The Sky Riders: An Inventors World Novel

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you deleted the page I made for The Sky Riders. May I ask why?

Thanks, Andy

Edit: Okay, I went ahead and spent a good few hours to create a new page for the book; one that met the requirements of Wikipedia. I'm not trying to 'advertise' a book I wrote, I didn't even write it. It's a good book, and I would like more people to know about it, but I really think that there should be a page for it. Please undelete it. Or please give me permission to recreate the page (Thankfully I saved the page that I made in another document).

- Andy

  • Well, this sure seems like advertising to me: "His prolific writings in both book and blog form have captured the imaginations of loyal readers around the world. ". Regardless, there isn't any showing that this selfpublished book is notable per our standards, WP:V, as shown by reliable independent sources, WP:V. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:50, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just got that from the back of the book; I didn't make that up. :P Why would it not be notable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CrazyAndyMan (talkcontribs) 23:39, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you even think before you delete? What I wrote on Ham or hamming is borne by dictionary and culture! Also Holmes was himself described as 'didactic' by Watson! And he and other detectives/ actors as well, when they go on and on....is called as Hamming! Or as Ham actors or Ham orators! It's up to you now! I am tired! Kalik (band)

[edit]

You deleted an articel i was writing on. As i said i was not done. The band has featured in a major music competition, where they played with bands like Ozzy Osbourne, Black label society.

It's not enough that the band was mentioned on the Danish radio page. Please take a closer look at WP:MUSIC. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:26, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

But its funny, that the Criteria for musicians and ensembles is:

11. Has been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network. 12. Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or TV network.

  • Neither of those meets WP:MUSIC. "Played with", i.e., performing at the same concert, is not one of the criteria. And simply being mentioned on the radio web page is not the same as their music being "in rotation" or their being a "featured subject". NawlinWiki (talk) 21:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Then go read the references. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johndelounge (talkcontribs) 22:00, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool update

[edit]

Hey NawlinWiki. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:47, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SF Camerawork

[edit]

Hi NawlinWiki, I went to create a new page for SF Camerawork only to find that it had been deleted four times in 2008, one of which was by you. You seem to be more active on your talk page than the other editors Fabrictramp (on wikibreak) and Lid, so I thought I would ask you if there are any steps I need to take to create this page. It was a speedy deletion, so there wasn't any discussion, which I believe carries more weight & bureaucratic process re: reinstating. I understand that whatever was there before was not NPOV. I will be writing an NPOV stub with citations. SF Camerawork definitely meets notability: it is one of the more important non-profit photo galleries in the US. It is in the same ballpark as Exit Art, Art in General, Eyebeam Art and Technology Center, or New Langton Arts. Cheers.--Theredproject (talk) 18:50, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hate digging this up, but I'm in the middle of a long Wiki break but came back (shouldn't have) and noticed this edit [[1]]. What has flagged this for me is that User:Abnormally cold and User:Hook free have made identical edits. Hook free has been blocked for being User:The abominable Wiki troll who has a rather long list of confirmed sockpuppets. As I pointed out in June [2] this user is part of a larger number of identical accounts (he claimed as "fellow student(s) with similar interests). Clearly this is one person evading a block. [edit]

Hello. I would like to move a page you have move-protected: Salman Khan (would like to move to replace the redirect Salman Khan (actor) (where it used to be) since I believe any search for Salman Khan should redirect to the dab page. Speedy Deletion of Casey Buckley

[edit]

I see the page was deleted under criteria A7, however, I see this is noted as a lower standard than that of notability. From WP:Music, the first criteria given to meet the notability standard:

"1. Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself.[note 1] This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the following: Any reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves, and all advertising that mentions the musician or ensemble, including manufacturers' advertising.[note 3] Works consisting merely of trivial coverage, such as articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories. Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar), in most cases."

