I'm gonna get there before the year is out, I keep repeating it to make it so. Hope the conference is going well. SusunW (talk) 13:11, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Patricia Black (actress), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dead Aim. Helping out a newbie!

The Helping Hand Barnstar
Thanks so much for encouraging me through my very first DYK nomination! Wikipedia would be a better, more welcoming and more fun place if every editor was like you. I love what you pointed out about women-editors and illuminating the history of women, and I hope to work with you again in the future! Cheers, EmilyvstheGorn (talk) 22:21, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

@EmilyvstheGorn: Wow! Thank you! Come here any time and if I cannot help you there are watchers of my page or people I can go to for help with anything Wiki. You shouldn't be forced to "try to figure it out". We should be encouraging and helping each other. Ask anything and I will give it my best effort to help. SusunW (talk) 22:46, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Just caught up on this. Frankly people should use your conduct on Template:Did you know nominations/Emily C. Gorman as an example of how to behave around here. Well done. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:51, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Keep up the good work!

Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:25, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

@Kudpung: Thank you. You made me smile. He looks like my baby kitten who has been sick for the last several days. He has a great vet, who comes to my house to check on him and he is better today. Thanks for the encouragement. SusunW (talk) 12:50, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Hope your kitty is just fine very soon! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:24, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks @Rosiestep:. Me too. He's a fighter. Little rescue guy that showed up starving on our doorstep. I'm hoping I didn't give him this ailment, but the doc thinks not. He's up and about today and most important eating and drinking again, which is progress. SusunW (talk) 13:32, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
My cat, Kiddish, is a rescue cat, too. I adopted her from a vet's office who had cared for her until she was ready for adoption. She had been emaciated and had lost a litter when she had been found by a kind person who took her to the vet. Thankfully, she is thriving in this home. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:00, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: Yay! Rusty, this baby, is our fourth rescue since we got to Mexico. We lost one due to lymphatic disease, but all the others are great. Rusty is kittenish this morning. Couldn't be happier. :) SusunW (talk) 14:06, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
If you're going to talk about cats, at least yank @Fylbecatulous: into the conversation! I'm "between cats" at the moment as my current partner is not quite so soppy over them as I am, but Suede still takes pride of place at the top of my talk page. Nearly made it to 20. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:17, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: we are in such good stead. I have a thing for cats and the people who love them. We lost our two oldest at 20 years after we arrived here. They lived in 3 countries and were such a huge part of our family. Now we have a three year old, a one year old and a probably six month baby. SusunW (talk) 14:24, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
'eow, 'eow. ツ thanks for the invite, Ritchie333. I really have to find a place for my cat's image as an icon on my talk page: here she is on Commons, tho: [1]. She is a rescued feral who does not live up to her name, 'Fearless'. She weighed one pound at four months when I dragged her from beneath my daughter's storage shed and took her to the vet. She was right on the edge of not being able to be socialised then. She and I love each other and are comfy together, but she will lash anyone else in an instant! Even my vet is afraid of her. Wishing you all the best with yours, SusanW. It is very good you have a vet to make house calls. Mine has a chronic eating issue, so it costs about $50 a month to feed a 7 pound cat, and she will only use lavendar scented litter. Hugs and many many paw pats all around... Fylbecatulous talk 15:21, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
and Ritchie333, I hope you may soon have another feline in your life. Soppy for cats is a most excellent attribute. ツ Fylbecatulous talk 15:26, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
@Fylbecatulous: she is beautiful. I have the best vet ever. He makes house calls, he calls daily, and he is not expensive. Lover of animals and sympathetic to our cats' servants (me and my hubby) as well. SusunW (talk) 15:46, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Rydén

Thanks for another singer! I don't quite get the part about Christina's Journey - and don't read Swedish. I find this which would tell me that it is a collection of Baroque pieces by various composers, combined to form scenes like "The Duel". Was it staged? If yes, when and where? - I wrote my first woman biography under the women in red format, - while listening to the last act of Tristan und Isolde, after having heard an interview with the soprano on radio during intermission. In the end, she was faster than the conductor ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:58, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: I definitely got the idea it was staged and recorded in CDs later. The Swedish article (dated 2005) says " Music drama has been in London, Uppsala and Stockholm. This fall, it shall be presented in Rome (as a reminder of Christina's foray there), and several other major cities are waiting." I thought it was sort of like what we would call a "musical" in English, you know, "West Side Story", "Oklahoma" or the like. LOL you have me laughing, faster than the conductor! SusunW (talk) 20:08, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Can you add Baroque though, - otherwise it reads like contemporary. Will do DYK. - She reached the climax sooner than the orchestra did, - for more laughing ;) - Critics will not like that, so her DYK will rather be about Elektra, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:13, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: done and I linked it to baroque music. Also listed the venues. SusunW (talk) 20:18, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Hey SusunW, I just wanted to say thank you for all the awesome work you're doing with WP Women in Red and writing about women! You are awesome! <3

