Request Move / Questions

Hey Stephen:

A few months back I asked if you could unlock an article that you moved to my account. Today I'm here to request if you could move http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Krispin16/VSide back to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vSide. I also have 2 questions. One is about web references. Is it preferred to use work=XXXXX in web citations? The other question is about images we added to the article. They were removed because the copyright conflicted with pictures in the user pages. Is there a way to undo that, or do we have to re-upload those again?

Request for undeletion

Hello i have been using wikipedia for a while but i had just made a user account today, just to do what i am doing now. I noticed that the page "Initial D Car Modifications and Character Relations" had been speed deleted by you in 2007 under the code (csd r1). I researched a bit to understand more about the guidelines of deleting, and i do not quite understand. Why was this page deleted? It had valuable information to all Initial D fans, and contained information that i could not find anywhere else. But there is an alternative to undeleting the page, there is another page regarding Initial D that is titled "List of Initial D characters and teams". This page has a list of the main characters and information about their cars. The only problem is that it is missing some information, that i am sure was in the page "Initial D Car Modifications and Character Relations". So if you could please go over this specific deletion and maybe look into finding more information for the other page, i would be joyed. Thank you for your time. Deletion

I'm curious why you think an article on a 60 year old canoe manufacturer doesn't indicate notability. Do you think this subject is less notable than someone who plays one game in the NFL or qualifies for an Olympic team? I was also not given an opportunity to dispute the deletion on the article's talk page. This type of deletion makes working on Wikipedia rather unpleasant. I hope you will be more helpful and supportive of goof fatih contributions made to Wikipedia in the future. I don't see any need to rush to delete the work of others. Finding sources and working up articles takes a lot more effort than pushing buttons and tearing stuff down. I understand that Wikipedia is fast losing contributors. MSU Interview

Dear Stephen,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Vandalism by 129.15.131.141

This person or persons keeps going to all NCAA pages and remarkably has the attendance to all games of the past. On the Georgia page they say a year book is a source. I can claim anything myself however that does show the sores. I think it needs something more than that to show they know what they are posting/ editing. I have deleted quite a few not because I don’t like what they are editing they are unhorsed and it kind of looks like guess work. It seems they don’t seem to want to work with anyone on them. If you go to the media guide for 2012 it shows some of the numbers a close or the same. However I randomly checked two years and the number are made up. 1964 This poster has 738361 total, real number was 364142, they had the top attendance game right GT game 52050. 1966 was the next year I checked this one was closer they have 428734 tot, real number was 416368, the top att game they have SMU at 75504 real was Florida 62800, they had this game as 62820. In absentia

Hello. The previous wording of the line was poorly formed - putting it into active voice (which I have now done) helps to illuminate the problem. One is not "sentenced in absentia" as if it were a compound verb. The relevant details of the sentencing (i.e., term of imprisonment, execution, etc.) functions as a direct object, while "in absentia" functions as an adverb, since it modifies the verb. The direct object should be placed either directly after the verb or directly after the indirect object, and the adverb. For example, one would not say "Frank kicked slowly to Jim the ball." Need for a "Satellite Direct" article

Hi Stephen, I noted you and Tedder ended two attempts to setup a "Satellite Direct" article in March of 2011, and I commend you both for that. Since I'm not an administrator, I haven't been able to see whatever "ad" was attempted by them back then, but I have no doubt that this "somewhat scuzzy" company was attempting to use Wikipedia as one of their advertising platforms for what I see as their very heavily "hyped up" and somewhat misleading advertising campaign.
Having said that, I have recently become a subscriber of theirs, and I do believe that their company isn't "total scuz". There is a certain element of value in their product, even though the value of their product is not very well represented by their hyped-up ad campaign. They've now been around for a couple of years, and a Google search on their name now yields nearly 2 million hits. Also, there is currently much confusion on the internet where their name gets mixed up with a magazine that goes by that same name, as well as the dish satellite company "DirecTV". Therefor, I think that it may be time to restart an article about them, to be vigilant to prevent any of their minions from commandeering their article for their own advert. purposes (as I'm sure they will attempt at least once or twice), and to set up a good disambiguation page to clarify which company is what.

PPS: If you're up for considering whether or not Wikipedia could host a neutral and factual article about this company, I would be willing to promise that I will keep a certain type of "vigil" over that article for a reasonable length of time to guard against any spam edits there. If the company repeatedly vandalises their own article, then we could simply put an 'editorial lock' on the article to stabilize the article and keep them out. Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news/Archive_42#RD_max_lifetime gave us this: RD items are removed when the date of death is older than the oldest item on the template. However, like normal template items, there is some "feasible maximum" of items you can have on the template (you can't really have 7 RDs at once), and that's seemed to be 3 at a time, since for many browsers it causes additional wrapping. Decade portals

Hi, Stephen! I took a look at this edit.

Disasters and calamities with numbers of casualties define decades. Oklahoma City Bombing and the Waco Attack characterize the 1990s, for instance. September 11 characterizes the 2000s, etc. Therefore decade portals are highly relevant to disasters.

These decade portals come from the French Wikipedia and they need the same level of exposure that the French give to their equivalents. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Revision deletion request

Hi, Stephen. I randomly picked you from the list of admins who do revision deletion. Back in 2009, somebody edited my user page to include a message that should have gone on my talk page [4] (in fact, it was part of a campaign by sockpuppets of Montreux69 so it shouldn't really have gone anywhere). Later, another user added [different garbage] to my user page. Since then, various IP editors have restored one or other of these edits several times and I've blanked them. Is there any chance that the old versions of my user page (i.e., everything except for the current empty version) could be deleted from the history to stop people from restoring them? The conflict of interest arises by virtue of you wanting to write an article about a person with whom you have a close connection. Have another read of the conflict of interest guideline. It may prevent you from writing a neutral balanced article. Let's take one example. You say that Kevin in the ONLY motivator to have a day passed through Congress. When I look at the congress link, the text doesn't mention Kevin, and suggests that it is only support for NY and Long Island's efforts to create a day. Where is a reliable, published source that establishes the fact stated in the article? The actions of these brave men and women on September 11 have motivated each American to do something to better contribute to the good of our society. Today we need to publicly recognize the importance of motivation and inspiration in our daily lives. House Resolution 308 supports the goals of celebrating National Motivation and Inspiration Day on January 2 of each year, a time that is traditionally used for reflection, planning, and goal setting. There is no better time to celebrate motivation and inspiration than during the season of New Year's resolutions, when we are all trying to find ways to maintain our goals throughout the year.
