Your GA nomination of OXO

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article OXO you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Second opinion on Shantae

I noticed that Shantae became a Good Article recently but I'm not sure if it meets the criteria for the status. I'm thinking about taking it to GAR but I want to hear a second opinion on the articles current condition. Can you take a look at it? GamerPro64 23:25, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

@GamerPro64: Hmmm, it's a little... light, I guess; both the gameplay and reception just don't have as much content as I would expect, even for a 2002 platformer. And there's definitely quite a few grammar problems; even skimming it I got tripped up by some sentences that wandered off from the direction they started in. Maybe instead of a GAR, do an informal one on the talk page? And if the original nom doesn't respond favorably, take it to real GAR. --PresN 17:29, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup 2016: Game On!

We are about to enter the second week of the 2016 WikiCup. The most recent player to sign up brings the current total to 101 contestants. Signups close on 5 February. If you’re interested, you can join this year's WikiCup here.

We are aware that in some areas the scoring bot’s numbers are a little bit off (i.e., overly generous) and are working to have that corrected as soon as possible.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:03, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Hey. The discussions there are still active. We just sorted the last few problems one day prior to you closing the thread. Could you please reverse that closure? Rehman 00:50, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

@Rehman: Feel free to renominate- there's no waiting period. But unfortunately, even though you addressed The Rambling Man's concerns, the nomination had been up for two months without a single support vote, much less the three or four we usually look for. If you renominate, you can ask the previous reviewers if they wouldn't mind revisiting the list and its new nomination. --PresN 01:15, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
I understand your points. But that is just a whole load of unnecessary work. There was no response to the nomination for the first whole month anyway (due to the holiday season I guess), so we cant consider the first month. And the reviewers did mention that they'd support once the issues are dealt with, which was completed just the day prior to the day you closed the thread. I intend to reopen the same nomination later today, please voice if you are clearly against me doing that. No hard feelings. Regards, Rehman 03:20, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Ignore me please. My revert has been reverted, so I will stop there and follow your suggestion. Rehman 07:31, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Draft importance

Do you think we need to mark draft importance in {{WPVG}}? I think it might be better to have the template drop the importance field when the article is a draft (and the template can detect when it's in draftspace so it wouldn't need to be specified) czar 23:07, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

@Czar: Agreed; I only set it to low because otherwise it gets stuck in unassessed. If it could get auto-set to NA that would be better. --PresN 01:53, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure NA is appropriate myself. Seems to me that we could end up with NA-assessed pages for drafts moved into the mainspace, which is not a good thing. --Izno (talk) 15:55, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
What's nice about auto-assigning "NA" to drafts and auto-detection of draftspace is that when the article moves into mainspace, its classification immediately becomes unassessed in both quality and importance, rather than remaining as "draft"/X importance until someone manages to find it. czar 16:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Dropping a Mana orb...

Since you're pretty involved with the Mana series, I thought I should drop a line here. Just for the heck of it, I'm creating an article for the soon-to-be-deceased mobile/Vita game Rise of Mana. I'm not planning on doing anything more with it beyond the article's creation, so the rest is up to you if you're interested in creating a new Mana GA. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:35, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Superfly discography

Oh dear! I didn't actually notice the January 23 comments by MPJ-US for Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Superfly discography/archive1! Would you be able to hold off on the closing while I get a chance to address the comments? --Prosperosity (talk) 06:19, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

@Prosperosity: Unfortunately, even if you had addressed the concerns and gotten MPJ-US to support, the nomination still wouldn't have been complete enough to not get archived at the 2 month pseudo-cutoff point, and at this point I've already closed it. The best thing to do going forward would probably be to address MPJ-US's points, then renominate the list (there's no waiting period), and contact MPJ-US and the other supporter and ask them to support the second nomination. It would get the nomination started off on a good foot, and get it passed more quickly. --PresN 15:37, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind, I decided to take some of your excellent user page design and adapt it for my own. WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by Connecticut Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by Denmark MPJ-DK (submissions), Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), and New South Wales Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by There's always time for skeletons Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with Lancashire J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Kingdom Hearts Coded (coded)

