Campaigns Product Update #4

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers!

We are excited to share our updates:

  • Event Registration v0
We have successfully launched Event Registration tool V0 on beta cluster and collected feedback from the first batch of testers. This tool is part of a more comprehensive organizing solution, the Event Center, which hopes to support movement organizers. Through this registration solution, organizers can collect useful data on campaign participants and their needs while respecting participant privacy.
Testing update. In our first round of feedback collection, testers were composed of different types of organizers around the movement with a language focus on Arabic, French, English, and Swahili communities. Most of the testers successfully created their test event registrations and signed up for a test event registration created by other organizers. Simple, easy to use, and aids in managing event participants were the common feedback we received from first-time users. In contrast, access and proper localization of the tool were the points for improvement identified. We are working on V1, which will include communication support and integration with the Programs and Event Dashboard. This will be released on Meta-Wiki soon. We hope to address accessibility during this launch and improve localization problems once the tool has been deployed in local wikiprojects.
The tool is still available for testing on the beta cluster. Feel free to leave feedback on our project talk page or this form.
  • Organizer Lab
Looking for a way to learn how to effectively organize around sustainability? Join the beta version of the Organizer Lab on WikiLearn to understand how to effectively organize a global campaign around sustainability and climate change! Applications are open from September 22 - October 19, 2022. The Organizer Lab will be a 9-week online learning experience from the end of October until mid December that prepares participants to obtain knowledge about the topics that they wish to create, a call to action for strategic knowledge gaps, as well as more generalized Wikimedia organizing and campaign/event design skills.
Read more about the program!

What's Next:

  • Organizer User Rights. We are reaching out to a pool of administrators from Arabic, French and Swahili communities to collect feedback on what is the best way to define organizer user rights, what privileges to give to community organizers, and what are the limitations of these privileges. Feel free to reach out to our product ambassadors or send an email to ibrazal-ctr@wikimedia.org if you are interested to be part of these conversations.

Community Feedback:

"Participants have been always asking the organizers are asked by participants whether they are registered, now participants will just look directly if they are registered, Thank you for creating the system"
- French Organizer

“I think that the platform will facilitate the process of promoting events and searching for participants”
- Arabic Organizer

Thank you!

An article you recently created, Interfaith Diversity Network of West Africa, is not suitable as written to remain published. There are not enough in-depth sourceing so as to meet WP:GNG. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi TT me, I checked the deleted article and its totally different from the previous one that was deleted. Even the references used were all totally different. The person meets the very basic notability criteria. And no this is not my first Wikipedia article created been editing Wikipedia since 2016 and I help run a user group Wikimedia Ghana User Group look us up and some of the work I have done as a affiliate head within the Wikimedia movement.Owula kpakpo (talk) 11:13, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

A question about your editing

Have you been paid for any of your editing? JBW (talk) 21:18, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi JBW, no I have not been paid for any of my editing since I became an active Wikipedian since February of 2016. Mind you I help run a Wikimedia affiliate Wikimedia Ghana User Group and one of the things we are so much against is paid editing so why would I do that. Which of my edits gives the impression that I have to be paid before doing such an edit.Owula kpakpo (talk) 11:19, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

There was no specific edit, there was just a general feeling that much of your editing seemed to be written with a sense of enthusiasm for the subject which you were writing about. That could possibly have been due to paid editing, but alternatively it could be just your way of writing, so I'm perfectly willing to believe what you have said. Thanks for answering my query. JBW (talk) 11:38, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
First of all what do you mean by sense of enthusiasm for the subject? Like I said in Africa were I come from and being a Wikipedian for this long both in editing and community work you know the bias we face on the Wiki's so any edit you make are scrutinised to the tea even forcefully fighting deletion tags but the numbers are not always in our favour. And as someone who mentors new editors in our community we know how statements like that demoralises them to continue editing. And so I don't take lightly comments or covert questions like having been paid for any of my editing. We all are to assume good faith in all the edits we do I won't take it lightly for you to insinuate same in the context of asking a question. Lets all be minded by that. Owula kpakpo (talk) 12:33, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

There was nothing covert in what I said, nor did I insinuate anything. I meant exactly what I said, neither more nor less. If for some reason you suspect otherwise then that's up to you, but assuming good faith might be a better approach. JBW (talk) 12:38, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Elroy Salam moved to draftspace

Gwen Addo moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Gwen Addo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 15:21, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

First of all which part of the article shows any Paid Editing or Conflict of Interest. And which of the information I put in the article haven't I referenced. Monday was the 7th year of editing Wikipedia and you constantly come and allege certain things on most of the articles I create. It's been always you the same person alleging one thing or the other on any of the articles I have created without offering to correct anything I have done which might not be correct if I am assuming good faith. I lead a Wikimedia affiliate in Ghana and have held several volunteer roles in the Wikimedia movement one thing I always tell the editors I train is on Conflict of Interest. So kindly point me to where you thought I have been paid to do all that you assume I am doing. Owula kpakpo (talk) 15:32, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Onel5969
Its been more than 5 days you make a spurious allegation against my person which in assuming all good faith I decided to respond and ask which of the contents points to that. But after 5 days its clear this allegation against all nothing ludicrous allegations. And this are some of the statements that new editors encounter that we as community organizer suffer to get new volunteer editors to continue editing. I am scandalized and hope you retract that dirty allegation you put on me. Owula kpakpo (talk) 05:26, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Not spurious nor ludicrous, didn't know you had responded to my message above, since you did not ping me. There are clear indications that you have some sort of relationship to the article's subject. What is that relationship? Onel5969 TT me 12:07, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Onel5969,
So I have no relationship with the subject I have never met her and never been in any form of conversation with her. The only one I spoke to concerning this article is the photographer since our user group has a 500 Notable People Photo Project we run article here so we always collecting images from photographers of people we have written articles about. Again I lead activities of Wikimedia Ghana User Group in Ghana so you can imagine the messages we receive on our social media daily and those we decide to write on who meet the notability criteria. I am one for assuming good faith but to put such an allegation on me with no proof is either spurious and ludicrous. And I deserve some apology. Owula kpakpo (talk) 12:15, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
You deserve neither. But your explanation, which you could have started with rather than your rant above, is satisfactory. Onel5969 TT me 12:21, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Onel5969,
Of course I need to rant because editors we try hard to train go through this which makes it difficult to retain them and there is already a huge gap on Wikipedia from editors from the Global South. So when I see editors try to lump everyone together for things they haven't done its ludicrous. Owula kpakpo (talk) 12:25, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
