Notability of Walling Van Winkle
[edit]A tag has been placed on Walling Van Winkle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add hangon
on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. PigmanTalk to me 07:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
In general, links should only be to something that people might actually link to. For dates, full dates should be linked (e.g. November 13, 2007), but year-only dates should not. I suggest reviewing the Manual of Style to better understand these issues. Thanks again for all of your work on local articles. Alansohn 22:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I have removed the link to Mystic ballet, as it is not vital to Mystic, as not very many people would link to it. It is altogether a very minor part of Mystic, and a place like Mystic Art Association would be more of a notable place. The Mystic Ballet is just not important enough to be here. Catgory changes to mayor articles
[edit]Please stop adding articles about mayors of Jersey City to Category:Mayors of places in New Jersey. They are already in Category:Mayors of Jersey City, New Jersey and should not be in both the super and sub-categories. Jim Miller See me | Touch me 01:33, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Heads-up on created page
[edit]Just so you know, a page on the Passaic-Bergen Rail Line already exists, and your created page is redundant. Also, hate to say it, you got the name backwards, per all the NJT literature I've seen, Passaic comes first in the name. See here: 1 Also, the DMUs planned are not technically light rail, so It doesn't belong on the Light Rail in NJ template.oknazevad (talk) 16:58, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Hackensack Fire Department
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Hackensack Fire Department, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Hackensack Fire Department seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Hackensack Fire Department, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Fire Departments in NJ
[edit]Hi, I see you've begun some great work by starting Category:Fire departments in New Jersey. If you're going to be putting some work into this, I'm interested in helping you. I'm going to start off by putting an "Emergency Services" section to the respective municipality's articles like this, and inserting a MAIN ARTICLE tag into that section. Sound good? shirulashem (talk) 21:24, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds very good. I like the addition of the emergency services section to the River Vale page. Your help is greatly appreciated. Rhvanwinkle (talk) 21:51, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
I've noticed that you made an addtion emergency services. Just thought I'd point out that there is an article for North Hudson itself, would ask you to help with it should you come across info that you think is appropriate. (I've linked the newly created one as a see also) Secondy, and more interestly, I've also noticed that you have done some work on articles I've created or done major work on related to New Netherland. You're a descendent of an original Pavonia settler, I gleen from the name and the article (WOW!-I'm impressed) I myself am not, but the subject is dear to me. (Born, raised, lived, and live: Manhattan, Weehawken, Hoboken, Amsterdam (NL). Am hoping to really get the New Netherland series organized as I believe that, in light of this 400th annivesary year, there will more more hits to them. Your help there would also be greatly appreciated. Djflem (talk) 05:48, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Creating empty talk pages
[edit]Please don't create talk pages just for the sake of creating them, as at Talk:Shelland. It wastes the time of people with the article on their watchlist, and wastes time of anyone wanting to edit the article, who will see that there's a talk page and check it in case there has been relevant discussion. There's nothing to be gained by creating an empty talk page, so please don't continue to make them. Thanks. PamD (talk) 18:16, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

County NRHP lists
[edit]Hi RH ... First off, thanks for your work on National Register of Historic Places listings in Bergen County, New Jersey and other NRHP-related articles. I wanted to explain why I reverted one of the edits you made to the Bergen County list. WP:NRHP's policy is to have the names displayed in the lists reflect the name that's in the National Park Service NRIS database (with the exception of obvious typographic errors, of which there are many in the database). When a WP article for a given site has a different name, we use a piped link so the name displays as it is in the NRIS. Also, it's helpful to other editors if you include a brief edit summary when you edit a page. Even a short summary is better than none at all. Thanks again for your contributions and keep up the good work! --sanfranman59 (talk) 18:42, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Howdy!
Just wondering: why do you think that the article on Lebanon, CT should be rated Start-class? I know it's not very large, but it seems to be pretty comprehensive, relative to it's size and prominence... no? Thanks! Korossyl (talk) 15:54, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
- Reassessed as a C class article. The article is comprehensive and well developed but there is always room for improvement. Rhvanwinkle (talk) 13:00, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Two thoughts
[edit]Thanks for your work on talk page tags, an otherwise thankless job. I suspect that I'm one of the guilty parties -- all of my recent creations have them, but I didn't understand the need when I started creating Maine lighthouse stubs.