It is properly lowercase, but style wise should be uppercase? I think it's getting moved back, but the GAN is still ongoing, it will probably be a while before anyone gets to it anyway, what with the backlog and all! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:57, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: I... honestly don't know. Looks like: (WP:TITLETM) "Article titles follow standard English text formatting in the case of trademarks, unless the trademarked spelling is demonstrably the most common usage in sources independent of the owner of the trademark. Items in full or partial uppercase (such as Invader ZIM) should have standard capitalization (Invader Zim)". So, Coded, not coded, and the article should follow that, I guess. Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Galaxy Game does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! IagoQnsi (talk) 20:55, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

@IagoQnsi: WP:Don't template the regulars. It's incredibly rude to come up to someone who's writing an article and been here for a decade and slap them with a template rather than actually say something to them. --PresN 21:00, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
Apologies -- when I'm recent change patrolling, I end up needing to ask people to use edit summaries very very frequently, so I tend to get a bit lazy. I'll be careful about using that template on more experienced editors (at some point I'll probably write my own template that's much shorter and doesn't sound so condescending for experienced editors). Cheers, IagoQnsi (talk) 21:06, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

GAs by time

Hey PresN, do you know of a way to generate a list of recent project GAs by date of reassessment? I thought there'd be something in https://tools.wmflabs.org/enwp10/cgi-bin/table.fcgi?project=Video_game but I can't appear to sort by GA date. czar 17:53, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

@Czar: I do not, no... looks like the only data kept around is the "present" status, not the historical status changes. Went poking, but I don't see anything anyone else has used- the old GA sweeps just took a oldid of the main GA page and reviewed everything that was linked there. Getting an in-order list of ours might be a bit of work, but if you just want the "oldest 50" or whatever then an old snapshot of our GA subpage plus a link class highlighter script can get you a rough approximation. What were you planning on using the data for? --PresN 18:02, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Oh, you said recent, not oldest, right. That's what I get for not getting enough sleep last night... anyways, yeah, still no dice, though I do try to be clear and descriptive in the WPVGGA history, not everyone uses clear summaries. --PresN 18:04, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks—that might be the best it's getting for now. I started a thread: Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Index#Sort by quality date. I've been less diligent about my watchlist lately, so just wanted to see what kinds of things have recently interested the project. czar 18:11, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
@Czar: Uh, duh, I'm eve more tired than I thought. All WPVG GAs sorted by reverse date: google sheet. --PresN 19:16, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi PresN. Please see this, which I had posted almost a month ago. It just seems like there are no folks who are interested in this topic, but for those who had commented, I had taken the appropriate action. There are no concern left unresponded. It seems rather pointless to open a FL discussion, only to be forcefully closed due to lack of comments. If you see archive1, that too was closed because of inactivity. I've put in a lot of effort making that page. Perhaps you could help promote it, rather than close its discussion as no action? Your help in this is much appreciated. @Rehman: I'm really very sorry; I know that having a nomination closed is infuriating. It's happened to me several times, and it's not fun. But the fact remains, that in order to be promoted as a featured list (and it's the same for articles, pictures, etc.- any featured process) a nomination doesn't just need to have no one opposing, but needs people to actively support. It's not the job of the FLC director/delegates to help promote a list- at any time there's 30-40 nominations at FLC, and if we tried to actively boost all the nominations to get promoted, it would quickly exhaust all four of us and result in the queue ballooning to dozens more nominations at once, making even more lists fall through the cracks. The current system is not ideal, but without more reviewers there's a limit to what we can do. That said, two points:
  • There was one concern left unresponded- NortyNort said "The layout of the list is similar to Electricity sector in Sri Lanka and seems to duplicate that article purpose in areas.", and you made no note of why that concern was not valid.
  • It's unpleasant to note, but for "niche" lists the nominator needs to be more active in order to get enough reviews. Both in regards to pestering reviewers to come back- it had been two months since the two reviewers on your list had commented, and if you had pinged them again they would likely have come back to review some more or support. It's unfortunately necessary to poke reviewers several times in order to get them to make up their minds and finish the review. Additionally, it is often helpful to review other FLCs, even leaving more reviews than you want to get back, because a) the more total reviews at FLC, the fewer options for other reviewers that are not your list and b) people are more likely to review lists by people they remember reviewing their list- even if you don't mention it explicitly, like Calvin999 did on your nomination, they do often feel a small obligation.
It's not a fair system at times, I agree, and it's one that occasionally takes more effort from the nominator than is ideal, but it is the system we have at present. If you have any ideas for how we can improve the FLC process, feel free to note them at WT:FLC, or bring them up with any of the coordinators. --PresN 00:05, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi Rehman. I can only echo PresN's comments, I'm afraid, particularly the last one - that it's not a fair or ideal system. I find it frustrating seeing good copy going through without sufficient comment from others. The only thing I can suggest is to go back over the previous FLCs, make sure each and every point is dealt with, re-list at FLC and then post neutral messages on the talk pages of all those who previously commented on both the previous nominations. Please also drop me a note and I will endeavour to undertake a review as well. - SchroCat (talk) 15:43, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Hi PresN and SchroCat. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain. You're right, the system is not perfect. I will follow your advises and nominate again in a couple of weeks, after re-reviewing the list myself again. I apologize if my comments earlier sounded harsh; I was a bit frustrated. Best regards, Rehman 13:46, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Monsters

