An update from Narky Blert
[edit]Thank you all for your good wishes, and belated Seasons' Greetings. Password recovery is proving tiresome (rather than troublesome), so I've created this alternate account for use during what I hope will be a limited time. Narky Blert (alt) (talk) 15:53, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

The Cruel Sea
[edit]Gonna (re)watch The Cruel Sea, which reminded me of a story. Years back, I had written a piece that heavily featured the HMS Eagle. So a few months later, I'm sitting at the El Al business lounge, getting fuckin' wasted, as I do, and I just happen to meet this guy who served on the Eagle. Anyway, we got drunk and he told me nautical tales. ⚓ El_C 20:03, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- @El C: The wartime RN propaganda film was In Which We Serve, in which upper lips were very much kept stiff; its star and director coincidentally featured recently in another of our exchanges.
- Small-ship actions don't feature much in film; they were often somewhat one-sided and have predictable endings, as for example with HMS Glowworm and USS Johnston.
- If you're interested in naval history, I recommend drachinifel's YouTube channel. He knows his stuff and has a dry sense of humour. Narky Blert (talk) 09:11, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm just about wrapping up Discworld adaptations that don't suck. Fun in the sun! El_C 09:30, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

You were so silent I didn't even notice you missing, and now read about hospital and missing password ...: best wishes for 2022! Thank you for resuming musical inspiration! I was on vacation, so a bit absent-minded. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:21, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Bach's No. 1 today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:06, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I'd seen that. Do you think that "Morning Star" in the translated title should be capitalised, as a proper name? The other aspect of the planet Venus is capitalised in "Song to the Evening Star"; though that is necessary because of WP:TITLECASE (a guideline I detest). Narky Blert (talk) 16:23, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- In 1599, who cared about our rulez about capitalisation ;) - they had the plague --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:22, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Ukraine day today: Maks Levin DYK, expanding Kyiv Symphony Orchestra (have tickets), and creating Anthony Robin Schneider, the bass who could be heard opening the singing in Beethoven's Ninth twice on 10 March 2022, live in Frankfurt, Germany, and recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, singing "Freiheit!"
