OCC and panel sales

LOL, OCC just removed my comment that the first week sales for Oasis:Be Here Now included panel sales from the bottom of their news article on 25. The whole article reads like an apology to Adele fans for the fact that they've chosen to go for a previously abandoned sales figure, but 'it's OK 'cos there's lots of other records out there to break!' I reworded and put the comment back, let's see if they'll leave it this time. Btljs (talk) 19:11, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

@Btljs: Did they keep your comment in the end? Richard3120 (talk) 19:01, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Last time I looked. The really funny thing is, the article in Music Business Worldwide was changed after I (and probably many others) quoted it, from saying that it was panel sales to: "However, Official Charts Company data experts have now told MBW that ‘panel sales’ were not part of Be Here Now’s sales, as the practice had died out by the time the LP arrived in August 1997." Don't know what info you have from that era? Not quite sure how they got a figure of 763,000 and a figure of 813,000 for the same 7 days. Then today, they announced that 25 has sold a million and that BHN didn't (as previously stated) do this in 11 days but rather 17! I mean, it is ALL these people do, you'd think they could be a bit more careful. Btljs (talk) 23:12, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Lord knows. I'll be in London in January, I may have a look in the Music Week archives for 1997 and see what they said back then. Richard3120 (talk) 00:47, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
Actually I just had a good laugh looking at the OCC's list of top Christmas songs – Alexandra Burke's version of "Hallelujah" at no. 5, well I never realised that it was a "Christmas" song... I can just imagine Leonard Cohen when he was writing it, thinking about how everybody would sing along to it as they wolfed down their mince pies... Richard3120 (talk) 03:02, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
and that famous lyric: "all I ever learned from Xmas was how to look grateful for someone who gave you socks". From the 'Now Leonard Cohen sings Christmas' compilation. His duet with Cat Stevens on 'O Come All Ye Faithful' is classic. Btljs (talk) 09:41, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks Richard3120 for understanding. I still can't fully get my head around Wikipedia's policies yet so I'm still learning the ropes. I did think that I was confronted by a rather rude user about the matter though.

Colombian film

Hi Richard, I've come across a book by McKee Irwin and Castro Ricalde that has a chapter on the early history of Colombian cinema, with lots of names of films, cast and crew. If I were to create some articles and stubs, would you be able to come up with supporting material from libraries, etc near you for expansion of the same? I've already done one for Alla en el trapiche as an example.

Thanks! --Peripatetic (talk) 10:49, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Using "Trucking" as a source for music reviews

I was informed that you had previously discussed the use of Trucking as a source for music reviews, and I found your thread about it on WikiProject Albums, and it seemed from that discussion that the matter wasn't really resolved. The same issue has come up with the new album Alone in the Universe from Jeff Lynne's ELO, and I wondered if you would be interested in weighing in again with your views? -- Scjessey (talk) 16:14, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Happy Holidays!

Stone Roses

Please feel free to add those yourself. I have so little time these days, I'm really not editing much as it is :( Dan56 (talk) 23:50, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Will do – apologies for cluttering up your talk page, I've copied them to my sandbox so feel free to delete them from your page if you wish. I'll also add the reviews to the Maxinquaye article as well – feel free to alter anything after I've done so. I know what you mean about lack of time: I live abroad so only get a few days each year to research in the British Library, so I can never look up as much as I would like to. All the best. Underworld

It's fine, I understand, it's just that I thought at the time "they're not going to like this, I must change it" but I can understand it now, I won't change anything again. However, to me, the band and virtually every other Underworld fan besides myself, dubnobasswithmyheadman is their debut album and can't be regarded as otherwise as they really are two completely separate bands. Depending on whether you really do like them or are just saying that to calm me down you will or will not also feel this way. I can easily find another source besides their website stating that the album was their debut and the other band just happened to have the same name (it wasn't the "second version", there has always been only one Underworld, if you know what I mean) Anyway have a nice evening! (could you reply when you get this so I know you've seen it?) :) Underworldfan97 (talk) 16:12, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

@Underworldfan97: I know, I view it as their debut too! ;-) But what you, I or the band "think" is irrelevant, the fact is that it is their third album (albeit with a different line-up) and Wikipedia isn't about what anybody thinks, it's about facts. Any discography book, such as Martin C. Strong's, would not have two separate entries for the two versions for the band. You yourself have just said there has only been one Underworld – therefore logically the first two albums must also be by the same band and dubnobasswithmyheadman must be the third. It isn't Wikipedia's job to appease artists by removing facts that they may not agree with. And believe me, it's one of my top five favourite albums of the 1990s, but as a Wikipedia editor I have to be objective and not let my opinions affect my editing. Thank you and have a good evening yourself. Richard3120 (talk) 16:22, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

I know, it's fine :-) When I said about there only being one Underworld, I meant in the same way Hyde and Smith mean it, that it is like the original band named Underworld and the two albums by them never existed in the first place. The truth is, the band had a very messy start, as any fan will tell you. Anyway have a good day :-) P.s. Do you know how I could delete my account? Because I only created it to change the articles to the way Karl and Rick view their albums and work.

