Did You Know?

[edit]

Dear Sd,

Nice job writing the Siamese Revolution of 1932 article. I think it would make a nice candidate for the Did You Know? section on the main page. Check out the Did You Know talk page and read the instructions. Make a few changes to the article you wrote and nominate it! Brian Adler (talk) 23:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your COA Images

[edit]

Dear Sd,

your SVG-Images are really fabulous, but the COA of the Napoleonic Empire has a small error: The arches consist of eagles, similar to those in the crown of Empress Eugenie depicted here [1]. Keep up your good work =) --David Liuzzo 12:28, 7 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by David Liuzzo (talkcontribs)

Thanks for your help, but isn't it the crown from the Second Empire?, my COA was for the First Empire but soon enough I will convert the First Empire COA to the second and will use your picture in it. Thanks for the help. (Sodacan)
Well, as far as I know it from my (german-language) sources (for example [2], the crown was created as heraldic imperial crown for the first empire. The second Empire used the crown again for this purpose, but created also a real existing imperial crown with the same design (along with the still today existing crown of the empress which survived the downfall of the empire because it was paid by private means. The imperial crown if the emperor was melted down, since the public had to pay its creation. --David Liuzzo 23:04, 12 March 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by David Liuzzo (talkcontribs)

Good job !

Congratulations :

File:Imperial Coat of Arms of France (1804-1815).svg and File:Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814).svg are very nice. Thank tou very much for your contributions to napoleonic heraldry. Yes, it is a really great job. Congratulations, you win the first empire laurels !

A Barnstar!
French Empire Laurels

For your job on the Royal and Imperial Coat of Arms. ---Strogoff- (talk) 15:34, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nevertheless, i have small remarks about thoses arms (french imperial and italian one).

  • First aval, the two branch of Legion d'honneur are not the same. One is oaks, the other laurels. You can see a lot of details here.
  • A second remark is about the crown. The french imperial crown is made of eagles. In your drawing currently, it seems peacocks.. ;-) (you can see a good example of the crown i think on the legion d'honneur picture).
  • The third point is a heraldic one. You use in the blazons shaded off colors. It look really great, but it's a historical mistake. The heraldic rules use only plain colors. For example, the red in the italian balzon have to be plain red. You can use a light effect on all the blazon.. no problem of that.

Please excuse my bad english, and again, but i'm a french user of wikipedia. If you have a SUL account, i'd prefer you answer me on fr:User talk:-Strogoff-. ---Strogoff- (talk) 15:34, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changes made (Sodacan)

I have found this File:Armoirie Napoléon Ier N&B.jpg from an old french book of 1854.you can follow the link i give in the description to find a good old book of french heraldry It is given inside this book as the COA of Napoleon I, II and III. I will look to others historical representation in order to know if you have to adapt your drawing or not. (I see commons:Category:Symbols of Napoleon I of France and find stone blazon too).
I have another remark about the ermine spot you use on the mantle you draw. It seems that for mantle, there is no use of such heraldic ermine spots, but a more realistic drawing, like you can see in the File:Armoirie Napoléon Ier N&B.jpg, or like this one file:Manteau pairfrance.svg. ---Strogoff- (talk) 00:02, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Hi Sodacan. I'd like to congratulate you on your phantastic new version of File:Royal Arms of Cambodia.svg. Keep on that good work. --hdamm (talk) 07:36, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Pursuivant's Barnstar
Your heraldic lions delightfully and accurately display each of the attitudes assigned to lions in heraldry. Your work has been a valuable contribution to the Heraldry and vexillology project and is greatly appreciated! Wilhelm_meis (talk) 16:13, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arms of the Qing Dynasty

[edit]

Yeah! It's very good. But there are some diferences between the original arms and this one. It doesn't matter for me, but it's very important for Wikipedia. You've made the arms very well. I think you can make it like the original. I've seen some emblems which were made by you, in your page and they are excellent. So is this one. I think you manage it. Could you do? The original arms and this one shoul be alike. Thanks...--Lord Leatherface (talk) 13:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK.--Lord Leatherface (talk) 14:16, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's very good. Than you very much. And would you make this emblem, too? You can use this flag.--Lord Leatherface (talk) 14:18, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National Assembly of Thailand

[edit]
  • Hello Sodacan, nice knowing you. I appreciate your contributions. The reason you gave is convincing.. and cant be refused. Only I'm quite curious when we should use the Constitution (the official English Translation) and when we should use Royal Institute Thai-Eng dictionary [3]. Recently, there are few controversies on the issues, such as the term 'constitutional monarchy', and the one that we discuss --> 'parliament'. --Look-Narm (talk) 04:01, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Arms of Siam

