Hi - I was hoping to be able to help in a new way, and I wanted to check the updated link progress for Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links. I saw you were the most recent person to do that – how can I check the link total for updating it? Thank you so much!! Henrygg98 (talk) 16:06, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Henry. I have a custom script that does that. I have to trigger it manually. The other option is just to increment the total each time you edit the list. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 00:39, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know if this has come to your attention already. In this edit, your bot changed the hatnote on Sara Josephine Baker to link to the disambiguation title explicitly, when it was actually intended as a link to an article about a specific person. I've just fixed it. While this case is not easy for a bot to handle, it probably should check uses of {{redirect}} and only act if the 'for' parameter is "other uses" or something similar. Maybe flag other wordings for human checking. — Smjg (talk) 11:22, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Well, the problem is that either someone put in a link to the disambiguation page with an erroneous description of it, or the article they were linking to was moved to a different title after they put the link in. Either way, the bot did not change the page that was linked to, and the bot doesn't have AI capabilities to know that the author intended something different. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:00, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Query

Hello, R'n'B,

Would you ever consider updating User:R'n'B/Unused category redirects or User:R'n'B/Empty pages? Or do you know of a database report or bot report that compiles this information these days? I was just following a link from a page I deleted and came across your list of Empty pages and thought it could be useful if brought up-to-date. Thanks and I hope you are well. Liz Read! Talk! 20:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Liz. I could consider the Empty pages list, which ought to be relatively simple (but Special:ShortPages already exists). I must confess that I can't remember what the Unused category redirects list was supposed to be; category redirects are supposed to be "unused" by definition, so I'm not sure what qualified one to be on this list. I'll see if I can dig up anything, but it was so long ago that it's doubtful. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 00:57, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
