Steeplechase 2013

[edit]

Hi Hahc- Thanks for giving me the Steeplestarter. I just wanted to follow up on if I would be receiving the two main awards for the Steeplechase 2013. Thanks--Godot13 (talk) 17:32, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I forgot about those. Yes, I will try to give them down to you this coming week. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 22:15, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Hahc- When you get a chance I would love to add the Steeplechase awards to my small but slowly growing awards section. Many thanks-Godot13 (talk) 01:47, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hahc21. As my go-to for GA issues, I'm sorry if I am bombarding you. I was wondering if you had time sometime over the next few weeks to take a look at Hubspot. It was declined due to concerns over COI/promo issues and I was told I should let others take over article improvement due to COI issues. In my experience, I am the only experienced editor that takes an interest in marketing topics and it is unlikely anyone else will make quality contributions to it. Additionally, I actually disclosed a former COI from a year ago or so, not a current one. I routinely go back to some of the poor COI edits I made in my early Wikipedia career to bring them more in-line with Wikipedia standards. Anyways, I would like to bring it up to GA still, but no specific content issues were described for me to address... CorporateM (Talk) 23:20, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CorporateM, I think I could take a look after Wikimania :) → Call me Hahc21 18:25, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

GA review

[edit]

Hello Hahc21, I noticed that you are listed at the GA Help Desk as a GA mentor who is interested in video game articles and referencing issues. I'm conducting my first GA review, which is of the article PETA satirical browser games, and if you have some time, I was wondering if you could take a quick look at my review at Talk:PETA satirical browser games/GA1. It's a small article and a brief review, but I'm looking for a second opinion on whether a couple of the sources are reliable, and I'd appreciate any feedback of the review generally as well. Thanks! –Prototime (talk · contribs) 03:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't feel knowledgeable enough outside of articles about specific video games. Genres and thematic articles are a bit hard for me. → Call me Hahc21 18:26, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2014 June newsletter

[edit]

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to Florida 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Murder of Jessica Currin -- Requesting copy of deleted article -- Third time (New section)

[edit]

More than three weeks ago I asked you if I could have a copy of the article Murder of Jessica Curring which I created, which was deleted. You were the closing administrator of the AfD discussion. You answered that you could indeed provide me with a copy but you have yet to provide me with that copy. Could you tell me what's going on? Thanks.

Contact Basemetal here 23:27, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Um. Did you check your email? I emailed you a copy of the article because I am not willing to recreate it on Wikipedia. → Call me Hahc21 23:43, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. I got it. The message went directly to "Junk" for some reason. Sorry about that.
Why are you "not willing to recreate it on Wikipedia" in my user area? What difference does it make? I told you it was just to have an archive of my work. An emailed copy of a deleted article does not have a history, that is the various versions of the deleted article, which is also data.
Could you email me the various versions of the article? With an email copy of only the last version I have no access to data present only in old versions that were subsequently modified and that can differ significantly.
Also, I read somewhere on WP that the creator of a deleted article can get a copy of that deleted article. I'd like to check the implications of that statement. Could you tell me where on WP that is mentioned? I want to look up exactly what WP means by providing a copy of a deleted article.
Thank you for your help.
Contact Basemetal here 11:43, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By copy of the deleted article, it means a copy of the last version of the deleted article. Giving you the entire history, or restoring the article with the entire history, even on your userspace, goes against the consensus achieved at AFD, which is to remove the article and its history from public view. → Call me Hahc21 18:29, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request Edits

[edit]

I was wondering if you had a few minutes to spare to review a fairly small Request Edit to incorporate a major profile story in Sports Illustrated regarding a sabermetrics pro. Thank you for closing the Comic Book DB AfD. I believe 2 pieces of relevant information were lost before its closing though.

