A JOKE ?

[edit]

i have noticed from your edit history you seem to be exclusively targeting pakistan and always adding the administered tag for example K2 you reverted the stable page and added your POV then theres that ridiculous extreme points of india which claims k2 is in india where the hell did that come from ? you need to get over this kashmir and target pakistan mentality 81.151.101.146 (talk) 19:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not my POV. K2 comes under the region as claimed by India. Please accept that it is claimed by India instead of accusing me of POV pushing. I don't need to "target" Pakistan, its called NPOVing. Accept that. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:37, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there. I've reverted the IP's most recent comments, as he is a banned user who I've been trying to get Abuse Reports to deal with for a couple weeks now. There's more info in about five different sections on my talk page and at User:Hersfold/Vandal watch#Nangparbat if you're interested. Let me know if you have any questions. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:49, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So nichalp whats your logic behind reverting srinagar isnt it under indian administration ? yes or no will do 86.153.129.194 (talk) 19:54, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was reverting the IPs edits. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:55, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unless you understand that your being biased i will not stop you tag pakistani articles and them remove them from indian pages if that aint bias what is 86.153.129.194 (talk) 19:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I contest your claim. I did not knowingly remove tags. I just reverted your IPs edits through the rollback function. I will continue to tag Kashmir articles with the adjectives "Pakistan-administered Kashmir..", and "Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir...". If you find that biased, suggest a more neutral alternative. Remember, we retain the proper administrative names such as Jammu and Kashmir and Azad Kashmir. =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:06, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just blocked him. Apparently he intends to file a report about my "abuse", and had the courtesy to inform me on my talk page. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
offcourse i have to inform its my duty because trust me when they hear this its going to be big 86.163.154.165 (talk) 20:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You dont knowingly lol you know dam well what your doing your only adding this tag to pakistani articles when i do the same to indian administered territories e.g srinagar you revert them due to your nationalism please understand this and stop acting your oblivious to your own actions i.e only targeting pakistans kashmir portion while reverting indian tagged article like srinagar please explain your logic 86.154.151.176 (talk) 20:21, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

when you put the tag administered on k2 your very happy however when the same is done to srinagar you dispute this isnt srinagar disputed please explain and stick to the discussion 86.154.151.176 (talk) 20:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC) I will also continue to tag indian administered territories unless you understand that other POV must be included just like you states with the POK page so my freind unless you wake up to your bias there will be no peace 86.154.151.176 (talk) 20:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Im awaiting your response 86.154.151.176 (talk) 20:30, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hi nichalp, this guy (nangparbat) talks without any commitment.absolute waste of our time and energy..he is not ignorant..he does these "ON PURPOSE"..I found this post by user : s3000 on many talk pages about talking to him.. QUOTE START " I seem to have reached an understanding with our IP friend and he's agreed to refrain from editing. I'm not sure how sincere he is, only time will tell. Since you were one of us directly involved in this mess, I just felt you should know this milestone. Let us just put that episode behind and let's move on. Thanks and have a good day.  S3000  ☎ " QUOTE ENDS..Now we all know what he did after that ..SO, NO USE Talking to him(my opinion)..but since i know that you are far more experienced in dealing with him, you can try..but please remember that in the previous attempt to talk, s3000 could not make him keep up his word Cityvalyu (talk) 20:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

qoutes from banned socks are not reliable try again please 86.154.151.176 (talk) 20:38, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to block this IP address just yet so you can talk with him. Nangparbat, I will be reverting any of your edits I see to articles as well as semi-protecting them. You are limited to this talk page, and your own, only. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:28, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you wouldn't mind, please comment here as well: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive757#Nangparbat, round three. Nangparbat, you may comment there as well, provided you don't get abusive. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Yes, it's been too long. I'm good. How're you doing? And yes, everyone I know is safe, though a little bit shaken. One of my friend's father was at Gaffar Marg and a wounded man was thrown against him when the blast occurred. He was completely bloodstained - the scariest sight I have ever seen.