Great job tag teaming that article! Not stubs for us! A few other things; I am willing to archive all of that featured lists' refs if you can fix the plot summaries of the featured articles when you get a chance. I'm not great with summarizing plots, and if we did that the FA's/FL's would be cleanup tag free for the first time... Ever! Also, I just tagged two articles that were under our Final Fantasy category, should probably be merged/deleted. I also found a bunch of songs under our categories, but I assume they are not under our scope at present and did not add our Wikiproject tag. Finally, great job on the video game history articles! They will make a great Topic very soon! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:24, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: if you're willing to make a go of finding archives that actually have the release dates they originally did, best of luck to you; I've been putting it off for literally years. I'll get to the plot summaries this week if possible. Ugh, I hate finding out that we were missing articles that existed; the artbook might be salvagable, though the novelization almost certainly isn't. Yeah, I think we have a precedent that songs by real artists released on their "normal" albums/EPs, as opposed to video-game specific songs that only appear on video game albums, don't get covered by WPSE. I know that even "My Hands" and "Passion" (Utada Hikaru song), both GAs, don't get covered, we're consistent on that. And yeah, thanks! I'm pretty proud of the history articles, at this point I've written literally every article on pre-1970 video games we have, and I figure I might try to keep moving that line forwards once I finish the topic. Great job yourself on getting all those cleanup tags- and props for not taking the easy way out and neglecting to tag the deadlinks we weren't tracking before as well! --PresN 02:35, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
So just for clarity, the dead refs are still accurate, so if I restore them the article is still in FL shape? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:42, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Yes, all I meant is that it seems like a lot of the archives for gamespot release pages seem to now only have the US release date, and no longer also the JP and PAL release dates, so you have to pay attention to what the archive page actually contains. --PresN 17:44, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Good Article Cleanup

So, I was wondering if you could look at the more strange technical cleanup tags (Inconsistant format, no Wikidata category). You seems to possess the skill to knock those out at your convenience. Then, we can work on getting those early FFVII sales figures recited and put out the dumpster fire that is Dragon Quest :-) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:01, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: I'll take a look at them when I can. And yeah... not a pretty picture. Whatever happened to Jinnai? :( --PresN 19:05, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

I'd appreciate it if...

