Post from another editor

the edit was actually changed. please take a look at the edit. CashRules (talk) 14:04, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I did. I reviewed the article talkpage reverts, then your talkpage. You received a 3RR from a different editor. Then, you incorrectly warned another. That's why I gave you some advice. --Morenooso (talk) 14:09, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: user:AlbertsRevenge

Hello, I just noticed you deleted the re-creation of this user's file. I left a username warning on its talkpage. I get the feeling he might be doing attack pages or bent on vandalism. Morenooso (talk) 14:01, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, so far it is the usual "I am cool, look at me" stuff. I wouldn't say that the user name is a blatant violation of the username policy. Either way i have a feeling that this editor is likely going to be a one-day fly as his only contributions so far are listing himself. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 14:10, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. --Morenooso (talk) 14:13, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Stupid loss of data session

Man, this stupid loss of data session is killing me! It's not too bad when I am posting a warning or adding something to a talkpage like a wikiproject but it just happened while I tried to save some citations to Pizzo Coca that I'm working on. Grrrr, oops - that's the dark bear in me growling! --Morenooso (talk) 12:29, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks; I've noticed it :-) By the way, have you considered editing in Notepad? Simple copy/pasting would make loss-of-data-session errors less problematic, since you'd still have the text. Nyttend (talk) 12:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I figured you knew. I've got a better trick for loss of data sessions that involves my userpage "work area" and Yahoo email. First, I open a new email and set it to "Plain Text" which means it doesn't do markup. Then I open a new file on what I am working on - in this case User:Morenooso/Pizzo Coca Mountain. This helps if an article I'm working on gets edits from another editor as this will prevent the "Edit Conflict" post thingie. Sometimes I will lose my work if an Edit Conflict happens. By posting first in MyYahoo email, it will automatically save every couple of minutes or whenever I hit "Save as Draft". Then, I save to the userspace file making sure that the edits and citations work before I edit the main article. This one is complicated because half the articles are in Italian. While Italian is similar to Spanish, not all the works connect or translate which is why I need Google translations. While on Page Patrol, I have been looking for new files that I can nominate for a DYK. DYK noms are much more fun than going up against your average vandal. --Morenooso (talk) 13:05, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Burpelson AFB - I luv Dr. Strangelove. I ought to watch that movie today as it makes me feel patriotic when you "go toe to toe with the Russkies."
Now, where was I? Oh, well now if only Wikipedia had a WYSIWYG editor. I'd kill for something that could hide the markups and citations until I need to see them. --Morenooso (talk) 13:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Don't know why but sometimes clicking my username in the upper right will log me out too. I *think* Jimbo put that in just for idiots like me to see if I would catch being logged out. Like right now. 76.240.70.202 (talk) 21:48, 12 May 2010 (UTC)--Morenooso (talk) 21:50, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Pizzo Coca

Yes, sorry; good luck with the work. Ericoides (talk) 14:06, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Freaked me out. It happened yesterday too. When you are looking at Wikipedia's black-and-white screen and see that edit conflict message, it makes me cringe because I have lost big edits that way. That's why as per other editors I have modeled, I do one or two lines at a time but even that can be challenging with an edit conflict. As Chick Hearn used to say, No harm, no foul. And, the eggs are in the fridge, . . .
Besides, there is a slight, slight 66 bytes difference in my userspace file. I could probably compare them but I think I have an extra thingie or two in the userspace version. --Morenooso (talk) 14:24, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
It happens to me from time to time too and yes, it's infuriating. I think it's just one of those things that one has to learn to live with. If I'm doing a big edit I always highlight and copy the section I have been working on; if there's a conflict, I look at the diff and try and integrate the changes (that have been made by the other person that have led to the conflict) into my edit, which I then paste in and save. This generally works well if the other person's changes are minor. As a rule it's not good to make and save hundreds of minor edit as it stresses the servers/memory. Hope you see the point of my cat changes... Ericoides (talk) 14:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I've learning the highlighting trick as I will copy my post before I hit the Save Page button. Then, I keep the old session open and open another "fresh" tab to see what caused the conflict. Like you, I then attempt to incorporate my edits/pasting. BTW, I just had the ultimate edit conflict situation. --Morenooso (talk) 14:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh great, another editor showed up! I wonder if I colored in my corner, quietly. . .--Morenooso (talk) 14:48, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Two words of advice that might be of use: 1. Don't submit something to DYK until you're finished with it. People see things there and love to tweak them. 2. Given that Pizzo Coca is in Europe, it might be a good idea to work on it when Europeans are asleep - ie your afternoon (?) if you're in CA. Ericoides (talk) 15:51, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm learning as I go. This is my sixth nom if I remember correctly and the second time I've substantiantially improved an article. Initially when I did my first series of edits after its creation, I thought it had the proper length. I was EXCITED and thought, "Wow, I'm going to nominate it for DYK. Well, you can see that at least three DYK reviewers have either visited the nom, my talkpage or the article. I could have stopped last night as it had the length but I don't like doing things that way. It would nice to have someone approve the initial hook but I understand that some of the reviewers may want to see "a final product" or as per the way DYK reviews go - let the article sit in the fridge ala Chick Hearn's observation - The eggs are in the fridge. . .. Nothing is ever easy for me. Why start now? --Morenooso (talk) 16:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Re; May 2010