Keilana|Parlez ici 23:32, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

@Keilana: Gracias mi amiga. I figure that if women are 1/2 the world, if we aren't half the history, we aren't doing our jobs. It angers and frustrates me that so many women are footnotes to history. (You will see my comments if I cannot find enough to even write more than a stub.) If we ever want to make a different world, we have to show those who come after us that women matter. My goal is to write one woman a day. Most days I get more than that, but there will be days I cannot do one so it will take up the slack :) SusunW (talk) 23:59, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Hell yeah! You should try the #100wikidays challenge - where people write an article a day, and write about women!!! :) Keilana|Parlez ici 02:17, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
@Keilana: Didn't know there was such a thing, but I'm thinking I maybe have done that??? (As I said, wiki technology is totally daunting to me. I cannot find anything on here, much less figure out things like challenges.) How would I verify it? SusunW (talk) 02:26, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
There are two approaches, yours, which is to make near-GA-quality articles from the get-go (and they will survive troll attacks at places such as WP:AFD) or create shorter stubs with fewer sources, which CAN be bait for the "deletionist" crowd. Montanabw(talk) 09:12, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Hey @Montanabw: good to read you. It makes me smile. Yes, I am of the opinion that the delete-them-if-they-aren't-sports-stars-or-war-heros (or porn stars) crowd need no fuel. Besides which I am constitutionally unable to make stubs. I've tried. It makes me feel as if I have failed those women. Even when I am forced to do it because I cannot find more info, I feel like we failed. Graciela Quan last week did not make me feel glad that she was finally part of the history she deserved. It made me outraged that no one cared before and that I cannot even get enough sourcing to do a proper biography. Frankly GA scares the beejeebers outta me. DYK has become brutal so I cannot even begin to imagine how one deals with GA review. I don't mind scrutiny at all, have no ownership issues, love it when someone improves an article, but I have no patience for pettiness, nor incivility, nor those who would blindly apply rules. Like when you have 10 one line mentions of a person with significant accomplishments like Graciela Quan) and someone is arguing notability because you cannot find 1 single article solely about them. I get that there is a balance between quality vs. quantity and for women we need to increase both, but surely we can address both if we all work together? SusunW (talk) 14:14, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Hopefully WP:Women in red will soon be merged into Wp:Women. The stub focus for women will be shared with Intertranswiki, but you'll have to often update the entries in bold on both pages haha!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:15, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: and that is how technology should be used. I don't want it selecting articles for us, but if we have already identified it as worthy, then if I make a change to one link it should go across the board to other projects. Just my opinion. Hope you are enjoying your summer break. I'll be glad when your summer is done, though for me, summer is the easiest time to write. Too hot to be outside and no Spanish classes. Come September, I won't be able to produce as much. SusunW (talk) 15:24, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, when it's warm I find it difficult to create lots of stubs and edit for long. You're forgetting though that in the UK we don't have air conditioning. I will finish off half the remaining stubs in the next few days though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:31, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: LOL - I'm in Mexico. What is air conditioning? I do have a fan, but when it is 100+ degrees (38C according to my phone) it just pushes hot air around, but still hiding inside is all one can do. SusunW (talk) 18:42, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Frankly, I think the GA and DYK are pretty similar. If an article is accepted for DYK, it's very close to GA if it's a reasonably comprehensive bio, which many of your articles are. Put up something and nominate it, then ping me for the review (so long as I've not edited that article) I'll be fair and walk you through it. Montanabw(talk) 23:16, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
@Montanabw: I may make myself crazy, but I have done it. María Teresa Ferrari is nominated. SusunW (talk) 04:13, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

I got FA's on rongorongo and a spin-off, and the critics I had to placate were insane. I decided never to do it again. But people tell me it's usually a lot easier (mine was unusually bad), and GA's are easier still. So maybe you should try. I do like the fact (in my case) that an article that was once horrid is now quite good, and the FA label makes it easy to revert baneful edits, because there's a strong proven consensus for the way it was. Though the GA process for bios might be more stringent because bios tend to be subjective, so there's that. Maybe start with the one that has the best ref support, or the least political baggage?

