Vellore

Hi

Thanks for that speedy and pretty comprehensive set of edits and refs !

08:11, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

I am not familiar enough with the subject to make any detailed arguements or assessments, but it appears that an editor with very little understanding of WP:NPOV has returned to the article and another set of eyes on the article will be helpful. Active Banana (talk) 03:23, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Is this edit [1] also of concern? Active Banana (talk) 03:58, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Undid it. Thanks for trying to talk to Raghavan2010. I doubt he will listen. He will be back soon i guess. He and other people like him pop up once in a few weeks and try their POV pushing. It is getting fairly ridiculous now :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 04:01, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Re: Premier=Chief Minister?

When I perused sources on early Premiers as Raja of Panagal, I found that they were more frequently referred to as "Prime Minister" than "Chief Minister", which is why I got the doubt. The Premier and his two cabinet colleagues were also referred to as First Minister, Second Minister and Third Minister, respectively.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 02:28, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Please have a look at this. Someone is repeatedly adding weakly-sourced POV-content and trying to justify it.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 03:34, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Hindi

Why the Hindi script should not be used? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.178.180.101 (talk) 08:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

We add native scripts of languages in which the title is in (eg. coimbatore is a Tamil word. So only Tamil script is given). Since it is not a Hindi word Hindi script should not be used in this particular article.--Sodabottle (talk) 08:53, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi!

It's been a while :-) How did the conference go? Would you, by any chance, be able to attend our meetup in Bangalore this Sunday? Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 15:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

It was great. Crowd was phenomenal. There were several minor hiccups. There was a mixup in giving ID cards and wikipedia volunteers did not receive any. Without IDs most of us were confined to the stall and couldnt attend any paper presentations/other sessions. And i picked up a nasty flu bug from someone in the crowd :-). I have a rough write up. Ta Wiki has a file dump from all of us who took photos here and videos here. And regarding the meetup, i am still recovering from my flu, so i have to pass this time.--Sodabottle (talk) 15:29, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Very nice! Went through the pics today (I can't read Tamil script, so had to have a friend at hand to read out the captions). Could you upload some of those, after processing, to Commons with captions? Also, if you have the write-up ready and are free, can you start work on the July edition of the newsletter? There'll be another write-up from Wikimania — these two should form the core of the current events section. Then the usual standard notices about new/saved FA's, GA's etc., and any other initiatives/current activities. I'll be able to work on the newsletter from this weekend. Take care, and here's to you recovering soon from the flu :-) Hope to meet you at a subsequent meetup! Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 16:51, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

New Edits done to Periyar article

I've added new information in the controversies section in Periyar article regarding his spat with Munuswamy Naidu.Just tell me whether it is required for the article or not.

Raghavan2010 (talk) 13:30, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Its ok. but needs rewording. It is not exactly periyar vs munusamy naidu. rather a freewheeling faction fight within the justice party. Munusamy naidu's faction favored admission of brahmins into the justice party. The zamindar faction opposed it. In 1929 periyar was not an official member of the party (a guest invitee to their confederations, but not a party member). Periyar sided with those who opposed the measure (and succeeded in defeating the resolution). So it was not exactly a spat between the two men. Has to be reworded . let me think on it (sunday evening. brain not working well)--Sodabottle (talk) 13:35, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Ok then,Since this is a GA article the information has to be in a presentable manner.

Please read the article regarding the neutral point of view - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view. By publishing what you did on Ekal Vidyalaya, you slander the organization. Please provide factual information from a first hand source. By writing what you have just published on the Ekal website, you continue the 'edit warring.' As I have previously, stated, if you wish, you are welcome to start a 'controversies page' that address any biases you wish to publish as fact. However, do not tarnish the Wikipedia article nor the organization. With respect, Thank you.

Request for Review - Brahmadesam (Villupuram)

As you are from TN, i felt it's better to approach you & Car tick.