Would you please add a short summary to your edits? For your current additions to the lighthouse talk pages, even "tags" would be enough. That's particularly true on a talk page, as page watchers will want to see what you said -- and, of course, a tag says nothing.
More important, you might consider using AWB for these edits. It's much much faster than doing them one at a time. I've used it for similar things -- going through a list of talks to remove reqphoto where applicable. You can set it up to add the appropriate tags to every article in a list and then hit "ignore" for those that already have them, and "save" only when needed -- and then up pops the next one.... . . . . Mystic River Historic District, etc.
[edit]Hi, thanks for starting the Mystic River Historic District article and for just now adding a pic. Do you have any other pics? It would be great to knpw; pls mention at Talk:Mystic River Historic District if you have more. I notice you've been busy! I've started many stub articles for NRHP-listed places myself, and sometimes been criticized for doing so by editors who prefer for articles to be fairly substantial, from the get-go. I am happy to see you opening new articles, though, myself. I'd also be happy help develop a few at a time, like the Mystic River one. In Connecticut (but not New Jersey, i think), almost all the NRHP nomination documents are available on-line and can immediately be added to an article, so for CT ones at least it would be great if you could try to add them. You can search for NRHP documents that the National Register provides on-line for some states here, by the way. Hope you can further help with the Mystic River HD article. Also, you'd be very welcome to join wp:NRHP as a member by adding your name, and whether you're a member or not you are welcome to comment/ask questions at its Talk page wt:NRHP or to post announcement of your new NRHP articles or photos at its main page, in the new contributions section. Keep up the good work! --doncram (talk) 17:24, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

HABS pix
[edit]I've noticed your work, especially on New Jersey, on NRHP articles. Keep up the good work. BTW, I'm from Philly and have been doing some South Jersey stuff. I also noticed at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/to do there are requests to clean up HABS pix on 4 or 5 NRHP lists in North Jersey. The main problem is trimming the black border. I don't think anybody around here has the right to tell folks how they have to do something - least of all me - but should you want an example of how I think folks want HABS pix uploaded, here's an example File:HABS Emlen Physick Estate.jpeg.
Notice the date, photographer, link to loc (not the photograph itself, but the intro slide just before it), the larger pix, and the 38°56′25″N 74°54′51″W / 38.94028°N 74.91417°W
If you want any help on this please ask me; or I'd think User:Nyttend or User:Doncram might be willing to help. Or if you want to tell me to go mind my own business - I'm USUALLY pretty good about doing that too.
Any help appreciated. Smallbones (talk) 18:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Rhvanwinkle, you uploaded a number of HABS pics before without including photographer name, date, other crediting info. Could you make an effort to correct these? You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm here to chat about Seated Lincoln
[edit]an article that I was happy to discover since I am a sculpture editor and hang around Gutzon Borglum sometimes. That's the good news. The "other news" involves the title of the work. To me (one of the 27 words and phrases that mean " my opinion") the Seated Lincoln is by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, in Chicago. The Smithsonian Archives of American Art refer to the Newark statue simply as "Abraham Lincoln", as does this source [1]. So .... any ideas? Which is to ask, why do you feel that this work is titled 'Seated Lincoln"? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 04:37, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

NRHP in Connecticut
[edit]Hey dude, I saw when a new bot for WP:NRHP spat out a list of new articles that could possibly be under the project's scope that you were lighting up the Connecticut NRHP listings. I think this is awesome.. though the articles are a little short and could possibly be expanded using the official NRHP nomination forms for each site available at NRHP Focus (see here). One thing I would suggest is that normally when new articles are created in the project, they are added to the front page to kind of let other people in the project know how we're doing. To add an article to the front page, simply click here and add the article to the top of the list, making sure to follow the instructions given there. This is by no means necessary, but I think a lot of people would like to know that these articles have been created. The bot listing is a relatively new thing, so not many people have it on their watchlists yet, so adding articles to the front page makes them more visible.
