Welcome new user
Hello, User:Retroplum, I see you've opened an account and begun to make edits to the encyclopaedia. You are most welcome and thank you for the many constructive edits you have made.
I'm Lumos3, one of the numerous editors here. I voluntarily work as a welcomer to newcomers. I'm posting below a standard welcome box with lots of useful links. I hope you get pleasure from editing and making Wikipedia an even better resource for the community.
I myself have come to the conclusion that editing and watching a topic is a great way to learn about it in depth and stay on top of current developments in a field.
Wikipedia encourages new members to jump in and make corrections and contributions to articles. I found the Be bold guideline particularly encouraging when I was getting started. I also found theWikipedia:Cheatsheet a useful quick reference for editing the source text but our newVisualEditor makes editing much easier (This needs to be turned on in your user preferences under beta features).
If you have any questions about the project don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page here :- User_talk:Lumos3.
Happy editing,
Lumos3 (talk) 23:57, 12 January 2014 (UTC) , Wikipedia Welcoming Committee.

Disambiguation link notification for January 15
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:2 pound 2011 bible.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:2 pound 2011 bible.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:19, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

License tagging for File:MARCOM.png
Thanks for uploading File:MARCOM.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:06, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

- I have just tagged the two farthing images with {{PD-UKGov}} since the coins are more than 50 years old. If you made the images yourself, you should edit the file pages to say this. I will post at WP:REFUND to see if an admin will undelete this threepenny bit image for you. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:46, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that photographs of coins were not copyrightable, and although in the past this seems to have been held to be true on Wikipedia this is no longer the case. See [[1]]. I only recently realised this and so I think a number of images I uploaded should be removed, including the farthing images, since they were not photographed by me. I'm in the process of replacing all I can with images of my own creation. Retroplum (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, yes. If the policy is to treat coins as 3D objects then you are correct. I'll undo a few of the edits I've just made. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:01, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. Seems a debatable policy to me, but better safe than sorry I guess. Retroplum (talk) 20:03, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Department for Transport.svg
Hi, I noticed that you cropped the image I uploaded, File:Department for Transport.svg. The was a reason why I left 2px padding in the file, the reason being wrong rendering in smaller sizes on many displays (image edges are getting cropped). So, I always try to leave a 2px padding in all images that have thin lines near edges. See example of wrong cropping here (crown and letter p have a pixel "cut off"): https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/11/Department_for_Transport.svg/120px-Department_for_Transport.svg.png. kashmiri TALK 02:11, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ahh, I see what you mean. Feel free to revert to the older image if you like. I think I was trying to upload as many SVG departmental logos as I could and ended up replacing a few that were already there. If I have time I'll try and pad them as you suggest but you can go and do it yourself if you feel like it. Retroplum (talk) 02:17, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, splendid initiative. I thought of doing the same for a long time but never got around to it. Actually, I thought of sort of standardising the logo - the coat of arms, font size and/or image size, and file naming on WP - and then update all articles en masse. Great if you are doing this already. For an example of padding issue, see for instance File:Beeline.svg where I did not add any padding: note the M in the "TM" mark when viewing as PNG. Hi there!
I'm sorry about the rather epic backlog at DYK right now. I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe Christmas? Anyway, I've looked at this, and if there's any way this can be shaken up a bit with a tonal shift, that would be great. I'll get right on giving it a tick once the issues are sorted out. Hi, you removed lettering from the logo of DfID. This somehow brings it in line with other UK Government logos here on Wikipedia but violates the official DfID visual identity guidelines listed in the source (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/326391/UK_aid_branding_guidance_June_2014.pdf). As you can see on page 3 there, the official DfID logo includes lettering. Regards, kashmiri TALK 23:20, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
