From another anon article talkpage

To set the record correct, I was the first editor "to tag" this article. Editors can take tags two ways: either as being helpful or hurtful. No one wants their edit or article "defaced" by a tag because it feels hurtful. However, if you take it in the right vein, another editor is trying to tell you what your article needs to be done to make your article successful or one that will stay on Wikipedia.
As to the second editor, who placed the WP:CSD tag, it felt the article is not notable. Best tip I can give you is to build your articles in a private userspace file like User:Morenooso/Gabriel Vargas workspace. Then, and only when, you are sure you have it cited with reliable sources would I post it to mainspace. Gabriel Vargas looked like [this DIFF when I found it. You can see what I did in private and then posted only when I was ready.
Finally, it will take a third person, an admin to review the CSD tag and decide what needs to be done. --moreno oso (talk) 13:58, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
A neutral review shows that some editors may not be aware of how an article is editted. This comment section was cleaned up to look like "normal" talkpage discussion. Now, to address the issues:
Maintenance tags are meant to help all editors to see what needs to be done with an article. You can take them either as room for improvement or an arrow to the heart. The latter is not meant or desired. Articles need to follow WP:MOS in how an article is developed with a proper WP:LEAD, supporting reliably sourced citations and meet notability requirements. You seem to be doing the latter. While my comment about resumes may have been inappropriate, I tried to give you context. I should have just cited either policy or an essay which I will do now. You can either take it as room for improvement or an arrow to the heart. Please see WP:RESUME - not saying that this was done but from an editor like me who reviews many articles, this looks like an advertised resume.

Edit War re Don Martin (public affairs consultant)

Extended content

>--Ray L Henry. (Austin3301) My apologies re being unaware of the three-revert rule. I will not make an additional edits to your notation. Several persons and I have been working on refining this listing. I have been voluntarily editing Mr. Martin's page and am currently in the process as we speak of adding proper links to the page from other Wikipedia sources. Mr. Martin is a notable person within Austin Tx for his many contributions to various major referendum elections such as the Bergstrom Airport bond campaign, the Round Rock Express Stadium, Westbank Library District formation; two Sales Tax elections; and many more such efforts as well as 21 years of public affairs advice to numerous significant clients, the city, the Chamber of Commerce and four Mayors, and as an author of a historical Austin book in 2009. He is a sort of elder statesman in civic affairs in Austin.

Your advice and counsel on how to make the article more responsible or acceptable would be greatly appreciated. The article is highly referenced with numerous internal Wikipedia citations as well as 29 published articles and sources. I appreciate any advice you may have and your patience as I make the additional links from other pages to this page.

Also please advise if this is the proper placement for this discussion. Thank you. -- Ray Henry (no relation to Don Martin) Austin3301 (talk) 02:59, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

The proper place for this discussion is on the article talkpage. A person can be considered "notable" within their community but that notability does not transfer automatically to Wikipedia. The maintenance tags that were placed on the article also are/were meant to tell other editors what needed to be done with the article. Over zealous removal without article improvement is usually a bad sign on Wikipedia. A general review of WP:N and WP:MOS is recommended. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:04, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Article

Extended content

Hello! Your submission of Article at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Espresso Addict (talk) 03:28, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

I reviewed what you wrote about this DYK nomination of William Huggins (animal artist). I remember how the last review of Sara Zandieh's DYK nom went with you. You've stated your opinion there and I *know* I can't change it so it would futile for me to comment there. Not to be curt, but either he gets approved on the current nom or he doesn't. It was 50/50 but now looks like zip. I improved the article as best I could with citations and copyedits. I have nothing to add either to his article or nomination. Sorry. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:37, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
BTW, I did notice your small edits to his article as it is on my Watchlist. You're free to clear up the issues you brought by improving the article. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:52, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I forgot to mention that I do disagree with your assessment that is copy of a ref. I was very careful to provide verifiable cited references that could be viewed online. The article creator used a book as the main ref/source which I did not have access to. I sincerely doubt many other editors could get access to it either. I did many web searches to find refs that could verify what he may have used to create the article. And, I do know about WP:COPYVIO. As a Page Patroller, I am capable of detecting and tagging articles with the appropriate maintenances. *Trust me* when I say, if I smell something, I will act on it. My word is my bond. So, there we are. Two different opinions and I know I can't budge yours; ergo, I am content with how I editted the article (because I don't do copyvios or WP:OR) - I cite material) and will let the nom die because I have done all I can. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:53, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, I never knew what {{DNB}} was. And, I didn't have access to that either. You probably be addressing your concerns to the creator. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:59, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Allen Dorfman article

