I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi PuppyMonkey. Thank you for your work on Ravyn. Another editor, Voorts, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Please remember to tag redirects that you create per WP:REDCAT. An easy to use redirect user script is User:Eejit43/scripts/redirect-helper.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Voorts}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

@Voorts: For future people who see this, I normally start an article by searching for a title and then clicking the red link. But to access the script you need to open the article as if it already exists in "wiki/ARTICLE_TITLE". The script is separate from the Source and Visual editors. PuppyMonkey (talk) 19:20, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can also click "Redirect page" in the Tools bar under "Actions", even on a redlinked page, to use the script. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:23, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Voorts: I think that part of the Tools only appears once the page has been created. Maybe I have to restart my browser. PuppyMonkey (talk) 19:27, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're right. I usually just hit the escape key and use the tool. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:54, 9 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alt= text

[edit]

Alt= text is primarily for visually impaired readers who use screen readers per WP:ALT. Regarding your wording changes on Imaginal Disk, using the name of the person in the image is not helpful to a visually impaired person, who wouldn't know what Mica Tenenbaum looks like, nor maybe who she even is at that stage of the article. Her name doesn't communicate what the image depicts—a woman whom is bare-chested, which is preferable as it is descriptive rather than just a name. If you disagree with my revert, please start a thread on the article talk page per WP:BRD. Thanks. Ss112 02:10, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Suicide, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 12:47, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PuppyMonkey, you need to take a moment to assess how cavalier your editing is. If you do not tighten up such that you're trying to write what sources say or something compatible with what editors are also trying to say with sources—rather than whatever you feel like, as is seemingly the case presently—you're unfortunately being far too disruptive, and it is far too much of a problem for any good it is doing. I have never seen you cite or reference a single source while messing around with article leads. Please stop. Remsense ‥  01:57, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Middle-earth articles

[edit]

Hi, I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve by editing the (conspicuous) lead sections of various high-profile Middle-earth articles, nor that the results are beneficial in any way. The sections have been carefully written, and checked by many editors, over the past 20 years or so, and while they are no doubt not perfect, they are definitely serviceable.

One thing that may be relevant is that the articles are in British English (like all Middle-earth articles). This obviously differs slightly in spelling from American English, but more importantly it also differs in diction, the way that sentences are read out. British diction differs quite markedly from American in where the stresses fall in a sentence (as within words too). To match that, sentence construction, including punctuation and use of a variety of small words like definite articles, is distinctly different in British English. It may well be that you are (unconsciously?) trying to make (parts of) these articles more American, more congenial to the American ear, perhaps: but that is directly contrary to Wikipedia policy.

In addition, the lead section is intended as a quick, brief, and above all simple overview of the article to first-time readers. They will not be able to pick up subtle clues, nor should they be expected to. The idea is not to say everything, provide every caveat and technical detail. They need a clear, broad-brush picture. If Tolkien introduced some subtle change in the second edition – that is not a matter for the lead section.

All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:54, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In case you are reading this, @Chiswick Chap, I guess the language came off dry or archaic, but you may be right and I didn't consider the point of British word flow. I felt the lede was missing details, and I filled in some dates. My copy didn't match exactly with the first edition, and so I was trying to find out where the discrepancy lied. I'll try being a bit more careful and consider my purpose more. PuppyMonkey (talk) 20:08, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about reverting your edits at Gravity (disambiguation). It was absolutely unintentional fat-fingered stupidity on my part. Cheers! —ShelfSkewed Talk 20:17, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
