Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Quarl/Archive 2005-12! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan 09:30, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Proposed merge rationale?

The proposed merge of Scientology and the legal system and Scientology versus The Internet doesn't make obvious sense. Could you please put something about your rationale on the talk page? Thanks :-) - David Gerard 14:40, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps you would consider doing this

I've made a suggestion on Talk:Shouting_fire_in_a_crowded_theater about changes related to another article and which I don't feel compentent to do myself. Perhaps you'd consider it? Puck 01:09, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I've reverted your blind reversion of this article. If you have any objects to my version, please let me know rather than just reverting it. NicM 21:07, 19 December 2005 (UTC).

Oops! Sorry, I accidentally edited an old revision (was browsing User:Kzzl's contributions) -Quarl 21:12, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, no worries, I thought it may have been something like that :-). NicM.

Farasoo

Should the article FARASSOO International not be speedy deleted? It is copyvio and repost of FARASSOO? -localzuk 13:03, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Afd nominations for multiple articles

When making afd nominations for multiple articles, it's usually more robust to create a redirect from e.g. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Elk Hotel to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Skye Thorstenson instead of editing the afd notice on the article. There are a couple reasons why:

  • If the article's author removes the afd notice, things don't break if someone else just puts back {{subst:afd}} instead of properly reverting;
  • If the article is re-created after deletion, or brought up at Deletion review, it's easier to find the proper afd discussion.

If you do edit the afd notice directly, please don't remove the "|this article's entry" piped link, since its presence allows bots (like my own) to automatically analyze the articles to ensure they're listed properly. —Cryptic (talk) 15:33, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the polite explanation. I changed it per your recommendation. --Quarl 23:18, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
BTW, I never liked "this article's entry" as the text of the link; it's almost as bad as "click here" (see [1]) --Quarl 23:18, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome,

glad I could help!--ViolinGirl 23:33, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

same here. -localzuk 13:40, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

the AfD for Gunk Land

LHF is apparently coming back with sockpuppets; they're reverting the AfD regularly. Unfortunately, despite how blatantly bad faith their edits are, I know that if I go over three reverts, I'll be written up at WP:AN/3RR. Can you keep an eye on the AfD and revert the personal harassment from LHF and his socks? -- Antaeus Feldspar 18:16, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

re: reversions

thank you Quarl. i very much appreciated your unbiased POV and assistance on this situation. Lostheadfactory

Again - thanks- and have a Happy New Year! :)

OrphanBot issue

See this edit: [2].

The image tag wasn't on a line by itself. By changing that to <!-- Unsourced image removed: Image... -->, it broke the formatting. You should change OrphanBot to add a newline as necessary, for example if you are using a regular expression, replace "[[Image:(.*?)]]\n?" with "<!-- Unsourced image removed: $1 -->\n" --Quarl 08:32, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The problem with simply adding a newline is that it will break things in cases like the "Pokemon currency symbol", where an image was used within a line of text. I'm going to try modifying the regex to also match any non-newline whitespace after the image link and see if that fixes the problems. --Carnildo 10:19, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