See Wikipedia:FAQ#How do I change my username/delete my account?. Richard3120 (talk) 16:53, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

BPI Awards

Oh look - BPI have quietly added back-dated certifications for old albums! Suddenly Queen Greatest Hits is 20X Platinum and Bridge Over Troubled Water 10X. I wonder if they have started at the top and are working their way down because it feels very selective at the moment: I can't honestly believe that Sgt Pepper sold 17X Platinum and no other Beatles album sold more than 2X (apart from "1"). Btljs (talk) 08:09, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Btljs - been off Wiki for a couple of months due to work, moving house, etc. That's very interesting, and I agree, entirely selective – sounds like they wanted to update the top 20 or top 40 best-sellers of all-time for some reason (new updated list coming out?). I'd be surprised if any of the Beatles' studio albums has sold less than 1 million in the UK... I mean, they were number one for 51 out of 52 weeks from May 1963 to April 1964, they surely weren't going to do that on just 600,000 combined sales in an entire calendar year at the height of Beatlemania. Richard3120 (talk) 18:06, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
The 20X for QGH means they're sticking with the formula of 50% and 33% of sales of the box sets. Btljs (talk) 19:53, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
Always struck me as cooking the books, adding the sales of the box sets as well. Makes the sales of Abba Gold: Greatest Hits look more impressive because sales have been as a standalone album only. Richard3120 (talk) 21:21, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello

I completely disagree that you think that "Love Me Like You" shouldn't have passed because you think some sources are "reliable". Can I ask if you edit music articles? Because sources such as MTV, Fuse, Digital Spy, Billboard, Idolator, Official Charts Company amongst many others in the article are some of the most reliable you can get, and the most used in music articles.  — Calvin999 22:12, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Hello Calvin999, I do indeed edit music articles. Perhaps I was a little over the top in my blanket condemnation for which I apologise – most of the sources you quote are not the ones I have concerns about, apart from perhaps Idolator, which is a blog and I don't know how official the writers are... it was more the likes of Hollywood Life and the review from Press Play OK which concerned me. Richard3120 (talk) 22:23, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay that's fine. I thought you meant article wide. Newspapers are fine because I'm not quoting political, social, financial info etc. I'm just using them for their music reviews or reporting on live performances (which are 100% fact, as you can't make up if a singer or group performed at an event).  — Calvin999 22:26, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
@Calvin999:Yeah, you've obviously seen my polite query on MaranoFan's talk page as to why the Daily Mail isn't a reliable source in his opinion - I'm not going to get involved in that argument. If you look at the edit history of various Little Mix articles you'll see I've been quite active, but mostly in reverting unsourced sales figures and other content by annoying IPs - I think that's something you would agree with me on, so I think we're actually on the same page here. I tend to try and improve music articles from the past rather than current artists (see the list on my user page) because the likes of you and IndianBio are doing fine work on the pop music articles, no need for me to get involved there. :-) Richard3120 (talk) 22:51, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay cool. Thank you. And yeah I would't bother wasting your time in that argument!  — Calvin999 08:19, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Maxinquaye//PublicEnemy

You cannot tell by reading a link that it's a cover, it looks like it links to a Tricky single page. It's useful and interesting information to let people know. Johnny "ThunderPeel2001" Walker (talk) 16:22, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

But it already has the information that it's a cover in the text, under the 'Music and themes' section. The problem is if you start putting "xxxx cover version" in track listings, that's an awful lot of album articles that would need changing. Richard3120 (talk) 16:40, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Portuguese peaks

Hello. If acharts use Portugal chart from Euro 200 I think it is airplay list. Portuguesecharts.com started providing chart this year. Eurohunter (talk) 12:12, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

@Eurohunter: exactly – the Portuguese charts from acharts are not official and therefore shouldn't be used. The charts on portuguesecharts.com are copies of the official ones compiled by AC Nielsen and are for digital singles sales only, but they only started in January this year. I don't think there are any official Portuguese charts from March 2004 to December 2015. Richard3120 (talk) 17:51, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi fellow rolo import...

