Orphaned fair use image (Image:PCSnowCoverFVV.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:PCSnowCoverFVV.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. I have reverted your edits at Flag carrier and Aurigny Air Services again. [edit]Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Francis Coquelin, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! No source provided for middle name. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:43, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- Seeing as you have a track record for adding unsourced middle names to biographies, I wonder: was it you who originally added "Charles Ernest" to Wenger's biography all those years ago? Mattythewhite (talk) 17:47, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- Those are Wenger's middles names as per the citation given; no mention of his name on the talk page so I'm not sure where it was established that he has no middle names. And no, it was not me who added them originally. Phinn (talk) 20:18, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Phinn. Re your revert. There are quite a few others which you might want to correct. e.g. Bruce Forsyth, Ian McKellen, Paul McCartney, etc., etc. Could you point out to me where that particular MOS guideline is? Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:54, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Martin. I know there are a lot which are incorrect but do try and correct when I see them! The relevant MOS is MOS:BIO, under Honorific Titles. Phinn (talk) 14:25, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Where is says: "The honorific titles Sir, Dame, Lord and Lady are included in the initial reference and infobox heading for the subject of a biographical article, but are optional after that. The title is placed in bold in the first use of the name." Where "first use" is assumed to include the infobox, I guess? Except that the infobox is always placed to the right of the opening sentence and is thus not first use in appearance? You've read the advice on pre-nominals at Template:Infobox person? Martinevans123 (talk) 14:28, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- It mentions that those particular honorific titles should be included in both the initial reference and infobox heading, so emboldened along with the person's name, i.e. Sir Elton John, not Sir Elton John in both the article and infobox. I do agree however MOS does contradict the Template:Infobox person regarding pre-nominals with the example the latter gives gives. There are numerous examples of the correct use of a Sir or Dame with another honorific prefix, for instance The Right Honourable, e.g. Winston Churchill, John Major, Sian Elias, Mary Arden, etc.. although these tend to be political rather than pop culture figures. Phinn (talk) 14:45, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- MOS for Honorific Titles says "The honorific titles Sir, Dame, Lord and Lady are included in the initial reference and infobox heading for the subject of a biographical article, but are optional after that." That says nothing about same line or emboldening? Martinevans123 (talk) 15:40, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- "The title is placed in bold in the first use of the name." Phinn (talk) 15:44, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yes but, as I suggested above, the first line of the text and the first line of the infobox can't both be "first use" can they? That's why I assumed Template:Infobox person took precedence. It's totally clear and even gives an example of exactly this use. I had also assumed that those with "The Right Honourable" were a special case. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:50, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Anything placed in the infobox heading, the person's name in this case, is automatically emboldened. The MOS is referring to the first use in the article as per my Elton John example. The template is clear in and of itself but as mentioned it does contradict the MOS in this regard. Given that MOS appears to be the most recent updated advice I would defer to it rather than the template. Phinn (talk) 16:03, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Well, there's an obvious contradiction, so I think someone should raise the question explicitly at Template talk:Infobox person before any more reversions are made. It's not clear to me what is "correct" and what is "incorrect", although I'm pretty sure we're meant to have some consistency. So I've asked the question there. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:10, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- For what little it's worth, I've usually bolded "Sir" as part of the name in the first line of the article. I suppose because of the way people say "Sir Barry", keeping it attached to the forename, even in relatively informal contexts, I think of it as part of the name in a way that other honorifics (Hon., Dr., Rev., etc.) aren't. Digging into the history of that particular guideline, it looks as though the person who wrote that was principally preoccupied with eradicating the "Sir Forename" style from the running text of articles. This probably merits further discussion; I know some editors feel very strongly that it shouldn't be considered part of the name. (I actually dropped by to suggest to Phinn that by convention, we don't hyphenate "Lord Lieutenant" in article titles, but perhaps we should be rethinking that, too.) Choess (talk) 16:58, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
I'm surprised you've adjusted at Darcey Bussell, before the question is resolved at Template talk:Infobox person. I think I'd better just give up making any additions for now. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:52, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- I was mid-edit with the LG citations when you made yours. Hopefully this will be resolved swiftly. Phinn (talk) 18:01, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- That's a good answer! Me too. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:22, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Anything to add at all, in the light of the advice from RexxS? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:11, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Phinn! PC is only used as a post-nom by lords (see Privy_Council_of_the_United_Kingdom#Rights_and_privileges_of_members), not "commoners". The default signifier of a privy counsellor is the title "The Right Honourable"; if someone is already due this title, such as by being a baron or above, the post-nom PC is used to clarify things. Does this make sense? Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 02:22, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Gaia, just read the same thing as I didn't initially grasp your meaning. Thanks for clarifying. Phinn (talk) 02:25, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
- No problem! PC and Kt are the two most confusing post-noms because they follow different rules than all the others. You aren't the first (and won't be the last) to treat them like normal post-noms. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - I presume you are referring to George Carlin and the embedded military infobox? Might've been helpful to mention that. I'm not that fussed about the issue so I haven't bothered taking it further. I would hardly regard two reverts as engaging in an 'edit war' although it's interesting that my edits were also reverted twice and yet only I am being reprimanded.
