Help once more, please

The Shetland Sheepdog page I'm working on has more than 10 pictures, so I was wondering if there's a limit as to how many a good article should have. Narmowen (talk) 23:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

sorry

Hi. I don't know how to send a message to you, and I hope you get this. I wasn't trying to force anything through, I just couldn't figure out why the paragraph kept being deleted, so I kept putting it back until I realized you left me a message...I am going to try to get some more people to work on it since I want it better than WSU Pullmans site. All we use to have was a bunch of overly dramatic issues about the student government. Anyway, thanks for your help! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephanie24 (talkcontribs) 00:25, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

OK, I'll set this up here - feel free to nominate and foraward to any other editor interested in furry critters. We'll see how it flies and I'll drop a note in the signpost.

Nominating key articles is ok, even if you can't work on them. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 01:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Confused re Lamb and Mutton

Just added this to the talk ..

VanTucky said: "But neither the beef nor pork articles use a live animal as the lead image, for good reason." Care to share with us that 'good reason'? Seems entirely relevant. quota (talk) 17:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Would you like me just to delete the RfA? Declined RfAs are normally deleted, and if RFA/VanTucky 2 is kept and you move on to RFA/VanTucky 3 when you next go up for adminship, it looks like you've had two unsuccessful RfAs when in reality you've only had one. Hi VanTucky, have you had a chance to check the J Michael Bailey article again? Thanks, Avruch T 19:50, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, you've made some good changes. However, I also got an outside party email that presented some sources that we may want to include. I'm reading them today and checking their validity, so by this evening I'll have made a decision whether or not they should be added. Nothing major, but I want to be sure before I pass the article. It's looking really good right now though, I'll probably pass it soon. Thanks for your patience, VanTucky 19:53, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I got the same e-mail. There are some COI issues there, I think, so I didn't want to make any changes based on it until I've had a chance to review it in depth. Avruch T 20:11, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

GA review help

Hey VanTucky, I am doing a few GA reviews and need a second opinion on Volcanic ash. I really don't feel in my heart that it is GA status and the changes the editors made were, at most, superficial, but can't explain why I want to flunk it for now. It's a nice little article as far as it goes and appears, on the surface, to meet the criteria, but considering what I went through on the four or five GA articles I worked on, this one isn't even close. I know you do GA reviews more than I do, so can you give it a look see and offer an opinion? Thanks. Montanabw(talk) 23:10, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks muchly, that was just the insight I needed. Think I can pass the other article I put on hold, Germany Schultz? Montanabw(talk) 03:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey VanTucky,

I just wanted to add my congratulations on the FA, too! I've been admiring you and noticing your name ever since I saw your wonderful work on domestic sheep for the Core Contest; I'm really happy that it came to fruition for you. It's a wonderful article; the only things I missed were a description of county fairs (too parochial, maybe?), and all the songs that shameless shearers sometimes sing. 3D <- (Willow screeching, blissfully unaware) As a knitter and lapsed spinner, I'm fondest of Merinos; I love digging my arms up to the elbows in their fleeces and the rich smell of lanolin on their wool. :) Do you work with sheep, too? Are alpacas, llamas and vicuñas next for you? :) Well done and hoping to see you around the wide world of Wikipedia, Willow (talk) 02:56, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Citing sheep

Congrats on sheep getting its FA, it's a great article and it's good to see an FA article on a core topic, rather than the pop culture stuff most of us spend our time mucking about with.

Regarding citation, allow me to explain why I think you're wrong: putting citation [2] after each sentence tells you that each sentence was sourced from 2. Putting [2] once at the end of the paragraph surely means that all the information in that paragraph was sourced from 2. To my mind, there's no greater information content in the first version than the second: if you doubt anything in the paragraph, go look at 2! I only mention this as a (small p) philosophical point, I've no intention of altering the article in line with my own views. This is to a certain extent a matter of taste, but there is definitely no MoS or other requirement to do it for FA or GA, although there is often pressure to do so.

