Re: Sonya Friedman
Hey, nice work on Sonya Friedman. Do you think the Books subsection should be placed at the end, after Personal life, per MOS:APPENDIX? Viriditas (talk) 21:43, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- I usually prefer putting Personal life at the end of the subsections because it's extra information about the person separate from anything related to their notability in almost all cases. If you want to swap them, feel free, but I prefer to personally structure them the current way. SilverserenC 21:53, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- That's interesting! I didn't know anyone did that. Cool. Viriditas (talk) 21:54, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, regarding ALT0, how do you feel about de-linking self-help, perhaps in another ALT, such that the link to the bio is first link in the hook? This tends to improve page views. Viriditas (talk) 22:07, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for the suggestion. SilverserenC 22:33, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Great. And nice job archiving all of the sources. I am doing a final read through now. Viriditas (talk) 22:37, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- The distance between the quote "never really developed as a person" is several sentences and is presumably found at the end of the paragraph instead of the quote. I can't follow all the changes to the policies and guidelines, but I thought at one time we were required to quote at the end of the quote, not just the sentence or paragraph, I don't know. I did find some old vestige of this guidance in a template no less:
- If a quoted phrase is the subject of discussion, once its "provenance" has been established by an initial citation, it is not necessary to require further citations at each subsequent mention. Where a citation at the end of a sentence refers to a quoted phrase, the proximity of a quoted phrase to the citation is of significance. The more words between the quoted phase and the citation, the less clear it is that the quote is drawn from the citation.
- It was "quote phrase".[1] (clear)
- It was "quote phrase" that did this.[1] (reasonably clear)
- It was "quote phrase" that did this, that and the other thing and something else.[1] (unclear)
- Resolved as:
- It was "quote phrase"[1] that did this, that and the other thing and something else - not to mention a few other things.[1]
- In the resolved case, it is clear that the quoted phrase is supported by a citation and not an editorial use of quote marks.

- WP:CONTRACT: "By 1976, she had become disillusioned with her position, thinking she wasn't yet good enough at her work for the special correspondents role." Change "wasn't" to "was not". Viriditas (talk) 00:05, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
A television show for her titled Telling Secrets With Sonya was aired by the USA Network from 1982 until 1985.
- This is a tough one. It looks like it is referred to by three different names. In TV Guide and industry sources, they call it Telling Secrets. In some sources, as you have noted, it is informally referred to as Telling Secrets with Sonya. However in 1985, USA Network advertised the show in print as "Telling Secrets with Sonya Friedman".[1] Viriditas (talk) 00:18, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
In 1994, Sonya Live on CNN was replaced with Talk Back Live.
- Talk Back Live should be in italics. Viriditas (talk) 00:21, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Two more things:
Friedman published what she referred to as the "last of my self-help books" in 1991 titled On a Clear Day You Can See Yourself. It wrapped up the information from her prior books, with Friedman saying she was "out of advice" and that it was time for "women to grow up".
- Given the explosive nature of that statement, it would be informative and instructive for the reader to expand on what she meant for "women to grow up", as it isn't clear. One additional sentence should suffice. I understand if you can't do this, but I did want to leave you this suggestion. Viriditas (talk) 00:25, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
She also published a new book in 1994 titled Secret Loves that featured interviews with over 100 women from normal backgrounds who were monogamous with two men at the same time.
- It isn't clear what "normal backgrounds" means here, so perhaps you could be more precise? That's all the comments I have and I will complete the review now. Viriditas (talk) 00:25, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
Arbitration case request declined
Hi Silver seren. The Wikipediocracy-related conduct case request has been declined. While the arbitrators were closely divided, there was not an absolute majority to accept the case. For the Arbitration Committee, SilverLocust 💬 06:40, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Did I ask you before if this actress meets Wikipedia standards for notability? FloridaArmy (talk) 23:20, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Not sure if you did, but she seems like a good option. I'll add her to the list! SilverserenC 23:32, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
Your comments
Hello, Silverseren,
I have a great respect for you as an editor and your many years of contributing to this project. But I'm concerned by some comments you are making at Wikipedia:Administrator recall/Fastily. I understand that you are a vocal proponent of this process. As for my own view, I think there should be a recall option but I'm not a fan of the current form of it.
But my point is that it seems like a few people have managed to push your buttons and you are making sweeping generalizations about our administrators. Yes, there are some who object to recall even existing but most admins have chosen not to participate in the process and are leaving it to editors to consider. I myself have only commented in the discussion section and that was general comments on being an admin, not on Fastily. This is only the second administrator recall, most administrators weren't following the discussion of this reform, were surprised when it appeared and they are reacting rather predictably under the assumption that they could be next to be recalled. It's hard to be an active administrator and not make enemies along the way, it's the nature of the job. And the feeling that you could be next to be recalled not a good feeling to have, even if I acknowledge that there has to be a system to remove admins who don't meet our standards for competency and civility. But everyone, editors and admins, is still getting acquainted with the whole recall petition process and it looks like it is going to undergoing even more changes in the near future, too.
I just hope that more longterm editors and admins don't take the bait when reading comments and they try to desescalate the emotional intensity of this experience which exists, not just for Fastily but for others. You have valuable feedback to make but please, let's not take criticisms of the process, which are valid, be taken personally. This recall process is probably the biggest change in our system of administration since I've started editing, even bigger than the admin elections and there are bound to be strong feelings about it. That's all that I wanted to say, thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 08:07, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
