Reviewed...
Shalom, Rosguill! My user notice box received a notice that the page Yaniv Iczkovits "was reviewed" by you. However, I didn't see any comments on the Talk page or elsewhere. (This is my first experience in this situation; I generally don't create or translate pages.) So I'd like to understand how to proceed from here. Does "reviewed" mean that you agree with the page as it stands at present, with all the warning templates in place, including the blanking of nonsourced content (rather than a "Citation needed" template) in the initial page evaluation by User:Theroadislong? -- Deborahjay (talk) 19:09, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Deborahjay, I'm pretty sure I reviewed a redirect pointing at that article, Yaniv Itskovich, not the article itself. So, in this case reviewing just means that the redirect is fine as a likely alternative spelling of Iczkovits' name. signed, Rosguill talk 20:11, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- My inattention and wishful thinking here, Rosguill. The page you reviewed was indeed the alternative spelling for which I made a #REDIRECT. Despite my extensive experience with writing European Jewish surnames in numerous languages (being a retired translator for the archives of the Ghetto Fighters' House museum), I'm baffled by "Iczkovits" where the "cz" represents the Hebrew "tsade" and the final "ts" is "tsade-geresh". (Apologies for forgetting my IPA.) The subject is Israeli-born and I don't know his parents' origins - which in today's Israel can be a delicate question, though I'm sure Dr. Iczkovits would understand my curiosity at least on academic grounds. If you have an idea, I'd be glad to hear it. Cheers -- Deborahjay (talk) 21:42, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Deborahjay, the cz digraph used to be used to make a צ sound in Hungarian (there was an orthographic reform that changed it to just use c), and cz makes a similar sound ( /ʈ͡ʂ/) in Polish apparently. My guess is that, given the use of both cz and ts digraphs, the name's origin is probably Polish and was probably pronounced itch-ko-vits, but Hebrew lacks that first consonant so it got simplified to its-ko-vits. signed, Rosguill talk 21:53, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Unsurprising, Rosguill, as Hungarian is notoriously daunting even to avid polyglots and wannabes (as myself). Hungarian-born Holocaust survivors living in Israel (now in their mid-70s and older) likely missed out on schooling, and their children (my age cohort) picked up some of the spoken language if at all. Now that this is on my info radar, I'll watch for similar instances. Thanks again! -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:45, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

I didnt check if the original text was copyvio since I just splitted the article, but apparently the website took the text from Wikipedia and not the otherwise, it has been in the original wiki article way longer then on the website according to wayback archive. Hello Rosguill, would it be possible to block User:LOL x1000000 as soon as possible? They're a sock of the LTA Evlekis. Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 20:19, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

User:Kochas and patrolling
I see you granted the NPR right to this user just yesterday, yet he made some very questionable patrols. See the multiple deletion tag notifications on my talk page. Starzoner (talk) 01:49, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

I had intended to delete without splitting, but this would be the first time I've run into an XfDcloser bug when deleting a page, so far I'd only seen problems with Keep and equivalents. Deleting a redirect
Hi, could you look at deleting one of my redirects, Halime Hatun (fictional character), please as it’s the target page and correct title for Halime Sultan (fictional character)? There is strong consensus for this move. Thank you. IronManCap (talk) 18:35, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