RE:ธงชัยเฉลิมพล

[edit]
  1. The Buddha images at the finial of Thong Chai Chalermphol (the unit colours, as translate in Royal Thai Armed Forces) is called พระยอดธง. It's a Buddha image with a cog for fix it with the flag staff. For the Thong Chai Chalermphol, this Buddha image is fixed in ซุ้มเรือนแก้ว (I don't know how to translate into English). You can see the design here (it's a small photo but it's a most clearly one I can find in Thai website.)
P.S. The finial of the Thai naval unit colours is a standing three-headed elephant under the royal crown. More details are available in กฎกระทรวง (พ.ศ. 2524) ออกตามความในพระราชบัญญัติธง พ.ศ. 2522 เรื่อง กำหนดส่วนประกอบของธงชัยเฉลิมพลของทหารบก ทหารเรือ ทหารอากาศ (text only).
  2. For the royal guard's colours, our national flag defaced with a white elephant in red rectangular and the king's royal cypher, the text around the king's royal cypher is the name of royal guard's unit. I have a book called ตำนานทหารมหาดเล็ก (the History of 1st Infantry Regiment, King's Own Bodyguard). Inside that book show the royal guard's colours of 1st Infantry Battlion 1st infantry Regiment King’s Own Bodyguard . The writing in this flag is Thai text read "กองพันทหารราบที่ ๑ กรมทหารราบที่ ๑ มหาดเล็กรักษาพระองค์". So when you create this flag into SVG format, Please note that is an example writing because there are 4 battalions in the 1st Infantry Regiment, King's Own Bodyguard.

Would you mind if I will send some photos in my collection of Thai unit colours to you by E-mail? If so, please response to me at my user talk page. My e-mail address is xiengyod2529(at)hotmail.com

Thanks for your work!

[edit]

Your COA SVGs are amazing, but may I request that you convert the following COA/Seals below to an SVG?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sounds good, man. Dang, that was a quick response! Your other COA SVGs are beautiful, so detailed, you must spend alot of time perfecting them. Could you leave me a message on my talk when they're complete? Thanks. Connormah (talk) 22:22, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Connormah (talk) 21:50, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for the first one! Can you get around to the other one in the next month? Thanks! BY the way, here's another COA that would be perfect for your style of SVGs. I'm not asking you to do it, just posting it here incase you're bored, and want to do something. Connormah (talk) 03:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Sodacan, would you mind vectorizing the images below for me? It would be great. Connormah (talk) 22:25, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, just the flag is okay.
Great job. One thing is that the circle containing elements is sometimes visible when viewing pages. Can this be fixed?

Imperial Coat of Arms of France (1804-1815)

[edit]

You have made a very good version of the Napoleon coat of arms. However, the head of the imperial eagle should be facing sinster, not dexter as almost all other animals in heraldry tends to do. /B****n (talk) 23:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to this page the napoleonic eagle was facing left for both the first and second empire. /B****n (talk) 06:24, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lions and cats

[edit]

Hi Sodacan. I just noticed the Lions in heraldry article. Your example gallery of lions is fantastic and looks very professional. I was hoping, if had the time, you could draw a few similar images of heraldic cats. There are a couple clan crest badges which feature cats and i don't think i'm ever going to be able to hunt down out-of-copyright images to use. Could you try and draw some of these cats? Here's the description of the crest, with an image to help visualise.

  1. A cat-a-mountain sejuant guardant Proper, his dexter fore-paw on the ground, his sinister in a guardant posture and his tail reflexed under his sinister paw. image
  2. A cat sejant Proper. image
  3. A demi-cat-a-mountain rampant guardant Proper, grasping in his dexter paw a serpent Vert, langued Gules, its tail environing the sinister paw. image
  4. A cat-a-mountain sejant rampant Proper. image
  5. A grey demi-cat-a-mountain salient, on his sinister foreleg a Highland targe Gules. image