Sir, the Allen Dorfman article is sourced! Why do you say it is not? Gattosby (talk) 04:14, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I understand the complaint is that is it sourced with a single source. I'm still workin on the article tho. Thanks in advance. Gattosby (talk) 04:15, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

You can look about two sections up what I have written about maintenance tags - they're meant to help all editors to see what needs to be done with an article. You can take them either as improvement or an arrow to the heart. The latter is not meant or desired. Articles need to follow WP:MOS in how an article is developed with a proper WP:LEAD, supporting reliably sourced citations and meet notability requirements. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:19, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Seeing the subsequent career of this editor, I went back and checked in Google news. The article as written was thoroughly inaccurate to the point of being in blatant contradiction to excellent sources; Dorfman is very notable, much more so in fact than the article indicated, and I have made multiple corrections in the article and explained on its talk page. The work there is such as to detract further from the credibility of the user, as if that were necessary. I shall be checking all other contributions from him. DGG ( talk ) 00:17, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. I caught some heat from some of the editors for tagging this article the way I did. I tried to walk a fine line and it's easy to get caught up in an edit war. I stayed away from actively editting the article and stayed on the sidelines. I have been watching its progress and as you put, his notability is estabished. ----moreno oso (talk) 00:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

User talk:Hyacinth#Forever Einstein

Considering the article never had a source, but only an uncited external link which has not been removed, perhaps you are not observant enough to be tagging articles, or at least this article, since you tagged this one inappropriately and then misinformed me about it. What is a talkback? Hyacinth (talk) 07:10, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

If you think I am unobservant, I can show you a trick or two. But, you might to look up the talkpage a couple of blocks for a hint. ----moreno oso (talk) 10:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|Speedy deletion nomination of Shadab Jamal

Extended content
A tag has been placed on Shadab Jamal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 11:22, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Oops, looks like someone was deleting this as you added tags, morenooso, so you ended up recreating it! I've deleted it again. Edit conflicts, pah! – B.hoteptalk11:24, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
That did seem to be the case. Usually you have to check the checkbox to confirm you want to recreate the page though, is this a problem with a specific editing tool? GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 11:30, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
It probably wouldn't come up with the recreate checkbox if he was already editing it when it got deleted. Common problem, or non-problem, if you like. – B.hoteptalk11:32, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
It always has when I've been in the process of tagging an article and it's been deleted, which is why I suspected it might be a problem with a specific editing tool not checking if the page has been deleted before making the edit. If a tool was involved it's probably worth filing a bug report. I'm going to back out of this conversation before it turns any nastier now though. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 11:52, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

(edit conflict)user:Giftiger wunsch, you need to check histories before you issue warnings like this. If this ever happens to me again, I will consider it a WP:NPA. I am walking away from the computer to be WP:COOL. --moreno oso (talk) 11:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not going to respond to the obvious bait there. This was a notification, an automated twinkle notification, letting you know that I listed an article you created for speedy deletion. This was not a warning, nor was it a personal attack. I suggest you read WP:AGF a bit more thoroughly. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 11:43, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
And for the record, I checked the history, saw that it had a single, creating edit which didn't introduce any content, and thus filed it as A3 as appropriate. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 11:47, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Extended content

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Don Martin (public affairs consultant). Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. GregJackP (talk) 12:00, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