  1. Can you tell me how can i redirect search result of Brahmadesam to Brahmadesam_(disambiguation). Because whenever i type as Brahmadesam it is straight away directed to Brahmadesam of Ambasamudram Taluk of Thirunelveli District in Tamilnadu which is not supposed to happen.
  2. Can you review the article & provide rating for it. As it is a article on village who's name has not reached media, i had lot of difficulty in gathering references for the article. I have put my best to bring the article to this stage. Pls help me in this regard. Thank you once again!! Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 05:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
The first can be achieved by moving the brammadesam tirunelveli article to Brahamadesam (Tirunelveli) and redirecting Brahmadesam to Brahmadesam_(disambiguation). Regarding the review, give me a week (haven't got much wikitime and there is a huge backlog in to do list). --Sodabottle (talk) 05:34, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that Soda!. Later, If u find little time to review the article , pls review & give ur feedback. Can you tell whom can i approach for reviewing & rating the article. Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 06:35, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
This is the wikiproject India's assessment page. But as you can see there, there is a big backlog for assessment. You can add your article to the list. The active assessors i know of (among Indian editors) are User:Redtigerxyz and User:SBC-YPR. You can also request them to take a look. But remember, reviews often are unpleasant and won't go the way you want (like what happened in TNPL). You should be prepared to take the review comments and the changes by reviewers in good faith. --Sodabottle (talk) 06:44, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice Soda! TNPL is my first article,it was my learning experience & after that i have created one Artice titled CERC in which i took utmost care to avoid issues. similarly this article also i have created keeping in mind all those things. Anyway thank u so much one more time for reminding about TNPL incident. Have a nice day!!! Raj 6644(தமிழன்) —Preceding undated comment added 07:13, 28 July 2010 (UTC).
Thanks for the rating!!!. But the Talk History for Brahmadesam says rating it as start; needs a little push - images and more content - to become a C. So where the rating for the article is given., Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 04:21, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Reverted your edit (or more correctly to Goethean's version), because the other parts of the section were well sourced (and ergo do not need to be commented). The page does not need empty subheadings, or any subheadings at all. Otherwise, I think our edits were in the same vein, save the stylistic issues. Chennappa Naicker

I'm currently finding no articles exist in Wikipedia about Chennappa Nayak,a Telugu Polygar who is believed to have found the Capital of Tamil Nadu and administered it.Could you help me create an article on this?

Raghavan(Talk) 13:53, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Not much biographical details available for him except a few snippets from Francis Day's writings and company documents. Taken together we can muster a four sentence stub perhaps. I will create the stub (say in a couple of days). Do you know of other sources?--Sodabottle (talk) 14:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

I just started the article here:Chennaiappa Naicker.Only information I found about him was in the Sriranga Deva Raya article and a source from the Chennai page.I've to research other sources from Google.

Raghavan(Talk) 14:26, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

I've asked Kumarrao who is one of the trusted Telugu editors to help me expand the article with some sources.

Raghavan(Talk) 15:16, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Since his proper name is Chennappa Nayakudu and not Chennaiappa,I've shifted the information to Damarla Chennappa Nayakudu from the old one.

Regarding Semi-Protection for EVR page

I talked to Active Banana regarding semi-protection for EVR page citing the edit war done by the IP editor. He gave a nod to apply for semi-protection and also warned the IP editor. However,he said that though we have a good reason to apply for semi-protection,we would get it only if the IP editor continues his POV and keeps abusing us.

Raghavan(Talk) 05:17, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Plus myself and Cartick have tried to convince the vandal not to continue his POV and instead do something useful.I've talked diplomatically stating that though we have added enough proof regarding all 3 connections of EVR:Tamil,Telugu and Kannada,we can't allow scripts in native language due to concerns expressed by senior editors who have made this a GA.Not sure whether he will listen though.

Input requested

As an individual involved in development and improvement of India film articles, you have been able to research and add sources to Indian film articles when their authors did not. You are also better able than I to gauge the volume of Indian coverage for such articles so as to see if they might meet WP:NF or WP:NFF. As in some cases the guideline NFF is in direct conflict with policy, I would appreciate your input (pro or con) at a discussion I have opened at Wikipedia talk:Notability (films)#Proposed ammendment to WP:NFF. Regarding Madurai and Thanjavur Nayaks

The Madurai and Thanjavur Nayak articles have apparently been hijacked by some casteists who have been so intent on proving that these kings were Balijas that they have completely neglected the articles.Even comments by experienced editors like Kumarrao and Altruism asking not to go on repeating their claims have proved futile. They even say that Madurai Nayaks and Kandy Nayaks are related but have different surnames.I need your help regarding the following: 1.The only reliable source for both these articles regarding the caste origins is "Balijavaru Puranum" by S.P.Narasimhulu Naidu.I need a online link for the same. 2.In my opinion some parts of the article need expansion and some rewording to make them look better. 3.We need to protect these pages from Trolls whose only job is to go on bringing unreliable sources on caste claims.