Hey Richard, I see you like hiking and live in Bogotá. Have you been to Chingaza and the other parks? Suesca? I have been to San Gil, not to the others yet. Will work on those a bit on the side of the Muisca project and the goal is to get the Muisca people at least up to a GA using the template of the great civilizations of the Americas. Lot to do still, but I just started. Also want to fill the municipalities of the Muisca territory with infobox info and some short chapters. Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 20:32, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Ha ha, well my mother's side of the family are from Pasto, I lived in Pereira for 18 months when I first moved to Colombia, and now I'm in Bogota... not sure whether that makes me a pastuso, a paisa or a rolo. :-) I would love to visit Chingaza and the rest – my dream is to do a week-long hike around Los Nevados or El Cocuy. Sadly my girlfriend considers walking up Monserrate to be the equivalent of running a marathon, so I'm still waiting. With the current weather in Bogota I'm not exactly desperate to be outside, hence a lot of time spent on Wikipedia in the last couple of weeks...
You're right, there's always lots to do, but I thought if I could do some admin, clear away the clutter, and then we might have a better idea of what areas to focus on for Colombian articles. Richard3120 (talk) 20:51, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
A good mix of Colombian cultures then. You have similar dreams, I may do that in the second half of the year, not sure yet. My girlfriend is also not too fond of hiking. And you're right, same here, not much motive to go outside either. It's time for Cuchavira to return...
Please, great work. It seems not much people are working on the Colombia articles at the moment although I am not following all the edits.Tisquesusa (talk) 22:16, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

RE: Template:Football stadiums in Colombia

Well, according to Help:A quick guide to templates, a template is "a Wikipedia page created to be included in other pages and usually contain repetitive material that might need to show up on any number of articles or pages". My purpose with this template is to avoid the repetition of code on the articles List of association football stadiums by country, List of football stadiums in Colombia and List of stadiums in South America, as well as to avoid leaving outdated data in any of them. --Brayan Jaimes (talk) 23:08, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

No, it is not my intention to replace the Template:Categoría Primera A venues with this. And this is not that kind of template, those are WP:NAV. This template is more like Template:Categoría Primera A teams table, these are templates used to handle the same information in more than one article. --Brayan Jaimes (talk) 01:30, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Well, I'm not a pro in Wikipedia and any advice or suggestion you want to give me is greatly appreciated. Best regards,--Brayan Jaimes (talk) 02:55, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
You have not understood the purpose of this template I made. This template is used in these articles:
This won't be used in any of the articles of the stadiums it names, because the purpose of the template is to keep updated the list of stadiums in Colombia and with it the three articles I mentioned will have the information updated. --Brayan Jaimes (talk) 21:05, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
You have, for example, the Template:2014 FIFA World Cup Group A table. It doesn't contain a list like the article we are discussing, but it has the same function: "collect information, which is used in several articles, in one location". --Brayan Jaimes (talk) 21:07, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Ah, got it – so it IS being used on other articles. Yes, that makes sense now – thanks for explaining. Richard3120 (talk) 02:00, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello. It would be possible to check this article? I would like to made him best as it is possible. Eurohunter (talk) 20:48, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I've had a quick look – first, there are FAR too many references breaking up the flow of the text... in a biographical article like this, you shouldn't have a reference after every phrase. You should take out all the references to social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube because on Wikipedia it is recommended to avoid self-published sources (WP:SELFPUB), and also Discogs is not considered a reliable source because the data is generated by users, and is therefore not always 100% accurate. I know you need references for the release dates of the albums, but they should come from another source, not Discogs. I also think there are too many references to charts, which should really be more important in the Basshunter discography article. If you remove all those references it might be easier to read and then we can see what needs changing. Richard3120 (talk) 00:17, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
There are different informations from different sources so it isn't possible to cut unecessary references because all of them are needed to proof of sources. I wanted to avoid social mdia references but in fact it is nonsesnse. It is just like use official site. Some references there are interviews so it is part of greater things. There are labels and publisher social media. It is important also to use official social media accounts so there are official accounts only. There are also simple things like year of born his brother, production credits etc. Very simple, so I can't belive it can be problematic. You said also it isn't good to use Discogs, so can I use shops like iTunes? Eurohunter (talk) 07:17, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
But there is too much detail, a lot of the information you have supplied is not important at all – you don't need to mention the chart positions, sales, certifications for every single, just highlight the significant ones, like "Boten Anna" and "Now You're Gone"... for example, for "Boten Anna" all you need to say is "the single reached number one in Sweden and Denmark, and was a top ten hit across other European countries". Also there is no point in a sentence like "Basshunter use social media like: Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Twitter, SoundCloud, VK or YouTube to communicating with fans, sharing and publishing his music and videos"... it isn't important at all, every other music artist uses social media, so there is nothing special about it. The source for his brother is fine, but it isn't important what year his brother was born, it is not relevant to Basshunter and his career. Honestly, I expect that another editor will edit the article considerably.
The problem with using social media, even if it is official, is that it can be biased: it is better to find an impartial source. For now we can use iTunes for release dates, but I would prefer to find the information in Music Week or other sources... I will try and look up release dates when I am in the UK next month. Richard3120 (talk) 17:32, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
What can be biased in things like production credits? I know there can be biased things generally but no this situation. I made mistake. Source for Facebook is for brother name. Every release it is the first release date so it is hard to found these sources in sites like Music Week or AllMusic. I seen some errors in iTunes because they showing dates which are not possible. I can try with Web Archive. I think it is important to tell about downloads and just some words for story of it because it made him popular. I think I skipped already a lot of details. I skipped a lot of charts positions so I don't know how it can be more. Eurohunter (talk) 18:42, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
I don't mean production credits – I mean things like sales figures and biographical details, which you have taken from his record label's website (Extensive Music), so they will be biased because they are trying to promote their artist. Honestly, my personal opinion is that there is far too much detail, and not all of it is important. But you can always ask at Wikipedia:Peer review for other people to read the article and give their opinions. Richard3120 (talk) 20:06, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
That right but it is only once source for summary sales. May should I add thing like "label appear/label published"? Eurohunter (talk) 20:14, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
It would have to be something like "according to figures from his record label, Basshunter has sold six million records worldwide". Richard3120 (talk) 20:20, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
I changed the sentence. Eurohunter (talk) 19:24, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Request for help