GregJackP, please note that as far as I can see, morenooso only made a single reversion to this article, where you yourself have made two. Please avoid misusing 3RR warnings, and instead seek to achieve consensus on the article's talk page. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 12:29, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Note that I have left a comment on the article talk page supporting your point, however. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 12:34, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't what is about you two user issuing false warnings. It had *better* stop! ----moreno oso (talk) 13:04, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Morenooso, I have been nothing but polite. If you make border-line threats and false accusations again, you are in violation of WP:NPA. If you wish to avoid future warnings, keep the tone civil. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:06, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I am not making border line threats. And I consider your false warning to be an insult and WP:NPA. Please stay off my talkpage. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:08, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Please assume good faith in your dealings with other editors, which you did not on User talk:Morenooso. Assume that they are here to improve rather than harm Wikipedia. I have no intention of continuing these conversations. Please assume good faith in future. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:11, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Giftiger wasn't issuing any warnings to you; s/he was replying to GregJackP to say that he shouldn't have given you that notice. Nyttend (talk) 18:23, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Not to disagree with you, but the triangle above your message indicates that the latest warning I received is not assuming good faith after I asked Giftiger to stay off my talkpage.----moreno oso (talk) 18:27, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I meant the original comment of "GregJackP, please note that as far as I can see...", not the later comments; sorry for poor wording. Nyttend (talk) 18:29, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Not to worry. I walked away from the computer for over an hour to cool off. It's disturbing to see a talkpage light up like a SAMs I saw late one night in a place I thought I would never. Fortunately, I had some F-16s as wingmen. But, that's classified and as an anonymous actor in an eponymous movie said, "I'd have to" do something that would be a show stopper. I'm am trying to be neutral toned so as to avoid another warning. ----moreno oso (talk) 18:44, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

WYSIWYG editor

Extended content

Sounds interesting; however, I'm much more interested in the edit window style that I've always used. I've helped you with DYK nominations; would you help me with one? I've just finished Precious Blood Catholic Church (Chickasaw, Ohio); it's taken long enough that I've not done much with Wikipedia other than writing it. Nyttend (talk) 18:18, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Will do. I have a window open on an article I am working on. I am using the new editor and it kicks butt! I'm sold! ----moreno oso (talk) 18:22, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I may not be able to get to your article til late tonight or later tomorrow afternoon. The workspace article I am has taken longer than I thought. Then I am getting phone calls as I am the chairman for a dinner tonight and a birthday party tomorrow that will be an all day affair. I'd to do several temp saves on the workspace file and probably will do two more edits and try to post it. And then, there's this special on Shakira that is running which doing nothing for my concentration. I could go for a cold shower right now. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:21, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I reworked Jordan Romero but had problems with my fat fingers (seriously - no bear jokes). I would like to expand the Historic climb section with some of the terminology I learned from Pizzo Coca and maybe another good ref or two. All the info I added is readily available through a number of websites. I chose the Big Bear one because, um, err, I'm a brown bear - yeah, that's the ticket. Where's Jon Lovitz when you need you? Gotta shower and change into my tux. I have to wear the thing twice two days in a row. I told someone special to me long ago that only way I ever thought I would wear a tux would be in a casket. Now, I get to wear one almost once a month minimum and sometimes as many as four times a month. I have to admit, the black tux looks good on my brown skin. I am Hispanic after all and a loyal moreno oso. Growl! --moreno oso (talk) 21:33, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Glad you enjoy it; I much prefer a T-shirt :-) Ah well; I'm going into academia, so I won't expect to wear T-shirts at work. By the way, please don't nominate the article yet; I'm going to write a DYK-length article about St. Sebastian's Catholic Church (Sebastian, Ohio), from which Precious Blood was formed, and I'll try for a double nomination. Nyttend (talk) 03:13, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
It's not so much that I enjoy it but, that I am told I have a wicked sense of humor. Here I am all dressed up and I put a white rag around my wrist and serve wine while saying, "I'll be here all night and autographs are free before 11; $25 after then." Guess you had to be there. I'll take a look at the file and build a workspace one. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:50, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Saw your note; thanks. I'm confused about your web sources, however — [1] is a self-published source, so not reliable; [2] is from newspapers, but I don't see how obituaries are helpful; [3] I'm already using as a reference for them being part of the St. Marys Deanery (by the way, St. Marys is this city, not named after the Virgin); and [4] doesn't provide any information that the previous one doesn't. Not trying to be critical of you; I just don't see how they're useful. Thanks for the link to deanery; I've linked to it in previous articles and simply forgot here. Nyttend (talk) 13:02, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