If its too much of a trouble, or whatever, no worries. --Celtus (talk) 08:19, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sodacan. Yep no worries use anything. Some of the crests we've using in the badges aren't all that great, and we're missing quite a few too. So if you ever want to take a crack working on them, have at it. I'd be cool to have a full set of badges eventually. The font i used in inkscape was 'Bitstream Vera Sans', bold, and for the most part sized 110.--Celtus (talk) 04:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The blazons are listed here: List of crest badges used by Scottish clan members. Here are the five in order:
  1. Macgillivray
  2. Macpherson (i've already got one for this clan but it sucks, you can overide it if you want, or just create a new badge and we'll use yours)
  3. MacThomas
  4. Sutherland
  5. MacBain
I notice that you've got alot of requests and all that; there's no rush or anything. No need to get burnt-out over these babies. But thankyou.--Celtus (talk) 07:01, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sodacan. They turned out great. Probably the best ones we've got since you specially made them for the badges. I'm not sure about the Inkscape problem. I think it may be something, though i'm not sure how to explain this. What i have to do when using text in an svg is, once it looks ok in the image, i select the text and press ctrl-shift-c. This seems to convert the text into an image (so you can't format the text as text anymore). But when the svg is saved, the image and text comes out looking proper. I can't explain it much better than that. Maybe that's the problem. Anyways i added the mottoes to your badges. If ever you want to fix or re-do existing crest badges (some are pretty ugly), or fill in some the missing ones - help yourself! There's no time limit, its just for fun really. Thanks for the cats.--Celtus (talk) 08:17, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mongolia Coat of Arms

[edit]

Use this for the perimeter design

Hey man, if you have the time, could you please make a vector version of the Mongolia coat of arms? I recently uploaded the first image in the gallery, the other COA image we had was brutal in quality, but the colors are correct. Could you make a vector based off the design of #1, colors of #2, and perimeter design of the 3rd externally linked one? Thank you so much in advance, you're great. Connormah (talk) 23:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, take your time. Connormah (talk) 13:12, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sodacan, could you possible give me a timeline for this request? (eg. one month...etc?) --Connormah (talk) 19:38, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's completely fine, no rush. Did you mean the end of July? Connormah (talk) 15:25, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Superb! Thank you so much! Connormah (talk) 16:37, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Royal Standards of Thailand

[edit]

Dear Sodacan,

The tired- umbrella of File:Standard of the Crown Prince of Siam.svg and File:Standard of the Crown Princess of Siam.svg should be five, not seven. Please see the text of the Flag Regulation of Siam Rattanakosin Era 116 and 118 which I have copied of The Royal Gazette at my flag blog (http://xiengyod.bloggang.com). The flags in this blog is not the original images, I have edited form many sources picture.

Image coloring request

Above is a logo that I've extracted from a PDF File, black and white. I've tried to color it to the likings of File:EPS_patch.gif, but I cannot get some gradients right. Could you please complete the coloring for me, and make the image bigger? Thanks in advance, please get back to me before my SVG is marked orphaned. Connormah (talk) 00:59, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am very fascinating and impress of the work. Your creating vector image files are very good. So I need your help, I am writing or editing about Thai Royal Family. I saw you created Their Majesties athe King and the Queen's royal flag.

So I would like you to create the vector image files of the Royal flags of the other member of the Royal Family. Like Their Majesties' vector-version image:

Thank you very much. It is my very pleasure of contacting with you. You are my hero.

I am Thai citizen, too. hehehe

Thai Military Colours

I have been upload the colours of Royal Thai Army and Royal Thai Air Force to Commons as follow:

Graphic Request

[edit]

Hello Sodacan,

Excuse me for bothering you with this request, but you are one of the best SVG-artists when it comes to heraldy in the commons-community. If it would be possible for you, could you perhaphs create a vector image of the Austrian Imperial Crown? It's often used in coats of arms and flags relating the the House of Habsburg and the Holy Roman Empire, so having a vector version would be great.

The two images below might be used as examples.

If you'd be able to carry out this request, it'd truly be great.

Sir Iain (talk) 19:01, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you very munch for taking this on!. Cheers! Sir Iain (talk) 17:19, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done I've already done this, didn't know about this request. I hope you haven't started this yet, Sodacan. Adelbrecht (talk) 14:38, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reusing images

[edit]

I'd like to reuse some (6-10) of your attitude images in a book I'm rewriting, on the vanity press (i.e. very limited in production). Clearly, CC-BY-SA allows me to reuse this with attribution, and a similar license (no problems on the latter). The point about the former is that I'd usually use a username and then the image URLs as fair attribution; since I can contact you, I thought I'd ask whether a) you'd like your actual name (no need to post here, email me using the feature on here), and b) there was one URL that could supersede the 6 to 10 others, for sake of simplicity and page area. Keep up the good work by the way (and living in Britain as well!). Grandiose (me, talk, contribs) 16:49, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
