Band of Gypsys

I would appreciate it if you could explain your reasoning for deleting the set list subsection. You did not clarify why you deleted it back on June 4th as well as today. This information is factual and should by no means should be deleted. I was personally looking for the stated deleted info and traced the revert back to you. While I understand your reasoning for not using the album jpg twice, I can't figure out why you delete an entire subsection to "improve" that page.StevieB5175 (talk) 18:09, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

This article is about the Band of Gypsys album, not the group themselves nor their performances at the Fillmore East. Your edit summary includes "This info gives the reader an accurate list of what Band of Gypsys recordings are on thousand other collection"; your edit does not provide any additional information about the BoG album, but rather what is available on other albums. Because of its size, it places undue emphasis on an area that is peripheral (see WP:OFFTOPIC). Article links to Band of Gypsys 2, Live at the Fillmore East, and West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology are sufficient to provide the provide the reader with information about additional tracks recorded at FE that have been officially released (none of the bootlegs have articles and are probably not notable). Also, your edit is entirely unreferenced, except a note that "Track length info from bootlegs called Box of Gypsys." The GA review required extensive use of inline citations from reliable sources, which your edit does not provide. Perhaps include some WP:RELIABLE information in the Live at the Fillmore East article. It would seem more appropriate there, since that album is an attempt to provide a more comprehensive release of the FE performances. —Ojorojo (talk) 15:14, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Sunshine of Your Love

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Sunshine of Your Love you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Your GA nomination of Sunshine of Your Love

The article Sunshine of Your Love you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Sunshine of Your Love for comments about the article. Well done! Sorry, again forgot the discography featured list, but notify me next time you nominate it, and I'll give it a look... I rarely if ever frequent the featured list pages. FunkMonk (talk) 18:04, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
@FunkMonk: I'm not sure that I'll nominate it again without making some changes first. Something is obviously not working, but no one is willing to comment. My guess is the size (at 95K, it is one of the longest discographies). The "Music performances in films" section could be spun off into a separate videography article. Likewise with "Hendrix as an accompanist" However, this would only reduce the size to 84K or 78K (11% or 18% reduction). This would require that these sections from the FL Jimi Hendrix discography be incorporated, which I'd rather not tamper with. Any suggestions where I could get some useful feedback? (there was little interest at Peer review and WikiProject Discographies is almost inactive.) —Ojorojo (talk) 21:13, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks again for your interest, Beatleswhobeachboys. It's sometimes difficult to find enough interesting material for older songs. The blues tie-in and multiple notable renditions helps. —Ojorojo (talk) 17:12, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

You Really Got Me on Hold

Hi Ojorojo: I was wondering what specifically needs improving on the You Really Got Me. I'm struggling to single out what needs work and what doesn't. Beatleswhobeachboys (talk) 18:58, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Beatleswhobeachboys, it looks like you got around to fixing it (basic MOS – the lead should not contain any major points not addressed in the body). This is your creation and I'm trying not to interfere. However, the "Music and lyrics" section is a great addition. I think the song forecast punk and heavy metal. Do you want some more time? —Ojorojo (talk) 13:02, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks about the "music and lyrics" section! I'm just unsure as to what needs extra work: To me the article is pretty well-rounded (I've corrected all of the issues you have pointed out so far), so I'm having trouble finding out what is lacking. Beatleswhobeachboys (talk) 14:02, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
I think it's a GA. I can give it a final copy edit if you want. —Ojorojo (talk) 17:00, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
A final look-over would be great, but if you think it's a GA, then you don't have to go to the trouble. Beatleswhobeachboys (talk) 23:23, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Collaboration?