[unindent] I'm also not sure about the final URL that you gave (forgot to mention it in previous comment). Two other things — (1) the cluster is hardly a separate religious order; the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has simply put these parishes together for administrative and pastoral convenience. (2) The order involved is the C.P.P.S.; they were historically involved with all of the parishes in the Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches, and they still are to an extent. Nyttend (talk) 13:08, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem which is why I set up a workspace file so as not to mess up the good work you've done. But, by forcing ghits from the Evil Empire II aka Google, I've forced archived news articles to now show. In essence, I've laid bare what I am seeing and then leaving to you to decide which items should or should not be included. And, perhaps you will see something that tee you off in another direction that is fruitful. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:12, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
In a nutshell, I'm YTrikC_ing or helping Google to index more URLs about what could be a nebulous search item. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:14, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Your request

Nyttend, what were your thoughts concerning this collaboration? Sorry, I've been busy with trustee affairs over the weekend, a truck that needs to be put out of its misery, some DYK noms (one of which Adamski that I did not get DYK credit for even though I made the nom, expanded/wikified the article and save it from an AfD), my own article I wanted to push out two days ago but which took a back seat to everything going on, and was asked last minute to help with refreshments for another affair. I gotta stop volunteering and wearing that tux. On Saturday, I helped the servers at the restaurant my group went to and jokingly place a white towel over my tuxedo jacket wrist (the bad one with carpal tunnel) as I helped served water and more wine than even I care to serve. Then, only tips I got were, "Don't play in traffic" and "Don't take any wooden nickels". I just finished my AfD save-of-the day and need to take over my Red cape (I do wear a red cape with my tux) which some of the guys say I should put a big "S" on it because I'm a sucker for kids and good causes. Now, if women only view me in the same light and with the lights out. . . ----moreno oso (talk) 21:48, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia_talk:DYK#Non-receipt_of_DYK_credit_for_Mariusz_Adamski.2C_Item_7_on_today.27s_frontpage. Just my luck this week and the way the game has been going for me. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:49, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, sorry that I didn't reply before. I've nominated both Precious Blood and St. Sebastian's churches already. Nyttend (talk) 17:39, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
That's okay. To tell you the truth, I really don't see much that I could do. Asking me to copyedit one of your articles is like having Gilligan touch up a Michaelango. Although, it would have been a nice thing to be in on a "sure thing" as you will most likely get DYK credits. But then, lately I've been on a roll too. . .----moreno oso (talk) 18:06, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I was just asking you to nominate it :-) The "2" in {{User Did You Know2}} is simple: it distinguishes it from {{User Did You Know}}, which highlights a specific article rather than counting a total. And no, you only get one credit if you nominate and create an article that's highlighted; the count is for articles that have been featured to which you've contributed. As for the previous versions of the Main Page — that's not what you want. Look at this version of the Main Page from over 2 years ago; most of the content is the same, including all of the DYK hooks. You want previous versions of the DYK template; for that, go to its history page. Find when the template was updated with your hook — you were notified about Armstrong and González at 06:03 on the 30th, so look for the update that happened just before that time, and click on the timestamp for that edit, 06:00, 30 May 2010. You can see at my DYK page how the links to past edits generally work. Nyttend (talk) 19:47, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for all. This bear is a hurting unit. I bruised my rib the other day while in the tub and throwing tables/chairs/carrying large pots of chocolate did no good for it. Ana María Canseco