1 That article is linked to by more than 500 articles. 2 It is an approved tertiary source according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/References under "Databases, indices, and other such websites". DunDunDunt (talk) 02:12, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

having a source approved doesn't make it notable. It just means that the community thinks it is reliable enough to be used in articles. Also, the link count is irrelevant too. Both points have zero weight towards notability. → Call me Hahc21 08:21, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I never said they added weight to notability... Nevertheless, could the article perhaps get Userfied? I'm going to edit it with a few more sources I recently found. DunDunDunt (talk) 09:23, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have missed the fact that John Jeremiah was also under consideration in this discussion. Could you please delete this article as well? Thanks in advance. Sir Sputnik (talk) 03:32, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FAC advice

[edit]

Hi Hahc,

I see you've gotten yourself some FA's, and was looking to know: About how long on average would you say it takes for successful nominations to be promoted? How long do you recommend working on an article before nomination?? I've only participated in several FAC's so far, and know they can vary, but what would you guess is the average duration? Just curious for when I go for FAC's in the future.

Thanks in advance! SNUGGUMS (talk · contribs) 01:34, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hey! Well it depends. I usually work on short article about indie games, which means that I can have then finished in a week. If everything goes smooth, your article will be promoted in a month or so. If things get nasty, it can take as much as 3 months. My advice is to take an article through GA first, then ask 2 copyeditors to work on it. After that, read it aloud and if you find the text coherent, clear and precise, then it's ready for its first FAC nomination :) → Call me Hahc21 04:38, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you both :). I definitely agree with GA first (and I've brought 6 articles to GA, but none to FA yet), and peer review as well. Crisco, I'm not sure if you remember, but Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (an article we both gave input for at a peer review and its FAC) was promoted to FA a week after its nomination. Probably the quickest promotion I've seen. Will definitely read aloud before nomination, Hahc. SNUGGUMS (talk · contribs) 06:52, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

She was involved in a big drama back in 2006, which ended up at Arbitration. It all had to do (guess) with Giano and some other admins. Let's say she did a number of highly questionable actions, and she then resigned all her bits and left. I don't consider her to be a user in "good standing" with the community, especially since she gave up her permissions under a cloud. → Call me Hahc21 06:42, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template protection

[edit]

Hi, I left the following message at Mark Arsten's talk page back in March. Given his absence can you follow up on this? Thanks.--Wolbo (talk) 19:49, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, last November you protected the template Template:Infobox tennis event/color. As you can see from its history page I used to edit this template a lot (>200 edits), almost always in order to bring the infobox color in line with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards. Now I can no longer do so. I understand the need to protect templates that are widely used and have the potential to wreak havoc if misused or vandalized but this particular template seems pretty low-risk to me. All it affects is the color of the titlebar on the tennis infobox so the worst that can be done is to set a background color that makes the text unreadable. This was the case for a number of tennis tournaments when I started to update them. Given this would it be possible to unprotect this particular template? The alternative is that I apply for template editorship but that seems a bit overkill. --Wolbo (talk) 10:27, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Wolbo. Thanks for contacting me. I have reduced the protection to allow only autoconfirmed users. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 03:29, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Wolbo (talk) 11:15, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Hahc21. I was wondering if you had time to take a look at a Request Edit here to add a History section, create a more neutral Lead that isn't UNDUE with lawsuits, introduce an Align Technology section about the product's manufacturer, and optionally cut out a massive body of OR/synth for medical claims. It should make it almost GA-ready, once I add a more proper section about all the medical studies on the subject.

John Broughton reviewed the draft already, but he typically just provides feedback without actually performing the request edit - he's asked me to only rely on him as a backup for such tasks. CorporateM (Talk) 15:00, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Best known for IP" long term abuse report

[edit]

Just a quick head's up, I have created a long-term abuse report at Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Best known for IP. I can't think of what else to do - the user has not been linked to any accounts and indeed I suspect choses not to use one as it allows them to evade blocks regularly, so going to RFC/U or Arbcom would not be appropriate as you can't (AFAIK) sanction an IP. A while back, you turned off the user's talk page access after multiple unblock requests (needless to say they swapped IPs and carried on), you might be in a good place to advise if this is the correct way to proceed. My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller and video producer for the Wikimedia Foundation. I'll be looking to capture stories about Wikimedians at Wikimania in London in a week. Here is an example of the kind of thing that I'm aiming to do. I saw that you're attending Wikimania and I was wondering if you might have some time to talk about your work on Wikimedia projects. Anyway let me know if you are interested, I'll be at Wikimania from the 6th-10th of August and would need maybe 30 minutes of your time. I can answer any questions you may have. WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

[edit]

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Missing Star

[edit]

Hi there,

About a month ago, 59th Academy Awards, which I nominated, was promoted as a featured list. However, I am missing a star over at List of Wikipedians by featured list nominations. How can this be fixed?

