Comment on reference formatting
[edit]Hi! Can you please comment here? This is on formatting of references. The article follows the style used in Ganesha, but I doubt whether that would be accepted in FAC at present (due to the mixing of different styles). Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:56, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Yoga (GA Reassessment)
[edit]The Yoga article was recently tagged for multiples issues by an editor. Last week, I too had tagged a paragraph in Upanishadic and early Buddhist era section for failed verification of references. Some paragraphs in the article are just one line long, others are completely unreferenced. The way I see it, it would take a lot of effort by any editor to bring this article up to GA level. Do you think the article can be improved easily? Do you intend to improve it or should we go for a GA reassessment? Would like to know your thoughts. Regards. Please allow clarifications of the word Hindu
[edit]Dear Redtigerxyz,
I see that you have undone my comments regarding the use of the term "Hindu." Obviously you know much more than me about how Wikipedia works, and you more scholarly than I. However, the fact remains that "Hindu" is not a Vedic term, and is offensive to enlightened adherents of the Vedas, who use the term only as a concession. Why do you insist on deleting my attempts to set the record straight? I am deeply offended by your actions which I perceive as a form of religious intolerance.
There must be some common ground. How do you suggest we convey the realization that the term "Hindu" is foreign imposition in a manner which will not be offensive to those who insist on using this misnomer?
Thank you for your kind consideration of this matter.

- The origins of the word "Hindu" are not needed on every article that uses the word "Hindu". A article called Hindu discusses the etymology. You may add neutral worded and verifiable origins of the word in the "Etymology" section. The text added in Hindu texts was not neutral. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:58, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

The term "Hinduism" is offensive to the knowers of the Vedas.
[edit]Dear Redtigerxyz,
The religion of India is Dharma, not Hinduism. Imagine an article about Judaism and Christianity written by radical Muslims. You my feel that your viewpoint is neutral, but all knowledgeable Vedic authorities will find it close minded and biased.
There must be some middle ground which will allow us to use the term Hinduism and still inform the reader that the actual religion of the Vedas is Dharma. For example: "Hinduism or Dharma"

[edit]Hello, not sure why a recently link added was removed. It was by means no Propmotional link. The site provides lots of information on Hindu God Ganesha. There are videos and Blog articles related on the site. No products or other things are sold either. I see a similar site, which was not removed by you. The site added was Ganpati.tv
- Ganpati.tv seems like a blog and yahoo group or Facebook group like site. Such sites are not encouraged on Wikipedia as external links. Wikipedia only retains informational sites. Please remove any similar site left in the list. Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:13, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
Hello, Yes i agree, however, this site is very informative and giving accurate information. If you see the Blog, it has so many articles providing additional information to the viewers. Should be a valuable source for the readers towards Hindu Lord Ganesha. Should be reconsidered. Appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ganpatitv (talk • contribs) 17:18, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
I copyedited this article and I'd like you to check that I didn't mess anything up through lack of knowledge. Also, I've changed the Did You Know hook to read "referred to as a female Ganesha" instead of "referred to as female Ganesha"; I think it's reasonable to provide an informational link on Ganesha, and there seemed to me to be a need for either "the" or "a" in the phrase, but I wasn't sure which would be better. Since I'm about to promote the prep set to a queue (unless some other admin does so first), please let me know if you're unhappy with that hook change. Fair use images in Pan Twardowski
[edit]Hi Redtigerxyz, I'm a little confused about you removal of a movie screenshot from Pan Twardowski. The article does discuss works of art inspired by the legend including the film from which the screenshot is taken. Doesn't it provide a fair use rationale? What's additionally confusing is that you didn't remove the book cover, which is a fair use image too, using practically the same rationale. I'm probably not getting something, so I'd be grateful for an explanation. — Kpalion(talk) 19:54, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Redtigerxyz, I wanted to let you know that LauraHale did review those hooks a little while ago, and approved both Clarke and Stephenson (Stevenson?). Since Prep 1, amazingly, was still not completed, I put Clarke back into the lead spot where you'd had it.
I may be moving a couple of your hooks from prep 1 to prep 2: prep 1 will run between midnight and 8am London time, and it's generally a good idea to have local hooks run when the local people can see them. So Helen Porter and/or the HMS Ambrose could be in prep 2 sometime in the next hour or so. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:45, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