Sorry, but I'm confused; what do you mean by an edit count? There have been 75 edits in the page's history, if that's what you mean. Nyttend (talk) 11:39, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant the number of characters/words. I'm going for a 5x expansion. I really dig that chick. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:42, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I counted a bit more than 3,500 characters. Could you try to merge sentences in the "2001 to 2010" and "Advocacy" sections? The page also needs a little simple copyediting; for example, there are a few spots where there's no space between a reference at the end of a sentence and the first word of the next sentence. Nyttend (talk) 11:57, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I nominated it last night for 5x which means it might need another 1,500 characters. I'll take a look after I review my watchlist. Thanks.
Looking for those "no spaces" is killing me. I will need to do this section by section which means I might as well do a copyedit too. Good thing because one of the citation titles was wrong as I used the HTTP as the title. What I would give for a WYSIWYG Wikipedia editor that could suppress the URL cites but leaves the superscripted numeral (so you know there's a citation there) - would be priceless!!! Why, I'd give up sex on days with a Z in them for example.
I did check Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Inline_citations because I thought you meant something else and I have seen different styles. MOS is not clear on what I've seen; ergo, I'm going with what most of the better editors do for readability. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
About the Advocacy section, I wanted it separate. Like many TV personalities and especially radio DJs, she has done a number of charitable activities which got fleeting press. Because I have watched Despierta América since its inception and watch Univision regularly, I am aware of other things she has done. I know she has received Emmys for example but the ghits just aren't there. Yesterday I found a reference to a group one she has been part of due to covering the Tournament of Roses. As per WP:V's admonition, I have to edit with stone-cold precision using citeable sources and "not what I know". Flipping back and forth from Spanish to English is not my strong suit either. Wearing a dark brown coat is more my stong suit although I heard growling is strong too. ----moreno oso (talk) 15:16, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Another good example is that she became a US citizen in 2005 if I remember correctly. I will have to try to flush that up using my Yahoo trick for south of the border citations. ----moreno oso (talk) 15:19, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Part of the citizenship issue is her PSA for voting cited in this section. Her part was Ya es Hora, Ciudadanía” (It’s Time, Citizenship) as per the cited URL. I think it was on Cristina Saralegui where she spoke emotionally about how good it felt to be a citizen versus being looked at as a foreigner (there's a phrase for that that she used but which is not appropriate her) that impressed me. She's now a US voting citizen and has voted more times than somebody running for the CA governorship. ----moreno oso (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
She's looking like a WP:HOTTIE right now. She's the kind of gal you could take home proudly to Mom and know she would approve. Coming soon to a main page near you. . .----moreno oso (talk) 15:45, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Re Huggin's DYK nom

