Patrolled?

I got an e-mail that said you patrolled me. What's that? I got this really cool shivery thing like Batman was on the roof. Can any of us patrol people or is it special? Djcheburashka (talk) 08:47, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

@Djcheburashka: You would want to read WP:New pages patrol, any newly created page would need to be reviewed. Unless the page creator has permissions like WP:ADMIN or WP:Autopatrolled. Review is important for assuring that page is not a attack page, violation of copyrights, etc. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 08:58, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Kaspar Glatz

You put the "Start" category on the article Kaspar Glatz. I'm not sure you read it closely. I wrote most of the article and I can tell you that there is really nothing more to add about him. As far as references, most of the info comes from his entry in the 19th century Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, because that's the only source that I could find that mentioned him at all. A few other facts are filled in from letters to and from Luther which mention him and from his signature on one of the responses to the Augsburg Interim.

I'm not sure what more information or sources are needed. This is as complete a history of this man as can be established.Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 15:01, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

It seemed fair enough for Start/C class. If you want higher rating, then you may want to use the sources that are available online. B-criteria must pass 6 criteria, check WP:BCLASS. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 15:10, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I don't "want" a higher class. The title "Starter" just seemed odd. Personally, I think it meets the requirements of Class B: It is suitably referenced, actually better than a lot of other articles. Reasonably covers the topic, especially since there appears to be no more information about him. It has a good structure. I think it is quite well written. There really are no supporting materials to include; I suppose I could have scanned the signature page of Der Prediger der Jungen Herrn/Johans Friderichen Hertzogen zu Sachssen etc. Sönen/Christlich Bedencken auss das Interim to be an image--maybe I will. Finally, I think it is quite understandable by anyone.
Anyway, I'm not going to argue the point. It's a fine article and anyone who wants to know about this guy will find out all there is to know. And I'm satisfied with that. Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 17:27, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Your signature

Resolved

Hi, the code in your signature breaks the html syntax, and as a result user who edit anywhere after your signature have problems with syntax highlighting in the editor. Would you be kind to ensure that <span> and italics markings do not cross-cut each other but are correctly nested? Thanks. kashmiri TALK 07:41, 19 November 2014 (UTC) <span style="color:DarkBlue;">Occult</span><span style="color:blue;">Zone</span> <small>(Talk • Contributions • Log)</small>

Okay, simply moved <span> from the end to just after "Zone". Color parameter has no influence on special links anyway. kashmiri TALK 08:17, 19 November 2014‎ (UTC)
@Kashmiri: Thank you very much!
Also thanks for contributing on Kargil War, I have got some pages for you, what you have to say about this merger? We had merged it to Rape in India before, but some of the users were thinking of Human rights abuses in Kashmir. I think it can be merged anywhere but the current article is really redundant. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 08:58, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi, Human rights abuses in Kashmir is a misnomer in my view. Human rights were codified in Europe in mid-twentieth century; other cultures and legal traditions did not really have a concept of a "universal human right", so IMHO it is a bit unusual to ever talk about "human rights abuses in Kashmir" in 16th century! True, the article could discuss only the post-1948 period, but then there is disagreement whether human rights can apply to territories in a state of armed conflict - one legal tradition says that IHL supersedes human rights laws in armed conflict; even as another view considers IHL a subset of the human rights law. Anyhow, the article would need tremendous work, unsure I'd be able to do it before the X-mass break.
As to rape article, I don't think I want to spend too much time on it - having lived in India, I will say that whatever is written will never match the grim reality. I might only remove "terrorist" wording from the J&K section as per WP:TERRORIST and, time permitting, might add a few media reports of rape by the military (a very common occurrence in J&K) - the current text is completely out of balance.
But thank you to pointing out to these two articles. Regards, kashmiri TALK 09:32, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Dear, for your kind understanding. Being a third party editor your comments are valuable, may please cooperate against vandalism done by some people like User: Summichum.--Md iet (talk) 11:58, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

I suggest you read the first sentence of the article: "The following is a list of ethnic slurs (ethnophaulisms) that are, or have been, used as insinuations or allegations about members of a given ethnicity or to refer to them in a derogatory (critical or disrespectful), pejorative (disapproving or contemptuous), or insulting manner in the English-speaking world" and the warning notes at the top of each section that additions require references, as well as WP:LIST. Long discursions are not proper for lists. μηδείς (talk) 03:27, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