--Birdienest81 (talk) 07:02, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Birdienest81: I think it was a delay in the bot. I can see the star there now. Have you checked again? Sorry for the late reply. → Call me Hahc21 02:28, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Topic ban detail

[edit]

Odd situation over at User_talk:Duxwing#Old_habits - the user was given a topic ban back in April with the condition that "Should the current mentoring relationship end prior to a successful completion, these timeframes will be reset", but it looks like you omitted that clause when filing it at Wikipedia:Editing restrictions and posting it to the user's talk page. The mentoring relationship did end prematurely (the mentor seems to have abandoned Wikipedia two weeks after taking Duxwing on), so which of the two versions should be considered to apply here? --McGeddon (talk) 09:34, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@McGeddon: It is unfortunate that Newyorkadam left two weeks after mentoring kicked off, and Duxwing should have brought the issue immediately to ANI. I'm afraid that he has to do that as soon as possible to find a new mentor. I'd be willing to give him a one-month grace period with a mentor knowledgeable in mathematics and science to assess if he is ready to have the topic ban lifted, or if further improvements are required. However, this agreement must be reached too at ANI. Cheers! → Call me Hahc21 21:03, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good news! My mentor has e-mailed me that he has only reduced his activity and still wants to mentor me. He also wrote that he will post his intention to my Talk page by Friday and that I should remind him should he not. :) Duxwing (talk) 00:40, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Duxwing: That's good news indeed. I know Newyorkadam and I know he does a good job. However, if he fails to come back within a reasonable timespan, I think the best path for you to take is to seek a new mentor. This is in case he fails to come back, which I hope he does. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 00:51, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alpocalypse HD deletion

[edit]

I just found out that you deleted Alpocalypse HD, which I created and I was not notified of it being up for deletion. Considering there wasn't a consensus, since the only person who commented on it was the submitter, I think it was unfairly deleted. If I was notified, I could have looked into making a stronger article. -Joltman (talk) 12:43, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Joltman: Hey. I did boldly delete the article because I assessed that it was, as it was written, not meeting our notability standards. I foresaw that, despite the lack of participation, any participation would have reached the same conclusion. However, I can restore a copy of the article in your userspace for you to expand. Would that work for you? Now, about not being informed: The article was created by a user called Largerthanlife147 ( as a redirect, but the creation log still lists him and not you). He did receive a notification that the article was up for deletion. → Call me Hahc21 22:37, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(cross-posting to Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee/Clerks)

1) For Proposal #1 I count 4 votes: Worm, Seraphimblade, GorillaWarfare, and T. Canens. NativeForeigner voted for this only as a second choice to #1.2 Also, this would seem to indicate Mr. Fuchs might not support a Jimbo page ban. So it would appear the implementation notes are not correct wrt #1.

2) Why does this section say four votes are needed to close the case? There are nine active arbitrators. —Neotarf (talk) 18:01, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Neotarf: The two arbitrators that supported #1 as second choice/with caveats expressed acceptance at both remedies passing together. Usually, the second choice votes have a bigger impact on mutually exclusive remedies, and this was not the case given that both remedies work well together. About your second point, the motion to close is handled with a net-four standard, much like case requests. → Call me Hahc21 21:16, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The "second choice/with caveats expressed acceptance at both remedies passing together" must have been done on some secret mailing list, because I don't see any diffs for it. —Neotarf (talk) 22:39, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In general, second choice votes are counted if the remedies involved are not mutually exclusive. Not all of these details have to be expressed on-wiki, that's what mailing lists are for. In this case, the general rule I outlined above applies, and a discussion took place to make sure this was the intended outcome. Also, the mailing lists used by arbitrators and clerks are not a secret. → Call me Hahc21 23:19, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Hawkeye7 : Thank you for putting everything in a table. I'll award you the Crown this weekend when I tackle all the current noms. → Call me Hahc21 01:37, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Hawkeye7: I'm reviewing this on behalf of Hahc. Your DYK links show that the articles appeared at DYK, but do not actually show they're your DYKs. Would you be willing to provide links to them being awarded to you? The GAs and FAs are far easier to check. Adam Cuerden (talk) 09:53, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I keep them all here. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:41, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll get on that. Adam Cuerden (talk) 21:37, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
DYKs check. Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:11, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
GA check part 1 passed. All were, in whole or in part Hawkeye's work.
GA check part 2 [Still GA or higher?]: Passed. All are still GAs or higher, and none have been demoted and later promoted due to someone else's work.
FA check part 1: [Hawkeye involved?]. Passed with one correction: He linked Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Operation Crossroads/archive1, but should have linked Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Operation Crossroads/archive2
FA check part 2 [Still FA?] Pass.