- Can I nominate Dev Deepawali and can you also suggest a hook. Also, I have completed Amalaka Ekadashi. You may like to edit it. Others will be betaken up after Deepawali. Here is Wishing you and yours a very happy and prosperous Deepawali.--Nvvchar. 18:38, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- Can I post the beautiful picture of the aarti which you have deleted as I though it would look good on the front page. Thanks for the editing. By the way are there two Shakti Peethas in Varanasi, one is the well where the her ear ring fell and the other is of Vishalakshi Temple where the eyes fell?--Nvvchar. 18:08, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Nome'd Amalaka Ekadashi.--Nvvchar. 19:52, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Shanta
[edit]I've moved Shanta. You're right, disambiguation is not necessary when there's nothing to disambiguate. Thank you for notifying Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests.--xanchester (t) 06:08, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject India Assessment Request
[edit]Hey, could you have a look at my assessment request about the article Meerut. (Not everything in your original suggestions has been done, but its better than then). Thanks and regards--Siddhartha Ghai (talk) 14:40, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Shakti Peetha, Varanasi
[edit]I have created the article on Shakti Peetha, Varanasi. You may like to add further. I could not find a photo of the Vishalaksi temple or the Mankarnika Ghat.--Nvvchar. 15:55, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- I tried to start this article but a warning that an article of this title Putrada Ekadashi, created in wiki in 2010 has been deleted comes up. How do I proceed?--Nvvchar. 06:10, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Please merge Shakti Peetha, Varanasi with Vishalaksi as I am not familiar with the merging process without loosing our contributions and other users contributions on the Vishalakshi page which is existing since 2006. I have the Putrada Ekadasi article almost ready in my files which I can post. Shall I post it under the title Pudrada Ekadasis since I know that there are two of them. --Nvvchar. 05:37, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
OK. But, I don't have user rights.--Nvvchar. 05:51, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Since I have not used any of the rights so far, I can not confirm what rights I have on my page.--Nvvchar. 06:13, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have added some more text and an infobox to this article Vishalakshi Temple and the last section was not referenced. As anticipated there is deletion notice on Putrada Ekadashi article on this talk page. I have also completed Shakti Peetha, Varanasi and Pavitropana Ekadashi. We can post all three tomarrow if you agree. I thought you would be right person to nominate them. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 01:39, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- This suggestion "Vishalakshi Temple: complete merge of Shakti Peetha, Varanasi pending. Need to add about temple structure, central icon, not done yet" is not clear to me. I thought we were posting the Shakti Peetha, Varanasi as a separate article. I could not get any details about the temple structure.--Nvvchar. 06:14, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have merged fully text from Shakti Peetha, Varanasi with Vishalakshi Temple manually. Please see if it is OK. I have also completed my inputs to Putrada Ekadashi and Pavitropana Ekadashi. Please nominate all of them if you find them all completed. I could not find any reference to describe the temple structure. I also found these two Shakthi Peethas in Pakistan, Shivaharkaray and Hinglaj Mata Mandir, which we could expand, I have added an infobox to the latter artcile. --Nvvchar. 16:21, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. Hook sounds interesting.--Nvvchar. 18:53, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Nice hook. I am doing the search for the Pausmas ekadashi but could hardly find any text to add more to the text that already exists there. You may find this reference [1] of use to our articles in future. Yes, I will start on the new article you have suggested. On the Shakti Peethas in Pakistan there are ten references of BBC (originating from the main news item) and also of the Teertha Yatra Management Organization (will it be acceptable as reliable reference) but no book source at all. I will be going back from San Diego to India tomorrow morning and will be BTW from 23rd instant. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 19:17, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- * I have done substantial work on Bimala Shaktipeeth. But I am not sure of the four Skathi peethas given in the image. I will add after I return to Delhi, and also start on other articles mentioned by you.--Nvvchar. 03:13, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
- This Mokshada Ekadashi is also done.
- I have created this Kamada Ekadashi. There is likely to be a deletion notice as this article had been created in 2010 and deleted. Please take care of any such issues. I will also address when it is posted on my talk page. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 00:43, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Putrada Ekadashi
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Putrada Ekadashi, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
*It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. (←misunderstanding)
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 12:26, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have also contested the deletion.--Nvvchar. 02:03, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Nirjala Ekadashi
[edit]On 21 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Nirjala Ekadashi, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Hindus fast without food or water on Nirjala Ekadashi in the hot Indian summer to propitiate the god Vishnu? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nirjala Ekadashi. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

DYK for Amalaka Ekadashi
[edit]On 22 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Amalaka Ekadashi, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that veneration of the Amla tree (pictured), in particular on Amalaka Ekadashi, is due to the belief that the god Vishnu resides in and near the tree? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Amalaka Ekadashi. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Re: Adi shaktipeethas
[edit]I was going by the article on Shakti Peethas which says the Shiva Purana, the Devi Bhagavata, the Kalika Purana and the AstaShakti recognize these 4 as the main Shakti Peethas. I looked again and saw no reference was given in the article. As for Bimala there is very little material, on a recent trip to Puri , I had to ask 4 pandas and 2 policemen before i could locate the temple. Regards
PS: Was the page name change to to Vimala Temple necessary? The goddess is popularly known as Bimala.
- While I endorse the change of name, I like your hook suggestion as it goes well with the img of Vimala. I have added two more images relevant to the text in the article.--Nvvchar. 07:19, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- Excellent. Yes, We should try for GA. Thanks. I will start on Hinglaj Mata shortly.--Nvvchar. 16:22, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
Both hooks are good. Img of Vimala could be added as the temple img is very faint.--Nvvchar. 19:41, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
May like to add User:sids (talk) in the creidt list since we have used the text posted on the talk page and minor edits with img contribution. --Nvvchar. 04:32, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
- Fine. The other two Ekadasi articles are to be edited and posted on DYK, for the Mokshada Ekadashi todate is 5th day for nomination. Meanwhile, I have also started on Varuthini Ekadashi.--Nvvchar. 16:52, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
- Any suggestion for the hook for Mokshada as I have not been able to select one.--Nvvchar. 16:58, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
- Nome'd on 22nd Nov., date. May like to change the hook or add a new img.--Nvvchar. 17:40, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hinglaj Mata article is now substantially expanded. References provided by you were useful. You may now like to add and c/e it.--Nvvchar. 09:51, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Adi shaktipeethas
[edit]You could rename them the 4 Tantra Pithas instead of deleting the template in view of the references in Vimala Temple sids (talk) 13:27, 25 November 2012 (UTC) Vested interest declared: created the page