RfD close screwed up template
Hey, just letting you know that your RfD close for some reason screwed up the code of {{R from alternative punctuation}} by breaking the redirect. I think I've fixed it to what you intended to do. Elliot321 (talk | contribs) 03:55, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Elliot321, XfDcloser has been behaving a bit erratically lately. I thought I followed up on all the closes I did but I guess I missed this one. Thanks for cleaning up. signed, Rosguill talk 04:01, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- It's not just the code that was wrong. It's the fact that it was changed at all. The RfD was about two redirects, and the result was to retarget just the other one. This mistake has had a devastating effect on Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked misspellings, which yesterday, prior to this error, had 23 entries, and today was truncated at its maximum size of 1000, which only brought it up to the early "E" entries. NPR requests for permissions
Hi, Rosguill. A few days ago, AppleBsTime and I applied at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/New page reviewer for NPR permissions. If you have the time, I was hoping you could look at our requests and the more recent one from DeltaSquad833 to clear out the backlog. I'm not sure how often these requests are reviewed, but you're the only admin I know who specializes in NPP, so I came to you. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 17:36, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- TheTechnician27, I'll try to take a look soon. The last weeks have been a bit busy, and I try to avoid hogging the spotlight at the perm request page even during lighter times, but I try to keep the backlog there around a week or so at most. signed, Rosguill talk 17:47, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Putting my hat in the charity bin
Hey, Rosguill, would you mind taking my NPP rights back? I was enthusiastic about it at first, but ultimately I don't think it's something I'm cut out for/can balance well with my other on-wiki duties, and I'd rather give up that user right than have it sit around looking to all the world like hat collecting. Also, I was in part doing it to learn the ropes for CSD/PROD, but I quit AfD a few days ago, so I can't really see the point. Vaticidalprophet (talk) 06:47, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Vaticidalprophet, I'm sorry that you feel it's not working out. Given that your current permissions are temporary and set to expire in a few weeks, I think it would probably be better to just let them peter out on their own come mid-March. signed, Rosguill talk 17:13, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- That's reasonable, I just don't want the hat-collecting look. I may try it again at some future point if opportunities work out; I don't hope to be gone from AfD forever (it's a mental health break due to an interaction with a specific person I feel unsafe around), and I did enjoy some of the process, but I overall found the workload more intense than I'd expected and I think all those factors combined poorly. Vaticidalprophet (talk) 21:13, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Vaticidalprophet, I totally understand, and I don't think anyone is going to accuse you of hat collecting. NPP can be overwhelming when you're first getting started, so let me know if you ever want to give it another go. signed, Rosguill talk 21:22, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Rosguill. Thanks for reviewing my submission. I am happy to see your advice on notability and I am learning daily. If it's ok with you then I like to apply for a month of NPR permissions. 2021 Liga 1
Hi there. Why do you change the redirect in 2021 Liga 1 from Liga 1 (Indonesia) to a Dab page Liga 1? Wira rhea (talk) 21:27, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wira rhea, because someone searching for 2021 Liga 1 may be looking for any of the leagues at Liga 1, not necessarily the Indonesian one. signed, Rosguill talk 22:15, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Rosguill, because all previous season of Liga 1 (Indonesia) were named like that (2020 Liga 1 for example) so maybe people here already knew that, like Liga I (Romanian league) always two years-based (2020–21) and Peruvian Primera División using 2021 Liga 1 (Peru). Or should I renamed all of them, for instance 2020 Liga 1 (Indonesia) instead? Wira rhea (talk) 22:47, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wira rhea, it doesn't seem like any of the leagues are a clear primary topic for Liga 1, so using YYYY Liga 1 (Indonesia) for the season titles is probably the clearest solution. signed, Rosguill talk 23:01, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi again
Hey, Rosguill. I've mostly been sticking to video game-related subjects in the new page review, and I think it's been working out well. I always enjoy giving articles like Video Checkers and Math Gran Prix a few touches when they hit the new page review list and then sending them on their way or fundamentally overhauling high-profile articles like Aliens: Fireteam. It's really a joy.
With that out of the way, there's a, uh... backlog of articles by one fairly new user. They're all about otome games, all of which are published by D3 Publisher. And you might say, "Oh, sounds like a COI, right?" Having checked their editing history, I earnestly don't think that's the case. I think they're just very passionate, which is why I came to a more experienced editor about this. The articles in question are:
- Saikin Koi Shiteru?
- Suto*Mani: Strobe*Mania
- Mermaid Prism
- Little Anchor
- My Secret Pets!
- Office Lovers
- Forbidden Romance
- Last Escort
- Vitamin (video game series)
- Reijou Tantei Office no Jikenbo
- Ore no Shita de Agake
- Kurayami no Hate de Kimi wo Matsu
- Hoshizora no Comic Garden
- Signal (video game)
- Roland (Japanese host) (not otome or D3, but fits the same mold; the lead section literally had (removed for unsourced BLP) "His blood type is AB.")
For some of these like Mermaid Prism, they seem like a fairly obvious case of AfD for notability (I'd say PRODed, but I get the feeling it'd be opposed by the article's creator), but for others like Vitamin (video game series) and Last Escort (this one was previously deleted, but no AfD discussion), I have literally no idea how I would even approach them short of removing the GameFAQs links – this is made even worse because I don't speak Japanese and therefore can't reasonably perform WP:BEFORE for articles I think should be nominated. I don't even know what I would ask the creator of these articles to do to remedy this if I were to reach out to them, and while I'd feel bad tearing down hours upon hours of passioante work, I really don't even feel like I could determine what work needs to be torn down in the first place without a working knowledge of Japanese. I just know these articles can't be left sitting in review limbo (as every single one of their articles currently is), and they're clearly unfit for the mainspace in their current state – even if some of them technically make it through the NPR flowchart. Moreover, even the hours upon hours it would take to get through all of these wouldn't even fix the problem, because their creator is uploading multiple of these per day at this point.
I hate to use the word WP:FANCRUFT, but TL;DR: WP:FANCRUFT. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 22:41, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- TheTechnician27, without having gone through most of the links, you may want to try to reach out to them to talk a bit about how notability works, see if you can get them to understand the problem (and potentially commit to fixing whichever ones can be improved). Part of the problem with covering otaku topics on Wikipedia is that not only is there very little English coverage, even the Japanese coverage tends to be very low quality non-independent and gossip sources, but these are often considered authoritative by the fan base. I usually take a relatively lenient approach in light of the above. signed, Rosguill talk 23:03, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