Once again, great work on the article. Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 17:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your message.

There is a link in the hidden comment to the MOS. Please read it. There is an entire paragraph that deals with this very issue. The problem with most biographies is that they have infoboxes that, according to guidelines, have to be on the right, even if the image faces right (please see the Murray Rothbard article for an example). ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 20:20, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. It looks to me as though both figures are facing to the right. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 20:28, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Frankly, I agree with you. Were I not feeling keyed-up and punchy right now, I would probably let it go. Obviously, it is not important enough for us to have wasted this much time on it. As you say, the article itself is in need of so much work, the images should be way down the list of concerns. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 20:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:20, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

GA segment in Wine Newsletter

Hey VanTucky! I plan on putting out another edition of the Wine Newsletter in the next couple days (probably Wednesday) and I was wondering if you had anything that you would like to include about your evaluation of potential GA wine articles? If there is, feel free to post them in the Tip Room and I'll be sure to include them. Also, I don't know if you've had an opportunity to take a look at the Project talk page but there is quite a bit of discussion about the project's B-class articles and potential GAs. Your opinion there would certainly be valued. Thanks for your time. AgneCheese/Wine 04:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

It's taken me more than an hour to figure out how to navigate to this page and how to add a response! (Hope I got it right.) I wondered, using Wikipedia so often, how contributions were monitored; I'm now finding out. I'll probably be a very intermittent contributor/editor, but sometimes I just MUST fix typos, correct grammar, etc. I'm one of those. <grin> I hope all my impositions will be positive ones. To that end, I'll try to read all help pages real soon. Australorp (talk) 04:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC) Oops, I forgot I had advanced a page, so this wound up out of temporal order. Forgive me. Citing sources

Don't get me wrong I appreciate your work but I was wondering if you wouldn't mind citing sources when you make additions? It's just that later on when I concentrate on bringing that particular article up to GA, it will need every sentence referenced. Anything unsourced will be removed. So if you can add the sources as you add the info that would be great. Cheers, Sting au Buzz Me... 00:48, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

The additions to theDomestic Pigeon article but pretty much none of it is referenced yet anyhow. It's on my "to do" list. Now that the Rock Pigeon article has succeeded in GA I'll work on another. Might wait awhile before pushing for FA? Sting au Buzz Me... 00:55, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
"laughable" Yeah probably? If you have that kind of sense of humor I guess? I do plan (as I said above) to go back through the article again and reference everything. Anything unable to be cited will go. Cheers :-)Sting au Buzz Me... 01:07, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes I've started to figure that out now. Still only new here (last August), but having fun learning how to do things properly. Sting au Buzz Me... 01:15, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I have Andrews book here in front of me now. I have also been in contact with him via email as there was some issue with his website being on the banned list (ok now) and I received an email from him (I'd only just finished reading his book) about how to get un-banned as he noticed I'd been working on the Feral Pigeon article. There are some great refs to use from his book as it is very well researched. Reference to the Palmetto Pigeon Plant in Sumter S.C. could be made on the squab article? Andrew mentions the plant in his book as he was given a guided tour of the place during his book research. The plant was also run and owned by Wendell Levi at one stage. Still so much work to be done with various pigeon articles. We have hardly scratched the surface it would seem? Sting au Buzz Me... 01:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Might be worth a look at their website though? [1] As they are one of the largest in the world and been going since 1923. Might be something you can use there? Sting au Buzz Me... 02:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