Raghavan(Talk) 02:01, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I've even started a section in the Talk section of the Madurai Nayak article regarding the same.Hope you will respond.Raghavan(Talk) 02:56, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I am not eactly familiar with the subject. Let me read up a bit first, before i wade into it. I will check with my library if Balijavaru puranam is available. It is in PD, so if i find it, i will scan it and upload to archive.org--Sodabottle (talk) 14:16, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I removed some factual errors regarding dates and repeated sentences in the Madurai Nayak page and also found a source for Thanjavur Nayaks:[2] Just let me know if its reliable enough.

Acute observation on your part. Since I am teaching a course on military history at the moment, my language skills are in military mode at the moment. :-) I would greatly appreciate if you would use your fresh point of view and copy edit without reference to me as I am trying to churn out maximum text/articles while it is still clear in my mind. Your subnationalistic edits

It seems that in your role as a Wikipedian, and a "autoparolled, reveiwer and rollbacker" at that, you seem to have forgotten some basic rules that are to be followed by Admins as well as lesser people like yourself. You are using your co-called powers to impose your subnationalistic views as you have done in the case of Kanyakumari District and Padmanabhapuram a while back. I am that same user now with my new WIKI account.

Do not think that I shall let those go just like that. There are Admins around and I shall do the needful. What I note about you is that the user with the IP Address - 99.254.242.12 has been engaging in subnationalistic edits in articles on Munnar etc and even places outside India. As I said this is not the last you have seen of me. Meanwhile I leave you with the message I left on the talk page of the user with the IP address I mentioned above for the same applied to you too.

"Your dirty creed thinks that everything they touch becomes theirs. You took KK Dist from Kerala when you were fourth-rate immigrants there 200 years back. You are cheating in the case of MP Dam. Munnar BELONGS to KERALA, is in Kerala, and will stay in Kerala till the end of this civilization. Your creed will continue to come wagging their tails there and clean latrines and toilets there. Do just that and dare not ever think that Munnar WILL EVER go to Toilet-Nadu. Toilet-Nadu will go the way of Pirabhakaram and LTTE before that ever happens.

You are removing ML scripts from KK Dist, Padmanabhapuram etc despite Malayalees having been there in majority till recently and you want to add ML script to Munnar??? These same Mallus welcomed your gr8 Tamil brothers when they came wagging their tails from Toilet-Nadu a few generations back. MOST people in Munnar speak Malayalam and will continue to do so. Tamils there clean latrines and toilets and do not go to school. BTW, this would be music to your ears. THE HIGHEST PEAK of South India and the Western Ghats - ANAIMUDI - HIGHER than your much hyped Doddabetta, Ooty and Kodaikanal, IS IN MUNNAR. NJOY." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mona1978 (talkcontribs) 06:30, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Your ethnic slurs notwithstanding, feel free to remove the Tamil script from Munnar. Tamil is not an official language there, so it should not be there. I actually oppose adding the Tamil script there. It serves no encyclopedic purpose just like adding ML script to Kanyakumari district and Padmanabhapuram--Sodabottle (talk) 06:45, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
hi soda, i am glad u didnt lose your cool. the Tamil-hatred is appalling. --CarTick 11:31, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Pandya and Chola articles

I recently found while cleaning the Madurai Nayak article that many sources for the Vijayanagara Empire cite that Cholas and Pandyas existed even during Vijayanagara times as petty rulers.Apparently,a civil war appears to have taken place where a Chola prince by name Virasekara occupied Madurai in 1528.Krishnadeva Raya who was ruling Vijayanagara then sent his general Kotikam Nagama Naicker to help the Pandya King but Nagama declared independence after defeating the Chola.Subsequently he was defeated by his son Vishwanatha who founded the Madurai Nayak Kingdom where the Pandyas continued as fuedatories.Achyutadeva Raya is also supposed to have married a Pandya princess during his Southern Campaign in 1532.Can we add this info to Pandya and Chola articles?