- Hello, I am the creator of these articles and not a fan of the games (or affiliated with the publisher). I saw the list of red links and researched them, creating base articles I figured I/others could improve upon. I was careful to use legitimate sources like Famitsu and Dengeki Online and avoided fan blogs. While I agree that many of the games are not overly notable, I do not think deletion is the answer - someone may very well be interested in this data, so perhaps a consolidation into one article like "List of D3 Publisher Otome Games" with the data stored in a table for the less covered titles would suffice? At any rate, I think I can manage at least the level of content on that math game article for many of them if I go back through the sources. I'm not sure why listing a subject's blood type (as is standard introduction material in Japan) is a problem, it had been translated as-is from the Japanese wiki article and is now sourced.Londonbeat41692 (talk) 04:20, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Was curious, what brought this onto your radar? I agree it's most likely COI, perhaps even UPE (maybe by some folks who work for her), but it's been around 5 years. I'd draftify it, but there's definitely enough coverage out there to pass WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 12:34, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

- Hi Rosguill. I was going to post something about this as well after seeing Special:diff/Dwilliamphilip83/1012706667 and then finding Talk:Wonder Woman 1984#User Masem deleting in bad faith. It doesn't seem that this editor has learned anything from their block and has decided that continuing with WP:USTHEM and WP:BATTLEGROUND is a better course of action than continuing discussion at Talk:Wonder Woman 1984#Who keeps deleting my edits??. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:53, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- Just for reference, I removed the disputed content and left a note about this on the editor's user talk page (right below the block notice you left). Hopefully, they will now decide to use the article talk page to resolve this. If they revert again, I won't re-revert; however, I think their doing such a thing would be a clear indication that they're unwilling to WP:LISTEN and are going to continue to try and WP:WIN. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:29, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

I've left another post explaining some things on their user talk page, but the proverbially ball truly is now really in their own court and what they decide to do next will probably indicate whether they want to be WP:HERE or whether they continue to want to try and WP:WIN. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:25, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- After Masem pointed out that his edits appeared, at least in part, to be self promotional, I'm not as confident they're here to improve the encyclopedia. Two weeks should be enough time for them to get the hint, but if they resume again I'd suspect they're WP:NOTHERE. —Locke Cole • t • c 00:40, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- They've now been fully blocked for a week by Drmies. The best that anyone can do is try to follow WP:BITE and explain things as politely as we can, but at some point the other editor needs to make an effort to (at least pretend) to WP:LISTEN. Three administrators (Masem, Rosguill and Drmies) are now probably watching to see what this person does next and also watching the article to make sure there's no further disruption; so, there's probably not much more that can be done here other than to leave it up to them to deal with if it starts up again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:25, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Long NPP rights wait
Hi Rosguill,
I don't mean to be a bother, but I recently reapplied for NPP permissions and at this point it has been at least a week. This also happened when I requested them for the first time around. I assumed that you or someone else were checking my contributions, but the weeklong turnaround seems excessive, and makes me feel weird seeing that others who posted after me have been approved or rejected. Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 18:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Etzedek24, sorry for the wait. I can explain my decision to skip over you earlier, which is that I usually avoid reviewing the re-application of editors whose trial runs I granted. If no one has reviewed your request by the end of the week I'll take care of it. signed, Rosguill talk 18:31, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

