Here to help

[edit]

Following up on your questions at The Teahouse. The Peter D. Welch draft is looking pretty good (in my opinion). When we say "news sources" we typically mean coverage in the media by independent journalists or scientists. This could be scientific publications and journals (not authored by Dr. Welch), or any magazine/newspaper/digital publication with an editorial staff that have covered Dr. Welch. or Welch's method, for example, this. If you are having difficulty finding things, it may be okay, and I will look for as many as I can, but I wanted to clarify the "news mentions" for you. Your father sounds like he has made major contributions to his field and I hope to see this article published soon. Pyrrho the Skeptic (talk) 01:29, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Found out that Welch's method is an existing article, which is a big plus for supporting Peter's notability. I made that a Wikilink in the draft. David notMD (talk) 01:39, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that was already Wikilinked in the Lead. David notMD (talk) 02:18, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check all refs to be sure that the refs support the facts in the text. If not, replace. David notMD (talk) 10:04, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is Rebeccah. Thank you for your help! I'm so grateful. I can check refs and will. But my sense is that I should not work on this anymore because of COI. Is that correct? Also, this is a great source for Peter. It is an interview over an hour long. https://d.lib.ncsu.edu/computer-simulation/videos/peter-d-welch-interviewed-by-james-r-wilson-welch/ I cannot find the written transcript but can call them and ask...?RebeccahWelch (talk) 13:51, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RebeccahWelch As long as this is a draft, you can work on it directly, given you have declared your COI. Once accepted as an article, you are strongly advised to propose changes on the Talk page versus editing directly. P.S. Interviews and refs to journal articles written by Peter may contribute useful information, but do not meet the criteria of independent, secondary, reliable source references. Good afternoon. Might one of you advise me next steps.RebeccahWelch (talk) 16:25, 20 January 2022 (UTC) Can I re-submit? David notMD Pyrrho the Skeptic[reply]

I think it's ready to resubmit. Looks like the issues were addressed. Pyrrho the Skipper (talk) 16:39, 20 January 2022

(UTC)

Hi. Ok. Is it okay for me to do that?

Looks like it was just resubmitted by another user. Pyrrho the Skipper (talk) 16:44, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And, now the article exists here: Peter D. Welch Pyrrho the Skipper (talk) 16:45, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I see this message: "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (Learn how and when to remove this template message)"

Do I need to do anything with this? I declared my conflict of interest properly, but let me know if I need to do more. And thanks again for all of your help.

No. Just give it some time for other editors to make some edits. Pyrrho the Skipper (talk) 17:09, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In time, a not-commected editor will decide to remove the tag. David notMD (talk) 17:51, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Peter Welch was born on May 19, 1928.

@Pyrrho the SkipperHello. I am writing you here because you were helpful in the past.
My father, Peter D. Welch, died a little over a year ago on February 13, 2023. I was wondering if his page could reflect that. I have added his obit in the talk page. Also here: [1]https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/nytimes/name/peter-welch-obituary?id=47551550
He was born on May 19, 1928. RebeccahWelch (talk) 15:50, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.RebeccahWelch (talk) 20:15, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@RebeccahWelch Sorry for the delay. I've updated the article. Also, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad I was able to learn about his contributions. Pyrrho the Skipper (talk) 21:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pyrrho the Skipper Thank you!
I included a primary document for both his birth and death dates. He was born May 19, 1928 and his registration card is here in the talk page. I also included his NYT obit to show his death date which was on February 13, 2023. NYT obit RebeccahWelch (talk) 21:35, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