..,You didn't accuse me of WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT erroneously. Let's see here ... this was the result of an editor violating their WP:SITEBAN ... I did this since some editor decided to revert the merge. Somehow, in the midst of all this, you decided to accuse me of not "liking" something when I clearly didn't actually care what happened, but was rather ensuring that 1) a ridiculously adamant WP:SITEBAN-ned editor was having their ban enforced and 2) information did not get lost amongst some editors deciding to revert the merge. In addition, you clearly reinstated the merge after I restored the content at the redirect since the merge was reverted. So, you may want to next time get all your evidence-proven facts straight before you go about accusing editors of things. Thanks. Steel1943 (talk) 22:09, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

@Steel1943: Alternately, the list was AfD'd as merge, and when someone redirected it you reverted them for a siteban vio- sure, multiple interpretations, they didn't actually merge the content and you didn't want to do it yourself, no worries. Except that when Czar actually did the merge again proper a couple weeks ago, you reverted it again and recommended that they take it to AfD. When I re-redirected and reinstated the content at the target today, you reverted again, and again didn't check to see if the content was there at the target first. Yes, perhaps I was too hasty in accusing you of willfully ignoring things, but it does seem like you had a string of inattentive edits to the list- exacerbated by the fact that they only reason I even noticed the list is because when you reverted Czar you didn't bother to revert his talkpage edit, so it was classified as a redirect. I'll try to be less hasty in accusing editors of ignoring consensus if you in return maybe try to pay more attention to what you're reverting? --PresN 23:03, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Fair enough, except per what I read above, one detail in your deduction may have been overlooked which I provided a different for above: I did not perform the revert to remove the merger material from the game article; I only reverted Czar's edit after I saw that done. But, then again, I do see what mean: In retrospect, I probably should have reverted Niwi3's edit instead of Czar's, then this confusion/incident referenced between us probably would have never happened. My apologies. Steel1943 (talk) 01:27, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

FNC followup

Hey, remember when you drew out that inconsistency on the talk page for Development of Final Fantasy XV (many thanks, by the way. Got carried away with myself)? I've done some digging around, and found something that seems to clear the matter up a bit. It's in an interview Tabata gave Famitsu. When he was asked about whether XV retained the mythos and deities of Fabula, Tabata said (rough translation): At this stage, the mythology is not strongly intertwined with XV and we have created a "set for XV" (not entirely sure how to translate this bit). It (the game's lore) doesn't come out as the Fabula myth, but [Fabula] is alive as a "base". As I said, a loose translation. You can check for yourself here if you like. I'd like your frank opinion on the matter. The Japanese text you want is this;

Sorry if this just seems annoying to you, but I'd like other opinions on this, and a second attempt at translation as my Japanese-to-English is hardly perfect. And if the game was removed, I'll be more than happy to adjust the games articles' accordingly. --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