A weird request for your input :p

Not wine or GA related! There is an odd conversation going over at the Village Pump about the encyclopedic worth of having a picture of someone's corpse in their biography. The contention has been put that there should be some encyclopedic worth or notable illustration to merit inclusion and that Wikipedia is not a photo gallery and just because we have a free image doesn't mean we need to use it. A counter example was brought up that we have tons of photo galleries in our dog and cat articles. I remember that a while back you were active in working on the pet animal articles in regards to the abundance of photos. To the best of my knowledge, the current trend is to reduce the number of photo galleries in these articles but I want to make sure that I'm accurately representing the situation. I figure you would be a good source to ask and I value your judgement. So from corpses to dogs to cats and back to corpses, a weird context that would only occur on Wikipedia :) AgneCheese/Wine 15:19, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Would you be so kind as to read my comments on Chicken|discussion and give me feedback, effect the changes I could not effect, get the proper "authority" to attend to same. I would like to help out and am willing to spend some time at it, but I don't really want to keep spinning my wheels over this if tptb want the article to live on as it is. I can understand if earlier participants got tired of redoing, considering all the recurring vandalism. RAD

I feel a bit responsible for your review of Reactive attachment disorder since it was my comment from your Signpost feedback page that likely prompted you to review. I suspect your recent edits introduced an error with respect to WP:MOSQUOTE; short quotes are not done in blockquotes, which is reserved for longer quotes. I believe it was correct per my read of WP:MOSQUOTE before you changed it. Also, the quote is already attributed to the DSM, so is already cited by inline attribution to the DSM. Also, DSM and ICD are defined in the first paragraph of the lead (although they could be better defined as at Tourette syndrome). Those editors have waited so long for someone to review; it would be helpful if you could undo those blockquote changes, because I believe they may not be consistent with WP:MOSQUOTE. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 03:34, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

VT, I feel for those editors, because there is no one on Wiki to review their article. It's a shame. Anyway, I feel like it would be best to put the quote back as it was before. They can fix the weak definitions on DSM and ICD by just grabbing my text from Tourette syndrome; they can literally fix that with one edit. I'd do it myself, but I probably shouldn't. GA Sweeps update

This is a form message being sent out to all of the GA sweeps reviewers. Thank you for all of your dedicated work in the difficult and time-consuming task of ensuring the quality of articles within the GA project. Many reviewers have taken time out of reviewing articles at WP:GAN (this may be one factor in the expansion of the backlog), writing articles, and probably getting some sleep! I have sent this message out to update you on our current progress and to remind you to please keep up with completing your reviews and updating GARs/holds. As of March 1, 2008, we have swept 20% of the 2,808 GAs we started with. At our current progress, all of the articles will be assessed in just under three years (based on when we started). If we want to complete the sweeps sooner, we need to continue reviewing at a higher rate (consider doing one or two more reviews a week or whatever you feel comfortable with) and inviting new, experienced reviewers. If you are taking a break, focusing on GAN, writing your own GAs, or are already reviewing articles like crazy, I still want to thank you for all of your hard work and hope you are pleased about our current progress. Keep up the good work and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 09:10, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that you reviewed the Straight Outta Compton article awhile back, and I was wondering if you could review The Chronic article that I have been working on ? It's up for a GA nomination. I have been improving the article for afew days now and I think that even if you don't have enough time to review it, your evaluation of whether it will pass or fail in the future would be helpful. I know that you must be busy with other stuff but if you could help me out it would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 22:22, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey, sorry to bother you, but I wanted to ask if you've had time to look over the article ? I know you must have lots to get on with, so I understand if you've had more important matters to attend to first. Thanks. Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 16:51, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for the amazing amount of work on the article. It, to me, does not look as good as it did but it does follow wiki rules (which is more important) I hope you found it readable and reasonabilly interesting. Once again many thanks Edmund Patrick ( confer work) 14:43, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Theatre March 2008 Newsletter

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (March 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 1 - March, 2008

Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!

New Look

As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're dead excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.