Raghavan(Talk) 15:01, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Nope. The accepted consensus in historical circles is the later chola line ends with Rajendra III and for the second pandyan empire with the civil war in early 1300s. Those who came after and claimed "chola" and "pandya" titles were collateral lines. There were a lot of claimants for the chola and pandya titles - every petty chieftain with ambition styled themselves as chola and pandya (especially pandya in ramnad/sivaganga districts). We cannot lump them with the main chola or pandya articles. Better to keep them separate. What we can do is add a single line that there were many claimants during the later centuries for chola and pandya titles AND create separate articles for them (either as individual kings or something like "later Pandya chieftains". Lumping any one later than 14th century to main dynasty articles will lead to a lot of other claimants clamouring for addition (there are a lot of them)--Sodabottle (talk) 16:08, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Well,If the claim of these petty rulers for ancestry is doubtful then surely no need to add them in the main articles. Was thinking of adding these info but thought of asking you once. There was even reference to a supposed Chera who supported Virappa and Jaggaraya in the Battle of Toppur for the Vijayanagara Throne in 1617.-Raghavan(Talk) 16:27, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Need Balijawaru Puranam

While editing the Madurai Nayak and Thanjavur Nayak articles,I noticed some date inaccuracies and corrected them.I also noticed that while there is an accurate source to back Caste Claims for Madurai Nayaks, the sources for Thanjavur Nayaks are unreliable and more of Caste Manuals.I was somewhat able to fix the dates in the Thanjavur Nayak article using this source by a reputed Tamil Author[3] and removed the sources quoting Caste Claims. However,I got flak for this from an editor who only comes to watch these articles once a while and he put back the caste claim sources.I had previously asked for you to get me an online copy of Balijawaru Puranam which is an accurate source for the caste claims. Please do upload it soon.:)-Raghavan(Talk) 13:33, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

I am searching for it in my local library. It is a district HQ library and most probably has the book (there are a lot of similar rare books there). The problem is it is poorly indexed and arranged and the staff there are of no use. One has to dig through the library patiently for hours to find something one searches for. I spent like three hours yesterday searching for it (well not particularly this one, i was looking for two or three more ones too. did not find anything i was looking for, but some books else altogether). I will keep looking and see if someone has access to connemara library in chennai (where it would be definitely available). Will ask for help in Ta. wiki.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:40, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Rupee Sign

Hi sir, i need your guidance. whether it is ok to use this long sentence to disply a single rupee sign or you have any alternative? please tell me sir...

I am no "sir" :-). I saw Johnuniq's message in your talk page. He rises a good point - 71 characters of wikitext to display a single character is a bit excessive. Personally i prefer to wait till the Unicode Consortium allocates an unicode symbol for the new rupee sign (indian govt seems to be working on that). No harm in waiting till that character is allocated. That said, this only my opinion. Post this query in wp india's noticeboard. There you will get more input and advice from people much more knowledgeable than me.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:03, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

I read this article and found this more to be a collection of half-baked and loose knowledge while adding some edits. Also it is written more in a sense of caste worship and there is no mention of controversies like Dalit clashes,Reservation protests and more recently,a demand for a separate state for the caste by Ramdoss and his cronies. Also the origins section doesn't quote references for Hoysala,Ganga,Pallava affiliation etc. Also a majority of this caste who reside in the dry zone areas of TN like Vellore,Salem,Erode etc which border Karnataka and AP have titles like Nayaka,Naidu,Nayagar,Naicker,Nayagan etc which indicate they may have connections with the Vijayanagar Empire,a topic of interest for me.Since you have a good knowledge about TN politics and history,I suggest you could make this article readable from a NPOV.-Raghavan(Talk) 16:38, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

