Adoption
I am currnetly in year 11 studying Ancient and modern Histories, it would be great if you could adopt me, because we both seem to share a like for ancient history. Contact me at my talk page. Thankyou. --Tom.mevlie (talk) 12:32, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- You are the first reply i have gotten from any one i have sent an adoption message to, i am not entirely sure how this works, but i would be overjoyed if you were to adopt me. Thanks Tom.mevlie (talk) 23:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Templates
I was wondering how to create a template for my page, you know, most of the other projects have a banner that allows articles to be grouped into the project, how would i go about doing that? Thanks.Tom.mevlie (talk) 23:59, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Anemospilia
It seems we both tried to improve the same article, what a coincidence, almost like fate. I really need help recruiting more users though, thanks. Tom.mevlie (talk) 02:36, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Re suspected socks
Have you looked at User:DangerTM? You may want to review my comments at User talk:John Carter#Take_a_look_at_this_user. I don't want to assume bad faith, I've never run into a sock before; but this user's edits looked very suspicious and I noticed that you are tracking a puppetmaster with related edits.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 19:01, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- John suggested I tag the user's page as suspected, so I did. He also noted an apparent consistency in not capitalizing the word "i" which I hadn't noticed. Let me know if there is anything further I can do to help.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 19:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I definitely think you are right, just compare the two user pages, very similar layout and membership of the same wikiprojects basically. It is also not that common to find sigs on user pages. But if he hasn't been doing anything disruptive with that account (I just had a quick look at his contribs and there seem to be some good edits), perhaps it is better to just block the old accounts and wait and see. Especially considering that getting a clean start is one of the allowed reasons for creating a new account. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 20:49, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- This seems like a good way to proceed - if the user is the same he does appear keen and open to guidance. If he is the same give the chap a chance to reform. If he isn't the same then leave the guy to prove themselves by their track record. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Tim Shell
I supported keeping this article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tim Shell (3rd nomination) because I could find at least 4 reliable, third-party articles on an MSN search. Wikipedia:Verifiability did not apply there because "If no reliable, third-party sources can be found for an article topic, Wikipedia should not have an article on it...." did not apply. I was caught in an edit conflict as the debate was closed, at which time I wanted to add in that the real issue was notability, not verifiability. I had come to the conclusion, about 60 seconds too late, that Tim Shell is just not notable, ironically enough. So I can live with the consensus to delete. Bearian (talk) 15:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Adoption
Hello,
I am searching someone for help. I am a german wikipedian and I try to translate some german articles into english. It is the first time since 35 years I write this language and I need someone to control style and grammar in my translations.
My interests: sacred music, classical music.
I play recorder. I sing soprano.
My languages:
- German
- Latin
- French
- English
Kind regards
--Gedackt (talk) 07:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome to the english wikipedia! I'd be happy to adopt you and look over your contributions. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 15:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for helping! Funny: German organist. In German we write: deutscher Organist! I must search the grammer of my children... They are leaving home now and cooking alone is not all for me, but I love it. I love organ music too. Special modern organ music from improviser. You heard Wolfgang Seifen? I studied myself a little bit music history. I want to translate some of the german articles of international interest. Starting with biographies. That is easier for beginning. A question for typo: You made ==Title. In german WP we write: == Title (with space). Is there a standard?
- Do you watch my edits?
- Kind regards
- --Gedackt (talk) 17:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think it matters if you use spaces in the titles or not. The automatic layout script I use prefer not to have spaces, but I don't think it matters. I'd be happy tol continue to go over your edits if you want me to. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 21:01, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
New article
New difficult article: Church musician (Germany). Partiturspiel. What is the correct term in english? score playing??--Gedackt (talk) 17:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think score reading would be the best translation. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 03:20, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
FYI
For what it is worth, I have a suspicion that new user WilliamMThompson (talk · contribs) is the sockpuppet of Tom.mevlie (talk · contribs) that you identified. Cheers! Wassupwestcoast (talk) 16:28, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I second that. Howa0082 (talk) 17:15, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I totally agree, but since he isn't being very disruptive at the moment I would suggest waiting with blocking (he'd just return with another account). Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 17:56, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry
Hey sorry about that man, I thought that implications were well within my rights, but I guess I was wrong. Does that fall under the category of slander or what? Just for future reference.WilliamMThompson (talk) 22:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello
Hellp Pax. I wonder. I thought there was supposed to be a certain sense of comradery between adopter and adoptee. MAYBE I WAS WRONG. maybe i wasn't. I did break the rules a bit. just a lot. But I see you are hot on the case of another. WILL THOMPSON. I might have to pay hm a little visit. I don't blame you. I blame myself. But that kid has stealing from me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom.mevlie (talk • contribs) 09:02, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Block of WilliamMThompson
Hi. I see that you've blocked [1][2] this user for 48 hours. Your block message references Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Tom.mevlie, but I see no reference on that page to this user. Would you mind explaining your reasoning a little? He may have had a rocky start, but I agreed to "adopt" him, and I've been trying to coach him in being a productive Wikipedian. Just to be clear, I'm not saying you're wrong, or trying to defend anything he might have done, but given my "adopter" undertaking, I feel a responsibility to understand what's going on. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 20:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- You may want to review this conversation I had with him. Bovlb (talk) 21:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello. My name is Stephen Dixon(but you can call me Drance). I am curently looking to be REadopted seeing as how my former adopter has gone into hideing. I was wondering if you would be willing to take the job. Contact me at my talk page.