Oh, for stubs: When you try to get an article up to par, you'll find you mention things or places or people that don't have WP articles. IMO that's a good way to start stubs: you want to write something, so your GA article isn't full of red links (or no links), but you don't mind them being stubs, because they aren't really what you're working on or what you're interested in. But if one GA article spawns a dozen stubs, you've really added something to WP. — kwami (talk) 01:24, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

@Kwamikagami: I put it up, we'll see how it goes. I don't mind criticism in the slightest, and am really happy if we can improve articles, but I don't do edit wars or pettiness at all. Most of my women are political, but they are also mostly dead and minorities in one way or another. SusunW (talk) 03:48, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Okay I just read that again and it made me laugh. They are quite dead, not mostly dead. LOL Most of them are dead is what I meant to say. ;) SusunW (talk) 03:49, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
I didn't have a problem with edit-warring. There was a bit, but I could just say "undergoing FA evaluation" and revert. The reviewers sometimes edited the article, but they mostly knew what they were doing, or they wouldn't be spending their time on FA reviews. Mostly they just made comments, which I would try to incorporate, or else explain why they were not improvements. So yeah, put up one you're happy with, and see how it goes. If it doesn't stress you out, you might be up to doing more, and getting an article to GA is a good way of keeping it stable: you have an excuse for ownership, because you're defending a consensus version, not just your own POV. — kwami (talk) 05:40, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Susanne Rydén has been nominated for Did You Know

Mariam Ghani

Hi! I was super impressed with your article. I'd been researching her a bit, too because she seemed interesting. I wanted you to know I nominated it for a "Did You Know?" Awesome work! :D Megalibrarygirl (talk) 04:24, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! I just did that sprint of 10 artists for Women in Red. She and the Swedish one Annika Ekdahl I think were my favorites. The list I pulled those 10 from has hundreds more, so I'll comb through it again for August. I was thrilled when we got back from dinner to see that you had made some additions and found some great sources. That is always my biggest worry, lack of sourcing for women. Mariam Ghani has been nominated for Did You Know

Your GA nomination of María Teresa Ferrari

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article María Teresa Ferrari you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Montanabw -- Montanabw (talk) 19:41, 29 July 2015 (UTC) @Montanabw: Am I supposed to get some sort of notice on this? I have no clue how it is supposed to work. SusunW (talk) 05:52, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Eep! Yes, that was the notice, automated. I posted that I would be reviewing at Talk:María Teresa Ferrari/GA1 (though they also transclude the GA review on the article's talk page, it doesn't always show up in the watchlist when it is edited. My own trick is when I GA nominate an article, I open and watchlist - but don't edit (because then it makes it seem the article is being reviewed) - these review pages for articles I nominate. I have just been slow to get going on that GAN, I'll ping you when I have some comments (don't worry about the 7-day limit, that's my responsibility, if I don't get to it, the GA folks bug me to get going... ) Montanabw(talk) 23:19, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Michoacan update

FYI: [2]kwami (talk) 19:58, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Cool! @Kwamikagami: I'll update the page. Did you see that we may have our first wedding in Puebla tomorrow? SusunW (talk) 20:01, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
No. Official? — kwami (talk) 20:04, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
@Kwamikagami: They won an injunction last November. State appealed. State lost. I posted it but we'll have to see if it actually happens. Long way from 5, but it's a start. SusunW (talk) 20:15, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I updated the map for Puebla. Also changed the light blue, which s.o. complained made it look like civil-union light, to pink, for illegal-light. — kwami (talk) 20:34, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I updated @Kwamikagami: the Michoacan page. Can't believe we are finally down to just Tlaxcala and Zacatecas in the 0 category. When I started with the updates there were so many.
And Hidalgo. A year from now I expect it will be mostly complete. — kwami (talk) 05:28, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, can you/ Rosiestep start an article on Margaret J. Anderson. The Beverly Hills Hotel founder who played a major role in the development of Los Angeles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:57, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld:I can look at it on Sunday. Today am participating remotely in an editathon in DF. SusunW (talk) 14:04, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

[3] [4] [5] [6]