That article is a load of crap just like most of our caste articles across India. Every damn caste wants to trace its ancestry to every dynasty that existed in the region (and of course clamor for backward caste status at the same time -- apparently Kshatriyas were backward). This article is no different. I spent a little time removing the more ridiculous crap, and semi protected it, but I think semi-pp was appealed or whatever and it was changed to that pending changes thing and a lot of crap has found its way in. —SpacemanSpiff 16:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Spiff,That article is indeed a crap. The worst part is that Palli,Padayatchi,Nayagar,Naickan,Kander,Gowda,Gounder,Varma,Reddy,Kalingarayar etc are mentioned as among the 92 sub-castes of Agnikula Kshatriya while there are actually honorific titles present in many castes.Plus the only affiliation for which solid evidence would be available is Vijayanagar since most of the Agnikulas living in the "Dry Zone" bordering Karnataka and Andhra use titles like Naicker,Nayagar,Naidu etc which were traditionally given to Commanders who served in Vijayanagara and Nayak armies.Pallava,Hoysala etc need real solid proof. That was precisely the reason I posted this here in Soda's page since he has a good knowledge about Tamil History and Politics.Waiting for him to respond.-Raghavan(Talk) 03:27, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

One crore people belonging to that caste call him as maaveeran sundaralingam devendrar. It is the common name. How many others call him as veeran sundaralingam.May be you call him like that.If the common name is seen as per majority then my opinion is right. If u want to put your own choices then i will continuously change it.Then why are you using pallar and mentioning devendra kula vellalar in the bracket.Everyone knows to whom the name devendra kula vellalar refers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tamil1988 (talkcontribs) 12:12, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Relax. a) Common name just means how everybody (including all communities) know him. "Veeran Sundaralingam" is how a majority of Tamils know him. He is mentioned such even in govt reports. If you remember the old transport corporation it was to be renamed as "veeran sundaralingam". b) Before you abuse me remember, i wrote the article - if i had something against him or his community i would have let itself deleted. c)Not every one knows Pallar = Devendra Kula Velallar. Remember this is the English wikipedia, we write not just for Tamils but everyone in the world. Pallar is still the word widely used to denote the community. Our article on the caste itself is named as "Pallar". d) What you have threatened to do is editwar (i will continuously change it). This is not the right attitude to edit wikipedia. --Sodabottle (talk) 13:36, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Article on Erode

I can accept if you delete a few points written by me but deleting the whole thing is so not fare. There were a lot of completely true points especially about the co-ed schools, i am living in erode for many years and i know it all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poddarrishabh (talkcontribs) 15:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Maybe you are right, but wikipedia is not the place for commentary like that. Wikipedia does not accept original research (so "i live there and i know it all" doesnt count here). Add neutrally worded facts that are sourced by newspaper reports, books etc, not personal commentary. If you find unsourced information in other places, i encourage you to remove them as well--Sodabottle (talk) 15:28, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

well, i agree. if Soda chooses to invest time, he could do it. I have resisted my temptation to clean up some of these articles, i just dont feel like investing time only to be unreasonably attacked by total fanatics. Some of the castes have very good scholarly coverage. --CarTick 22:52, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Hum Hain Lajawab, a Hindi dub of the film The Incredibles is up for deletion here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hum Hain Lajawab. User:MichaelQSchmidt left me a note saying that you may be able to help with sourcing. I think with a bit of work, it can be shown that the film is notable. Thanks! Christopher Connor (talk) 00:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

commented there. i feel it is not notable on its own. Mostly because hundreds of english films get dubbed into Hindi and other Indian languages every year. And some of them do get voiced by A-list stars. Whats different about this the studio got Shah Rukh Khan to voice mr. incredible and tried to sell it to the indian audience (and failed). The news coverage that exists is all about Shah Rukh working with his son and nothing about the hindi dubbed film. It did not even get reviewed in major newspapers and media outlets.--Sodabottle (talk) 03:38, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm planning to start an article on the above since lot of the districts and taluks of present day states of TN,Kerala,Karnataka,Andhra and Orissa were carved out of existing districts of the Madras State.Plus few princely states like Thanjavur,Sivaganga,Ramnad and Pudukottai got merged at some or the other time into Madras State. The Madras Presidency article seems crowded,so thought of starting a separate article.Need your help with references.-Raghavan(Talk) 15:35, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

search in archive.org for "madras". there are a lot of district gazetteers for madras presidency. Also Edgar Thurston's book is there. And there are district maps in commons i think. --Sodabottle (talk) 15:40, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Delegates to the first session of the Indian National Congress

Hi! I've been working on articles related to the delegates from Madras Presidency who attended the first session of the Indian National Congress in Dec 1885. I was able to prepare this list but still many names are lacking.

