I want to suggest an edition to the Wikipedia article entitled [Hinduism].
[edit]A few years ago I tried to make an edition to the article on Hinduism. After the first mention of "Hinduism" in the article, I wanted to point out that the term Hindu is not native to the people of India, nor to the Vedas which are the books of so called "Hinduism". The actual religion of India is Dharma [1] or Sanatan Dharma [2]. However, my attempts were denied for lack of scholarly sources.
Today I find that there is an article in Wikipedia that makes the same point I was trying to make. It is found at https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Hinduism/Etymology_of_the_words_Hindu_and_Hinduism. [3]
Once again I request that after the term Hinduism at the start of the article "Hinduism", there should be a statement, with notation, that the term Hindu is not indigenous to India (or Bharata). The proper universal term for the religion of so called "Hindus" is Dharma or Sanatan Dharma.
I look forward to some progress in correcting this error of omission, which I and many "Hindus" find offensive.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours truly,
Martin A Rosenthal