The maintenance tag is on the top of article. No need tho have it on top of a subsection.--166.32.193.81 (talk) 14:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Once again you completely fail to understand these things. How about actually doing some study of Wikipedia policies instead of constantly inventing your own pseudo policies?! Afterwriting (talk) 14:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Nope. --Morenooso (talk) 14:56, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
My message was actually directed at the anonymous editor and his eccentric understanding of policies. Sorry this wasn't clearer. Afterwriting (talk) 16:26, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Then, you should be on its talkpage with a DIFF. My talkpage is not the place for your conversation with the anon IP. Either take it there or stay on the appropriate article talkpage. --Morenooso (talk) 16:30, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

CRYSTAL on Power Rangers

It's in the references cited, so WP:CRYSTAL does not really apply and that tag sould not have been added at all.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 00:57, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, I'll take a look. Did you already remove it? I've been busy working on an article. --Morenooso (talk) 01:02, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
What I didn't like about the cited URL is this statement:
  • Saban has cut a deal with Nickelodeon for 20 new "Power Rangers" episodes, while the library of some 700 older segs will begin airing on cabler Nicktoons later this year.
As per WP:CRYSTAL, it's notable because of the parties involved but there is no statement about when the episodes will film, be run or who will decide EVEN if they run. I see that you already reverted me so mach nix. --Morenooso (talk) 01:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Very nice work. Sorry I create many mountain stubs but I think it important for english to have them. Please expand any of the others, this was why I start them. I will create more from other regions in future. Thankyou.Starzynka (talk) 21:32, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Mountains are not my specialty. I have been thinking about asking the WikiProject Mountains to give the article a groom-over to bring it up to B status. I bet I made some rookie mistakes. ----moreno oso (Growl here) 21:36, 13 May 2010 (UTC) What exactly is your specialty, since you seem to disregard anyone who talks about something you do not know about? Seriously if you don't know what you are talking about, why mess with the subject?

WHY ARE YOU NOT ALLOWING ME TO POST CONTRIBUTIONS?

WHAT DID I DO WRONG THAT MY ARTICLE WAS TAKEN DOWN? I THOUGHT WIKIPEDIA WAS SUPPOSED TO ALLOW ANYONE TO ADD A NEW SUBJECT? Please delete if you do not listen to others...or respond with useful insight

Why do you delete valid pages without knowing anything about that which you delete. It defeats the purpose of wikipeda. I see no value in contributing when a person like you just deletes an article within 22 seconds of it being posted. Wikipedia warns users of abuse of speedy deletion, and I see now what they mean. Your name appears on many message boards as one who gives people no chance to contribute, and thus your position in "assisting" wikipedia is beyond helpful when you conduct yourself in this manner. Deleting new articles just because they are new is senseless. I am not trying to insult you personally, but merely pointing out the fact that if you take upon yourself the notion that any term or subject you known nothing about automatically constitutes the need for deletion, you might as well just start your own website which is titled "Subjects only I am interested or known anyting about" Please consider this, as your reputation is becoming well known on . http://www.bioscience.ws/encyclopedia/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/United_States_of_America http://manojranaweera.com/2007/01/08/wikipedia-sucks-no-it-doesnt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Imageboard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Loyola_Academy/Archive_1 http://www.privacycore.info/index.php?q=aHR0cDovL2VuLndpa2lwZWRpYS5vcmcvd2lraS9XaWtpcGVkaWE6V2lraVByb2plY3RfRGVsZXRpb25fc29ydGluZy9SZWxpZ2lvbg%3D%3D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Spanish_profanity http://www.bioscience.ws/encyclopedia/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard http://www.amwwag.com/index.php?option=com_awiki&view=mediawiki&article=Wikipedia%3AHelp_desk&Itemid=109.' If your article or post has been deleted by Morenooso, you are not alone apparently

This seems to be the standard. Spend time making a useful article, and DELETE! contest it. DELETE! Ask for advice..DELETE! Get the picture? WHY? Either you do not want others posting new information, or they use deletion to feel more important. Sadly there are those who enjoy detruction over constructon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.183.35.129 (talk) 23:13, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Why does every new post get deleted?

