Elizer moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Elizer, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Your response on my talk page is copied here: Paisarepa, hi, it's Superbrickbro. Please try to understand that Vidya Shankar is a real person and not some made up thing. Please do not delete Vidya Shankar from the page because every time you or anybody else deletes Vidya Shankar, you are vandalizing the page. Vidya Shankar can be there and isn't being a virus to the page. Stop deleting Vidya Shankar or I will report you and everyone else as vandalizers. This is all I want to write: *Vidya Shankar, a South Indian Veena player, and musicologist who was a member of the Madras Music Academy in Chennai, India. Please believe me: Vidya Shankar is a real person and was a veena player. she was a very well known member of the Music Academy in Chennai, India. If you want to delete this because there is no article for Vidya Shankar, please also delete Vidya, a bimonthly journal published by the Triple Nine Society as said above as there is no article to it as well. Here is the Hindu article link proving that she died in 2010: https://www.thehindu.com/arts/Vainika-Vidya-Shankar-no-more/article16204888.ece. please don't delete Vidya Shankar as she was still a real singer. Also, this isn't vandalism as I'm just telling other editors something. if you don't believe that Vidya Shankar is real, go look up the Hindu article proving that she died in 2010, please.
As you are fully aware, having been told three times now by three different people (myself, User talk:Breawycker, and Gorthian on his edit summary), your edits to the Vidya Disambiguation Page are disruptive, and repeatedly reverting the edits without making an attempt to resolve the underlying issues is not appropriate. What is especially inappropriate is your response to Breawycker's notification on your talk page; you simply responded with the blatant personal attack 'You are stupid!'
As you have already been asked, please refer to WP:DAB and MOS:DAB before simply replacing an edit that has been reverted multiple times already. And please review the etiquette guidelines WP:WQ before communicating with other editors in the manner that you have been. Your communication and behavior will get you blocked from editing if you don't change it. Thanks. Paisarepa (talk) 00:30, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Vidya Shankar

[edit]

Disambiguation pages are supposed to guide readers to an article they’re looking for, so if there is no article, it’s useless to them. A red link is only useful if there’s a blue link to guide the reader to an article with that same red link, but where presumably, there is at least a little information. I found Vidya Shankar in Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, so I was able to add her to the disambiguation page at Vidya. It’s clear she’s notable and you’re interested in her; I encourage you to write an article so that she’s no longer a red link.

There’s a LOT to learn about editing at Wikipedia, and I see you’re very new, so give yourself time to absorb some of the skills needed. Don’t just keep adding something to a page over and over; that gets frustrating for everyone involved, and could lead to your being blocked from editing. I look forward to seeing you around. Cheers! — Gorthian (talk) 01:06, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

After Gorthian told me what to about editing and how to edit properly, I understand that the block is no longer necessary because I understand what you are blocked for, and I will not do it again, and I will make productive contributions instead by not constantly reverting edits and calling other editors mean names. I'm very very sorry for my vandalism and I will not do it again. After Gorthian explained in a nice and not vigorous way what I was doing was wrong, I realized that I will stop my vandalizing editing. Please let me continue to edit and left the 72-hour ban. If I vandalize again please tell me in a nice way what I'm doing wrong and if I continue to vandalize, you can ban me for longer. Thank you for understanding, ----Superbrickbro

For some reason, the timer on my block is done but the block hasn't expired yet, so can someone explain this?

A couple of tips

[edit]

There are a couple of very basic things you need to do when you’re editing Wikipedia. One is to sign every comment you leave that isn’t on an article. You do this by typing four tildes at the end of your comment: ~~~~ The software will turn that into your username (and the time) when you publish the comment.

The second thing you should do is add an WP:EDITSUMMARY to every edit you make, so people can look at the history of a page and have some idea of what you did.

One more tip: do NOT revert someone’s edit over and over. That is called edit warring, and was what got you blocked already once. The best policy is what’s called BRD, where after you Boldly make an edit, and you get Reverted, you Discuss the situation on the talk page of the article to figure out a solution together.

As I said earlier, there is a LOT to learn about editing Wikipedia, including dizzying rules and an intricate structure of community. GO SLOWLY and thoughtfully, click on links, and you’ll learn. Happy editing! — Gorthian (talk) 23:36, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Superbrickbro, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to User:Superbrickbro / Shiv Bhakta (1955 film) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Nthep (talk) 19:27, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Vidya Shankar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.thehindu.com/arts/Vainika-Vidya-Shankar-no-more/article16204888.ece. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. creffett (talk) 21:49, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, today my father (account: NewtonRam) created a Wikipedia account. He was trying to edited an article on his teacher, who was a renowned musician. This is the year of her birth centenary. I was showing him how to cite references properly but I copied a whole page of the hindu article I was referencing and hit publish. The reason why I copied the whole article was to just get the most important points (family and date of death), and then was going to delete everything else, as to not make it sound like someone else's words. (I had learned from previous warnings that a total copy from another source was very bad and could result in a copyright violation). Also there was no mis-intent or sock puppetry used between the two accounts, but we could not explain this immediately to the user Bbb23 as my account and our IP got blocked. Can you please excuse this error and unblock my account, my dad's account (NewtonRam), and our Ip address? We were not trying to use any form sock puppetry as one account is mine (Superbrickbro) and the other is my dad's (NewtonRam) because my dad just wanting to create an account and edit his own articles (I was trying to help him get started and showing him what to do and what not to do). Request reason:

So do you actually think that I was using abusing another account to do bad things? Ever since I joined Wikipedia, my goal was just to edit old Indian films and not do anything else. Also I didn't what meat puppetry was before this happened. When my dad started to get interested in what I was doing, I helped him create an New account (during this time I had not been banned yet for sock puppetry, but also didn’t realize that having to accounts on the same IP address was bad). When I copied a whole text from another source just to take the most essential information (death date, and family relationships) and then deleting everything thing as to not have a copyright violation. But as I went to highlight the paragraph to be removed, the cursor on my computer just started moving in an uncontrolled way (that the mouse could not move away, but the mouse’s buttons still worked. As it went to the publish button, I tried to move it way, but instead I accidentally pressed the the right mouse button and hit publish. As soon as I did this, I had a message on my talk page for a speedy deletion of the article (Draft:Vidya Shankar) me and my dad were adding to, because of copyright infringement. And then are IP adress was blocked until December 12 and then my father’s account (NewtonRam) was banned because according to a checkuser, it was a sockpuppet of Superbrickbro. And then I was banned indefinitely from abusing multiple accounts all because of one single mistake. So please lift this block because I think if I had known how to make legitimate accounts on the same IP first none of this would happen. Again I didn’t mean to abuse multiple accounts I was just trying to help my dad create an account so he can edit his articles and I can edit my articles. In real life I'm not a dishonest person, I just didn't understand how to use wikipedia entirely before I got banned indefinitely. Thank you, Sincerely,Superbrickbro (talk) 04:08, 22 October 2019 (UTC)Superbrickbro[reply]

You have an open unblock request; "help me" tags are unnecessary. You cannot create a new account until you are unblocked. Creating additional accounts while blocked is block evasion. Blocks are on the person themselves, not merely their account. 331dot (talk) 10:12, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My friend has wiki account as well, can he log in to wiki on my computer or will he get blocked immediately?Superbrickbro (talk) 14:49, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Superbrickbro[reply]

Let me outline what you've already been told:
  1. help me templates are not for unblocks
  2. You may not create an account or edit under any name or IP address until you as an individual are unblocked on this account.
  3. It is ill advised for your friend to edit from your device. Praxidicae (talk) 15:10, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