Are you at all interested in a future collaboration on improving A Love Supreme? There's no hurry, but I'm curious where you stand on this, or if you have any interest. Viriditas (talk) 00:32, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

I have been thinking about "Blue Train" or "Straight Ahead", but can't find enough RS. "A Love Supreme" is a phenomenal piece of music and what can come out of a collaboration interests me. However, I think it depends on the sources. My Coltrane bio (Cole) gives it less than three pages. Do you think there is enough out there to do it justice? —Ojorojo (talk) 15:13, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, there's a lot. I have Ashley Kahn's A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album (2003) [2002]. Not only is it comprehensive, but its bibliography contains several hundred sources, many of which I have access to or are familiar with. Viriditas (talk) 22:31, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
I know there's a lot of spiritual influence with this and I'm not sure I'm comfortable dealing with it. —Ojorojo (talk) 17:27, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
You should understand, there has been a campaign by several different editors to add "influenced by Islam" to many Coltrane articles, even when the sources don't really support it. For example, the lead section of A Love Supreme says "Coltrane's exposure to Ahmadiyya Islam has also been suggested as a source of influence." However, when one actually looks at the source cited, one finds no substantiating evidence, only speculation about the beliefs of other people who may have influenced Coltrane, and an unsubstantiated interpretation of his liner notes. Again, I've seen this for many years now. So 1) that statement should be completely removed from the lead section, and 2) if the article does discuss spirituality, it will need to be strongly sourced. I'm looking at Kahn's source right now, and for the most part, it focuses on the music first and foremost. When necessary, it compares what was going on in Coltrane's life with composition, production, and recording, but the spiritual theme is overplayed by partisans. If we were to collaborate on this in the future, I wouldn't expect you to write a single word about any spiritual themes, only to write about music. But again, there's a lot of stuff editors keep adding (the above as only one example) that should be removed. Viriditas (talk) 22:54, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
I've picked up a few Coltrane bios, including Kahn. I'll look them over and see what I can do. —Ojorojo (talk) 19:57, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Don't sweat it. I was just putting feelers out there. I've got a ton of stuff to work on. However, if you ever make it over to that article, let me know. Viriditas (talk) 04:29, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Stormy Monday article title discussion

It would help take the bull by the horns to start a brief discussion on the talk page explaining why we use the current article title. I realize that the final article title may be determined by many different factors, not necessarily by the name it appears in a single printing. Others (like Stone) will need this explained to them, and by having this on the talk page, you can link to it if it occurs again, or create a FAQ header with the question and answer. Viriditas (talk) 02:18, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Since "Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday Is Just as Bad)" is such a mouthful, it's commonly referred to as "Stormy Monday". However, many (authoritive) writers stick to the long name, perhaps to avoid the problems of it being associated with the Hines-Eckstine "Stormy Monday Blues". This came up in the GA review. Any more thoughts on this? —Ojorojo (talk) 15:10, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
I think you have it under control. Add this (and/or what you wrote on the talk page) to a {{FAQ}} template and add it to the header. Viriditas (talk) 23:32, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

your edit

I see my quote from Hendrix was removed, by you? Sorry if I don't understand the system and perhaps have got it wrong, but if it was you, why? I thought having his own words is a good thing. Here is the quote, ""I Don't Live Today is dedicated to the American Indian and all minority depression groups, to the Black Panthers, all the people that might feel uptight about what's happening today... Your home isn't America,it's the Earth. But things are precarious. Quite naturally things are going bad here. Let's reflect on this crap. Were all soldiers fighting about different things, we must get together. But don't forget you've got to stop, or get yourself to a point that you just can't live...Let's see what kind of world we want to have. My song I Don't Live Today, that's where it is at, dedicated to all the cats that are trying to struggle, all the self-appointed soldiers in Chicago and Vietnam."

Patfromlogan (talk) 20:14, 28 December 2015 (UTC)patfromlogan

Patfromlogan, as I noted in the edit summary, this quote needs 1) some context: where and when did he say this?; Was it in response to a recent event?; etc. and 2) a reliable source (basic WP policy: all quotes should have an inline citation). I notice that several of your recent edits have no references. Perhaps, a review of some guidelines would be beneficial: WP:Verifiability, WP:Identifying reliable sources, WP:Citing sources, etc. —Ojorojo (talk) 21:05, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