Reading through the opening guidelines it specifies following the recommended template. Regardless 10 people show up to nominate a basic piece for deletion with threats. What the heck is this? Thanks for the note; however, I derived the coords from a partial description that I found, and I was hoping that the other user — it's VitaleBaby, whom I asked back in February — would have had an idea of its location from personal knowledge. Nyttend (talk) 00:11, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey there Morenooso, thank you for your contributions. I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. Albert W. Barney

Here is an article I started Albert W. Barney-he was chief justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. Are you into politicians and jurists? Also I am looking into the possibility of starting articles on the Roman Catholic bishops of the Diocese of Fairbanks-Thank you again-RFD (talk) 22:20, 13 May 2010 (UTC) PS Will take a look at the Bishop Broderick draft-RFD (talk) 22:20, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I like early California politicians but have gotten way laid recently on various DYK noms. The Pizzo Coca was a major effort and I found an AfD that I want to save. It's my big project that will fill the next five days or so. Hopefully Yhit searches will garner citations. I will take a look later tonight. I was just about to head out the door. ----moreno oso (Growl here) 22:26, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I like early Wisconsin politicians-some of them are pretty interesting in that they sometimes go elsewhere-and served in other offices in other states-RFD (talk) 22:35, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Judge Barney served in the Vermont House of Representatives in 1951 according to his obituary of May 13, 2010 in the Caledonian-Record-Best wishes many thanks-RFD (talk) 14:03, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Cool. Could you look up in VT history who he replaced and who replaced him. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:06, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
The Vermont General Assembly publish the Vermont Legislative Directory but apparently it is not on the computer. I do know the Wisconsin Blue Books are on the computer. Also there is a database of who was/is in the California legislature. You will see this as a citation in the Steele and Vineyard articles. My recommendation about the Barney article is that he served briefly in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1951 until 1952 when he became superior court judge. This all you probably need for right now-Thanks-RFD (talk) 14:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Then, I will stop editting the article. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:54, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. This is all due to Nyttend. Now, when I do New Page patrol, I look for articles that I can nominate. Sometimes it requires work like Pizzo Coca. That article was way out of my league. And, while I like science, geology and other "ologies" that apply to that article, pulling it together required a massive effort. Kind of wore me out which is why I asked you to help Tajm. ----moreno oso (talk) 12:49, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Elijah Steele/James Russell Vineyard

Elijah Steele and James Russell Vineyard served in the Wisconsin State Legislature. Both went to California and served in the California State Legislature. Vineyard shoot another legislator in the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature, was tried and acquitted. That did not stop the voters from electing him to the Wisconsin Legislature or Wisconsin constitution convention. Thanks-RFD (talk) 12:04, 15 May 2010 (UTC)PS Many thanks for your editing of the Albert Barney article-

I'll take a look. But, I do have an article or too ahead of them. I need to work on some WP:California stuff and these guys might qualify. ----moreno oso (talk) 12:51, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Core members of Universes

I am trying to add all the members of the company and we all have similar credits as we've been working together for 13+ years. Our "notable" histories are connected to UNIVERSES poetic theater ensemble. Do you have any suggestions? Please Advise. I want to add Gamal Chasten and myself as well, how do you suggest I go about it?

As you are connected with that group, you need to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. In a nutshell, if you're famous someone else will write about you. If you're not and attempting to self-create an article here on Wikipedia, you have a Conflict of Interest and should not be editting articles about yourself. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:34, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, The user name I chose is the user name I use in all my email accounts, i.e. mredruiz@hotmail.com & mredruiz@gmail.com. To save my self the trouble of forgetting, I try to maintain uniformity, in no way was I trying to be deceiving in any way. I have also been reaching out to several contributors about help with the info I have been contributing. As a founding member of UNIVERSES a National "Critically" Acclaimed Ensemble company, I have expressed to many that the company and its members have made and continues to make notable contributions to the field of American Theater. I hope that other and perhaps even yourself might be able to contribute to the pages. Would you, perhaps, like to help with making the history of this Ensemble and its members accessible to people on WIKIPEDIA. It's funny because we are currently at The American Repertory Theater (Cambridge, MA) performing for Students at Harvard University and I still have to try and explain why UNIVERSES' contributions matter in the History of American Theater. Please Advise.