Checkuser
I see you've read my mind and opened up a checkuser regarding Tom.mevlie, WilliamMThompson and last night's SPAs. Just earlier today I posted a long rant, complete with additional proof of my convictions, to this page here in case you want to add to your summary. The common misspellings ("besmerching", "loose") and similar editing times are further damning, I think. Hopefully this can be taken care of once and for all. María (habla conmigo) 19:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Good observations, at this point I think his identity has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt, but since the RFCU has been filed I'll wait for it to play out before acting. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 23:17, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Tom mevlie sock
My apologies for contacting you like this, but there might be a problem. Please see Wikipedia:Administrator's noticeboard/Incidents#User:WilliamMThompson suicide post regarding the above party. If you or anyone have any idea where this party is editing from, it would help us find out which Foundation branch office to contact regarding this at least potentially real threat. John Carter (talk) 15:13, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see how we could do anything more at this point. The only way we can handle threats of violence is by blocking. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 15:27, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, in the past, we also notify the local police in cases like this. Or potentially the Foundation. But the main foundation office in the US is closed weekends. If there were any way to find out where the user is based from, we could at least tell the local police there about the potentially possible suicide threat. John Carter (talk) 15:47, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of any such policy or guideline, but I still don't think there is anything we can do. We know he's from Australia, but what can we do, tell Australian authorities that someone somewhere might be thinking of committing suicide? Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 20:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't really know if it's ever been "formalized" as a policy or guideline, because it really doesn't happen that often. But that's what's been done in the past when they were a bit more forthcoming about their real names and/or locations. I've dropped a note to the Foundation now. In these circumstances, I honestly think that is almost literally all we can do. John Carter (talk) 21:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Doc Thompson
Not that I doubt WilliamMThompson is a sock of tom.mevlie, but what was the final straw in this instance? The tom.mevlie sockpuppet page doesn't even list Will at all, and I sorta think it should, so people who wander across him can see what was the damning beat of that infernal heart! Howa0082 (talk) 01:00, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- I added information to the talk page, but it's easy to miss. His identity was confirmed by a checkuser and several other accounts were discovered. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 01:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Dave and Etruscans
Thanks pax. Actually, I am doing Etruscans. There was so much incidental baloney on them that I found I had to help straighten all that out first before I could go further. I was going to work back to it. Let me give it some thought. Thanks so much.Dave (talk) 00:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

My RFA has closed
My RFA that you weighed in on earlier has closed as no consensus to promote, at a final tally of 120/47/13. I thank you for your feedback and comments there, and I'm going to be considering all the various advice and comments presented. I might end up at RFA again some day, or not. If you see me there again in the future, perhaps you might consider a Support !vote. If not, not, and no hard feelings. The pen is still mightier than the mop! See you around, and thanks again. One More Adoption
Are you interested in taking on another student? I looked through the list of adopters and your description seemed be the closest to what I am most interested in on WP. I look forward to your reply?--Adamfinmo (talk) 06:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Pax. Is there a place where I can find a list of WP essays and/or a master list of all WP short cuts, like WP:Vandal, WP:Not etc. I have run across stuff in the past and I can't remember how to get back to some stuff.--Adam in MO Talk 03:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Those are very valueable. Adam in MO Talk 00:02, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
request for protection of Mujahideen
Hi, I saw that you acted to protect the Mujahideen article last time content disputes in the Bosnia and Herzegovina section got out of hand. This is now the case again (probably because the Bosnian mujahideen article has been protected for the same reasons). I have made a request for protection and would appreciate if you could look into / consider it. CheersOsli73 (talk) 15:26, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Liz Fuller
I have noticed you have locked the Liz Fuller page and i would like to edit some of the information to make it upto date. Her website is www.lizfuller.com and is updated weekly sometimes. Protection request for Sandra Lee (cook)
Thanks for looking at my request for page protection. I'm not sure I understand your response though, "Blocking should be used when only a low number of IPs are involved." What do you suggest instead? --Ronz (talk) 16:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Jeremiah Wright protection
Instead of protecting a high-profile page for an insane 3 months, why not block the Special:Contributions/Tallicfan20 guilty party, who totaled something like six reverts in 24 hours? Grsztalk 21:26, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- I obviously don't intend the full protection to last 3 months, it will be lifted as soon as some kind of solution has been found. I merely kept the date of the earlier protection to make it easier to restore the semi-protection (with the original expiry date) once the full protection is lifted. The reason I didn't block Tallicfan20 was that he didn't continue after your warning. Should he continue to break the 3RR report him or let me know and he'll be blocked. However, he doesn't seem to be the only editor having a problem with the picture, so the core issue still needs to be resolved. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 22:05, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh ok, sounds good. Grsztalk 22:17, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- The accompanying Jeremiah Wright controversy was subject to full protection for only a few days. After some sock puppets were unmasked and some other discussions, the page was fully unprotected has been sitting without so much as an NPOV tag and going without edits for days on end. Of course, I can't promise that there won't be future disputes but hopefully things will stay sane.