Hi Richard, watching the match I guess? Goes well! I want to ask for your support. I wrote a nice article about Carl Henrik Langebaek and some stupid autistic troll comes in and puts a tag on it that it would need "more references". The article is referenced on every side with 7 independent references and this user gives no specifics, just reverts and places that stupid ugly tag on the page without any ground. Can you help out please? It's about this. Thanks and good weekend, Tisquesusa (talk) 02:11, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello Tisquesusa, I'm actually in the UK this month, so I can't watch the Copa America! I had a look at the article and I think the issue the other editor had were that the references were not independent: CVs and descriptions of work experiences are not generally considered independent sources as they are written by the author themselves, and likewise the last three references are to works written by the author – the fact that they are published by the university where he works doesn't make them secondary sources. So the only independent sources would be the interview and the articles from Semana and El Tiempo. Richard3120 (talk) 11:03, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Ahh, well enjoy the Old Continent then! ;-) But that is the whole problem; that user doesn't read or check links. The CV comes from the colciencias site that lists many CVs of scientists; written by that site, not by the scientists themselves. WorldCat also lists works itself, not the writer. And the problem is also the arrogance and lack of specifics. He doesn't care shit about what I write and how the article is set-up. Just going over new articles and tagdumping. Luckily it's now gone. Enjoy your stay there! Cheers, Tisquesusa (talk) 07:22, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the insult, really appreciated!

Thanks for the great insult of my hard work. A fucking C-class, are you mad? Other C-class articles in Colombia: Colombian Declaration of Independence, Sumapaz Paramo, Eliécer Silva Celis, Liborio Zerda (both also tagged by you), Piaroa people, 50,000 Colombian peso note. Obviously the article with 120+ references, an interesting read, completeness, images, links to other articles doesn't deserve a C-class. It should be a fucking stub. Great review, thanks a lot. I bet you didn't even read the article. Tisquesusa (talk) 19:09, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Shit, Tisquesusa, I am so sorry, you have every right to be mad – I honestly meant to tag that as C-class, and I think it should probably be B-class, because I did read it and I think it's really impressive, but that needs a separate review. I even knew immediately which article you were talking about without you naming it, because I already had it in my head that I'd tagged it as C-class. I obviously had a mental aberration and I can't apologise enough – I hold my hands up and say I screwed up big-time. Sorry. Richard3120 (talk) 00:17, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Come vote (again)

Hi. I am sorry to bother you, and I really hate having to stoop to this level. But since they did, so am I. They even told me to do it. So here I am (I don't know how to 'ping' someone).