Obviously, you did not look good enough. The number one Yhit showed she was a Fulbright program scholar. That was very easy to check at the US State Department website. I had a friend who was one of their scholars and went to Stanford. It was a big deal as our Congressman showed up at our po-dunk high school with press in hand to make the announcement. You would have thought this was the end of the earth as the entire school was gathered outside to witness this. Then to go to a major film festival like the Tribeca Film Festival and compete in the same year's category as Kirsten Dunst and receive the second place Special Jury Mention is not notable? If receiving a Fulbright scholarship doing what she's gone, all as an Iranian American woman (who is just a teenager yet) is notable by WP:ANYBIO, Criteria one which states something to the effect that the subject has won a "notable award", then go figure. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:08, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Paschal Tosi/Jean Baptst Rene

Serra

Thanks for your note. I guess different editors have different interests. So long as site policies are followed that's OK. Often, conflicts between editors can lead to improvements in articles. They can also lead to editors getting banned. If you're in a dispute with an editor always make sure to avoid edit warring or incivility. While the name of Wikipedia implies fast results, in my experience it's better to take things slowly.   Will Beback  talk  23:17, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I think some of anon IPs might have something to say about that. Plus, I know two friends that went through RfAs. The first got it on his fourth try and it was a major concerted effort which I can't describe fully here. In fact, he was a great copyeditor and is no longer active on Wikipedia. The second is doing well but we have distanced ourselves so as not to show favoritism. He's a great Wiki-Defender which is what I used like hanging my hat on. These days, I seem to be racking up a "save-of-the-day" which takes a lot out of me. It's much easier to be a Defender rather than a savior. The mop would be nice but I would probably take at least two to three RfAs. It's the bear in me - he loves sleeping in the woods, defending his turf while stealing picnic baskets. If it weren't for all the "Ranger Smiths" of the park, he'd be a happy moreno oso. ----moreno oso (talk) 16:55, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm kind of surprised that no one picked up on the note I left on the nom page. About the bell, are you taking about Bell or the refusal to buy a new one? Hi -- I've nom'd another, that you might want to take a look at here. Tx.--Epeefleche (talk) 07:48, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not exactly sure what you want me to look at. I really don't do sports articles. I don't follow baseball much any more because IMHO it is one pro sport just above roller derby what with all the antics going on it. I am really turned off by the drug issue. I remember being caught up in the bash bros (Canseco and McGuire. When I had a chance to see Mc in StL SRO, I took it. Now knowing that he most likely did not do it all on his own is great disappointment. I don't follow any teams except for on the West Coast and even then I could only name a handfull of players. Sorry, but if I read what the reviewers are saying, the article has issues and I wouldn't know how to fix them. ----moreno oso (talk) 10:46, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Haha. No worries. I think I addressed the two issues raised by the editors, but if you think I didn't that would be good to know. The worst thing about the drugs -- the players union was so long that they mandated that the identities of those who failed tests be kept secret. Not good.--Epeefleche (talk) 22:29, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Not sure. I just woke from a combat nap. Sorry but I don't know enough about him to really make a considered opinion. ----moreno oso (talk) 23:31, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Bear time

  1. Wash hands.
  2. Do what bears do in the woods.
  3. Spray air freshner.
  4. Go for walk in the woods in 30 minutes or so.

Robert John Armstrong

I removed the "SJ" you placed after Bishop Armstrong's name. He wasn't a Jesuit, nor did the references you placed there prove the case. He did graduate from a Jesuit College, Gonzaga, and consequently would have had Jesuit classmates. There is no reference to his professing religious vows in the Society of Jesus, however. That is required for the "SJ" to be placed after his name, not graduation from a Jesuit institution. I graduated from Saint Louis University, also Jesuit run, and had friends and classmates who were Jesuits, but I was not. The evidence shows he was a diocesan priest from Seattle and Spokane. (I missed Spokane, good find!)

Thanks for adding all the other information. I've simply been trying to get pages on Catholic bishops written and hoping others would add to them.Farragutful (talk) 20:06, 21 May 2010 (UTC) (Forgot to sign this previously.)

None of the articles you cite say he was a Jesuit; none of them place an "SJ" after his name. Being associated with Jesuit institutions only means he has an association. The seminary he attended in Montreal is to train diocesan clergy. He would have attended a seminary for Jesuits only. Gonzaga is not a seminary. It was used by the Jesuits to educate their scholastics as undergrads or as a place to study philosophy, not graduate-level theology for ordination. (They may have gone there for Ph.D. studies, but I'm not sure what the school offered at the time, or now, for that matter.) His reception of an honorary degree as an alumnus of Gonzaga is only that and nothing more. Also, non-Jesuits are premitted to speak, and teach for that matter, at Jesuit institutions.

There is evidence that he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Seattle. His assignments as a priest are also consistent with assignments of a diocesan priest, not a religious order priest (Jesuits staff their own parishes, especially in the early 20th century). There is no evidence that he attended a Jesuit novitiate or professed vows after ordination.

Note the listing of the Jesuits in the article on the retreat, they all have an "SJ" after their names and Bishop Armstrong does not. Bishops who were members of religious communities prior to being named a bishop continue to use the initials of their religious communities after their episcopal consecration/ordination. Also note, the retreat is under his patronage as diocesan bishop at a Jesuit retreat house. While another association, it doesn't mean he's a Jesuit. Plenty of bishops have supported retreats at Jesuit retreat houses; it doesn't make them Jesuits. His mother's funeral at a church named St. Aloysius (Gonzaga--a Jesuit Scholastic at his death) doesn't make him a Jesuit either. It's another association.