About the front page

[edit]

Can you make sure that the wikipedia front page is consistent with respect to the city, state, country format ? For example the train crash in Los Angeles, California, United States is refered to as just Los Angeles, California, whereas a similar incident in say Pune, would have read Pune, India instead of Pune, Maharashtra, India. This is not fair, why should we assume that everyone knows what California is ? Do we assume that everyone knows what Maharashtra (its pretty big) ? Where should I take this up to address this issue more broadly ? I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 02:15, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BNHS

[edit]

That's funny because I first thought about asking you to take a picture (last year?), but then noticed that you hadn't logged in for a long time (it was around the time of your absence), and decided against it. If you could take a picture, that would be great! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:48, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS If you are interested in BNHS stuff, check out some of the pages, Stanley Henry Prater, Walter Samuel Millard, Ethelbert Blatter, Herbert Musgrave Phipson and Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. My original goal was (and still is) to have pages for most of the BNHS naturalists and simultaneously expand the BNHS article itself. (I have access to all the journal volumes going back to 1886.) If you are interested in working on the BNHS article, we could work on it together. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 18:48, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

INRConvert

[edit]

Hi Nichalp, right now the process for updating currencies is manual (just updated it, in fact). We could use a bot to update it if needed on a periodic basis, but manually updating it takes less than a minute to do (I just import the code wholesale into Notepad and do a Find-Replace All with the latest exchange rate). My knowledge of creating bots is limited, so I've used manual updates thus far. What ae your thoughts? Thanks AreJay (talk) 06:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I think it would become an issue if I take a break or go on vacation. I'll put in a bot request sometime today...let's see what they come up with. Thanks AreJay (talk) 14:17, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tamate

[edit]

Hi! Nichalp,

Thanks for helping me with a photo of the Vihar Lake. My article has been accepeted under DYK.

As I was browsing for information on "Tamate", a musical percussion instrumnet used in Karanataka during folk dances and also in procesions, both in celebrations and also in funerals, I came across a web site in which a very strange custom of wearing a Tamate head dress by the dead to breaking into the world of the living has been given. The web site address is: http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/aoa/t/tamate_headdress.aspx The picture shown on the site is from the British museum. The material provided on the web page is definitely encylopedic. Can this picture be downloaded since it is from the Museum? What is the procedure ?Please advise.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:03, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have created and expanded the Bandra Fair article. Do you think it is ready for a DYK.

...that the Bandra Fair in Mumbai was started when a statue of Mother Mary was found floating in the Arabian Sea, which according to a legend, a Koli fisherman had dreamt about few years ago. Kensplanet (talk) 15:32, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nichalp. I'll take a look at the list tomorrow, but in answer to your question, yeah, I'm India-bound for a while. Not Mumbai, sorry, but tourist route -> 20 days or so in Rajasthan before heading to Malaysia. Can't wait...! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:25, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure there's much you can do except, as you say, small fonts. You could consider reducing the number of columns, or adding footnotes for those columns which are so well populated? Skeleton of History of Mumbai done

[edit]

Hello Nichalp. I think the basic structure of the article is done. It would be very helpful if you start copyediting the article. I know there are a lot of details more to be added. But that will be done later. Suggestions and comments will be discussed. Copyediting will give an idea about how much more data needs to be added. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 15:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all. In the mean time, I'll copyedit the article myself and try to complete the article by adding references. Take your own time. There's no hurry. Thanks, KensplanetTalkContributions 11:55, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hi there. I'd really like some help with an issue that has plagued Wikipedia for quite some time. If you're too busy in real life, just let me know.

I'll go straight to the point. You may consider the incident rather trivial, but it's implications aren't.

Do you believe that it is fair and effective for a group of 10 or so editors to effect a change in the way every single Wikipeia music articles are edited and constructed? Editors of Wikipedia:WikiProject Music feel that they have the right to discuss and change the way articles and templates under the project are set up, showing wanton disregard for the views of anyone else outside the project. They ignore the fact the changes they make to their templates affect all of Wikipedia, since we have to use these templates, and seem not to care that an increasing number of editors oppose the change.

A few days ago, the editors had a discussion amongst themselves (see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Music#Out_of_hand, Infobox_Musical_artist#Genre_field and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music) and concluded that it was o.k to remove the genre field from all infoboxes in the music articles (artist and album articles). Their rationale: it reduces edit warring. However, the genre field is extremely useful to these articles, and even if they are removed, there is nothing barring editors from changing any genre related info in the body of the article.

The point I'm trying to make is that it goes against everything Wikipedia stands for, to have a group of editors — and such a small number at that— decide what goes and what stays in every music article. What we have is them saying is this:

"It is compulsory that you use our infobox in every music article. And since it is our infobox, a contingent of 15 editors have decided to control the way every article is set up. We get to decide what goes and what doesn't go in all of the articles regarding music on Wikipedia."

I really can not see the logic in this. Wikipedia should not be governed by these people. Is there any way you can help? Orane (talk) 18:01, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. Thanks for the suggestion. We're probably gonna have to go to mediation with this. Orane (talk) 21:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
