Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! -- Asher Heimermann 06:02, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

So you would like to be adopted? frummer 00:26, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

for sure! welcome! Let me tell you first off there is one thing I can help you with and that is reading! You must at least try to read the rules, perhaps a bit every day. Anyways, when ever you have a question, post if on your page. I will come to answer it whenever I can. You have a few now?
I had a look through your contributions, it looks like you're doing a good job. Sometime's you might need to discuss changes you want to make but unless you're doing something you've been warned not to do, dont worry. About redirects, its very simple, there a whole page about it here, but in a nutshell in the empty page you want to redirect you write #REDIRECT [[pagename]] and it redirects. Magic! frummer 02:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would recomend you leave it on so that other wikipedians who see to music articles in the stub category come see for themselves. In this way you can get more people to edit it, but if you feel its really not a stub anymore then go ahead, take it off. At the moment there are too many red links though. Please either cut down on the red links or create some more stubs so long they're notable! frummer 05:21, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want your to look like mine or do you have someone elses in mind? It would be more helpful to have a model in mind! frummer 04:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It would be fine to use mine, if you use nav boxes like the little ones at the bottom of mine, you've have to have something big to fill up the rest of the space but it would be quick to fix you with mine. frummer 04:31, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza

[edit]

Welcome, Renegade Replicant, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Your VandalProof Application

[edit]

Dear Renegade Replicant,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you don't yet have the minimum of 250 mainspace edits. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof.

Hey renegade, sory its probably been a while since u wrote ur comment, but if ur still interested on writing an article togheter, please do email me, or tell me that ur still interested. I've left wikipedia for while, but I can work with you if you'd like to. Depending on when you'd like to start it, i will be fully availlable in the coming days. I've really had no time to see if there was one or not (since I've posted that message). I'll be having a stroll around before I'm ready to start on it, that is if you're ready. You don't need a password to create an account, you're looking at the existing user log-in.
To get an account, go to the same page and look directly above where it asks for your user name and click on the highlighted text that says "create one". From there, you can create your own account with your own password. Let me know what your user name is so I can help you if you have anymore questions. By the way, whenever you add a comment on a talk page, be sure to end your comment with four of these in a row (tildes): ~
I already fixed your previous comment, but be sure to sign everyone one of your comments so people know who said it.--Renegade Replicant|leave me a message 01:08, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Flaming_stars.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Flaming_stars.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:29, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've deleted this image. Because the copyright holder no longer exists, the property of the image is now in "rights hell," and it's unlikely we can use it. If there any other circumstances such the band having a deceased member or something of the sort, please get back to me on my talk page. east.718 at 00:13, December 18, 2007

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sea of fear.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sea of fear.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Renegade Replicant, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Thanks for uploading Image:Automata.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Fair use rationale for File:Crusadercover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Crusadercover.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:20, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Automata.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Automata.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:52, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region? Your view would be helpful at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. SilkTork ✔Tea time 02:32, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jon Kempin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wiki Loves Pride 2014

[edit]

Hi RR. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:19, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