I noticed that you took part in one of the numerous times that Side to Side was voted on or redirected. Well, a 3 day old voting decision isn't enough for them. They are back, and wanting a page and have a vote going on. They have Side to Side (song) running and a name change request was sent back to the talk page for a vote.

If you care to voice your opinion (again), feel free to click. Your previous decision does not count towards the current vote. This one is primarily about changing the name, but I feel that since it was currently voted to redirect, that the primary voting reason should be about whether to have a page or not. Either way, voices need to be heard (again).

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 350 articles in just six days. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thankyou. List of current members of the Senate of Colombia

Just letting you know that I have updated the List of current members of the Senate of Colombia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_members_of_the_Senate_of_Colombia. Consider removing the tag. Have a nice day --Ospination (talk) 18:13, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Ospination – there are a couple of spelling corrections that need to be made, but you have done all the hard work to update the list, and it is greatly appreciated. Best regards. Richard3120 (talk) 19:23, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Non-free image use?

Hi, are you able to clarify what you said about adding images of people? I was under the impression that if photographs were uploaded to Flickr or YouTube under a free license, and taken in a public place ("At an event where people are openly taking pictures"), then they're fine for Wikipedia. Is this untrue? Neegzistuoja (talk) 08:20, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Neegzistuoja, you are correct, but my worry is that some of the photos were uploaded illegally to Flickr is the first place. For example, the photo you used of Brendan O'Connor was presumably originally found here, and because it comes from an Australian government website and it looks like a posed photo at an official meeting, I thought that perhaps there were copyright issues in play here. I also don't know what the legal status is of pictures taken as stills from videos, such as that of Myf Warhurst – presumably the copyright for the video belongs to Waffle TV, and I honestly don't know whether taking a single video still counts as copyright infringement.
Please don't think I am accusing you of widespread copyright violations – it's obvious the vast majority of the images you have uploaded are public domain and perfectly fine, it was just the status of a few that concerned me. I think I need to ask the question on the talk page of WP:Image use policy to get some clarification on these points, there are some grey areas here. Richard3120 (talk) 19:40, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for added WP tags. Stvbastian (talk) 21:40, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Stvbastian, that's very kind of you. I try and add WikiProject tags to everything related to WikiProject Colombia, which I am a member of – without tags, nobody knows articles exist and they end up disappearing into the Wikipedia ether. There ought to be some way of automatically placing articles without WikiProject tags into a category so editors know they exist and do something about them. Hi. Would you be willing to weigh in this RfC regarding AnyDecentMusic? should be added in the album ratings template like Metacritic, because the website is another review aggregator. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 03:30, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Jon Asher page

Hi Richard3120

thank you for your time spent looking into the article Jon Asher - we're doing our best to keep the article updated for real purposes of displaying a growing discography for the author and songwriter Jon Asher. Asher is a top 40 songwriter and just wrote a new top 20 single with The Chainsmokers released even since your nomination for deletion. Would you kindly help out the team working on maintaining truthful and accurate information regarding the author, Jon Asher, by removing the deletion nomination? We are working daily to keep all information available to wikipedia as fast as possible. As far as the Aaron Carter song not charting, that is because Asher executive produced the project which is not out yet, but according to many sources online signed to Sony Records this month. Things take time to roll out for the music industry it would be great help to acknowledge this and give not be as harsh on the article as it is quickly changing. As far as sources are concerned online, we will do our best to help assist there and find more sources for this article. Thank you again for all you do for the wiki community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keyofgemini (talkcontribs) 18:22, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Keyofgemini, I didn't nominate the article for deletion so I can't remove it, and Wikipedia doesn't work like that – once the AfD tag has been added, it is then discussed at the relevant deletion discussion and a consensus is reached, you can't just remove the tag. The question is not whather the information is accurate or not, it is whether there are enough reliable sources to establish Mr Asher's notability. And that means interviews or articles in established magazines which detail him in depth. Richard3120 (talk) 18:27, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Richard3120, thank you for your quick response. If there is anything you can do for this article, it would be greatly appreciated, we will work to get more credible sources for the article.