@ProtoDrake: not annoying at all! My interpretation of the above statement, when combined with the other, vague statements, is:
  • There is a "set of FFXV", which is not intended to be a big deal like the "polymorphic content" of CompOfFFVII or especially FFXIII/FNC, but just a shared background setting for e.g. FFXV, the anime, the movie, etc. It doesn't sound like there's an official name like "Set of FFXV", I think he's just referring to all the FFXV-related projects as a "set" or "group" of projects.
  • The setting for FFXV (and it's related projects) is still loosely based off of the FNC world-building (aka crystals! Everywhere!), but is not itself actually the FNC setting/mythology anymore- they didn't make a clean break with an entirely new setting, but they did change a bunch of stuff from the original FNC base that was in Versus XIII so as to make something new. Therefore...
  • FFXV and related properties are not in the FNC series. They would still fit in a "related games" section of a template, but FNC itself is "the FFXIII project" (plus, you know, FF Type-0), and when FFXV became a main numbered title it stopped being a part of the FFXIII project.
I'm pretty sure the reason they haven't given a direct, clear statement is that they don't want to straight up admit that the FNC metaproject fizzled out- Versus stopped being in the project, Type-0 dropped the XIII from the name, and the brand itself never took off. To say that "FFXV is not a part of FNC" is to admit that the FNC project is dead and didn't live up to their hype/expectations...and then they have to have a discussion about whose fault that is. It feels like a Japanese company thing, saving face so as not to have to throw anyone under the bus. --PresN 15:17, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
A convincing argument, and I agree that FNC was a rather tragic trainwreck (SQEX have openly stated that their seventh-gen projects were a haphazard bunch), but then there's this English source from around the same time. It certainly states that the connection was greatly reduced, reinforcing his rather vague statement above, but not that it was removed. ..... This has turned into quite the little pantomime one way and another. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:26, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
PS: If I sound like I'm arguing, I apologise. I'm not meaning to, really. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:37, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Ugh... what a mess. Yeah, that source seems pretty clear that "it's still FNC, but we're not going to use the FFXIII-specific language so as not to limit our audience", which is not what he's said elsewhere in so many words. It's actually one of the most clear sources, since the interviewer straight up said that it was part of FNC and Tabata didn't contradict him. Hmm....
A gray area to be sure. I guess this is how I feel now that I've read that:
  • FFXV's background is certainly based on FNC- to what extent it's FNC with different terms vs. heavily modified, it's not clear. This is a little screwy, though, given that they've never been clear on what the actual core of FNC was, besides crystals and fighting against fate/indifferent gods, which makes it seem like they could change a ton and still be in the mythology. I think it's completely fair to say that, no matter what, FFXV is "related" to the FNC mythology, and therefore the series.
  • It is, of course, less clear if it is in FNC despite using at least bits of its mythology- SE doesn't use FNC branding anywhere in relation to FFXV, which is a point against it, but they don't say that it's not FNC any more, and it certainly was at one point in dev, even after the name change (as per the FFDream source, which explicitly says that he verified the status "a few months ago", which was post-internal name change).
So, now that I've taken more time to think about it, I think that the root problem is that the answer depends on how you look at FNC: Wikipedia seems to view it as a "concept", with a mythos, etc, which things can still be a part of- an idea more than anything. FFXV can still be a part of it, then, even if the term itself never appears again in an interview or ad, because it uses that concept in a real way. If you instead look at FNC as primarily a marketing brand that has some concepts/styling associated with it, then FNC can't be a part of it because the brand is dead. I think that's what we're debating- is it enough to be "based on" the FNC concept and therefore be a part of it, or does SE need to explicitly say it's part of the marketing brand, which as I say above they won't say one way or another.
So, I'm going to change my vote a bit from the above- FFXV certainly was at one point a part of the brand, and is still related to and based on the FNC concept. The articles focus on the concept over the marketing brand, and therefore, FFXV should stay in the FNC article, and call itself part of the FNC collection. in prose we should be more nuanced- that the branding status is unclear primarily due to the decreased visibility of the FNC brand, and the lack of a clear statement by SE or the developers that it is still more than just "connected" to the mythos.
Sorry, that was a lot of words to talk myself into a new position. I deleted a bunch too, it took me a bit to figure out what the actual problem was. Does that all make sense? --PresN 16:17, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it made sense. Thanks for the opinion. Having gone through staff comments on the matter, I think FNC was always designed as a concept tied to a mythos that could be interpreted to any degree by various directors/producers: to echo one of your above statements, it's a very Japanese thing, only this time it's the way they handle narrative and thematic connections. On top of that, various journalists labelled FNC as a brand despite staff describing it as otherwise. It should be quite easy adjust the articles to that effect now. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:32, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
@ProtoDrake: Awesome, glad we've finally reached a verdict of sorts! Also glad you don't have to go through and rip apart a whole series of articles. --PresN 16:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Question