  • Colour scheme Those clashing colours have gone! All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightsteelblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
  • Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
  • To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page - no more excuses! At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
  • Article Structure This is a first for the WikiProject and is still under construction. What is the Article Structure page? Well, it's basically a rough guideline of sections to include when creating theatre-related articles - in particular, plays. As the scope of this WikiProject is so large, some sections of the Article Structure won't apply to all articles and other sections which will apply to a small cross-section of our article base have not been included in this Article Structure page. If you feel we have missed out something crucial which needs adding to most or all theatre-related articles then feel free to discuss it on either the Article Structure talk page or the main WikiProject talk page
Templates

All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed some that were missing. We have now added new templates in the form of:

  • {{WPTWelcome}} - a welcome tag to be placed on the talk page of a new user.
  • {{User WPTheatre}} - a userbox for members of the project.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre/Sidebar}} - this template should be added to the side of any/all pages within the project to help navigate between project pages.
  • {{WPTheatre User}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month

Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis (the clue is in the title!). The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page and we promise to adhere to it this time! It will be updated monthly! The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, August Strindberg. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.

And finally...

Thanks very much for reading down this far - hopefully future newsletters won't be this long! Please, if you can, invite new members and drop us a line over at the talk page to let us know what you think of the new look/newsletter and any suggestions you may have.

Guidelines

Guidelines aren't used to prohibit anything contrary to the edit summary you left on the Rajneesh article they are general rules arrived at by consensus. I make lots of clean-up edits based on guidelines but have had it pointed out to me that there are circumstances where something maybe done differently. Thanks.Awotter (talk) 00:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I did not intend for it to be a lecture, sorry if it came across that way, however, I still think you misunderstand what guidelines are for, they don't prohibit editors from doing anything on wikipedia simply because they aren't policies. That's why each guideline page has a disclaimer. Someone could easily misinterpret the use of a word like prohibit in something as visible as an edit summary to be a rebuke, something I don't think you intended and so I left this message. That was the only reason.Awotter (talk) 00:40, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. However, you might want to read the guideline you linked to, I certainly didn't see where it said anything about images being stacked on one side or another, other than it was ok to stagger them. As it is the change you made (now that I've looked at it) makes the article section less easy to read in my opinion.Awotter (talk) 00:49, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Please please please! dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 06:39, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Apology

VanTucky,

I wanted to apologize for my tone earlier, it was inappropriate now that I look back on it. Please forgive me for not realizing that even though you pointed it out.Awotter (talk) 02:23, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

I performed a copyedit on this article today and fixed the punctuation errors. I apologize for my unwillingness to listen to feedback yesterday. I believe that my review was justified, although I seem to be alone in that regard. I am glad to see that the criteria was changed so that this situation can be avoided in the future--hopefully this was all for the best. I was caught off-guard by your response, and I went on the defensive immediately. I suppose I was so caught up in trying to do the right thing by helping to cut down on the backlog of nominations that I interpreted criticism (for what was apparently an honest mistake) as an attack. That was probably not how you meant it, so I am hoping that we can all move forward with no ill feelings. Best wishes on getting the article passed as a GA, GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:01, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

GA Mentor

Hi there. I was thinking of doing some GA reviews, particularly (and maybe exclusively) within the sport section, where I have made a few recent nominations. I haven't done any before and wouldn't mind a couple of pointers if possible. I reckon I should be alright with the templates but if you have any guidance on how to go about it, I would appreciate it.

To start with I was going to review Oscar Pistorius and have added my indication to do so on the GA page. Peanut4 (talk) 22:15, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me with the advice. I'd use that page to come up with a review for Oscar Pistorius. I've added a temporary review to my own userpages at User:Peanut4/History. If you can take a look over it and see if it looks okay, then I'll get a feel for how I'm doing. Thanks. Peanut4 (talk) 00:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Gallus gallus gallus

Reading this paper it seems that the species is Gallus gallus, the sub-species is Gallus gallus gallus and all domestic chickens are breeds of this sub-species. Some people do give these breeds the designator Gallus gallus domesticus eg this paper, but since this isn't listed in the NCBI taxonomy I don't think this is the official nomenclature. Would you mind stopping for a while? I have a few ideas for the format of the article that I'd like to implement. bibliomaniac15 Midway upon life's journey... 02:48, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I've kept your idea for history, but I've tried to do a compromise for the images, following the MOS while moving the images up so that it skew the text and make the sections look unbalanced. I have my thumbnail size at 180px, and it looks fine on Firefox, in case you have different settings or a different browser. bibliomaniac15 Midway upon life's journey... 04:04, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. I was under the impression that left-aligned images were not allowed only in second-level headings and under, which is what it said in MOS#Images. bibliomaniac15 Midway upon life's journey... 20:03, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Mergers