Extended content

Hi Morenooso -- sorry, I've been off my computer for several days over the public holiday here. There's no problem with copyright regarding the William Huggins (animal artist) article because the DNB edition used is old enough to be out of copyright. However, to promote new content rather than imports from other public domain sources, the DYK process strongly discourages articles that are copies or near copies of public domain material even when the source is properly acknowledged. You can address this by editing the article so that it's no longer a copy; the best way to achieve this is often to find a different source and incorporate material from it. Hope this clarifies! Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 17:27, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment but I've already expressed my thoughts on the matter both on your talkpage and mine. Sorry, no interest. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:31, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
I thought about this long and hard during lunch and on the way home. I hit the wall on this article when I finished my edits on it. I am not one to puff up an article with fluff. While the nomination is nice, lately I have ventured too far from my own interests and that of Wikiproject California. Huggins is a nice painter and there was one work I wanted to find info on but there is very little indepth coverage on him except for one or two cites I found. Even with the ones I found and cited, I felt like I was trying to draw blood from a rock. No, I am more into Rothko who I saw long ago in the Norton Simon Museum. His At Five in the Afternoon, not sure if that is the correct name, inspired me back when. But, even he is not Californian and already covered.
I thought about leaving a comment on the nom but it would serve no purpose. I have done as much as I can for the article. My nom thereof is proof of that. I spent way too much time trying to get the article ready for a nom almost like Sara Zandieh which you also canx'ed. You'll excuse me, I'm sure (well may be not), but once bitten is twice shy. I don't need all the grief I saw saving her article, being taken to task on the nom page; in essence spilling my guts there and watching your pronouncement. Your "I wonder what the tagging editor thought" musing amused this muse who did all the tagging of Zandieh's article. As a result of a visit by another admin on my talkpage, I decided you were RIGHT. Right in that I had taken her article away from two deletion reviews and the COI subject who has tried to edit it because she knows where she lives (which I do too as a result of Hoover's) but that info is not in the citations and too private to be used. Toss in the creating editor who continues to do a swell job with the article, and I realized, "Ya know that admin was right. I am spending way too much time with an article that I can't get any more reliably sourced material for." With everyone breathing down my neck, I feel like like the classic bear in The Far Side who seen from a gunsight perspective has his best buddy pointing at me and in essence says shoot him/me. No thanks, but thanks for invitation. Like Zandieh, there are no more citations I can "drum up" nor do I care for. ----moreno oso (talk) 20:45, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, but I try to avoid "past history". Lets see what we can do from here. The article has no legal issues at all that I can see. Wikipedia thanks you and welcomes more like it. Which is why I'm trying to help. "Did You Know" has its own "tighter" rules. They require that new articles are not cut and pastes of online sources even where they are the in public domain AND they require in-line cites of every source (whether paraphrased or not). If you are willing and you can keep up with me then I will paraphrase and cut your existing article to create a "new" one from the pieces. If you look at my other contributions you will see that I take a lot of material from DND Vol. 28.... you just need to know how. O.K.? Victuallers (talk) 16:42, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, that's what I try to do too. While on Page Patrol, I now actively look for articles I can nominate for DYKs. Sometimes it involves a day of editting for me. I am relatively new to doing large article edits and within the past month or so, have begun to create articles. I do my best to provide cited material and to indicate where it came from so as to avoid copyvios. I am somewhat discouraged by the comment that was left about the article you referenced here. If it has been determined the original editor did a copy-and-paste, I want no part of it because I did all my edits in good faith. I know you're trying to help but I have been bitten twice now and am gun shy as a result. ----moreno oso (talk) 16:50, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh I see a bit more. It was a cut and paste and you have added all the extra stuff. Come on? Lets not give up. Lets make this into a good DYK article despite its poor beginnings.... I will have Samuel Huggins ready in a few minutes to support it... Victuallers (talk) 16:55, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
I didn't have access to the book which was the source document. I tried to add citations and bring the edit count up all to meet the DYK criteria. In addition, with my edits I tried to provide a hook that would like a wicked left hook the reader never saw. I appreciate what you're doing but I'm too deflated by the other editor's comments and past history. I really can't past that. I want to move on and just let it unfold. To be honest, I assumed good faith about the creator and thought, "Man, with the WikiCommon photo available, this might be a great nom that gets accompanied by the picture." Like th other Huggins' artist who does boat pictures (which I also wanted to nominate), "the wind has been taken out of my sails" and I feel I have nothing to contribute on the matter. I have a file I have been meaning to pump out but have done other things on Wikipedia that took priority over me and my article creation. Maybe tomorrow when I have a day off from my public life, I will put out my article which I also want to DYK nominate. ----moreno oso (talk) 17:09, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

There are many articles on its short list and I know one I am confident I can do now. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:43, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Nudity in music videos

I edited the date of Alanis Morissette's "Thank U" video from 2002 to 1998 for two main reasons:

1. I was a senior in high school when the video came out. It was a topic of discussion for a bit at lunch.  :-) I even saw her in concert in 1999 where she performed it. 2. Here is the wikipedia page for the "Thank U" single: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_U

It clearly shows the song was released in 1998. It even references the video making a "top videos" list in 2001.