"Shout Out to My Ex" Japanese peak

Hey Richard, would you be able to keep an eye out for Malifact (talk · contribs) editing "Shout Out to My Ex"? This user seems to be under the impression that the only official or acceptable chart for Japan on Wikipedia is Oricon, despite the fact that per WP:GOODCHARTS, Billboard as a publisher of Japanese charts (chiefly the Japan Hot 100) is as valid as Oricon. Thanks. Ss112 22:15, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

The The 'Infected' album

Hi, I see that you added a fair amount of information on the recording of, and the videos filmed for, The The's Infected album. I've uploaded a 20 minute interview video with Matt Johnson that aired on Australian TV in 1986 to YouTube, which you may find useful for adding more info, if relevant. Music Week sources

Hi! I noticed that on articles like 1995 in British music and the like, you added sources for the best-selling albums of the year from Music Week. Do you have access to these old issues, and if so would I be able to get request some information from you? Thanks. Andre666 (talk) 14:24, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

TLC discography

Thanks for patrolling the TLC discography page. I have it on my watchlist too, due to the frequent vandalism, even though I don't particularly care for the group. I think we would be justified in requesting that the page be protected. I'm happy to request this if you think we should.Nqr9 (talk) 00:56, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

@Nqr9: personally I quite like the group (CrazySexyCool is a great album), but the main reason I have ended up with that page on my watchlist is a result of the nightmare that is List of best-selling girl groups – I don't know what it is about fans of TLC, Destiny's Child/Beyoncé, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony and the various Japanese and Korean girl groups that causes them to have endless battles about which one has sold more than the other. That article easily gets two or three IPs per DAY making unsubstantiated claims about their particular favourite, and there are at least two page patrollers who appear to be working full-time just to revert all the changes – the page has just been protected yet again, and I'm using the breathing space to push on the talk page for changes to the all-time top ten table, which is the main bone of contention. In contrast, the TLC discography seems to only average about three IP vandals a month – no harm in asking for semi-protection, but I wouldn't be surprised if an admin decides that three vandals a month isn't enough to justify the protection. I found the discography had been greatly overinflated last year and made a lot of corrections to chart peaks and certifications, and they seem to have stabilised since then. Richard3120 (talk) 01:39, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for elaborating. I guess a page protection isn't vital then if you're happy to keep patrolling it. I've fixed up several discography pages with false or unverified chart peaks, but the TLC one seems to get more vandalism than most of them on my watchlist.Nqr9 (talk) 02:01, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, keeping track of this article is a walk in the park compared to the other one, believe me; I don't mind keeping an eye on this one. Richard3120 (talk) 02:11, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Sorry Walter, you're absolutely correct – as a matter of fact I wasn't even aware there was a WP:REPEATLINK guideline, but yes, there is a difference. Either way, those links were unnecessary – honestly, linking "etc"?? Richard3120 (talk) 01:00, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Many thanks about providing all these references in your reply. I am truly impressed and grateful to you. I have used some of your references to add to the article in a bid to save it. Without your intervention, I wouldn't have noticed this request and we would have a deletion. Now through your efforts I think we have gained an article on a truly impressive and clearly gifted artist. I dedicate Manuel Turizo's song (a huge hit by the way) to you and your efforts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYtJAuoZxcc werldwayd (talk) 01:08, 9 September 2017 (UTC) werldwayd (talk) 01:11, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

@Werldwayd: thank you for your kind words and the musical dedication. I just try and take part in deletion discussions without any prejudice, and decide to "keep" or "delete" based on the evidence I find... in my case, I live in Colombia, so it's easier for me than for most editors to know what are reliable sources in this country, and where to find them. Richard3120 (talk) 01:42, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
We do need coverage about artists from third world countries despite the lack of English-language references. I do run my own website http://www.1wxrld.com highlighting all these artists from many countries, genres and languages. Based our conversation, I have added now this artist Manuel Turizo into my "Bubbling Under" page http://www.1wxrld.com/bubbling-under for both "Una Lady Como Tú" and for "Besame" meaning they will appear in My Top 100 chart in the coming weeks. werldwayd (talk) 04:30, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
Again many thanks for your efforts User:Richard3120. Now the article is saved. See talk page of Manuel Turizo Zapata. But the decision to keep the article leaves the matter of renaming the article. My preference goes to Manuel Turizo (with Manuel Turizo Zapata and MTZ becoming redirects). Almost all media call him Manuel Turizo without mentioning Zapata. What do you think? On this occasion, I also dedicate to you the acoustic version of "Una Lady Como Tú" as sung by Manuel in an interview with El Heraldo of Colombia https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=219&v=EmZ5sqcpWTw The Heraldo article is here I have also included it in my own personal website http://www.1wxrld.com at the "Bubbling section" section http://www.1wxrld.com/bubbling-under for inclusion in my future charts proably next week. So thanks for introducing me to this talented artist when you posted your comments and references on the AfD discussion. werldwayd (talk) 00:10, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