I saw you noted a couple articles with potentially unreliable sources but I might have only been watching one. Could you specify the others, by chance? I'm also grateful for any other feedback you might be willing to offer to become a more efficient patroller. Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 23:38, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Etzedek24, the ones I'm thinking of are Mahmud Shakir and Jordan Fein, the latter of which I've nominated for AfD. Those and quite a few other BLPs you reviewed had pretty clear signs of COI (sometimes declared), although for three or four of them I dug through the pile of sources and did eventually find enough to meet WP:GNG, so in the end you made the right call most of the time. If you're aware of the warning signs and also dug through the sources on articles like Michael Kagan (artist) and Matt Amato before deciding to accept them, then I think you're doing fine. signed, Rosguill talk 23:45, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Points well-taken. I know at least on a couple of them, I was working off of my understanding of some content-related SNGs (with Fein and Kagan at least), but maybe I need to review those SNGs more closely. I appreciate the feedback.
- Etzedek24, For Fein, the article puffed up some accomplishments that I think themselves fall short of meeting notability and thus don't contribute toward meeting the SNG. For Kagan, IIRC I think I came to the conclusion that he does meet the SNG, but figuring out whether a given exhibition or gallery should contribute to the guideline is quite difficult and this article was on the borderline.signed, Rosguill talk 00:04, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