- I am concerned by your comments here. Most editors viewing this page see "August 3" and think that it will be that long. I think you may be disillusioning editors and readers, even with Wikipedia as a whole, simply to save what sounds like a few minutes of your time - and that is only if semi-protection is really needed, which in the case of the article I mentioned didn't seem to be the case. (Really, what kind of POV warrior can't take a moment to get an account and hide his IP address?) I also think that if abusive behavior does not continue and does not provide reason to block a user, then it also does not provide reason to block a page.
- I haven't been editing the Jeremiah Wright article but surely it has been full-protected for too long already. Wnt (talk) 18:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree that things seem to have cooled down enough for us to try unprotection. Semi-protection is definitely needed for the article right now. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 22:15, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh ok, sounds good. Grsztalk 22:17, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Requesting an Editor Review
Hi, you opposed my last RFA at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Gary King a few weeks ago. I have decided to open an Editor Review at Wikipedia:Editor review/Gary King so I could receive a new assessment for my recent activity on Wikipedia. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to look over my recent contributions and point out areas where I could improve. Thanks in advance! Gary King (talk) 05:21, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Restoral of AP disambiguation page
Greetings,
Just curious if you would like to discuss. Pls read my comments on the AP discussion page and let me know what you think.
Thanks.Marchije (talk) 15:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again. Thanks for responding. I do however disagree with entries such as IATA codes on disambiguation pages - in my opinion this goes against MOS:DAB. However, in the spirit of collaboration and consensus, I have posted the following topic on WT:MOSDAB to see what others think. Feel free to weigh-in on the discussion yourself.
- Thanks again, Marchije (talk) 04:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, yes it is probably a good idea to get wider input. Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 07:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Closing Instructions Moved?
I've been away and missed the discussion surrounding this: Wikipedia_talk:Miscellany_for_deletion#Reorganizing_admin_instructions . Can you fill me in quickly on why this page isn't a redirect to DELPRO? The possibility of inconsistent instructions seems likely and DELPRO would seem to control. Thanks.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 20:42, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, here is the original discussion for reference. My idea was that having separate pages would make navigation easier (when scrolling around DELPRO I sometime ended up in the wrong section), and since no one objected to the proposal I copied each section to its own instructions page (and created similar pages for WP:RFPP and WP:AIV). I posted a question to the DELPRO talk page a few days ago asking what people thought we should do (I totally agree with you that we can't have double instructions, but I wanted more feedback before proceeding). I'll make another post and we'll see if we can get a discussion going. Cheers/ Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 21:46, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I just wanted to direct you to my talk page to see what you thought. Thanks. Will.M.Thompson (talk) 11:25, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- I had hoped you would say something along those lines, I hope we can work together in the future. Just a quick question, is there any way I can get the edit history from WilliamMThompson onto my account? Or would that be out of the question? Will.M.Thompson (talk) 12:11, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I don't think that there is a way to transfer contributions from one account to another (I don't know how to do it at least). Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 12:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks anyway. I daresay next year you will be able to assist me with my historical mini-thesus? Or so they call it, I have to find a topic, but it's not until atleast the end of this year. Will.M.Thompson (talk) 22:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Pentimento
This is being done the wrong way - the "painting" usage is clearly the primary one & should have the simple title, with the others from a disam page. Look at "what links here"! You have not even given the original meaning, which both others are references to, the top line. Please do correctly, or I will. Johnbod (talk) 11:27, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, I see your point (even though at least 3 links were meant for other articles). Pax:Vobiscum (talk) 11:45, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