JGabbard's Kent Music Report end of year chart positions beyond the top 100

Replying to your comment on my talk page re: JGabbard's Kent Music Report end of year chart placings outside the top 100, citing David Kent's book:

You are correct. His 1970-1992 chart book only contains top 25 charts for each year up to 1992, though his chart was superseded by the ARIA Charts in mid-1988. Therefore, this user's citation is incorrect, and it is bad practice to cite something that you obviously haven't sighted yourself. This user doesn't appear to be a vandal, but is clearly adding this information without citing a valid source. I'm not sure where they got this information from, but I have scans of the Kent Report top 100 charts from that era, and they do not extend beyond the top 100, other than having a list of "singles (or albums) receiving significant sales reports beyond the top 100" - but these are not numbered, and no such lists exist for the annual charts. I would be curious to know where they got this information from - my only guess would be possibly from David Kent directly, but then, unless they referred to screen-shots of correspondence, how can they prove it is accurate? I would be inclined to first ask where they obtained this information from, if not to remove it, as they have not provided a valid source (and it seems they don't even own or have a copy of the book they are citing).Nqr9 (talk) 06:08, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

I asked this user what the source of the Australian peaks they added was, and they said it was from a document based on the book, and that they had no reason to believe the information was inaccurate, as other data from the document matched up with other wikipedia entries. I wrote on their talk page that I have the book, and only an annual top 25 chart appears in it; plus the scans of the Kent Music Report weekly charts I have do not list chart positions beyond #100. I've asked if they can forward me a copy of the document, but haven't yet received a repsonse. I removed the entries they added for 'Here Comes the Rain Again' and 'Straight Up' - the latter wouldn't be correct, anyway, as David Kent's charts were not used by ARIA after mid-June 1988.Nqr9 (talk) 03:07, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

Ayo

Thanks for spotting the incomplete disambiguation with the old album. Actually you don't need a RM for that according to WP:DISAMBIGUATION, simply submit an "uncontroversial move" into the upper section of WP:RM giving WP:DISAMBIGUATION as the reason. There is no partial disambiguation (album) or (album) dab possible. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:30, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

@In ictu oculi: thanks for clarifying. I've done plenty of uncontroversial moves in the past, but this time I wasn't so sure, even though I wasn't expecting any opposition – actually I was more concerned about what to do with the resulting Ayo (album) page, whether it then becomes a disambiguation page for the two albums or a redirect to Ayo (the latter seems more obvious to me). Richard3120 (talk) 17:07, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
No problem, but nothing with ( ) can become a disambiguation page by definition. See WP:PDAB cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:09, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
Ah, I wasn't aware of that guideline, thanks. And I totally agree with it. Richard3120 (talk) 17:12, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:48, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

List of Atlus downloadable games into List of Atlus games

Hi there, in regards to List of Atlus downloadable games being merged into List of Atlus games, the decision has been unanimously agreed for the merge to occur. Is there any reason as to why the merge hasn't occurred yet? Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 15:50, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

@Iftekharahmed96: the listing at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers is simply to get the articles tagged to bring them to the attention to other editors, so that a merger discussion can take place and a consensus is reached... it's up to the editors to carry out the merge themselves if consensus to merge has been agreed. By all means go ahead and do it yourself if there has been no opposition. Richard3120 (talk) 15:56, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for this richard3120, and apologies for the belated reply. Nothing to apologise for on your part- if I'd looked closer I would have seen what you had already done- and I would have done the same in your shoes. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Aquostic II: That's a Fact, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page John Gustafson (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Thank you for your edit of the above article. The article lacks a portrait of Wilkinson, and I note from your citation that there is a portrait of him in Jesus College. If you have access to it, please could you kindly photograph the portrait and upload it to Commons? - Then it can go in the article. The portrait will be pre-1914, so the licence {{PD-old-70-1923}} can be used. Storye book (talk) 10:23, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

@Storye book: unfortunately I don't have any access to photos of Wilkinson... I only changed the birth date and location because there was no citation for the previous data, and the details from Venn's book, which was already in the references, state 26 December and in Walsham, so I changed the details according to that reference, in the absence of any better ones. Reportedly haunted locations in Valle del Cauca Department