I reviewed your action at Culling and although I agree with the action you need to review WP:MERGE for the correct procedure. It is very important that the edit summaries indicate where you cut and pasted from or you have page history problem under the GFDL. You probably should make a blank edit with an edit summary indicating the merger to and from but see WP:MERGE and let me know what you come up with.--Doug.(talk contribs) 01:10, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

...that Sho Dozono is a candidate for the 2008 Portland, Oregon mayoral race?

Hi VanTucky, you asked for any problems regarding the DYK to be forwarded to your talk, so here I am. The fact is that the hook truly isn't grabbing enough. It is merely a statement of fact, without any context explaining how this makes Dozono interesting, or even what the mayoral race is about. I suggest you expand on either who Dozono is, what the race is about, or somehow provide context so that the hook makes people want to click on the bold link. Also - I see yesterday you added a tag to my recent Malay kite. Following your advice, I have now included a section. What do you think? I should also note that, in an article of such length, sectioning isn't always required, and good old paragraph separation often does the job. Cheers, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 21:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

The hook looks much better. Well done. As for stubs - I'm not sure. I always thought a stub was a page with less than 1000 characters. Cheers, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 23:35, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Adminship

Are you looking to run in the near future? I'd be glad to nominate you, if you're interested. Regards, Anthøny 19:06, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, in my search for more information on this topic, I came across this page, which has some interesting information. It is from the same Language Log site as you have used in the Vinkensport article but it has some different information. It links to this page, which is written in Dutch but seems to have a lot of information. The writer of the first site has translated (or used Google Translator) to translate some of the information, including variations of acceptable songs (sections 7 and 8). I don't know if you would have to verify these translations, either through Alta Vista Babelfish, Google Translator or some other means, but I thought the page might help with additions to the article. I don't know if this helps, but I thought it was worth mentioning. GaryColemanFan (talk) 20:26, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I figured that you had probably seen them before. I figured it couldn't hurt to mention them, though. I didn't realize that it was just one club's rules (you can probably tell my Flemish is not great based on the fact that I thought it was Dutch). At any rate, it seems like the article is as good as it can get with what's available. Best wishes with its GA review, GaryColemanFan (talk) 21:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
I've had to re-read the GA criteria, and I'm still working on learning it. I really appologize, but I will not be able to review the article. I will remove the "on hold" note. iMatthew 2008 01:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hippie GA quick-fail

Hi. I've been trying to follow your remedy for several years now, but the article is "owned" by User:Apostle12 who continues to add the legacy section back into the article, unsourced. Although I have significantly improved and expanded the article since its first incarnation as an original research playpen, whenever I remove unsourced material and place it on the talk page with detailed comments, Apostle12 goes crazy and adds it back in, making a series of personal attacks lasting many weeks, including large numbers of paranoid, false accusations about my motivations for "destroying" his OR. Could you kindly suggest how I can bring the article up to GA standards without having to be subject to this abuse? Thanks. —Viriditas | Talk 09:48, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if there is still an advocate system in place that will appoint someone to represent me? —Viriditas | Talk 22:42, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Excuse the sarcasm, but how it usually works, is wasting two months of time discussing why the other editor fails to follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines. All I want is for the article to reach GA-Class and above. The other editor, however, is only interested in promoting his POV and has no concern for "meaningless" things like references and NPOV. I fail to see why I should participate in a process that will only prevent me from writing, which is why I have asked for an advocate. I don't expect you to agree, but I thought you should know where I'm coming from. I've been down all the DR roads, and in my opinion, they are a complete waste of time. I'm not here to get my emotional needs met or for glory, and the DR process only serves to support the attention vampires with the fresh blood they crave. Why does the process penalize editors who are willing to work within the system? I don't get it. If the article does not meet the criteria for improvement, and it can be shown that a certain editor or group of editors are responsible for keeping it from improving, then the editors willing to improve it and get on with things should not have to participate in DR. —Viriditas | Talk 03:19, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I have evidently failed to communicate. I am not a victim; if I was you would see me following in the footsteps of all the other "victims", forum shopping and wailing and moaning to every admin I could find. It seems absurd that an article is allowed to languish because of the non-efforts of editors who stonewall every attempt to improve it. But hey, like you said, this is Wikipedia, it's not a serious project. It it were serious, it wouldn't be driving away experts in droves. —Viriditas | Talk 04:26, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for your comments, I have changed the quotes in the article as you suggested...thanks again. I am still learning, so any input is most welcome. Seth Whales (talk) 09:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Best wishes. Acalamari 16:50, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Sho Dozono

