Adding a New Bridge Player

[edit]

See details on GitHub for basic data. Start out at https://github.com/njhammond/generate_bridge_wikipedia_entries. To start a new player, here's what I do

General criteria should be a North American Bridge Championship or World Bridge Federation (WBF) event. This are generally "open" events including the top players in the world. Other National Bridge Organizations are more restrictive in who can take part. Females are under-represented in Wikipedia pages in Bridge.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lew Stansby requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. AmRit GhiMire 'Ranjit' (talk) 12:08, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lew Stansby was added. Amazing that someone with his credentials featured a speedy deletion. Since then I have added over 100 entries. All accepted. Just documenting here for the next time that someone tries a speedy delete I can refer them to here.Nicolas.hammond (talk) 16:01, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Crowdsourcing in cheating in bridge

[edit]

This is just to let you know of the brief entry made at Crowdsourcing#Crowdsourcing in cheating in bridge. Newwhist (talk) 00:54, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tx. I was very involved with the crowd sourcing effort. Crowd sourcing did not find, or verify, any cheaters. What it did to was to crowd source the data, i.e. time of opening leads. If we look at the various cases, FN was found by Maaike, FS by Per-Ola, BZ/PS were turned in by "No Matter". I do not think what has been written about crowd-sourcing in bridge is currently accurate on what happened.

Peggy Golder/Solomon

[edit]

Nicolas, In the Bridge Winners thread concerning the ACBL Hall of Fame ("Truth in advertising") you refer to a CSV table of alternative names. Peggy Golder is not in that table. There may be others.

See WP:WikiProject Contract bridge/NABC multiple winners for some other candidates that you may be missing. I believe you are familiar with redirect pages, such as Peggy Golder itself, and you will be able to figure out the notes such as this one at the foot of the 3rd of 5 columns, which lists people with 10 to 14 NABC wins as of some years ago.

  • Peggy Solomon [total, 12=9+3 wins]

Thanks. I updated the script. I made Peggy Golder an alternative name for Peggy Solomon and re-ran the data. Peggy S now makes my "10 winners" list.Nicolas.hammond (talk) 20:59, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Ida Grönkvist has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Brascoian (talk to me) 15:59, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It had two reliable sources when it was created. The next source had her name spelled wrong. Please read the article next time and do not rely on automated tools.Nicolas.hammond (talk)

I've left in these comments to show the difficulty I sometimes have of adding articles. My account is autopatrolled which is supposed to avoid this kind of issues. Ida is a World Champion, yet the entry was originally first denied. The page now exists. Nicolas.hammond (talk) 06:21, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sara Sivelind moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Sara Sivelind, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. GPL93 (talk) 20:44, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Leaving this up to show the continued problem. Sara is a Youth World Champion. She is on the Polish Wikipedia site. Nicolas.hammond (talk) 06:25, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kristen Onsgard moved to draftspace

[edit]

Listed so can track what happens to this page. See User_talk:Geschichte

Going to document the extra work that happens.

March 24: Wrote article. Submitted. My account is autopatrolled. Article created in similar style to other Bridge articles. The article included a picture.

March 25: Someone I don't know moved the article to draftspace. This defeats the purpose of being autopatrolled.

March 25: Because the article has moved to draftspace, the category links were removed. I presume this was a somewhat automated process. Note that when the article was moved back to the main space these category links were not put back. This required manual reinsertion later.

April 13: Manually reinsert the category links that were removed March 25.

Autopatrolled

[edit]

I am one of approximately 4800 Wikipedians who have autopatrol privileges. It is supposed to make it easier for me to create new pages but does not always seems to work. See Nicolas.hammond (current rights · rights management · rights log (local) · rights log (global/meta) · block log).

Interesting that it always seems to be the female players that are rejected, even when they have the same record as the articles on male players that I created. I started to keep track of all the rejected articles (see above) so I can track this behavior.

May 2024. Another one got deleted. Yes, female.

Your draft article, Draft:Sara Sivelind

[edit]

Hello, Nicolas.hammond. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Sara Sivelind".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
