Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, SommerLarson, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Thank you for the information. It appears more than just my edits have been deleted. Why is that? SommerLarson (talk) 19:54, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Much of it has been removed because of a promotional tone, or the information not matching what is in the source. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:01, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good afternoon, ScottishFinnishRadish. I'm new to this, as you have gathered. I'd appreciate your input on review of my newly written info. What's the best way to get this to you? SommerLarson (talk) 19:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can just put the text here. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:38, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @ScottishFinnishRadish. I just put the links beside where I will place the references for now, if I added any.

I realize that ScottishFinnishRadish suggested you could just post your proposed changes here, it's not the usual way to suggest changes. It's a burden on other editors to have to compare one large block of text that is being proposed to replace another large block of text where much of the original text is intended to remain unchanged. If you could break down your proposed changes into smaller bites, it would perhaps be easier to assist you.
The other thing you have not addressed with these posts is the original question of whether you have some sort of connection with Anderson or one of his projects.
One reason other editors may see some of your edits as overly promotional is that they are cited to Anderson's own work or interviews. Anderson has magnificent skills as a self-promoter, so we need to avoid allowing that promotion to wind up in the article. It would be best to find sources that are independent of Anderson and reflect in-depth biographical coverage of him. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 23:53, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
jmcgnh, sorry about that. I was expecting a much smaller bit of text that I could provide feedback on. Turns out it was a lot, and I haven't had the time to look through the sourcing and provide any feedback. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:16, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I do know him. I realize now I need to disclose that and use the appropriate template. I'm just unclear with it now being categorized as a biography if I have to use the same process with the conflict of interest template. A national news station is doing an in-depth segment on him soon and I'd like to ensure things are accurate before it airs. SommerLarson (talk) 16:00, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend that you explain your connection with him by writing a simple explanatory statement on your user page. The templates lack nuance. You should, in your statement, be clear about whether or not you are being paid for your efforts. That should satisfy the disclosure requirements, but you still have to be careful to maintain a neutral tone in your edits. And, if you have a conflict of interest, it's recommended that you make requested edits on the talk page of the article rather than edit the article directly.
While we do want accurate information, that information needs to come from a published, reliable source. I'm sorry you are feeling a sense of urgency about making the changes; I cannot assure you that they will happen in time for the broadcast. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 00:37, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any way to request to go back to the original article before I edited it? It would be much easier and far less to approve if I could start from there rather than where it’s at now. SommerLarson (talk) 15:25, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can view any past version of the article by looking at the article's history page: I think the version you want is this one: Special:Diff/993481035
Use that for reference, but I recommend against going back and editing from there since there have been a lot of intervening edits.
And I don't see that you've made your disclosure on your user page. That should be the very first things you do before making any more edits. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 19:27, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