An editor has nominated Sho Dozono, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sho Dozono and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikiprojects

Thanks! That reminds me, I didn't understand one of your comments at GAR. It was in a oenophile article of some kind, and you said that there was no requirement to invite people from relevant wikiprojects in. When I start doing language and style reviews for GAN, is it in general better to notify the relevant wikiproject, or not? (Reply here if you like.)

Dan

I meant when you review an article that falls under a certain projects purview, it is not required that you notify the project. A talk page notice at the article is the only requirement, and it's a courtesy to leave a personal talk note for the nominator. I did it for the wine article because I knew the project as a whole was heavily involved in their GA noms. VanTucky 22:14, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Theatre April 2008 Newsletter

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (April 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 2 - April, 2008

Welcome to the second edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter. This month's newsletter is focused mainly on recruitment and generally upping the profile of the WikiProject. Read on to find out more...

Recruitment

Just in case you haven't had a chance to head on over to our new-look WikiProject yet, this is to let you know that on the Templates page there is now a new "Welcome banner" which is to be placed on any new members talk pages. However, it is yet to be used as we haven't had any new members join the WikiProject within the last month! If you know of a user which has been contributing to theatre-related articles recently then why not drop them a line on their talk page and invite them to come and join us? That way, we can finally use thour lovely shiny new Welcome banner template. We hope eventually to be able to use this newsletter to show off about the vast numbers of new members we have joining us each month, rather in the way that the newsletters of other WikiProjects do.

Collaboration of The Month

This month's COTM has remained unchanged as no-one has nominated any articles to become the new incumbent. Quick - get yourself down to the COTM page and nominate an article for next month!

Assessment

Just a note to say that there are two articles down at the Assessment page which have requested assessment. Please could a member of the project pop over and assess them for us? It's only a small task.

Whilst we're on the subject of assessment, an ongoing task is to assess every article within Category:Unassessed Theatre articles, feel free to make a start on a few when you have a moment.

And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

We're currently looking for members to volunteer in the compiling of this newsletter each month - please drop us a line at the talk page if you're interested in helping - be it in the delivery or writing processes of it!

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the Participants list and also click here to stop receiving the newsletter.

To stop receiving this newsletter, or to receive it in a different format, please let us know here.
To view previous editions of the newsletter, click here.
If you have any news or any announcements to be broadcast, do let us know on the talk page.

My RfA...

Thank you...
...for your participation in my RFA, which closed with 85 supports, 2 neutrals and 1 oppose. I'm extremely grateful for all the the kind comments from so many brilliant Wikipedians I've come to respect and admire, as well as many others I've not yet had the pleasure of working with, and I'll do my best to put my shiny new mop and bucket to good use! Once again, thank you ;)
EyeSerenetalk 17:08, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

That's excellent! I'll begin writing my co-nomination then! Thanks! :) Acalamari 20:11, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I've written my co-nomination statement: we'll just have to wait for TimVickers now. :) Acalamari 20:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Can I request you?

