Quarl talk

Thankyou for your participation in my RfA. Due to an almost even spread of votes between Oppose and Support (Final (16/13/6)) I have decided to withdraw for now and re-apply in a couple of months as suggested. I thank everyone for their kind support of my editorial skills; it meant a lot to me to get such strong recommendations from my fellow editors. If you ever have any hints as to how I can improve further, I would love to hear from you. ViridaeTalk 15:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

The first and biggest shout-out to your for nominating me. I really appreciated the confidence you showed in my abilities as an editor. If you saw your way fit to nominate me again at a later stage I would be honoured to accept. Thankyou. ViridaeTalk 15:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. I will keep doing what I am doing and try to improve in areas I feel that I lack (copright being a large one) ViridaeTalk 13:05, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Warnings-nav

Template:Warnings-nav has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Neil916 05:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I've tagged it db-author. Quarl (talk) 2006-08-08 10:39Z
Thank you for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (53/2/1). I've spent the day trying out the new tools, and trying not to mess things up too badly :). I was quite thrilled with all the support, both from the people I see around every day, as well as many users who I didn't know from before, yet wrote such wonderful things about me. I look forward to helping to serve all of you, and the project. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. -Goldom ‽‽‽ 04:36, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Quarl!
I've been using www.allmovie.com, www.metacritic.com, and www.imdb.com for information on movie release dates.
I try to double check them with official websites if I can, i've discovered that allmovie.com isn't terribly reliable for older film release dates (e.g: Having "The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari" released in 1919).
:) thanks for the possitive comments.
I'm not terribly sure how to sign these off. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrzejbanas (talkcontribs)

You previously posted on my usertalk that you would be willing to nominate me for adminship. If you still think I'm worthy, I would be willing to accept such a nomination now ;) -- Consumed Crustacean | Talk | 09:40, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Date canonicalization

What's the point? It's just harder to read for those who are unsure whether you meant it to be YMD or YDM format, and it's ugly.

Removal of messages from talk page

I would appreciate it if you would not remove messages from other users from my talk page, even if you disagree with them. Thank you. --Varco 17:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

With what right you remove messages from my talk page??!! Luka Jačov 09:37, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm curious as to why you would edit my talk page to delete a message. Thanks in advance for your reply.--Beth Wellington 18:11, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Beth, Luka, Varco and anyone else whose talk page I reverted: User:Miro.gal was mass-canvassing users he/she believed would agree with his/her viewpoint on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/International_Institute_of_Management; this was a blind categorical action as can be seen by the fact that many of the users he/she targetted had long stopped editing Wikipedia. Canvassing hurts Wikipedia for many reasons. When this action was brought up on WP:AN/I, I responded in the usual manner of undoing the canvassing, although the damage was partly done. I apologize for not previously explaining on your talk page at the time I removed the message. Quarl (talk) 2006-08-15 11:41Z

Thank you for your response. I am still troubled by someone editing my talk page by deletion, rather than by adding a comment. I agree that the tone on the query was problematic, and by the way, I haves seen worse, but I took that into account in my response on the AfD page. I do not think that because someone has the philosphy of inclusion, that constitutes the bias that is referred to in the response above yours.--Beth Wellington 15:59, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

username question

I am not sure what to do when I come across an obscene username so I am going to ask you. There is a user with the username of "Penisjunkie" and I just thought that that username might be inappropriate;however, I am not an admin so I do not know how much I can do regarding the issue. I was just curious and wondering if you could request a name change or block the account because of the name. Thanks a lot and happy editing. Wikipediarules2221 05:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. User:Penisjunkie has already been blocked by User:DVD R W. In the future you can bring it up at WP:AN/I. Quarl (talk) 2006-08-17 05:24Z
Okay, thanks a lot. Wikipediarules2221 05:42, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Your signature

I was wondering if you could remove the custom formatting on the dates in your signature (including the wiki-linking). A lot of archival bots are handling talk pages now, and they only understand the default ~~~~~ syntax, not whatever extra stuff people are adding by JavaScript. As a consequence an archival bot won't recognize the timestamp of when your messages are posted, which could result in the section containing your message being archived almost immediately after you write something because the bot doesn't recognize your comment as recent. --Cyde Weys 16:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

How about I improve Werdnabot or whichever bot needs to look at signature timestamps for archival purposes. Is it open source? Quarl (talk) 2006-08-25 07:25Z
It's not just Werdnabot. And it's really unnecessary to clutter up the What links here in various year and date articles with talk pages. Can't you just use the default syntax? It doesn't seem to be something that should be changed. --Cyde Weys 21:57, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I will remove the linking from the timestamp (which unfortunately will remove date preferences since the two are conflated). Quarl (talk) 2006-09-04 22:04Z
Ok, done. Quarl (talk) 2006-09-04 22:07Z

Quarl for your Support!
I I feel truly humbled & honored by your support in my RfA, which closed at 90 / 5 / 0. Thank you! If you need me for anything, just say the word. For now however, just like Mr Potter here:
My mop & I shall thwart all evil :)
IThank you once again my friend. GIen

PS: YES YOU'RE RIGHT HARRY POTTER USES A BROOM! (BUT GOOD MOPS ARE HARD TO FIND!!)

Tech OCP was originally founded in 1996 and ran as a technology newsletter in Tennessee. We even own the Business name Tech OCP, LLC in the state of Tennessee and have since 1998. It was not until recently we decided to bring Tech OCP online and an actual TV station broadcasted here in TN. Just because you may know about the "online, fake world" doesn't mean your knowledge is vast enough to know about real world factors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TechOCP (talkcontribs)

Thanks so much for your support on my RFA, which closed successfully this morning with a result of (64/3/3). I will be stepping lightly at first trying to make sure I don't mess up too badly using the tools. Any further advice/guidance will be gratefully accepted. I hope I will live up to your trust! Thank you for your support of my RfA, which has passed with a final tally of 76/1/1. With this overwhelming show of support and approval I am honored to serve Wikipedia in the task charged to me and as outlined in my nomination. Happy editing to you! Teke (talk) 17:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Licensing of JavaScript scripts

I came across your large number of MediaWiki JavaScript scripts via User:Omegatron/monobook.js. Some of them would be excellent additions to the main codebase; would you be willing to license them under the GPL? —Simetrical (talk • contribs) 20:04, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, they are already released under GPL at http://svn.cubewano.org/repos/wikipedia/trunk/wikipedia/scripts/. Quarl (talk) 2006-08-30 19:56Z