@Dr. Blofeld: I'm still working on it, but it's great! She's a rogue, she's a pirate and a damn good businesswoman! And...I found a fabulous newspaper site. California newspapers 1846-present If you right click on them you can clip, save a copy in Wayback and post the clip. SusunW (talk) 16:48, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Cool! Extra cool too as it's my mother's name!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:49, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

BTW, what happened to the big nearly 20 hook municipality DYK nom. Did we get all of the QPQs done afterwards?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:20, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I think we only got 11 or so done and you were hoping to hear that they would reduce the number we needed. SusunW (talk) 12:35, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld:Actually we are at 17. So, I made a proposal to move it along. See: Template:Did you know nominations/Municipalities of Yucatan
@Dr. Blofeld: I'd like to steal 3 QPQs from the municipalities if you concur. One for Margaret J. Anderson, one for Ángela Acuña Braun‎ and maybe one for Mariam Ghani if they decide she needs one. SusunW (talk) 15:10, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
Just wondering why you didn't include me on Margaret's DYK? It's ok if you feel I didn't do very much. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:07, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Not remotely, all contributions are valuable. Truth is I didn't know how it only gives two lines. I figured I would have to ask someone how to add and could modify it. SusunW (talk) 14:16, 4 August 2015 (UTC) And maybe I'll just always do it the way I just did it, because it is way easier to just type in with copying another persons data and changing it than to try to figure out what programming stuff I am supposed to use. ;) @Rosiestep:, you have to know that I wouldn't still be doing DYK without your encouragement. I would never, ever intentionally leave credit to you out of anything. SusunW (talk) 14:24, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: and maybe that won't work, because someone had to tweak it. But dammit, the instructions say no punctuation and then it only gives lines for two people. So how DO you properly nominate more than two? SusunW (talk) 18:10, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi. That's a good question. So, in the nomination template, there's a line that looks like this: | author2 = . Under it, type in this: |author3= and you can add a third name. You can add more editors by adding more lines, such as |author4=. P.S. I didn't mean to stir waters between us; we are good; promise! :) --Rosiestep (talk) 02:59, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: Thanks for the babies, they make me smile. Mine has been all playful today. So glad he is well and back to being a kitty. If you have spare time, can you look at Sue Bailey Thurman? I am so frustrated cannot get her to 5X expansion and Dr. B told me today that it needs to be at about 10K to even think about GA. How can a woman who was as prominent in her day as Michelle Obama not have more information available? Maybe there is info in the US, just not here? *sigh* SusunW (talk) 03:11, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Glad your kitty is better. It's a nice article, and it's on an important person, but unfortunately it's not near GA quality yet. I started some c/e but haven't had a chance to see about expanding it. Summarizing more of the article into the lede would add to the character count, but that's only a meaningful suggestion here if you're just shy by a little in terms of size. I'll try and circle back with this article in the next day or two... just way too tired to do so tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:44, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

@Rosiestep: That's cool. Glad you found her middle name. I could only score the E. And I never did catch that I failed to correct the birth date in the lede. I got it changed in the categories and the article and in the info box (which I was thrilled to find that picture!) I have decided just to slap fair use pictures on if I cannot be 100% sure about copyright. Takes too much time to research and I cannot get anyone to help. Sleep well. I'm out too. SusunW (talk) 03:49, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: your perseverance paid off!!! And now you should totally nominate it for a DYK. I disagree with the reviewer about removing the reference to the performance. We do not have to have those articles. I also disagree with her removing the part about other women are now questioning their own children's reported deaths, BUT there is now an article on a noteworthy woman and that stuff can be added back ;) I have added her as a new article to WikiProject Women in Red. Well done Susun - I have cobbled together a DYK and given you credit where it is duly deserved. @Gerda Arendt:, if this woman hasn't been precious, she should be! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:23, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: Gracias mi amigo. I am all warm and fuzzy and truly appreciate your tenacity. Wouldn't have known about her at all were it not for your and Rhonda's persistence! Gerda, honored me when I was a wee baby on Wiki. She has been a major help and support since I started. ;) SusunW (talk) 19:26, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
@Ritchie333:and if you need a QPQ, I have a DYK that could use a review on Ángela Acuña Braun SusunW (talk) 19:30, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Did one of Gerda's new creations for a QPQ, but if nobody else has done it by the time I file another DYK, I'll give it a look. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 19:37, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