I'm sorry to say, but you are incorrect and have not provided any source that even suggests he was a Jesuit. You NEED PROOF that he PROFESSED VOWS as a Jesuit, not associations with the Society of Jesus or its institutions. You need to remove the “SJ”; otherwise this article is in error in this instance.Farragutful (talk) 20:06, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

File:Eparchy of Parma.jpg

Sorry to say, but I've tagged this image for deletion — someone could easily replace it with a free image that conveys the same information. You could take an image such as File:Blank US Map.svg, crop it to just the states in the eparchy, and add dots to show the parishes; it would work just as well as the current image, but it would be free. I'm confused: what do you mean? WP:TROUT? Nyttend (talk) 17:24, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
It's in one of my archived talkpage discussions. A while back on Page Patrol, I saw an edit summary of quote, trout me. Being the uh, err, uh dirty minded kind of guy I am, I thought it had something to do with um, er, trousers or something to that effect. Hence, I explained in a bear type musing that trout me must be some kind of "hip hop slang" thingie and I'm really out the loop on new phrases. While on my most current nominee's talkpage, he had a userbox saying something to the effect that this user like getting trouted. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:29, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

It may be in the article. The eastern rite took over the property which used to belong to some rich guy. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:17, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
You're good.----moreno oso (talk) 14:34, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, found it; the National Register gives "Mt. St. Macrina" as an alternate name. I was somewhat confused by the location, since no Uniontown properties were listed in 1999; it turns out that it's outside the city. Nyttend (talk) 14:36, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

  • (edit conflict)I've found that while working on Bell's article, there is a wealth of articles that need attention for this rite. That's why I created Emil Mihalik's article. It's not that "I" am censoring you or your people as you put it. Wikipedia has at its core, WP:V (the ability to be verified) and WP:RS (reliable sources. When I did a google search on the term, it did draw what I considered reliable sources. 300 Club references

Greetings. You tagged the 300 Club article as needing more reliable references. Since your tag, I have added a Reuters news article that gives the whole story, and a news article from a US-government sponsored news organ that makes a passing reference. I have not edited much of late, so I am unsure what the standard of references is these days. Is there more that should be added here? Thanks, Mlouns (talk) 05:50, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

If you have a good reliable source that covers the entire article, I'd put it in a Sources section. Otherwise, you might want to have several inline citations available. I don't believe that there is a standard (but I could be wrong). Generally, when I build an article, I like to have at least one source and five different reliably sourced citations to bring it out of Stub status.----moreno oso (talk) 05:53, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
I do like that Reuters one. It really covers almost the entire article. If you could find two different ones and if the club has an official website that is not a blog, you'd probably be okay. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:58, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps the idea of "miner 49er" and bishop sounded odd? It's not a very common combination :-) The article on Bell is somewhat more than 2,000 characters, but if I were reviewing it at T:TDYK, I'd oppose it because much of it is uncited. Could you improve the sourcing? Nyttend (talk) 22:18, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
No, not actually. There's a book on his predessor at the suppressed diocese. It's called something like Condemned to the Mines. Manogue was a miner and 49er is used to describe him in several places. I had an idea it would be a perfect hook. As to Bell, don't nominate. I need to work on it. I just wanted to point it out to you. I have several citations I am working on and workspace file. But, vandal patrol is keeping me busy. Raider fans are trying to polish up Russell who has been reported as a bust. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:23, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Ha, ha. A thousand comedians out of work and you're making it tougher on them. Was there some kind of lawnfest you couldn't miss? Kind of bums me out because it would lent balance to his article. I periodically do my YTrikc to get Yhits: Yahoo'em; Scoogle'em, Google'em and GoogleNews'em:
Scroogle is a great to get hits from Google. I read it about it several years when some advanced users figure out a way to have Google's search engine perform anonymized searches without the evil Google empire getting your info. No lawnmowing festival: I'm starting grad school in August, and I was visiting the city to try to work out housing arrangements. Mowing's been hard lately; we're getting enough rain that the grass is almost never dry. As for the paywalled articles — they're entirely valid, as long as they were actually published. You could try to cite them as you would print versions of the stories, or you could cite them as you would cite freely-accessed articles. Like print sources, paywalled online sources are acceptable as long as you provide a full citation for verifiability purposes: many or most editors can't access them, but if they appear reliable, we'll use them. You may want to save the articles that you buy, because there's a policy (can't remember which one it is) that says that editors who challenge a citation to a source that's not easily available can require a quotation from the source to be included with the citation. Nyttend (talk) 04:05, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
I kind of guessed that gradboy (is that in the iconic language - talking about you and not saving the articles which I would anyway). It may take a day or two for the ones I want and I'll spend about $12 on this if it yields good results. A second hit came up with the fact this lasted more than six days. If I remember correctly, this was a pro-tracted stand-off that would balance his article nicely. Now, if we just get a good editor to write that part instead to sluggo me. I wonder if the Foundation can accept them in some way as a PDF or however they are transmitted. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:12, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