Hope that helps.74.124.130.216 (talk) 02:44, 4 June 2010 (UTC)74.124.130.216 (talk) 02:42, 4 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.124.130.216 (talk) 02:41, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

  • (edit conflict)Please see the maintenance tags on top of the article which require citations to accompany edits. Using Wikipedia as a citation is not reliably sourced because any article can be changed to reflect almost anything. In addition, this article underwent a WP:AFD for almost the same reason - no reliable citations. I helped by providing citations to several of the songs. Your issue on the Notability of Sydney Festival of Football

Hey, just wanna ask why you placed the notability tag on the article. The tournament was announced today in Sydney, and basically has been headline news in sports papers today.I have provided plenty of sources on the pages. You may not be familiar with the Hyundai A-League, however it is a fully professional football league, and the tournament is going to be held annually. Some of the biggest teams in Europe will be playing in this years cup - Rangers F.C., Blackburn, and AEK Athens, so given the high status of these teams, you would think the event quite significant, like with the Sydney FC V Everton FC friendly also planned for later this year, it will be show live on national TV, and like i mentioned beforehand, due to the status of the teams involved, will most likely be broadcasted internationally. Nath1991 (talk) 10:03, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Explained on article talkpage where more appropriate. But, with a similar rumored tournament canceled last year, the upcoming World Cup, please see WP:CRYSTAL. ----moreno oso (talk) 10:57, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Non-notability for inclusion

Unless compelling sources can be introduced for this article, there is no reason for inclusion. ----moreno oso (talk) 15:09, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

At the time this was nominated for a WP:CSD, while there may have been "some" content, there was not enough for Notability. CSD A1 reads, "Articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article." Perhaps it should be changed to include notability as well. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

From another article talkpage, I need to save this where I might need to reference it. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:33, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Specifically its title reads, "A1. No context." No context needs to be change to "Sufficient context" as that was why the article was nominated for a CSD. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:35, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

"Mav, they call him Ice because he stays with you until you make a mistake or get weary. Then he moves in like Ice." His best line came when they meet Kelly McGillis in the O' Club bar. Hot Summer Nights by Gloria Estefan is playing in the background (in fact, this was an unreleased single by MSM until this movie). Goose (Edwards) says, "The bet is something knowledge. On the premises with a female." BTW, Charlie Blackwood does exist and McGillis did a perfect imitation of her to include fishnet stockings and high heels. But, as Mav tells Charlie, "That's classified." ----moreno oso (talk) 22:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Harold Faltermeyer has some nifty tunes too (the Navy Gong somber one is a great one) and the video of him and the other guy in a flight suit on the flight deck of a carrier kill me. Where's the Dog when you need him? If you go to a Fleet Week activity, take a tour of a big ship, ask if the Dog is available and hard and that you want chocolate Dog. I spent three weeks aboard a carrier and that is the first trick sailor or "Naval aviators" as Charlie puts it, play on newbies. The Dog is the ice cream machine kept in the mess or dining room. Ice cream should not be served soft and chocolate is preferred to vanilla. By saying all this, you will impress the sailor and show you know Navy ops. And, as you go up the gangplank, please salute the Captain's flag and then turn to salute the American flag. You'll wow 'em every time.----moreno oso (talk) 22:45, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

California grizzlies don't interact with sharks. We're partial to streams and wooded locations. Now, my dear cousin, the polar bear, supposedly has had a bout or two with a shark. Allegedly, sharks like to feast when the pb has killed a seal or similar animal in or near the water. The pb will protect its kill up to a point but in the water the shark has the advantage. Pbs are smarter than your average bear and will move off in search of safety. Where's a shark going to get a laser? Thanks for the compliment and comment. I'm done at DYK thanks to certain visits by admins (all said in WP:AGF). I respect you as an editor too. I love being a part of AfDs especially when my vote matters. ----moreno oso (talk) 23:57, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
BTW, if I could give you a Google search hint, when you do an AfD type Google search from Wikipedia, it embeds characters which render the search almost unuseable. I have a method on my userpage called "YTrikC_search" that flushes up items using Yahoo, Scroogle and Google. ----moreno oso (talk) 00:06, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Scroogle sounds great. I did a test search for the mushroom article that I'm expanding from a sentence and I found multiple good sources with one search. Joe Chill (talk) 00:15, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
It kicks butt. I love the way it highlights your search terms in colors. You find all the terms or colors in one URL listing and you're golden. Plus, it anonymizes your search by destroying your data in four days. But, it uses Google's search engine and the Evil Empire (G) remembers the search. I use Yahoo because it's good at finding cached items and second largest to Google. When Yahoo is search, it indexes the search which is picked up by Google. Scroogle used next forces the index tighter at Google. And if you're looking for historical news items, the one method I have listed will bubble up something usually with four hours if you do the YTrikC_search once an hour. ----moreno oso (talk) 00:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