@Medeis: It is actually : "used as insinuations or allegations about members of a given ethnicity" and "or to refer to them in a derogatory (critical or disrespectful), pejorative (disapproving or contemptuous)," and "or insulting manner in the English-speaking world." It is not necessary that the terms have to be English words, otherwise we wouldn't be listing the non-English songs or names anywhere in en.wiki. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 03:46, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Also read "Foreign slurs that have become English language loanwords may be included, as long as the definition and sources are in English" as written on Talk:List of ethnic slurs. English sources are available for each of those terms that you have removed. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 03:51, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the civil response. "in the English speaking world" modifies the whole sentence. It doesn't mean any word that occurs in some speech where some people speak English. If there is a specific slur which you have evidence is used in English, without italics, scare quotes, or explanations, simply provide a reliable source. An article in English about a dispute that took place where the speakers used a foreign language and insulted each other would not be sufficient--we'd need a dictionary type source that says "word" meaning X that originates in language Z. (See secondary versus tertiary sources for WP:RS.) Not word that means X in language Z. Otherwise this article becomes an encyclopedia of world slurs, not a list of Ethnic slurs used in English. μηδείς (talk) 04:24, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
The article is about slurs, not slurs by the English, I have removed the phrase 'list of slurs in English speaking world'.. that would be WP:COATRACK and highly POV to bias the article on a generic topic towards the English speaking world. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:24, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@TopGun: I think that the term is used for Punjabis,[3] both are Indians and Pakistani people. Your source is not really describing if they are racial or derogatory, there is one that does,[4] So what if we say "An Urdu/Persian term used for Punjabis." OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 15:05, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
I doubt Indians face this slur (or if that is sourced)... the source is only talking about Pakistani punjabis (I will not be surprised if it is also used for the Indian punjabis though but the question is that if the latter has a source? Anyway my version already says Indians and Pakistanis both as I felt it could cover them. Secondly, it is used by pushtuns so that part should stay I guess. It could be "An Urdu/Persian term used for Indians and Pakistani Punjabis by Pushtun." to make it look more like what you mean to say and yet hold the description. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:15, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
"Dalkhor"(without space) is actually more common among the authors, thus the current version is not bad, I will just add more references. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 15:20, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Yup, 'khor' is a suffix for 'eater' in Urdu. I'm fine with or without space. My main concern was the bias towards the English speakers. This edit was just something I had made long ago but saw removed in a similar fashion. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:24, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Information iconIt appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence User:Strike Eagle. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. You've been doing it first at subtly WT India, then via pings to bring in the editors of your choice (both of which I left alone trying not to engage you) but now you are directly posting it to talkpages and asking another user on your own talkpage to join you. This is blatant canvassing. The next time you do it, you are going to ANI. lTopGunl (talk) 09:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

@TopGun I've watchlisted the page more than 2 years ago when you and your friends tried to change the outcome of the battle by synthesis of sources....in case you haven't noticed, I returned from a break just yesterday and my went through my watchlist just today... ƬheStrikeΣagle 09:23, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
@ OccultZone: Please use the community talk pages(like WT:INDIA) for notifications about ongoing discussions and please be more neutral next time. ƬheStrikeΣagle 09:23, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
It does not matter that you were watchlisting, OZ's actions were very clearly canvassing and it is not right to call in users that share your pov or the ones you even think will share your POV. Similarly informing WT India and not informing WT Pak like he did before is subtle canvassing. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:26, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
It is not a violation of WP:CANVASSING if you have notified same user who is editing the pages about the same war for few years. Check WP:Canvassing#Appropriate_notification, point four. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 10:37, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
SE has never edited this page before. So the fact that you think he has similar POV on other articles and you choose to notify him to support you is clear cut canvassing.. SE himself has apparently told you that in a different way so you should take heed. --lTopGunl (talk) 12:23, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
He was not aware about your misrepresentation of notifying on WT:INB, but I have informed him. Check WP:Canvassing#Appropriate notification carefully. It says:-
Editors who have made substantial edits to the topic or article.
Editors who have participated in previous discussions on the same topic (or closely related topics).
Editors known for expertise in the field.
Editors who have asked to be kept informed.
Certainly Eagle Strike passes all 4 requirements above. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 12:58, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't see how any of them are satisfied, but I wasn't going to pursue it any further this time anyway.. it's useless hostility to debate it. Let's try not to barge into disputes because we had one disagreement at one place. --lTopGunl (talk) 15:18, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

"Rape in India"

Hi. I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm not sure whether I'll be a long-term user or not, but I have a wide-ranging interest in feminist topics and would greatly appreciate it if you could take some time to clear up the issue with my edit you've been reverting. (If there's a better place for me to be contacting you about this, please don't hesitate to point it out!) In particular, as a newbie the explanation you gave - "added once with stats" - is unintelligible to me, but if you can clear up what I should be doing differently I'd be happy to take the time to learn, so long as it isn't anything too complicated. If you can forgive me, I assumed you were just some vandal until seeing your profile.

Now, given the way I personally was taught, my understanding has always been that in a sentence such as "The incidence of reported rapes in India for 2010 were 1.8 per 100,000 people...", the "were" lines up with "incidence" and not "rapes", therefore in effect saying "the incidence were", which should be "the incidence was". Does Wikipedia have a policy about this?

Thanks for any help or direction you can offer.

Helen

Helen39 (talk) 04:53, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

@Helen39: It is pretty important to state whether the rapes were reported or not. For example, we do have the statistics that have been provided by various NGOs, but many of them haven't been reported to the police. That's why the current position of the sentence are shown according to their category. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 05:02, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
