Jan Działyński (Polish noble, born 1590)

Hi can you rever the move? There is an ongoing discussion on the Talk:Stanisław Potocki (1659-1683) and it seems there is consensus that using "Polish noble" as disambiguator doesn't really make much sense. Marcelus (talk) 06:48, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

@Marcelus ok. I will be reverting this, and probably make sense to merge the RM together since they are about the same thing. – robertsky (talk) 10:19, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from RainyLakeGirl on Robert A. Good (05:12, 8 September 2024)

Hello, Please tell me how I can add information and cite an article as verification? The bio of Dr.A. Good omits the fact that he was also married to Joanne Finstad. Below is the article I wish to reference as evidence for this. https://www.nytimes.com/1972/04/01/archives/minnesota-professor-is-named-president-by-sloankettering.html She too, was instumental in the budding field of immunology. She and Dr. Good worked together, authored published papers together, etc.

Thank you. --RainyLakeGirl (talk) 05:12, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

@RainyLakeGirl please see WP:REFBEGIN for instructions. Apologies for not being more verbose here right now as I am on the move. – robertsky (talk) 06:01, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from StephenCharlesLow (14:04, 8 September 2024)

Hi I have a photo that I took myself and attempt to upload it to include in a paragraph I'm editing. But each time the upload is refused. Any advice. --StephenCharlesLow (talk) 14:04, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

@StephenCharlesLow You will have to upload those photos at Commons and then include the images from there. See Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons. Note that not all of the images should be uploaded, certainly not the booklet as it has copyright implications. – robertsky (talk) 16:19, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 16:23, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Avemalakoff (13:15, 5 October 2024)

Hello: Thanks for your help. There is a new book on the mystery about the Man in the Iron Mask written by me, Sarah Madry, M.Ed. On the Wikipedia page on this topic there is a list of books about this topic. I would like to have my book listed on the list. Since the editors investigate, quite normally and appropriately, the level of accuracy and seriousness of authors and material that appear on Wikipedia (I depend upon you to do that as a regular user of Wikipedia - thank you), I wrote to another editor who responded to me about adding my book to the list about the depth of my research and the new paths covered on the subject. I think that was interpreted as a promotion of my book that I intended to put on the Wikipedia page. I don't want to promote my book, unless putting the book on the list of other books, is promotion. I wanted to show the editor that my book is a serious work that offers dependable new material. I am sorry if that was the wrong thing to do. I have never done this before and I didn't know I was not supposed to do this. I apologize. I hope Wikipedia will be able to list my book as a book on this topic. ANI vs WP

I really like the heading "The court reads", thanks for the chuckle. As another court in India noted at one point,[33] WP is not a reliable source and legal stuff should not be based on it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:46, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

ANI vs WMF

Your Signpost article made me wonder why we didn't have Asian News International vs. Wikimedia Foundation. Now we do. I love it when that happens, so thanks! Valereee (talk) 18:19, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

@Valereee, personally I prefer to have WMF-related legal cases (even though it is uncommon compared to the other legal cases that are written here) only to be written in the mainspace after the case is over for various reasons. One of the many reasons is its potential to influence ongoing cases, like so; potentially shutting off/opening up possible legal strategies that trial lawyers (on both sides, and now the judiciary as a whole apparently?) can apply and whatever extra scrutiny it may place on our fellow editors living the country. But hey... what's done is done. – robertsky (talk) 10:09, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Nonetheless, thanks for the article since it now presents a timeline. – robertsky (talk) 10:48, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
I guess I feel like not writing it until the case is settled is self-censoring. There's a huge amount of coverage, and I tried to follow it very carefully. And it's a not-unimportant case. And being not in India, I'm safe from being directly threatened personally even if my personal details were released.
Would be kind of a bummer if I got invited to an Indian wedding, although I'd have an incredibly interesting decline reason: "Sorry, I've got an open warrant there". Which almost would make it worth missing even a fabulous Indian wedding. Valereee (talk) 15:51, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
@Valereee I get where you are coming from. Let's hope that this does not blow up further. – robertsky (talk) 08:44, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

zhwiki mandated to use SecurePoll?

Regarding this comment of yours at WT:RFA: Is there a place I can read more about this? For instance, a WMF thing outlining its perspective? If not, would you mind giving me a brief explanation? You have piqued my curiosity :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 06:10, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

there is a link somewhere. Will pull it out later. Tldr: back when WMF got wind of CUs on zhwiki misusing the right to breach the privacy of editors and coupled with undesired behaviours from the pro-China faction, they yanked the perm there and set conditions to fulfill before returning the perms. One of them was to use SecurePoll for CU elections. One thing led to another, RFA there also uses SecurePoll. – robertsky (talk) 08:06, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
@HouseBlaster: you will have to use Google Translate for most of the following two links, however, most of the admin terms do not translate well. zhwiki RfC to use SecurePoll for admin elections (which vote was conducted on SecurePoll as well), zhwiki RfA talk archive 8. The talk archive contains a series of activities which solidified the current voting practices on zhwiki, starting from the mandate for the usage of SecurePoll for CU appointments, and further discussions on the earlier linked RfC and modifications to the rules on the RfA page. – robertsky (talk) 09:10, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Important: Please update user script installation

Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Thanks – Anne drew