Sorry to bother you, your probably busy, but I had a question I thought you could answer. I finally got around to making a Pony Friends 2 article, and as expected RS has been pretty thin. However, there was the original Pony Friends and there have been at least two more horse pet simulators from the same publisher. If all of that could go in one article, that would probably be enough, but what would I call it? "Pony Friends (series)"? "Pony (video game series)"? Or perhaps do "Pony Friends" and include all the sequels in that one article... so far I think that last one is the best. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:02, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: "Pony Friends" - disambiguations should be as minimal as possible, and dependent on namespace collisions. There is currently nothing at "Pony Friends", so a series article would go there, even if the first game would theoretically have the same name- were one to be split off, you could move articles around then, but should not beforehand. If something existed at that name, "(series)" would be the disambiguator, there being no other Pony Friends series to conflict name-wise. If and only if there was something at "Pony Friends" and also at "Pony Friends (series)" (like, a TV series or something) would you expand it out to "(video game series)". --PresN 21:16, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

It would be great to hear from you at the WP Video Games discussion on recent GAN Reviews. Sounds like many are open to in some way amending the process. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:26, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

From this edit, does the Video games project now put all drafts into the NA importance category? While I understand that for redirects, templates maybe (some use ratings), categories and files, I'd think that drafts would want to be classified based on where they would go in the future in mainspace. Looking at something like Category:Draft-Class United States articles, I don't expect any high or top pages there but either way, it doesn't matter to me but it seems mighty odd. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 19:35, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

@Ricky81682: Yes, WPVG is going with having all Drafts as Draft-class, NA-importance, and not trying to rate the importance of not-really-articles that almost by definition don't explain why they are important. Template talk:WikiProject Video games#NA priority for drafts. This has the advantage that if you just have an empty WPVG tag on the talk page, if you move the draft to article space it goes into unassessed/unknown, and so gets flagged for someone to look at it, which we're pretty good about getting to within a day. --PresN 19:45, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Baer Patents

Hey,

Saw the comment on one of your latest Odyssey edits and wanted to offer a little insight. A lot of people do assume that the lawsuits were filed over the very concept of a video game, but that would be far to over broad a ruling and is not how Philips won all of those patent suits. In the details of the patent, Baer outlines a system in which 1. dots are generated on a screen through a video signal 2. these dots can collide with each other and 3. when these dots collide, one of them moves off on a new vector. Point 3 is the reason why Computer Space did not infringe upon the patent, but all those ball-and-paddle games did. Likewise, when Activision was sued, they were sued only for certain games like Ice Hockey rather than the whole lineup. Nearly every company sued fought the lawsuit because they knew they used different technology and methods than Baer and thought certain they would therefore not be held liable, but they all lost because they created games in which two dots collided and one moved off on a new vector. Baer goes into detail on this in one of the video game history books for which he provided a foreward or afterward or some such. I forget which one off the top of my head, but I can pass that info along later if you like. Indrian (talk) 18:45, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

@Indrian: I'm sure I'll find it when I go looking, right now I was just building out the section based on Replay/videogamehistorian/one of Baer's writeups, and plan to go back and get more precise with the language with more in-depth sources. For all that people keep bumping up the rating on the talk page, even the sections I've worked on still have a lot of work to go. This pass was just clearing up that Sanders/Magnavox didn't first sue Atari in 1982 along with Mattel, and clean up the nebulous timeline of lawsuits besides, and also trying to work in that both sides knew that Pong was based on Table Tennis but they were fine with it until they weren't. Have to say though, that patent is both less basic and more narrow than I expected for "the founding video game patent". --PresN 19:14, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

How do I fix this error? I see it a lot. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 15:02, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: While technically it's not always an error, usually it is. Taking Koichi Sugiyama as an example: down at the bottom of the article, there is {{Official website|http://sugimania.com/newsugi.html}}, which says "here's the official website; override whatever wikidata says with this one". The Wikidata item for the page (on the left sidebar) has an "official website" section, with "http://sugimania.com/" as the website. In this case, they're different, and the wikidata one is correct. The way to fix it in this case is to change the template on the article to just be {{Official website}}. Sometimes, for games, it can be more complicated if there's different official websites for different languages, but the answer is then to make the wikidata section have the right one for English, mark it as for English, and make the article's template just {{Official website}}. The category won't go away until there's no parameters in the Official website template. --PresN 15:20, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Been wondering what to do about those, i wish these minor errors would show up in our weekly report and I wouldn't have to hunt for them all :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 15:33, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Question for the Master of Lists