Madras

There were a total of 8 delegates from Madras city. I could not find out who the other 2 where.

In this list I don't find Ragunatha Rao (he seems to have only accompanied the other delegates - not as a delegate himself). The remaining five are there along with C. Singaravelu Mudaliar, M. E Srirangachari, S. V. Athalye. Confirmed by this and this. There were a original six as reps of Madras mahajana sabha - g. iyer, s. iyer, naidu, anandacharlu, and T. Namperumal Chetty. Chetty drops out later and thee more are added - mudaliar, ranga and athalye.
Chingleput
Salem
Coimbatore
Tanjore
Tinnevely
Gooty
Bellary
Adding to the list [4] [5]: M. Nageswara Rao,(cudappah) C. Venkatachariar, Kristnaswamy Rout (salem), Pattabirama Iyer (Kumbakonam), P Subramania Iyer (Madurai)

According to history books, there were 22 delegates from Madras Presidency. But I was only able to find out the names of only 14 of them. I do not know who the others were. Could you help me over this?-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 13:50, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

I am finding the number 21 in many places (instead of 22)--Sodabottle (talk) 17:42, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
You had given 14. I removed ragunatha rao from the list. That left 13. I have found 8 more. That makes the total delegation by some counts. I will look for the 22nd man.--Sodabottle (talk) 18:00, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Final list

Here is the final list. There were 21 delegates. This is an additional source for confirmation.

'X' country participating in the Common Wealth Games

A wikipedian (User:Rahulchoudhary003) has created more than 30 individual articles for all the participating nations in the CWG,2010 with this template as basis. But all such article is having only one single line as content without any reference. What i have felt is, its better to create a list of 72 nations participating in the CWG instead of creating individual articles with single line of content. Pls advice / express your view on the subject being discussed here. Thank you. ----Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 12:00, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Request to restructure NW-4

Hi Soda. With the help of User:Bob1960evens, i have added a very informative template / map for national waterway 4. while i'm trying to add it, the structure of the article got little distorted. i request you to restructure it to make it good looking. Pls have a look at Template:National Waterway 4 (India) map. Also i request some way of reward to this guy who has worked a lot to create the map. Have a look at the talk page. ----Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 04:55, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

i will look at it. BTW, you yourself can express your thanks through a barnstar. Search for an appropriate barnstar (there are lots of them) and give him the one you think suitable. You are one of us now :-), so no need to ask me to reward him.--Sodabottle (talk) 05:07, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Can it be promoted to 'B' now? I have added the reference you asked for potential traffic part. Also i have expanded the Potential traffic section Raptor asked for. ----Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 05:36, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I too think it qualifies for B class. But unfortunately involved editors can't rate it and since i have heavily copyedited the article and you are the creator and main contributor, we can't rate it :-). Add it to the WP India assessment list. Will get rated in a couple of months or so (there is a backlog).--Sodabottle (talk) 05:40, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Feel free to call me soda or sodabottle. We can get to know each other in ta wiki.--Sodabottle (talk) 05:51, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Sari ok soda, i understand. but tamil wiki is little tough & difficult to handle. i want to do lot of contribution to ta wiki. but because of interface problem i'm not able to contribute much. anyway see u there in ta wiki. ----Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 05:56, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Tamil typing can be a bit tough. Don't use online tools like google and quillpad (they are quite bad). Use installed software like NHM writer or E- Kalappai - they are much easy and come with more keyboard options. The best way is to learn Tamil99, but it takes time and effort. I still use Thamingalam typing option.
Ok thanks for the suggestion :) ----Raj 6644(தமிழன்) 06:24, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Names of modern India in its official languages