The wrist thing is meant seriously: in other words, "this user has injured his wrist, so he might not be very active on Wikipedia until it heals." As far as Bell, yes, I can do the nomination. I don't have a tool that measures article length, if that's what you mean; I simply copy/paste the text of the article (minus the headers and the links to the references) into Notepad, change the text to Courier New, and get the text into lines of 100 characters each. Nyttend (talk) 22:03, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

BB is starting to get YTrikc hits. There are some NY Times extracts that could be used for a ref or two. In the last two days, three free articles have popped up. I have noticed that when I use a cite with a Google News URL complimentary or other newspaper articles get flushed out. I think if I counted correctly last night, I have seven DYK noms on the recommended page. I asked the WikiProject Mountains talkpage to take a look at Pizzo Coca, which is one of my noms, in the hopes of getting its class upgraded. If they polish it off, it could easily be an FA article. I want to get Mihalek's article nominated which is why I need to finish it off with a couple of RS citations. I have two planned and working on a third that just appeared. After that I have two articles in the hopper that I will work on next week. Let's see: 106% of nothing is better than a sharp stick in the eye! You ought to ask for 12 percent and whittle him down to nine. ;) ----moreno oso (talk) 14:57, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, I *know* you did more than just nail a sockpuppet as I saw your name in several places as I did Page Patrol last night. It's nice to see names you know being wingmen.----moreno oso (talk) 15:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Wow, that MascotGuy article almost reads like a DYK or FA article. I wonder if a sockpuppet has ever been *rightfully* featured on Wikipedia's front page? ----moreno oso (talk) 15:43, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm, I wonder if I should ask Jimbo for a raise? I gotta be worth at least two to three percent of PMDrive1061. Let's do the math: PMD goes in for 112, I should do 109 and settle for no less than 106 percent of nothing. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:36, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

North Star Camp for Boys

Extended content

Hello,

I'm very new at this wikipedia thing, so bear with me :) I wasn't sure where to discuss the 'speedy deletion' so I've put it here and on the page's talk section... here's what i wrote:

Hello, I have just written this article and was wondering why it needs to be deleted? It seems to fit with most of the other summer camp pages, including (but not limited to) the following:

Sure there are much more detailed articles of summer camps out there, but I think thats something that can be developed over time.

Its my first time writing an article, so if it does get deleted, could you tell me how to improve it so it will survive?... Do I need to go more into the history of the camp? or the alumni? or the location?

I hope you can help.

Please don't delete in haste, its not vandalism or biased advertisement... just information :)

Regards,

Rrjnr

PS: at the very least... isn't this article important to solve/squash the rumour that this camp is the one from the film Meatballs in 1979?

... and also, its only a stub, aren't they meant to be short :(

I see that you do a lot of work for it and I understand the importance of keeping a certain standard, but I would like to learn how to make my article better and hopefully begin contributing more and more :)

Thanks in advance for any help or advice :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rrjnr (talkcontribs) 06:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

The CSD deletion notice has wikilinks for you to read which will tell you why your article may not be notable. You should read WP:FIRST. Then I would recommend that you build an article in your sandbox or as a userfile. This is done on your userpage by typing:
  • [[/filename]]

(edit conflict)That will create the file for you to work on and build citations and everything needed to be considered a noteworthy article. All articles have to be notable. BTW, Wikipedia is not judged by "if we have this article A, then we should a similar article B. That is WP:OTHERSTUFF. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Pizzo Coca

Hi, are you aware of this article: Pizzo di Coca? --Aqwis (talk) 15:29, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

