SCHOOL OF PHYSIOTHERAPY, RK UNIVERSITY

The Physiotherapy or physical therapy one of the most developed health care profession serving the community for health promotion, prevention and care of every individual for improving their quality of life. It is a health care profession which deals with diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals of all ages who have medical problem or other health related conditions that limit their abilities to perform functional activities in their daily lives. School of physiotherapy (SOPT) is one of the multi-disciplinary schools in RK University, is a state private university which is located at Rajkot, Gujarat, India. RK University had been created by the state of Gujarat under private state university act by a gazette notification dated on 12 October 2011. It is situated in RK University Campus, Tramba, Rajkot – Bhavnagar highway, Rajkot, over 40 acres of Green and pollution free campus. SOPT presently have more than 400 students; the class rooms are fully furnished with latest audio-visual aids for lecture. The campus offers separate hostel facilities for boys and girls with wifi enabled. Well developed computerized library with more than 3000 books and e-resources, journals and database for the students. SOPT provides revised educational system and syllabus designed by renowned clinical practitioner and educationalist which is health industry ready syllabus and exam systems adopts a latest semester based credit system. SOPT adopts latest educational technology including active learning, lesson plan for each lecture, bed side teaching and hands on skill and it has attached with well known multispecialty hospitals and physiotherapy centres in heart of the city for clinical training of students.

INCEPTION The inception of SOPT took place in the year 2005. It was first flagships program of RK institutions now it coming under RK University.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND FACULTIES SOPT offers various programs such as • Undergraduate program (Bachelor in Physiotherapy- 8 semesters and six months full time clinical rotational internship) • Postgraduate program (Master in Physiotherapy – four semesters in various specialization) • Doctoral program in physiotherapy (PhD) SOPT has more than 30 well qualified and experienced faculties for improving the academic standards in quality of students and as well as in physiotherapy profession.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS • SOPT is 1st in Gujarat and 6th in India providing BPT, MPT and DOCTORAL (PhD) level program under one roof. • Recognised as top private university offering physiotherapy in Gujarat – seasonal magazine – may 2015 edition. • SOPT was awarded the best college of the year for 2012 in national level by INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSIOTHERAPY (IAP).

BPT PROGRAM • Under graduate syllabus contains Special subjects e.g. university bridging program (UBP), Bio kinesiology, Women’s health, Community and preventive physiotherapy, • Project Based Learning (PBL)

MPT PROGRAM • First semester : Basics of physiotherapy • Second semester: advance in physiotherapy • Third semester : advance in elective studies • Final semester : dissertation work • List of elective 1. PhD PROGRAM SOPT offers admission to PhD program in various specialization including musculoskeletal, neurology, cardio pulmonary and sports etc. Post graduate candidates after clearing required admission test, are eligible to pursue their doctoral study in SOPT, RK University either full-time or externally. EVENTS • PHYSIOFEST is the national level physiotherapy student summit. It is normally organized in the month of April. It has provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and develop their professional skills. • In house book publication rights (ISBN) for physiotherapy news letter “PHYSIOFORUM” • Galore is the annual Sports and Cultural festival of the RK University. It is normally organized in the month of February by student and faculties. Huge number of students from various other local colleges also takes part in the festival.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVES SOPT also engages itself in fulfilling its various social obligations by serving in many ways to the local community. Some of the initiatives undertaken by SOPT are • RK Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Research Centre in heart of the city - Rajkot. • In campus physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre serving for more than 30 villages around it. • Founded Rajkot Knee Club (RKC). • Founded Parkinson’s Disease Support Group (PDSG). • Environment audit cell SCHOLORSHIP K. S. Patel Scholarship Awards is the Scholarship program of RK University, whereby students are benefitted by this initiative. A number of 12th science students across 1100 schools of Gujarat takes part in the program every year and gets the benefit.