I don't know if I'm allowed to request a GA reviewer, but I've had 6 GAs and you were my hardest and my best. (Wrad passed an article for me, but I'm going to assume that was a spectacularly written article, as he had nothing to request in its passage.) I'm not sure anyone else knew what they were doing. I have a film article up for GA, Mulholland Dr., and I would appreciate the challenge of getting it passed by you. I have particular concerns since it's a David Lynch film, and by nature confusing and open to interpretation. I would like to put this up for FA at some point. Let me know if I'm not following a protocol of some kind. Thanks. --Moni3 (talk) 00:41, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi just want to wish you the best in your RFA, the vote looks pretty good at the moment:) But would just like to ask can you explain what in the world question 5A in your RFA is and your answer of 42. I totally dont understand. I am at loss to understand the question and even more your answer. Can you help me out admin to be? Thanks Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 12:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll jump in here, whilst you're awaiting VanTucky's reply. Sceptre's question is a little bit of a joke, and isn't meant to be taken seriously, Roadrunner. I suspect VT's response may be explained by the subject of this article; if not, then I don't get it either :) Anthøny 12:43, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I'll take that. The beauracrat removed the q because quote 'Enough of this - remove the more pointless/ludicrous questions.' Couldn't agree more:) Roadrunnerz45 (talk) 12:44, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

PAW

Maybe you've stopped doing this for a long long while but weren't you at some point involved in WP:PAW or at least involved in the excruciatingly tortuous discussion of articles supervised by that project? My own experience was so negative in terms of dealing with both the "let's have sex with children" crowd and the more harmless, yet quite as stubborn, "will somebody think of the children!" crowd, that I'm convinced anyone with the patience to stick with it has a courage and dedication that is best explained by mental illness. :-) Pascal.Tesson (talk) 19:23, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. I guess you're not insane then. I basically had the same experience: you come in naively thinking that it can't be that hard to make progress once you've thrown away the NAMBLA bullshit but in many ways that's the easy part. At times, I think the only way to resolve content problems of these very sensitive articles is to lock them down and hand over the keys to respected academics in the field, because right now, the articles are just generating revert wars, RfCs, mediation cases, ArbCom complaints, not to mention a lot of bad blood and generally poor articles that, unsurprisingly, look like abandoned war-zones. Pascal.Tesson (talk) 20:53, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations. Dlohcierekim 21:37, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

1)UR Welcome. 2)No prob. Someone has expressed a concern that your RfA has developed a distinct tendency to become silly. <<LOL>>Cheers, Dlohcierekim 21:42, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

RFA thank spam

The baby in your RFA thank spam is so cute! :-) miranda 01:33, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I am going to put that on my userpage as "inspiration to edit wikipedia". :-) Cheers. miranda 04:33, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: my rfa

Well, it's not the first RfA I've participated in, but I just don't like people opposing for no strong reason. I guess it is time to leave him alone. Sorry 'bout that, and good luck. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 01:57, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I admit I'm not all that experienced in it, but I've done a few. ;) And I don't think there's a reason to be nervous this time around, it seems to be going well. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:01, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Your RFA

I wish I was higher than in the 70's - congratulations on making the Wikipedia:100. Really, I've been so impressed with you since the beginning of working with you on articles, that I didn't need to see the near-unanimous confirmation of my own opinion. It didn't surprise me at all. Congratulations, my friend. --David Shankbone 03:59, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Sandbox

Because I'm nosy, I went looking at your sandbox after I supported... very cute mopping pic you found! In the chicken pics I think you have a stray "'" somewhere... "thumbimag'n" probably should be "thumbimage", I think the pics will align better. Also, you might try grabbing the chicken image without the "seabright" search term highlighted to avoid the yellow on one of the words. I often find that (for a free Google Book) grabbing the PDF and finding the image that way lets me blow up the image to as large as it will go... Hope that helps. Looks like your RfA is going to be a cakewalk, that's awesome. ++Lar: t/c 22:38, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Your RFA