Conclusion: All good. Suggest awarding Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:18, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I don't need to follow a clarification request, but...

[edit]

Tarc may not edit any administrative noticeboards, nor User talk:Jimbo Wales, aside from the normal exceptions. Does the admin noticeboards like WP:ANI or WP:AN qualify under that? And what are the exceptions in that regard? Thanks. Tutelary (talk) 17:55, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tutelary: Hey there. A detailed clarification can be found here. The concern was brought up at the PD talk page. I gave this reply there: Administrative noticeboards includes any page that is designed to bring a matter to the attention of administrators. In other words: AN, ANI, ANEW. Other non-administrative noticeboards (such as WP:BLPN) are not included in the package. WP:ARCA and WP:AE, however, are included as long as he is not requesting clarification/amendment of these remedies (WP:BANEX). Regarding your second point, I think that aside from the normal exceptions refers to my previous sentence, but I'd ask the committee to clarify if in doubt. → Call me Hahc21 21:34, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Australia Triple Crown

Hey Hahc21. I am nominating my self for the WikiProject Australia Triple Crown. My qualifying articles are:

I understand if your busy and I will be patient. Cheers - NickGibson3900 Talk 06:07, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@NickGibson3900: I'll take care of it soon, I promise! → Call me Hahc21 06:46, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Could you use a hand reviewing some of the nominations? Adam Cuerden (talk) 06:47, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would definitely be much appreciated. Much of my time is sucked checking those, so a bit of help there would significantly improve the process :) → Call me Hahc21 07:34, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Very well, then.

  • Miyagawa: I'd suggest passing it with one change: Switch Talk:HMS Grasshopper (T85)/GA1 for Talk:The Pirates of Orion/GA1 - As you can see, the latter has somewhat better evidence of Miyagawa's participation. Alternatively, we could ask her to document her work on the Grasshopper GA. I have checked the nomination pages for her involvement, and checked every article [etc] to make sure each has kept the status claimed for.
  • NickGibson3900 Suggest awarding Triple Crown. Suggest awarding Australian Triple Crown with Little Athletics as DYK (since it's easier to check his involvement with that one, since he linked to the award in his Triple Crown.)

I'll do Hawkeye as well, but, for obvious reasons, I'll do him a bit later. Adam Cuerden (talk) 09:14, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hawkeye didn't link to anything useful for confirming his DYKs. I mean, I can certainly use those links to see it appeared at DYK, but not to check it's his DYK. Now, I don't think either of us have any doubt that he's honest, but still, the checks are part of the awarding. Adam Cuerden (talk) 09:55, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want me to award things, by the way? Adam Cuerden (talk) 23:46, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've been sick the whole week, but I'll try to award some tonight. Feel free to help me out tomorrow if I did nothing today :) → Call me Hahc21 23:51, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I processed a bunch today. I'm holding off on processing any Timeless one for now, I need to check carefully those, given that the criteria requires a check to see if the articles are still up to standard. → Call me Hahc21 06:02, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And I have reviewed Hawkeye7's above. I'd suggest awarding it ASAP - after that recent clusterfrack with the James Chadwick lead image, I think we should make it very clear that his work is appreciated and valued. Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:43, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, didnt know about that. I'm awarding it now. I got tired and went to bed last night. → Call me Hahc21 17:07, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, all but the Timeless ones are processed now. Thanks, Adam. I'm immensely grateful for your help :) → Call me Hahc21 17:31, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hell in a Bucket

