The Daily Disambig

FYI, the Daily Disambig (and the toolforge report it relies on) seems to have shut down. --I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 11:20, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, I’m aware. There is a big database update going on. I expect regular service to resume by Monday or Tuesday, probably. R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:57, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

RussBot and fixing double redirects

I'm curious as to one aspect of the bot fixing double redirects. Article "A" is moved to "B" and then is moved to "C", but with the redirect suppressed so that "A" is now a redirect to a red link that was "B". Will the bot be able to fix that and redirect "A" to "C"? Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 05:49, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Nope. That has to be done manually. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 11:09, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. That's what I thought. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 14:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
  • An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.

Technical news

  • The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
  • Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.

Miscellaneous

  • You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
  • Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.
  • Tech tip: When revision-deleting on desktop, hold ⇧ Shift between clicking two checkboxes to select every box in that range.

Dab on Template:Flaglist

Do you know how to disambiguate a link which is using Template:Flaglist? I can't find in the documentation on the template documentation. If you look at the table in 2022 monkeypox outbreak in New York (state)#Cases by county several of the county names link to disambiguation pages - when they should point to specific counties/cities within New York (state). Any help appreciated.— Rod talk 19:37, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

No, I don't; it's pretty opaque. Personally, I would just nuke all the flags per MOS:WORDPRECEDENCE and put plain links to the counties. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:02, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, FYI: [28] and [29] turned working links into red links. Levivich 14:19, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

It is not the bot breaking links. The correct way would be to redirect Alexa Curtis (disambiguation) to Alexa Curtis. With that, you would fool the maintenance bot into thinking did is a correct link and not one to a disambiguation page. But much to my surprise, that page is locked and on a blacklist ([30]). An admin has to create the page, but it is not the bot who is to blame. The Banner talk 14:59, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
The bot shouldn't be turning a working link into a red link, and neither should you. That's basically vandalism, when done intentionally: an edit that is not intended to improve the page. The salting issue is already at AN; in the meantime, leave the working link for the reader. And the bot should have a few lines of code that checks to make sure the pages it links to actually exist. Levivich 15:08, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
And what you are doing is basically editwarring to keep a problem. The Banner talk 16:08, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
Problem solved for now. Although this (title blacklist) is an extremely rare situation, I do need to check the bot's code so that it aborts this type of edit if it fails to create the WP:INTDABLINK redirect. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 20:17, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
OK, I think I found and fixed the issue. Thanks for letting me know about it. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 20:34, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