Multiple sources were used in this article, but I point to NJ.Com as well as the television broadcast clip as two separate and reliable independent sources providing non-trivial coverage of the musician's charitable efforts following Hurricane Sandy.

argyle social

[edit]

Sorry I had three references to the software company by notable publications. It seemed to qualify as a notable, if regional, software company. Could you explain where it lacked notability? Thanks. Mindme (talk) 18:53, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't see the significant coverage by reliable independent sources. The only independent sources cited are #1 and #6, which are local coverage essentially just saying that the company obtained financing. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:16, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I had laid this out in the talk page before it was deleted

http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/print-edition/2011/09/16/argyle-growing-in-social-media.html?page=all a rather in-depth article by a notable publication

http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/09/22/1509497/argyle-social-raises-12-million.html a notable publication about the financing

http://www.durhammag.com/blogs/durham-magazine-blog/Local-startup-Sharehammer-provides-sharing-economy-marketplace/ albeit brief mention by a local monthly magazine.

Any advice you could offer on what makes a CRM company notable would be appreciated. I'm trying to flesh out contestants identified by the CRM industry's CRM Idol award as notable. CRM Idol is a big award in the CRM startup industry.

Mindme (talk) 19:55, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • That may be true about CRM Idol, but their site indicates that Argyle is just one of many nominees, and that the awards won't be final until December. Hi, you CSD'd Dr. fred P. Lewis for A3 (Hoax) and G12 (Copyright). Could you explain this please? The copyright violation was cited to http://www.afweather.af.mil/library/biographies/bio.asp?id=10424. This is from a U.S. military website and are public domain, see Wikipedia:C#Works by the United States Federal Government. This site also indicates that it is not a hoax, unless I missed something in the article.

It needs to be retitled and the article probably needs the {{US Air Force}} template for attribution, but it meets notability requirements (see WP:MILPEOPLE, subject was a brigadier general). One proposal

[edit]

Hello,

First of all, thanks a bunch for restoring my page. Second of all, as a new page-creator, I still have a lot to learn when it comes to creating pages. I was wondering if you could help me out with adding this image: http://www.lolearnings.com/img/players/dyrus.png to the infobox.

Thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by SeeminglySubdued (talkcontribs) 15:50, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I don't see any evidence that it's available under a free license. Non-free images to identify people aren't allowed. If it is free, please provide evidence of such, and if not, you'll need to find a different image. Jackmcbarn (talk) 16:10, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback from Technical 13

Hello, NawlinWiki. You have new messages at Anna Frodesiak's talk page.
Message added 17:03, 21 September 2013 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.[reply]

Anna said to defer this to you. :) Technical 13 (talk) 17:03, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just to keep you in the loop, as you have been involved; this article was reposted by its original author after input from you. I have to say that I did not wholly agree with you on this, and deleted it under CSD A7. He re-created it within his own userspace (Existed) from where it has been deleted as CSD G11 by another admin. Sorry if this appears to be going behind your back; I did see your previous involvement and made a judgement call.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:59, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • What did you think about the news articles that the author had cited? I thought that they were at least enough to get the article to AFD. NawlinWiki (talk) 21:00, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • (talk page stalker)I looked at the article that is "buried" by the #REDIRECT a few minutes ago. One "news" reference was a press release. The other was an announcement of another company making an investment in this company. The third was not in English and I didn't bother reading a translation. If I saw this as a Wikipedia Article and the non-English reference was similar to the two English references, I would immediately PROD it and, if the PROD were contested without the article being significantly improved with respect to demonstrating notability, send it to Articles for deletion for discussion about its fate. Bottom line: This needs work to demonstrate that it is notable before moving to main-space or it has a high risk of being deleted through AFD. The author needs to be reminded that most companies do NOT meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 14:57, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Okay, I guess our company should work harder on its references, like do interviews with business magazine or any online business website; to get trusted well known reference in English. Thanks for your time all. Existed (talk) 06:59, 25 September 2013 (UTC) 06:57, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason that Inappropriate external links is private? A lot of FP reports have come in from it lately, and non-admins can't see whether the links are legitimate or not. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:41, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hegel: "thesis, antithesis", etc.