Hello sir. I'm having a very strange issue with user Hell in a Bucket. I noticed you had some history involving him with disruptive edits. I'm experiencing the same thing right now with the page SMH Records that I created. Would appreciate a second party to assist.Sowhatchawant (talk) 19:54, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Hell in a Bucket: Been keeping an eye on this. Just saw the post at WTT's talk page. → Call me Hahc21 11:58, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if that's a warning, a I didn't ignore you or just a hey I'm watching you...either way I still have concerns but as I stated on WTT page I was partly wrong. I have no intention of continuing. I would appreciate a little more clarity though on when it will be considered edit warring because a lot of what I was doing was taking out unacceptable sourcing and promotional bits. I'm concerned to know where the line is so I don't cross it by accident and how not to be bludgeoned over the head with that case every time I do something someone disagrees with. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 14:01, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Hell in a Bucket: Oh no. What I meant is that I am aware of what happened. I see that the matter has been resolved by now. I agree that edit-warring was not the optimal solution but indeed you did it under a reasonable premise. It's not an excuse but it was done under legitimate reasons. I do not consider that it requires severe sanctions, given that this had nothing to do with what was evaluated in the case, in my opinion. Though, and as any other admin would tell you, it would be best to pursue other routes in the future so that you don't end up sanctioned. → Call me Hahc21 21:10, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Landmark Worldwide/Workshop

[edit]

Hello! I made this edit a few minutes ago and I would appreciate your input as a clerk with experience at Arbcom. Specifically, am I submitting that material in the correct place and in the correct format? I went through several past cases and selected what looked like a common form for refuting evidence, but there was quite a bit of variation. Thank you for your time. --Tgeairn (talk) 22:46, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tgeairn: Yup, that's the right place and the right way to do it. However, I have moved your analysis away from the comment by parties section. The "comments" sections are for arbs, parties and other people to discuss on your analysis. Cheers. → Call me Hahc21 23:11, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking so quickly, and for getting it in order. Should I re-title the section (something like "Tgeairn's analysis of evidence presented by Astynax")? Right now, it's not attributed to me. Alternatively, I could change the first-person phrases to third-person. Thanks again, Tgeairn (talk) 23:53, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Update - I changed the name of the section to "Tgeairn's analysis of evidence presented by Astynax" pending any further comment or suggestions from you. Of course, you are free to change it as needed. I'm just proactively making the change as Lithistman noted that it wasn't attributed. Cheers - Tgeairn (talk) 00:39, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

... this, I think you meant to say disclose rather than undisclose. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots05:08, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Thanks for pointing it out. → Call me Hahc21 05:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Kudos. I actually thought it was kind of funny. He might say, "Keep them hidden? Already doing that! No problem!" In truth, it's as plain as the nose on our face that the guy is a sock. Another funny (or maybe sadly pathetic) thing I've observed over the years is that socks often seem to think that nobody has ever tried sockpuppetry before. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots05:49, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Socks are fun in general. It's kind of sad they end up being such a nuisance at the end. I think they are the only ones who could ever believe no one knows they are a sock. It's hilarious. → Call me Hahc21 06:27, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The funniest sock story I can think of is the blunder made by a user called "ItsLassieTime", who was engaged in a debate on ANI, probably around May or June of 2009. The problem with making socks is you have to remember which one you're using. The user made the mistake of speaking in the voice of one user while logged in as another user. Someone picked up on that right away, and then the sockmaster went berserk. Caught with his pants down, as they say. The user turned out to have a sockfarm of considerable size. Moral of the story: Lying requires a lot of work and intense attention to detail. Honesty is much easier. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots06:55, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. And that's exactly why they always get caught. I think it's just too much work for nothing. I think I'll never get tired of dealing with socks, and giving them the proper treatment :) → Call me Hahc21 07:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In the long run, the only way they could avoid detection is to edit on a totally different topic and also totally change their approach. Human nature being what it is, that's probably a very low percentage. If an editor is obsessed with a political subject, for example, how likely are they to come back and edit strictly about flowers or lizards or something, and be polite and civil at all times? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots15:05, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
