Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Stantyan. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Aspening (talk) 17:29, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Please unblock my account since I was not trying to promote anything. Yes there was a conflict of interests, I was editing a page for a company where I worked. However, I did not know how sensitive these edits are reviewed. I will follow all the rules from now on. Stantyan (talk) 09:01, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

No one is asking you to follow all the rules; there are a lot, and I'm an administrator and I'm not aware of all the rules. We simply want to to abide by the rules relevant to your editing. Please review WP:COI and WP:PAID and tell us how your future edits will be consistent with those policies, and also tell about any other topics unrelated to your conflict of interest that you may edit about as a general contributor. This will help to demonstrate your understanding of the relevant policies. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:07, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello, WP:PAID is not related to my case at all! No one paid me to make these edits. Check the history of my edits. I was trying to update a company page that was not edited for 4 years. Do you understand that companies evolve and new things happen in companies? I was trying to updated an already established page.

Yes, there was a Conflict of Interests, because I was working in that company, but that does not mean I was trying to promote anything. I just cared to update our company information.

From now on, I will simply not edit any pages that may be subjects to WP:COI. I'm planning to contribute to several general interest wiki pages that have outdated information. Stantyan (talk) 09:15, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You said that you worked for the company, that makes you a paid editor. You don't have to be specifically paid to edit or specifically directed to edit.
You will need to make another unblock request for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 09:53, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I was asked to submit another unblock request for someone else to review. Short story: back in 2019 I wanted to edit a company page while workong for this company. So this was Conflict of Interests issue. However this was purely my personal initiative and no one within my company asked me to do this nor paid me to do this. The page just contained outdated information that have not been edited for 4 years from 2015 to 2019. No one cared about the page: outdated logo, outdated links and info, etc. I was just trying to update, and not to promote. Please unblock my account. Those were my first edits ever, and I did not realize how sensitive it is for admins to review edits with conflict of interest issues. I will

Decline reason:

Procedural decline due to lack of response by Stantyan to Valereee's offer below. Nosebagbear (talk) 10:37, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What sort of edits do you intend to make if we were to unblock you? SQLQuery Me! 21:59, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm into lego for quote a while. Not the company but the actual "toys" and experience itself. It is such a huge and amazing ecosystem with endless possibilities. I found some outdated and missing information on the Lego Technic and Lego System pages. This is one of the examples. Another topic I'm interested in to contribute to is Computing and engineering. I will add only factual information that has significance to the audience, and only if there wil be a reliable source. Stantyan (talk) 06:38, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Stantyan. What we at minimum want you to agree to is:
  1. Not directly editing any articles about your employer or other employees, or any edit that involves your employer or other employees, such as mentions of them on other articles. You can make edit requests at the article talk page; there's information at WP:Edit requests. (The exception would for for actual libel of a living person; any editor can remove that on sight.)
  2. Disclose your COI on your user page, which if you're unblocked you'll be able to edit, at User:Stantyan. Instructions are at WP:COI.
Does that sounds like something you'd be able to agree to? valereee (talk) 17:08, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Valeree, sorry for a late reply. Yes, I agree to this. Please unblock me. Stantyan (talk) 07:21, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