I found out about it at the mountain WP about four days ago. You can read all my notes on Pizzo Coca's talkpage. I based my work slightly after the Italian Wikipedia version but mostly or only on the public domain pictures available and the Bergamo Alps. I also used extensively the generic Alps article. The Bergamo Alps provided the infobox while the Italian version supplied the coordinates. The Alps article was the basic shell I modeled my effort off of. I then went to the mountain WP and referenced/learned how they built articles which I also referenced on Pizzo Coca (PC)'s talkpage.
When on the mountain WP's talkpage I was made aware of the stub article you now reference, somebody there said that PC should be merged into it. If anything, PdC is the merge candidate and probably should just be deleted as it does not have anything that PC does not. I knew then and have said since that I am no expert on building a mountain article. It's way out of my editting league. On the second day I hit the wall, so to speak, because I had put in all I could to the PC article. All this is partially documented in the DYK nom. I believe it is archived but reads pretty much as what I put in this User:Morenooso/DYK nom workspace nom. Even Burpelson AFB used the Italian version to put some info in my effort. However, I thought he was working with one of the translations I placed on the PC talkpage. Drove me nuts as it wasn't until a day later that I figured out that he used a translation of the Italian version for his input. My Pizzo Coca effort is all documented because I knew that there might be questions I would need answers to and it was easier to keep them handy on its talkpage. BTW, User:Morenooso/Pizzo Coca Mountain has almost all the same notes as I built mostly from my workspace article. And, looking again at it, I remember keying off the Bergamo Alps wikilink as it was pretty much all I had to go as per the first and second DIFF. The Italian version really helped me or as I would tell friends, "saved my bacon" because it had the basic infobox and pix I needed.
Recommend deleting Pizzo di Coca as per Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mountains#Pizzo_Coca. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:39, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

CSD declined for Markus Highway

Just to let you know that the article Markus Highway is not a candidate for speedy deletion, as one of the band members is a notable performer. Stephen! Coming... 15:56, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Also, I have reverted it to its previous BLPPROD state. The IP removed the tag without providing a valid source. – B.hoteptalk16:03, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually, BLPPROD isn't so clear on the band issue, so I have removed it for now pending further investigation. However, feel free to take to AfD in the meantime. All the best! – B.hoteptalk16:23, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

WP:BAND says two or more notable individuals are needed for the ensemble to be deemed notable. And, reviewing his article doesn't seem noteworthy to me either. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:17, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Seems to me that WP:BAND should take priority or override the BLP PROD issue too. This is a band article with names in it. It would be no different than any other CSD or PROD that a wikilinked name in an article. And, I'll let you gents do the AfD noms. I've already spent as time as I want or needed to on tracking down the anon IP who is disrupted the initial vandalistic redirects. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:47, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I've redirected it to Marcus Adoro. The one below, I've had another look (now that I've had time to do it properly!) and, coupled with a second CSD placed by someone else, deleted it. I think that ties it all up, no? Good work, keep it up. :) – B.hoteptalk20:19, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Not bad!! Than anon IP may have done more good in disrupting the PRODs versus letting them stand. I think the anon IP is either one of the contributers or connected to the bands.
Listen, you seriously ought to ask Jimbo about a raise. I heard he gave somebody a six percent raise recently. As I told another admin, you do good work, are quick, polite and follow up on matters nicely. I'd shoot for 115% and whittle him down to 110%. Granted 10 percent more of nothing paid for volunteer work is still nothing but it's the uh, ah principle of the matter. ----moreno oso (talk) 20:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey, I already tried a seven month strike over pay and conditions in this place. It got me nothing... but a bit of peace and quiet! Cheers. – B.hoteptalk20:33, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Seriously, though, I still don't know what to do with this... – B.hoteptalk20:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I do know what to do about that which is why I tagged it. If notability is not shown or citations provided, cleanup will commence and could lead to an CSD, PROD or AfD. I seriously doubt the band has won any notable awards. I did want to send it to CSD because someone could decline the CSD asserting the band is notable for having won an award. This way the article either needs to be improved by proper citations or it will be subject to the proper Wikipedia policies and processes.
As for your seven month strike, I know a thing about hibernating myself. If you look at my namesake's picture on my userpage, "brown bear" or moreno oso needs his toe nails clipped after coming out of a year hibernation too. Still, Jimbo's weak right now as his user talkpage has been used like a doormat for just about anyone who wants to bypass admins or the proper channels for resolution. I *suggest* you move while he's still reeling. ----moreno oso (talk) 20:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I check my email for less than two minutes and you went with Hellfire missiles. Can I see a replay? ----moreno oso (talk) 20:46, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
It was a massive copyvio. Don't know why I didn't see it before. Btw, I don't have Jimbo's page on my watchlist and I don't think I've ever posted there either. Some stones are best left unturned, gathering moss... or some other "out in the wild" analogy befitting a great bear like yourself! – B.hoteptalk20:49, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I am kind of surprised he has let it go on for so long. There's a saying my Mr. Ranger Sir has: DON"T POKE THE BEAR!!! Jimbo has been getting poked so often lately that he might as well change his name to Gumby because he's either so mellow or flexible - regardless of what some people think of him. If it had been me with a founder's rights, it might be a different story as I enjoy The Prince. Machiavelli slays me. . . ----moreno oso (talk) 20:54, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Tanya Markova