[edit]

Can you explain why editing for the philosopher G.W.F. Hegel has been disabled? It must be updated as soon as possible in order to remove (or flag) questionable content. The long-debunked explanation of Hegel's philosophy following a "thesis-antithesis-synthesis" structure is prominently featured on the page as it stands now. For a refutation, see, for example: [1] In my opinion, these references should be deleted... or at least marked as deriving from a single source which is highly speculative and controversial. I thought this myth was gone for good, but anyone checking Wikipedia will find it alive, well, and unchallenged. JBurke01 (talk) 22:36, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The page is only protected against edits by new users - once you have had an account for 4 days and have 10 edits, you will be able to edit the page. (The page is protected because of repeat attacks by an article vandal who is continually registering new accounts.) In the meantime, you can post a request on the article's talk page for the change that you are discussing to be made. NawlinWiki (talk) 02:39, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for deleting and protecting that page, someone is very persistent with recreating it ;) [6][7]Mayast (talk) 14:39, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening. Could you please clarify why you think that the page JetRadar is insignificant? All travel search engines (kayak.com, skyscanner.com) have pages about them in Wikipedia. Thx. Sergey Sermal1983 (talk) 18:05, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You semiprotected this article for three months for "persistent sockpuppetry" (I noticed only because it happens to be on my watchlist), but I checked purely out of curiosity, and it's been averaging only one or two edits a month. Just wondering if there's a deeper problem with the editing that I missed somehow. (Please feel free to reply via e-mail if that would be more appropriate.) Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 00:04, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ufoboy90 (talk) 18:13, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Hey Nawlin, you deleted a stub article I put up for Nate Bennett-Fleming. I added the article, with a source from the Washington Post, because he's an elected official as a DC Shadow Representative (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_congressperson), and other historical shadow reps have Wikipedia articles. I have never met the man or seem him speak; no conflict of interest here. He's a notable politician, and was elected in a city-wide election. Consider reinstating the deleted material, put it in any form you like.[reply]

FYI

[edit]

You are mentioned at WP:HD in respect of an article that Videotraining (talk · contribs) created which was tagged for speedy deletion and which you deleted. Would appear that this Spanish editor is new and needs some gentle advice re notability and Wikipedia in general. This note is for info and does not imply any criticism of your deletion of said article. Mjroots (talk) 19:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

JetMagic Malta deleted

[edit]

Hello, I've been notified that you've deleted the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JetMagic_Malta . This is quiet surprising since it was pretty factual and did not intend to make promotion for the company. Basically, the content is the same as in the Netjets page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetJets Can you clarify your position please? F7x (talk) 15:53, 27 September 2013 (UTC)F7x[reply]

Supremo

[edit]

The page related to the software Supremo has been speedly deleted for "A7. No indication of importance". It's a software used by over 55.000 users and cited by many forums, sites and some press sites.

It's well known because the public beta has been available to download for free for over a year. I don't understand the lack of indication of importance while many similas software - even in terms of diffusion - are allowed (i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossloop).

A simple Google research would have shown that (https://www.google.it/?gws_rd=cr&ei=nqtFUsfDK6XV4gSUrYHADg#q=supremo+remote+desktop). I really don't get this deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davide Costantini (talkcontribs) 15:58, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Russell Newell - speedy deletion query

[edit]

You deleted my page 'Russell Newell' under the 'notability' rule. Russell has is a photographer and film-maker who has won several recognised awards in both the USA & UK for his work. He has been published many times and his work broadcast on one of the UK's main terrestrial TV channel (links to articles in UK national press were included). He has work that is part of a major museum collection in Cambridge University. His film and photography work in and around Peckham is published and well regarded, and is widely known about and recognised with awards. The article references his work mentioned in the 'Peckham' article. A recent mention of him can be found here for example:

Hi, I thought I'd let you know I've posted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sublime (company)‎‎ for a company already speedily deleted twice in the last day or two, once by you. —Largo Plazo (talk) 22:20, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Dgyeah user page

[edit]

Hi, In August 2010 you deleted my user page. I'm only a periodic contributor so only noticed now. It says in the deletion log that the reason for deletion was: "G5: Creation by a blocked or banned user in violation of block or ban". I think that you may have been mistaken. I'm not aware of being banned, blocked, or even had any sort of issue with another Wikipedia contributor. Please could you review this deletion? Deletion of Richard Kennon

[edit]

So you deleted my page after I made efforts to demonstrate I am the owner of the content and submitted an e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org per instructions to demonstrate I am the owner of the content. Although I aplaud the efforts of Wikepedia to protect copyrighted material, it appears to me that some admins consider themselves all powerful. The Wikepedia instructions are NOT intuitive to say the least, and do not simply describe how to go about rectifying a similar problem. The annotation left on the talk page also said to click on the button to contest the deletion, however I could not locate the button. So, what do we do?