I do not know why are you removing the names of India in its 22 official languages listed in the 8th Schedule even after they are appearing as a collapsable list. If in the article Sri Lanka the name can be mentioned in tamil alongwith Sinhala, then why not in India we can include the names in all the official languages when it is not making the article looking awkward as the list is in a collapsed state. SpacemanSpiff argued in the talk page of the article India The languages mentioned in the 8th Schedule are not the official languages of India. But in article Languages of India it is clearly mentioned that Article 345 of the Indian constitution provides recognition to "official languages" of the union to include Standard Hindi or any one or more of the languages adopted by a state legislature as the official language. Until the Twenty-First Amendment of the Constitution in 1967, the country recognised 14 official regional languages. The Eighth Schedule and the Seventy-First Amendment provided for the inclusion of Sindhi, Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali, thereby increasing the number of official languages of India to 18. Besides this there are two articles in the English Wikipedia namely Languages with official status in India and Names of modern India in its official languages, which clearly shows that all these 22 languages are the offical languages of India. I think if the names of India in different languages appear as a collapsable list then it will not harm the article India in any way. So is there any reason to remove all these languages? I think you will consider my opinion and will re-include my edition. -Trinanjon Basu (talk) 05:46, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

You may also have a look at the article South Africa. -Trinanjon Basu (talk) 05:49, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Trinanjon, i would prefer to have this discussion in the article talk page. Basically it boils down to this : 8th schedule languages are not official languages of the Union. Yes there is the argument that official languages of states = official languages of the union. But the constitution (and the official languages act, 1963 and its 1967 amendment) are quite clear about "official languages of the union" - Hindi and English. A collapsible list is much better than adding all languages directly. But IMO, the article is about the "union" alone so 8th schedule languages shouldn't be added. I am not alone in this opinion - this issue has been much discussed before - it is there in the archives. sometime in 2007 or 8, they had this same argument and decided to create the Languages with official status in India (which didnt exist before the argument) to clarify the differences between official language of the union and states.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:01, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Justice Party and Infrastructure Development

I don't consider the expansion of the then city of Madras as an "achievement of the Justice Party". If you look at the history of Chennai you will observe that the present city got its shape during the 1940s and most of the expansion took place between 1941 and 1951. The neighbourhoods of Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, etc. evolved during this period. If I am not mistaken, I guess, Saidapet too was integrated with the city at about this time. According to S. Muthiah, the development of Nandanam took place during the second Chief Ministership of Rajaji (1952-54) while the Guindy Industrial Estate and probably, K. K. Nagar came up during K. Kamaraj's time. Anna Nagar came up during the late 1960s. The creation of T. Nagar and the development of Mambalam comes nowhere near this. And even if the creation of T. Nagar was to be considered to be an "achievement" it could only be considered as an achievement of the Raja of Panagal and not the Justice Party I guess, for there was not much infrastructure development during the term of the other Chief Ministers.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 06:04, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Well i have clubbed everything good that happened during the justice regimes as its achievements. The section only mentions T. Nagar right? I will reword it make clear only T. Nagar was a major development during justice government (Rajaraman's book has mentions some other developments). the section is broad in scope - it covers everything good that happened during justice party government. If we are to say only the CM/leader is responsible for anything good or bad that happened during his rule, that would be cherry picking.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:19, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I have reworded the section to attribute T. Nagar only to Ramarayaningar's govt. (removed the generic "justice governments")--Sodabottle (talk) 06:24, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Were you planning to write about this? :) —SpacemanSpiff 10:50, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Dunno how i missed this one!!. Will add it to the list. Lots of good sources out there.--Sodabottle (talk) 10:57, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Could you look into this one? I have a hard time thinking any Deepak Pawar movie as non-notable. I gave it some cleanup, yes... but it needs sourcing and the synopsis is waaaaaay tooo long. Thanks, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Any Ajay Devgan starred would have been mainstream and notable. Karunanhidhi

Hi, user seems a bit singularly obsessed with the article, user has now moved the article and his first edit to the talkpage was to move it. I have left him a note suggesting he should have talked about it first and that I disagree that he is most well known under the new title, but I will leave it to someone else to join in first so I will not move it back. Update , User:SpacemanSpiff has reverted the move. Off2riorob (talk) 10:58, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

looks like a fan. the "dr. kalaignar" is used only by his partymen and toadies, which would be around 25% of the voting public (based on the support he gets). There are plenty of opposition/neutral/uninvolved media outlets that dont use the "dr. kalaignar" tag. since you and spiff are trying to engage him in his talk page, i will wait and watch if he corrects himself.--Sodabottle (talk) 11:28, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
