Wikipedia and copyright
Hello Reading Beans! Your additions to Of Women and Frogs have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 13:14, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- I have additionally removed copyright plot descriptions from In The Name Of Our Father, Foreign Gods, Inc., Riot Baby, and War Girls. It is very important to write these in your own words — do not copy from other websites. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 13:21, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
August 2021
Your edit to The Winter of the Witch has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. DanCherek (talk) 20:12, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- @DanCherek: I needed a precise summary of the book (after reading it) and I got a source for it. I made my own words from it. This is what the source gave me: "The Grand Prince is angered, he therefore, chose allies that will lead him on a path to war and ruin. A wicked demon returns, stronger than ever and determined to spread chaos. Caught in-between the lines of war, ruins and chaos is Vasya, who finds the fate of two worlds resting on her shoulders." Seriously, you should re-check. If you’re using a bot, then I believe it probably needs a little tweaking. Reading Beans (talk) 20:18, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- Source: [1]
The Grand Prince is in a rage, choosing allies that will lead him on a path to war and ruin. A wicked demon returns, stronger than ever and determined to spread chaos. Caught at the center of the conflict is Vasya, who finds the fate of two worlds resting on her shoulders.
- Your addition:
On The Winter of the Witch the Grand Prince is angered, he therefore, chose allies that will lead him on a path to war and ruin. A wicked demon returns, stronger than ever and determined to spread chaos. Caught in-between the lines of war, ruins and chaos is Vasya, who finds the fate of two worlds resting on her shoulders.
- Overlapping portions are highlighted in bold. Do you see how that is an unacceptable amount of copying from the source? You need to write the plot descriptions in your own words (and be careful not to avoid close paraphrasing as well). There is a bot that checks for copyright violations, but each case is reviewed manually before action is taken. Similar issues with close paraphrasing at The Girl in the Tower (novel), A Spark of Light, and The Book of Two Ways (novel), by the way. DanCherek (talk) 20:28, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sam Oritsetimeyin Omatseye, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chief. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

For finding knowledge gaps related to African novelists, and making sure that articles exist where they should be! Keep it up! Sadads (talk) 13:20, 6 September 2021 (UTC) |
- Also if you are looking for inspiration, I generated a list of African novels that are also in other language Wikipedias at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticlesNeeded/African novels. At one point I was also going through the Heinemann_African_Writers_Series trying to get at least those covered (since they are so widely internationally taught, because of their European publication. Sadads (talk) 13:41, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sweet! Thank you for this. I have some few list of novels to create and also, this list will help me in creating more articles (instead of thinking) faster. And also, thank you for the recognition. It is very much appreciated. Reading Beans (talk) 14:40, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Totally, I think not having to "find" the articles that need to be worked on is one of the ways that a lot of us make the process of creating content more efficient. The automated list only includes novels that already have a Wikipedia article in another language -- if you remove that criteria there are about 20 more candidates in the SPARQL query. Let me know if you want me to generate that one. Heinemann probably has you covered, though, in terms of enough content to keep you busy, Sadads (talk) 16:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oh yes! That would be more sweet! Reading Beans (talk) 15:07, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

A bowl of strawberries for you!
Hi thanks for creating Esther Montelius which I’ve just reviewed. When translating material from another wiki, it’s important to attribute it properly which we do by adding a translation template to the talk page. You’ll see I’ve done this for you - you can copy this and use it on future articles you create. If you need any help with anything please leave a message on my talk page. Happy editing! Obi Nwakanma moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Obi Nwakanma, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 21:51, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Dandy Jackson Chukwudi
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Dandy Jackson Chukwudi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dandy Jackson Chukwudi. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Creating a page for Africanfuturism is a really good idea!
When I created the page which re-directed to Afrofuturism, I didn't think, at the time, there was enough to support the term as it own page. However, with the sources you have there for that page, its definitely a good start. Even a search I just did pulls up all sorts of results, some of which might be helpful. --Historyday01 (talk) 14:45, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you @Historyday01, the page seems to have been notable from the start. And thank you for creating the redirect in the first place. It has also helped me improve some pages such Third Generation of Nigerian writers. The page can be brought to good article status if a collaborative work is done on it. --Reading Beans 15:20, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, the collaborative work on it is key.--Historyday01 (talk) 15:22, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Proposed deletion / Draftify note
This message is in referenced to the page Petru Sescu, which you proposed for deletion. I moved this page to a draft and removed the proposed deletion. I think this is a better option because the article was clearly not complete, and moving it to a draft gives the author more time to work on it. Also, the author of the page has been active recently. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 19:25, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

I saw your clean up and move at Olusola Momoh. Just wanted to let you know that I moved it to user space because one of the students in my class had submitted at AFC before I assessed for notability. Besides, we were meant to commence article creation next week. She’s one of the precocious ones. Regards!

Ways to improve Prison Stories
Hello, Reading Beans,
Thank you for creating Prison Stories.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
Of the references, the second is hijacked, the third requires registration, the fifth does not reference this book, and last is a primary source. Here is some advice: What is needed are references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

More references are needful for this article. The second reference is an interview: this is a PRIMARY reference. The third citation - the book is not referenced. You need significant coverage for notability. See WP:THREE