(In response to this message)
I moved the article from the parent category to the regional subcategory as it is listed with a citation on List of reportedly haunted locations in Colombia, the category's main article. The article makes clear that it is the network's base of operations which is haunted rather than the television airwaves themselves, not that there's likely to be any confusion. Colombian chart

Good evening, I read your message at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of number-one songs of 2018 (Singapore) and while I don't mind if that particular article gets deleted, I was surprised that you mentioned that you have "concerns" about other articles I've created, namely List of number-one songs of 2018 (Colombia). I just wanted to clarify that when I created that article, National Report had not updated their charts since November 2017, which is why I put the Monitor Latino charts. Today I checked their website, and now they seem to have put new charts, so perhaps I'll add them, in fact you can do it too, to aliviate your concerns. --CHUI372 (talk) 03:26, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello CHUI372 – my concerns about the Colombia article are (1) I always thought that the official national chart in Colombia was the one supplied by National-Report, and (2) whether the Monitor Latino chart was also considered an official one. I know that Monitor Latino themselves are a reputable company and have been supplying the Mexican chart for some years – it's just that if you look at List of number-one songs of 2017 (Colombia) and previous years, they all use the National-Report chart, and I think it would look strange to switch chart providers without any reason. I didn't know that the National-Report chart hadn't updated since November, which seems very odd. Of course, it's perfectly possible that there is more than one accepted chart in the country – the USA had both the Billboard and Cash Box charts for many years, as illustrated in List of Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles of 1980 and List of Cash Box Top 100 number-one singles of 1980. I think maybe we should have two articles titled in the same way, i.e. List of National-Report number-one songs of 2018 (Colombia) and List of Monitor Latino number-one songs of 2018 (Colombia). What do you think? Richard3120 (talk) 00:43, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Good evening, I understand your concerns. To be honest, I'm not sure if National Report can be considered an "official" chart either, given that they don't mention any sponsorship from the Colombian government or from a Colombian recording association on their site, nor have their charts been mentioned by the Colombian state media (by contrast, Mexico has at least 2 "official" charts, given that Monitor Latino's charts are covered by Notimex, which is the government news agency, and on the other hand AMPROFON represents the Mexican recording industry and is also a member of IFPI), but I do understand that it's the most popular chart. I don't think there's a need to make multiple articles for one country, I think we can just put both lists on the same article, or if you don't find the Monitor Latino charts to be accurate at all, those can be removed, what's your opinion? --CHUI372 (talk) 08:52, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

@CHUI372: you might be right about National-Report, actually... I think it's become the "official" Colombian chart by default, because it's had no competition since it started in 2009. However, I don't think that means it can be replaced entirely by the Monitor Latino chart – there are many song articles that use the National-Report chart placings over the last eight years, and I think it would be strange if we didn't continue to use it. But I don't have any problem with adding the Monitor Latino chart as well if you want – I won't object to having both charts in the same article, although I foresee that some other editors might complain. But we'll worry about that in the future.
I should point out that I think National-Report also compile charts for Venezuela and Ecuador, so maybe you will have the same issue for Venezuela – that there is both a National-Report and a Monitor Latino chart. Richard3120 (talk) 01:00, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
@Richard3120: I've just added the National Report chart to the article. In fact it seems to be the only chart National-Report has published this year, I can't find the charts for January on their site or on their archive. As for Venezuela, actually I've seen that the chart used for that country on Wikipedia is Record Report. The Wikipedia article states that it's the "official" chart for Venezuela, but again, their website doesn't mention a specific sponsorship from the Venezuelan recording industry, or from the Government, so I'm not sure if their charts are more reliable or "official" than the National-Report or Monitor Latino ones. And just like National-Report, for some reason Record Report has only published one chart so far this year. I'll add it to the 2018 number-one songs in Venezuela songs later. --CHUI372 (talk) 07:44, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
@CHUI372: Does National-Report have an archive? It's always been a complaint that they only publish the current week's chart, and once it's gone, you can't see charts from previous weeks, so you have to manually archive each week's chart. I've written to them and asked if they plan to implement a searchable archive, but I got no answer. Richard3120 (talk) 13:54, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
@Richard3120: I looked at the "Noticias" section of their website, they've published news articles about the February chart, but none for previous weeks of 2018. They also publish some of their charts on their Facebook page, but I got nothing for January 2018 either. --CHUI372 (talk) 07:45, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
