Hi! Rama's Arrow and I are currently working on the mess that is the Sikhism article to get it up to featured article status. Please take a look, and make your comments on the talk page. Thanks very much! Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 13:13, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I'm not saying that this article is in any way a "bad" article, or doesn't deserve to be on Wikipedia. In fact, it's just the opposite- I think the article has a lot of good, interesting information. The problems I noticed includee: 1) The article needs a great deal of copy editing, such as for grammar and removal of a large number of parentheses. Also, 2) the background of the article needs to be explained. It's very unclear to whom, where, and what time period the article is talking about. But otherwise, it's a perfectly fine article.

Best of luck on this article and everything else you do. -- Kicking222 21:05, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: That's all excellent information, and it absolutely provided me with a better background on the article in particular and the Sikhs in general. I think it'd be a great idea if you added that info to the article- it would make it much better for those who does not have the extensive knowledge you do. -- Kicking222 21:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Sat Sri Akal,

Thank you so much for your message, it was really uplifting.

Harrybabbar has no idea that I myself am related to Sikhs as well (my paternal grandmother was Sikh-Rajput as well). I am so glad you will join me in protecting the truth.

Sincerely,

hi

[edit]

hi Sikh Scholar pls do not feel sorry for...feel it for people like yourself who do not have pride alright....and this are the kind of statement your RSS brother gurkhaboys makes to me....... (The Mughal Chronicles all state the Rajputs as Singhs, and according to history the Mughals had defeated the Sikhs. It wasn't until the disintegration of the Mughal empire by other groups that the Sikhs gain prominence with Maharaja Ranjit Singh) agreed that Mughals defeated sikhs lots of time but so did they defeat your favourit Rajputs (many more time then Sikhs) and Married there women alright ........and one more request pls do not refer yourself as Khalsa and insult such a pure word of our community..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Harrybabbar (talkcontribs) 05:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Harry, The point here is that I am no one is a RSS person (you love to make personal attacks I have noticed, perhaps reflects on your age group). I have never denied that Rajputs have had their dark days, but Harry you want to deny the truth and what is reality. You make erroneous claims and deny the history which is front of you just because its not to your liking. There are many things in history I don't like, but I do not deny the truth, if it happened, if this is what it is, then so be it.

Furthermore, you are no one to judge Sikh Scholar just because they do not agree with you.

With regard to your comments on User talk:Harrybabbar: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. [[1]] this looks like a personal attack, and such edits should be avoided. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 06:58, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sikh Scholar,

Please don't let Harrybabbar make you lose your cool. His personal atacks are vicious but it only reflects on his age and upbringing, thus do not let it make you lose your diginity. We cannot let people like this take over Wikipedia and distort the truth. I know you were offended extremely because any true Sikh would have lost their temper (and so your reaction was normal since it was an attack on your your religion and identity), but please keep in mind that Harrybabbar is probably using the tactic of insulting and threatening us with violence because he wants us to react in the most undignified manner. Let him live in his ignorance.

I would first like to apologize for my emotional outburst against the Sikh hating vandal - Harrybabbar. However, it was only after he insulted my Sikh religion, my family honour and my Sikh Gurus teachings in the holy Guru Granth Sahib. I would strongly advise Wikipedia to take much stronger action against vandals who insult people's religions and their personal family honour before situations snowball out of control. Moreover, last point I wish to make is I want no further contact with the Sikh hating vandal - Harrybabbar. I ask Wiki Admins to carefully watch his actions on Wikipedia. I would like to say thanks to all the Wiki editors who have defended me and my character - thank you, you are true friends. Finally, the way that long time expert wiki editors are not protected from verbal abuse by vandals is only going to hurt Wikipedia in the long term, by wiki editors that are experts in their field leaving Wikipedia in large numbers. I am seriously considering this. I am happy for the block to finish in the next couple of days. Thanks.--Sikh scholar (talk) 07:05, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goodbye Wikipedia

[edit]