- Hi again Rosguill (I'm using this instead of making a new thread), and thanks for extending the NPP right.
You blew my mind with that AfD
I have never swung so hard between being sure someone was notable, and being sure someone was actually two someones, to having no idea at all if Jordan Fein is just a cat in a box that isn't being observed and I will never know if he's a film director or a theater director or both. Some sources seem to refer to him as the same person, but the two websites which feature pictures of someone who could easily be the same person, show completely separated fields of art. I just wanted you to know that you managed to confuse and bewilder me without even having to address me in particular. Have a great day! ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:15, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- ScottishFinnishRadish, yeah, I had to think about it for a good long while too, but the theater accomplishments of the other Jordan Fein were simply too significant for it to make sense that they weren't included in the existing article revision. There's an essay about cases like this, WP:FRANKENSTEIN. signed, Rosguill talk 15:24, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's a good essay. I think this example is probably a bit beyond most of the examples there, however. They both look the same, around the same age, attended the same school and work in fields that generally have overlap anyway. Also with the bard.edu page combining the two of them it threw me for a loop. I was going to keep looking at AfDs, but I think that did me in for the day. FYI about an editor adding unsourced info, with no edit summary
Hi - I saw that you just blocked Ageringpoker, and thought I'd run this by you as well. A relatively new editor (January 2021) has been adding info without sourcing or edit summaries. He's been asked politely multiple times, including by me. I had to go and clean up some of his damage. I added this comment to his (her?) talk page User_talk:Guillermo_Alonso_Martínez_Espinoza#Adding_unsourced_info_without_edit_summaries. You can see others have also asked him to not add unsourced info, and many of his contributions have been reverted. The only response I've seen from him was a flippant reply to another editor (Dormskirk), who just cleaned up subsequent sloppy edits [[2]]. At least he used a source this time, but still no edit summary. This reminds me of the Yoodaba sock farm where the editors made edits to articles in a single industry, probably to create a history of being involved in that space. Or you can look at the acronym of his name (GAME) and assume WP:NOTHERE. Perhaps you might have more luck getting a response with a 24 hour block. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:27, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Timtempleton, I've gone ahead and blocked them, they made additional unsourced changes at another article since your warning. signed, Rosguill talk 01:48, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hi - he's at it again. I think he's trying to insert links to macrotrends.com as financial refs to promote the site. He's sloppily introducing template errors that he has to fix, and isn't leaving edit summaries. I asked him again on his talk page to leave edit summaries and he never responded. WP:RADAR and WP:NOTHERE TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:26, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Timtempleton, at this point I think you should open an ANI or COIN discussion to investigate the macrotrends spam. signed, Rosguill talk 20:07, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's what I'll do then. Cheers. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:44, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Kurayami no Hate de Kimi wo Matsu
Hello! I am curious as to why you felt this article did not meet criteria. The citations included two professional reviews as well as a news article confirming a sales record - is that not enough to establish notability? I understand that other editors who cannot read Japanese were accusing me of using fan blogs (and others claimed that the professional magazine B's Log, which is run by Kadokawa with an editorial department easily accessible from the bottom of the main page lacked editoral oversight), but that is not the case. Londonbeat41692 (talk) 01:12, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- Londonbeat41692, I reviewed the redirect, not the article. My assessment that the redirect is valid is no comment on the decision to remove the article, as I have not reviewed it. You should take this up with Onel5969. signed, Rosguill talk 01:15, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Autopatrolled permissions
Hi. Don't misunderstand me. You changed my autopatrolled rights by citing that too many deleted articles recently. But actually I saw only three articles have been deleted recently. Earlier some of my cricket centurion articles and 5-wicket haul articles were deleted. Out of my 4,295 articles, only 168 articles have been deleted. Also, I have created many notable articles in zoology, botany, cricket and cinema. So, I am bit confused about your revert. Thank You. Have a nice day. Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 21:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- Gihan Jayaweera, autopatrol is reserved for editors whose new article contributions are near flawless. Even a low deletion rate can be disqualifying for that permission. Moreover, even articles that don't end up deleted may benefit from further review if there are sourcing or neutrality issues. signed, Rosguill talk 17:17, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Orthodox Christians
When you retargetted Orthodox Christians to the DAB page Orthodox, you may have overlooked WP:FIXDABLINKS. The change broke over 1,800 links, which will have to be fixed by hand. You might like to invite the retarget !voters in the RFD to help. Narky Blert (talk) 09:40, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- Narky Blert, thanks for the note, pinging participants in that RfD Daranios, Veverve, Omnipaedista, CycloneYoris. I'll put some work into this myself as well later today. signed, Rosguill talk 16:50, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Narky Blert: I tried to fix a link using the tool you linked, and it told me: "A problem occurred in a Python script. Here is the sequence of function calls leading up to the error, in the order they occurred." Veverve (talk) 17:52, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- Veverve, yeah, the script isn't working for doing the fixes, I've been using it to just list the pages that need edits. Most of the way through the A's now and will be working on this for at least another hour, so if you want to work on it now I would recommend starting from the bottom of the alphabet. signed, Rosguill talk 17:53, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- just noting that I'm taking a break for now, made it down to the L's on the list. signed, Rosguill talk 19:06, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Veverve: The DPwL link is working ok for me. Just pick off the low-hanging-fruit - entries which haven't been struck through. DPwL refreshes every 12 hours.
- This was a change which definitely needed to be made. Unlike some moves/redirects, it's unlikely to throw up many real horrors; but still. If you're not immediately sure about a link, just leave it. In big changes like these (I remember vinyl, which IIRC broke over 3,000 links), every bit of effort helps. Narky Blert (talk) 20:13, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, you really have been busy solving this! Thanks for pinging me, I've done a few, but thumbs up for all your work! Daranios (talk) 07:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

- Looks like the article needs extended protected like you did last time. The user (non EC) wouldn't stop from adding unsourced content and mentioning unreliable sources in the edit summaries [6]. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:25, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
NPP
Hi. I hope all is well with you. I think I need to take a break from NPP. Whilst the majority of article creators take tagging their articles well, I'm finding it more and more difficult to be civil and objective when replying to those who take it as if it was a personal insult. Last night I got told how I should be doing things by a recently created patroller at Talk:Allan Day, after writing a long reply that would probably have warranted a block, I checked myself and deleted it before pressing publish. Hopefully a short break will enable me to "refresh the batteries" and cope with the more difficult aspects a little better. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 16:29, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- John B123, I'm sorry to hear that, but it seems like a reasonable decision on your part. Hope you feel up to jumping back into the queue soon enough. signed, Rosguill talk 16:33, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