I just wanted to let you know that I voted in support of your RFA and I posted my reasons. Also, congrats on making the WP:100.--Kumioko (talk) 22:57, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, it was gone by the time I got to it. is an interesting concept, and probably could be written up in our tai chi articles somewhere, but what I saw (admins may read deleted articles, which you'll be able to do relatively soon, one hopes!) was an idiosyncratic pronunciation that wasn't really sourced well. Cheers! --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 00:09, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I just looked at your RFA page, 139! Woohoo! Very nice turnout. --Bradeos Graphon Βραδέως Γράφων (talk) 00:16, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

California Red (sheep)

I note that you removed Category:Sheep from California Red (sheep) since it is in the sheep stub cat. This does not seem to fit in with WP:Stub. It should be in the sheep cat and the stub cat. The sheep cat is for users and the stub cat is for editors. Also, convention is to place the stub template after the categories with two line breaks in between the two. This gives a nice page layout by putting a space between the stub notice and the end of the article. -- Alan Liefting- (talk) - 06:39, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: WTF

Yeah, I was just testing a few things out to see how it would work. While I do think that we need to make some sort of effort to better preserve GA reviews, it's a lot of work, and there's probably a better way to do it than this. Not sure what that is? Dr. Cash (talk) 18:04, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Polish chicken?

What do you mean by Polish in the Houdan (chicken)? Could you disambiguate the link? Thanks! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 02:15, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Speckled Sussex

Hi there. I tried the image of the speckled within the related section, but then i tried moving the image of the speckled sussex up a few lines and the article seemed to flow better. Did you have a strong feeling that the image should only appear with its top at the subsection or were you more neutral about the relative positioning? Or is there an MOS guideline about it? Thx! - Owlmonkey (talk) 04:22, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Didn't look stacked so tightly to me, but perhaps that's just an effect of my browser. Also it will change if the article expands of course. The primary reason I was asking was to see if there were other policies at play. I've only added a few photos so far but I want to be consistent. But is the section relevance point a guideline or more your personal take? In some articles, adding photos to a subsection would cause stacking because of the number of photos so I've had to be careful and scatter the pictures. In other articles it's not an issue. So the MOS guideline seems to conflict with the section relevance sometimes. Thx. - Owlmonkey (talk) 15:34, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

Is going great! Congratulations...so far! iMatthew 2008 15:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd warn against any complacency - at least until you reach 200. :) Tim Vickers (talk) 21:11, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
I doubt it will break 200, there's only two more days, and I doubt sending chicken breed articles to GA is gonna push me up by 25 votes VanTucky 21:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Depends on the breed and what it did when it crossed the road.;-)--Kumioko (talk) 21:21, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Condolences on not making WP:200, but congrats on having a landslide RfA. Enigma message Review 03:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh yeah, and it looks like you're going to make the top 10 all time in number of users supporting an RfA. :o Enigma message Review 04:01, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Adminship

Sorry for the lag in response time. I have taken some time off from Wikipedia and have just recently decided to return. When I said I thought that our perceptions of adminship differed, I was referring to this type of oppose: [3]. For whatever reason, your name was on my small list of candidates who I thought worthy to oppose over this (note, however, that this perception was fading at the time I saw your newest RfA, so much so that I simply chose not to participate in it at first). However, racking up three nominations from editors I highly respect, especially TimVickers, and your vote [4] on the di Stefano AfD were more than enough to persuade me that although our perceptions of adminship may not coincide, your amount of clue regarding the ultimate purpose of Wikipedia, to be an encyclopedia, was more than satisfactory. Cheers, and let me be the first to welcome you to the admin ranks. RyanGerbil10(Kick 'em in the Dishpan!) 18:02, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Equine

VT, saw your edit making WPEQ a "child" of WikiProject Ag. However, note in the next section, we already had listed WPEQ as an affiliated project to WikiProject Ag and WikiProject ved med, etc. I have no clue what the protocol is for relationships of wikiprojects, but can you clear up the duplication so it's either one or the other but not both? Thanks Montanabw(talk) 04:15, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