Thank you for the good times, I've thought long and hard about about this but this is not the place for me. Take care Wikipedia and everyone. Bye--Sikh scholar (talk) 07:57, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Stephen, thank you for informing me - I just lost it under the extreme high abuse statement he throw at me, which is wrong but I am a human being with honour not a emotionless robot. Anyway Stephen, I'm not going to be editing on Wikipedia for the next 2 weeks a least, you can check it if like from my contributions. However, I would appreciate it if as a symbolic goodwill gesture you cut short the block and end it today (already been 24hr block). It won't make any difference to me because I'm not going to editing for a least the next two weeks, it will just make me feel better (in a symbolic way) and that my apology was accepted. If its a big deal or you don't want to that fine as well.--Sikh scholar (talk) 11:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The main reason why I haven't formally retired from Wikipedia (if though I want to) is I don't want to give the abusive vandal the satisfaction that's the main reason. Because life is to short to put up with this type of thing--Sikh scholar (talk) 11:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dear Sikh Scholar, if you leave, I for one, would be extremely disappointed and saddened. We need people like you here, I have had my share of insults thrown at me but I realised that not everyone who comes here to Wikipedia comes here with good intentions and its easy to throw insults over the internet in the comfort of one's own home (I simply restrain myself as much as I can and remind myself that these are cowardly tactics to try and bait me into breaking a rule and then getting me out of the picture). Coming from the same cultural roots, I understand that Harrybabbar totally stepped over the line with his insults (but keep in mind Harrybabbar is enjoying himself from the comfort and security of his home. If we were in Punjab, face to face, he probably would not have replied to you in such a manner), however, I don't want you to let him succeed in annoying you to the point of leaving. Believe me, I felt that way once in the past because I was shocked at how vicious people become in pushing their POVs and agenda without any sense or reason.

Harrybabbar is someone who knows how to get under people's skin, he purposely insults people on a personal level and loves to insult other communities and histories. He is definitely a negative element to Wikipedia. You on the other hand, I have read some of your other works on Wikipedia and your edits. I was extremely impressed, some of your stuff reminded me of my discussions with Dr. Grewal at Punjab University, Dr. King from Berkley and Dr. O'Connell at University of Toronto. Many of your writings on Wikipedia have brought light to many aspects of Sikhism that have been forgotten or purposely pushed aside. I do not want you to leave. You are a true Sikh, a noble Sikh and we need you. Gorkhali (talk) 15:14, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocks are not there to punish, so I have unblocked you for your apology and self imposed editing restriction. There will be admin eyes on the activities of both yourself and Harrybabbar over the next weeks, so please keep a cool head and try not to take things personally, although I understand this is difficult for such emotive subjects. Best wishes. --Stephen 23:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sikh Scholar,

Sat Sri Akal,

I see that Stephen has unblocked you because he as well as everyone else can see that you are honorable and level headed unlike the Harrybabbar who is trying to provoke everyone who disagrees with his POVs and opposes his vandalism. You lapsed and fell into Harrybabbar's trap because he knew how to touch a nerve in our cultural setting, and he did so in a very distasteful manner. Show that you are above these types of provocation and lets bring to wikipedia our combined efforts and knowledge on topics we know and need to share with the online community. I know you have a wealth of knowledge and I only wished we had met in an academic setting to compare notes. I am very much looking forward to your input in the Singh article and also perhaps other articles we can work on in the future (time permitting ofcourse). All the best to you and once again I am very pleased to see you are unblocked.

Also thank you sincerely to Stephen for putting his faith in Sikh Scholar and unblocking him in good faith.

Your friend,

Gorkhali (talk) 03:05, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Stephen, cutting short the block was an excellent good will gesture - Thanks.
  • However Stephen, this is my 2 cents. I like to say that the vandal has already began his negative abusive language again and still nothing has been said to him using his anon account. Gorkhali has been subjected to ethnic and racist harassment which cannot be good for his emotional well-being. Online harrasment is considered a illegal crime. I've done a check on the IP address and its from Bombay India, the Internet service provider is youtele.com [2]. Now this is the last point I shall make about it, IF the vandal continues to harras editors and nothing is done by admins then I shall be forced to fill in a form that informs and report the abuse to youtele.com the harassor's internet service provider. I shall be forced to contact: customercare.mum@youtelecom.com and inform and report the abuse to youtele.com the harassor's internet service provider. Last point - thanks.--Sikh scholar (talk) 19:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can you point me to an edit link that shows the anon account? If he's avoiding a block I can take care of it. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 00:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

[edit]

Just a reminder based on your comments above. In case you were unaware of it Wikipedia has a strict policy of no legal threats. Your comments could be interpreted as that, so I just thought I'd let you know so that you can avoid an unnecessary block. AliveFreeHappy (talk) 00:43, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A new Oxbridge user box

[edit]

Sikh scholar...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 17:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