Thanks for helping out with the project! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 08:00, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Move to Jersey City Fire Department
[edit]Hi Rip. Regarding your move of the above article, I don't know if you were aware but there was an open requested move survey on the article's talk page. It might have been better to have let that run its course but in any event, such discussions should be closed (which I have done) following the move so that the article listing is removed from the requested move process page (done by a bot once the Movereq template is no longer on the article's talk page). Also, when you move a page there are a number of things that often need fixing, such as double redirects created, the page's sort key and, relevant here, any fair use images need to be updated to list the correct page they are included on, which I have now done for File:FDJC Emblem.png. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:10, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Wildwoods historic district
[edit]Hi, I noticed your fine work on all matters New Jersey and I thought I'd ask: is Wildwood,_New_Jersey#Wildwoods_Shore_Resort_Historic_District in the right place? It seems to me that this historic district spans Wildwood proper as well as Wildwood Crest, and I'm wondering if you think it should be split off or moved to The Wildwoods, or whether the latter should be kept as little more than a disambiguation page. Please disregard the question if you wish. Thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:09, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- The Wildwoods Shore Resort Historic District is roughly bounded by East Topeka, Atlantic, Andrews and Beach avenues according to the State Historic Preservation Office. This area includes both Wildwood and Wildwood Crest with the vast majority of the district being in Wildwood Crest. The district had a SHPO opinion in 2003 but is not on the New Jersey or the National Registers of Historic Places. I would think that having the main article on The Wildwoods page with links to it from both Wildwood and Wildwood Crest would make the most sense.Rhvanwinkle (talk) 20:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I do see that part of the confusion is that the third paragraph of Wildwood,_New_Jersey states that it is also a commonly used term for The Wildwoods (which it certainly was for me, growing up). So the relationship between these two articles is a bit unclear. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 21:04, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- On second thought, I think it will improve navigation if I change Wildwoods Shore Resort Historic District from a redirect to a main article. It merits one and it will resolve any questions as to where this text should reside. I'll make sure there are links to the article from both Wildwood, New Jersey and The Wildwoods. thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 22:08, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Copy and pasting my sandboxes
[edit]It has come to my eyesight that you have prematurely posted some of my sandboxes on Wikipedia as stubs under the Erie Railroad name. I realize they are somewhat open, but please, next time. Try to contact me when you want to edit my sandbox, but not take them and cite that you created them yourself. It is really a spit in the face that you say you did this work and none of the research. I can almost see the copy and paste you did of my West Arlington sandbox as some are still the same sentences I wrote! If you haven't edited the sandbox, technically you can't just copy and paste my work into its own and say you wrote it. I am all open for collaboration, but I am also against making stubs and violations of copyright considering I was the only person whoever worked on them. If you want to edit my sandboxes, you could have asked, and as a sandbox we could've finished all of them, but now I've got to handle 5 more stubs that I didn't want to have happen. Could you please consider contacting me first and stop blatantly pasting my sandboxes.Mitch32(Transportation Historian) 23:16, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello and good afternoon (at least it is afternoon where I am). I was looking at the Wikipedian firefighters category and noticed that you are one of the members of the Wikipedia community that lists yourself as being a firefighter. First and foremost let me say thank you for your service. While I myself am not a firefighter, I do work as a photographer with multiple local fire departments. I am honored to have firefighters as some of my closest friends.
I have been taking an active role in the Fire Service WikiProject and am trying to recruit more members to this cause. If this is something you have any interest in, please let me know? You can leave me a message on my talk page. Obviously there is zero obligation. An interest can be anything from helping out with a couple of pages in your local area to helping to overhaul major templates, and anything in between.
Once again, thank you for your service. Hope to hear from you soon. Stay safe! --Zackmann08 (talk) 17:56, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Clifton Fire Department
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Clifton Fire Department requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Zackmann08 (talk) 21:13, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:North Stonington seal.gif
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:North Stonington seal.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. The article Regina M. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Notability not established with substantive independent sources for generic boat
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
Also:
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