I am working on tearing apart the Sqaure Enix article, and one section seems to need a table. Square Enix Subsidiaries Are there any that you would recommend I use as a template to create one? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

I think I know how it should look too: studio name, location, what they do, date opened, date closed, and a template space for a reference to go. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:05, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer! I think I was able to figure it out, feel feel to look at it at Square Enix and see what you think. :) Congrats on Computer Space, a new Good Topic! Retro never had it so good. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 01:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Lately my brain is fried from these GA's :) I was wondering if you could look over this Top priority article for copy editing, I think it needs some rewriting. It might be close to keeping its GA status if it gets one. Thanks either way! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:32, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for all the help! The article is so very close now to keeping its GA status... I'll have to find another Barnstar.... :). by the way, 16 citations needed left in Square Enix, I'm slowly whittling it down, perhaps you could see if there are any easy ones there. The article Magnavox Odyssey you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Uncharted media, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Single. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey, want to review this Good Article nomination? Almost at majority GA/FA/FL! Let me know if you want to/can/have time. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:21, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: I'll hit this up this week, if it doesn't attract someone before then. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. --PresN 01:30, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
Could you also do a new chart for June for the SE Wikiproject? Want to see how are efforts look! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:37, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I think this can now finally be closed as passed? :-) Rehman 14:25, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

@Rehman: one of the delegates will get to it when they have a chance. That said, not yet- while it will likely pass soon, right now only Dudley Miles has supported. Try to get Vensatry to come back and support, now that their last objections are fixed. The nomination has gotten a source review that appears to be finished even if Imzadi never actually explicitly said so, so I'd like to see at least one more review of the final version of the list before promoting. That said, if the nomination makes it down to the bottom of the pile without getting it, I'll review it myself. I expect that the nomination will be promoted this time, just be patient. :) --PresN 14:32, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I've also pinged both of them. Lets see how things goes. Cheers, Rehman 14:59, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Mortal Kombat: Deception

Thanks for removing that. My desire was wondering whether the article could be of mid-importance since it is considered by many to be first fighting game with online mode.Tintor2 (talk) 20:29, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

@Tintor2: It could be bumped up to Mid for that, though I'll note that the article says only that online functionality "had yet to become common for console fighting games". --PresN 20:36, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
So where can I put a request to see if it can become a Mid or not? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 00:34, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
@Tintor2: You can just change it yourself, no one really monitors or worries about the importance ratings beyond maybe (maybe) Top. --PresN 04:26, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Music Parasite Eve

Can you help me figure out the first two GA review questions answers? Should all or none of the albums have track listings? And should all, none, or one of the albums have images? And if just the 3rd Birthday image, how do I justify that one? Thanks!! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 23:30, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi,

Could you apply edition filter on Geographical centre of Earth please? It seems some vandals try to damage this article.

Yours sincerely.

--Bermanya (talk) 19:21, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

@Bermanya: Done, looked like several different IP addresses so I just protected the page for a week. In the future, if you need help, it may be faster to make a post at WP:ANI, rather than an individual's talk page. --PresN 19:26, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

This has a weird url error, do you know what's going on? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 00:34, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

@Judgesurreal777: looks like the CS1 template didn't accept a '.doc' as a valid url end; that said, tacticsogre.com is a non-RS fansite, so I've reverted the whole addition. --PresN 00:54, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons

On 22 June 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that to develop the 1990 video game Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons, John Carmack and John Romero took their work computers from Softdisk home with them on weekends? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Re: List of Square Enix Europe games

Hi PresN! Thanks for the comment. There's still a bit of work to do on the list so I haven't given much thought to FLC yet. But once the list is rounded out, it should be worth a shot. – Zntrip 22:21, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