Re: your note to me on AfD Tanya Markova - this is ridiculous. All I did was create a redirect to Markov years ago. Your beef is with anons who changed it into something else. There is no need to AfD - if you feel the article in the current stage is poor, simply revert it back to the redirect. Mhym (talk) 18:09, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Listen as far "as me placing a note to you on that article", I placed a standarized AfD notice on the article. If you've committed sins in your past, I am unaware of them til now. However, I will say your real beef is with the anon IP who started off this affair by disrupted Wikipedia by declining PRODs. It stirred the hornets' nest and now other editors have been drawn to at least five articles as a result. And, if those articles don't meet notability requirements you only have it and yourself to blame. Being that is now an AfD, you have seven days to prove your article is notable. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:19, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, speak into the mike so to speak - if you know what I mean. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:20, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't know what you mean by "speak into the mike" but since the article is deleted I consider the matter moot. I really can't recall why I created this redirect. Mhym (talk) 23:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Speak into the mike is military speak for ask, and it shall be given. And, what do you know? Besides, as a famous Roman said, "The walls have ears." ----moreno oso (talk) 23:37, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Re: Edit war on Sara Zandieh

Extended content

Hi!

I noticed you warned A.m.c.1.9.9.9 about editwarring, when this appears to be a newcomer trying to expand the article with more information (sourced or not). Fair enough telling them about the requirement for sourcing, but it seems that quite a few people have been a bit WP:BITEy to the user, and it's important to remember that everyone was a newcomer once. Thanks. Stwalkerstertalk ] 21:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but he's been a little too agressive and was a little too agressive as other editors cited him first. And, if you will review the history of Sara Zandieh, you'll see that I saved his article first from a PROD and then an AfD. Then, I *bit* him by nominating him for a DYK nom. So, do you think I really was "bitey" him now in light that other editors cited him first and that I did not cite him until he continued to push the edit? If so, then I'll be the first to apologize but I think I got bit by you because you did not review his full history which I know COLD. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:06, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, I took a lot of flak in saving his article and still am. So, you'll excuse me if I seem curt but I did the right thing in saving a notable individual who deserves to have an article on Wikipedia and then in nominating a newbie that I "bit" as you put it. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:09, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Now, he's back to editting the article and doing a terrible of it. I'm coming off the article as I got way too much flak in the AfD debate and his DYK nom. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:17, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats. I'm current working on Gabriel Vargas. Yesterday while having lunch, I read his obit and said, "Man, that would make a great new article for me to create." I start banging it out today and then I found out an anon IP had basically started his article over a redirect if I read the history correctly.
  • Question: is Gabriel Vargas considered started from when the original redirect was made back in 2007 I think or when the anon IP overwrote it? retired talkpage

Hi, user Toddst1 has told me to revert my tidy of Tanns Talkpage and now you are removing it, what is the general position on this? Off2riorob (talk) 13:00, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I believe it varies. With some, and especially retired admins, it depends on how they exitted Wikipedia. Some pages are shut down at the request of the user. Others are left open for comment. Insensitive comments should *never* be left on anyone's page regardless of how they left. With Tan, I believe I am in a group of editors who want to see this admin come back. I am not sure about all that happened but it appears that he was not stripped of the mop which leads me to believe that it is up to him to choose how long a wikibreak he wants. If I were his best buddy or compadre, I'd tell him to take a week off and no more than a month. He's been a good if not great admin IMHO. Sometimes here at Wikipedia we fail to see all the good some editors do; the things they do and the trench warfare they've endured in order to make Wikipedia a better campus for all of us to enjoy. We should be caring and nuturing or as we used to say in the military, "caring and sharing versus bashing and thrashing". There's a miliary corollary to that:

Typically that was the attitude of senior commanders who fail to see that morale is an important part of espirit d'corps. Fail to pump the troops; and the troops will go out of their way to let you fall flat on your face with no one to catch you. I remember of my best commanders *ever* who said,

Once you understood his policy, you never violated his open door policy because he saved more people than any other commander I ever knew. And, he knew how to pump you up in front of the troops and that punishment should always be served in private.

Unfortunately, with talkpages there is not much privacy and sometimes we swoop where eagles don't dare because vultures roam. A 22mm lead BB usually takes care of vultures but never should be used on a California condor. Tan's a condor we need back in our midst. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:18, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments. I also thought him a valuable asset to the project. Off2riorob (talk) 13:23, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of the public woodshed. Too often we whack each other in public (and I am guilty of that too) and then expect not to be taken to task for what we said or did. Bears take a dump in the woods because not very many animals are going to stop by, admire what they are doing or take them to task. The corollary is as the retired sign at the Sacramento Zoo is:

which translates to:

Yes, everybody has their day under the sun but it's no fun to be on Pismo Beach when you feel like the proverbial 98 pound weakling with the bully giving you either a $hit or sand sandwich. I think Tan been getting way too much flak. --moreno oso (talk) 13:36, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