The visit about trying out for admin camp really sealed the deal too. This bear doesn't wear tutus. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:11, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Ripper coming back for an encore of refs. As per Jimbo's observation, I don't see anything in her article that is "highly doubtful" or that "she claimed" type material. If there is something that needs a citation, please use the {{cn}} template. --moreno oso (talk) 18:46, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey, please do not revert edits that are still works in progress. Clearly, you are a fan of USC which is where Lane Kiffin is now head coach. I'm sorry. Nevertheless, blotting out references to Lane Kiffin in regards to JaMarcus Russell is gross bias. References will be added.

I will assume good faith about your remark about USC. I could care less about Kiffin and to be honest think he blows. Recent edits have whitewashed Russell's article. Be sure to review WP:NPOV as "all significant views" are to be represented. ----moreno oso (talk) 19:20, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

JaMarcus Russell and USC

Hey, please do not revert edits that are still works in progress. Clearly, you are a fan of USC which is where Lane Kiffin is now head coach. I'm sorry. Nevertheless, blotting out references to Lane Kiffin in regards to JaMarcus Russell - under false pretenses - is gross bias. References will be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Silverandblack (talkcontribs) 19:07, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

May be a sock here. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:42, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm guessing (not guessing really, more like thinking 100 percent so) that User:Silverandblack and User:Fingers2424 are the exact same person (maybe It's the fact that they both put the exact same sentence on the talk page under two different accounts.

But I don't think it becomes a sockpuppet until the alternate account is used to evade a block. Neither account has been blocked (yet) so I don't think it's an issue (yet). RF23 (talk) 22:21, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Their edits are very similar. Fingers showed up after I mentioned here that Silver was 3RR. But yet a new user knew that I had a USC box and made the same arguments as Silver did here. What a coincidence? ----moreno oso (talk) 22:25, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
And, to be clear: Fingers' account was opened today after Silver posted here. Silver understand 3RR because I cited him once on it already. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:27, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
they posted the exact same sentence word for word on Russell's talk page. That's WP:SOCK. RF23 (talk) 22:41, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that too. ----moreno oso (talk) 02:03, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
And just as i though he was learning or getting better, he reverts to blatant vandalism, and personal attacks. Meanwhile, I'm laughing my ass off because he's accusing me of doing every exact thing he's doing. This is priceless. RF23 (talk) 02:43, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I would watch your comments and edit summaries. You too are approaching 3RR. ----moreno oso (talk) 02:47, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
thought 3RR doesn't apply when reverting vandalism? "If a baby spills his milk, can you blame me for picking up the glass?" RF23 (talk) 02:49, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Please see WP:3RR. Short answer - depends. With one editor now edit-warring, an admin could view your actions/reverts/deletes as "crossing that bright line". Basically, I never revert twice within a 24 hour period if I sense an edit war is on-going. Vandalism reverts or not, admins will block all if necessary to provide a cool down. --moreno oso (talk) 02:53, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I've started an edit war report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:Silverandblack reported by User:Eagles247 .28Result: .29. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:01, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
This is odd.. Are you naming these policies from memory or something? WP:OUTING says nothing about socks or edit warring, It talks about people who threaten to reveal personal information. Did I miss something? RF23 (talk) 03:16, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
See my comment on Ringerfan's talk. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:17, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I've seen it before. In essence, you "called him out". It ties into the 3RR. There are many inter-weaving policies on Wikipedia. Admins usually know them cold especially they are the type that specialize in blocking people for both of those actions. I think you've been fortunate so far but your luck may not hold out. If another admin were to review some of your edit summaries, deletions, etc., I've seen in the past where WP:OUTING factored in. But, you can wing it if you like and press your luck. Me, I try to absorb as much as I can because I don't want to be blocked (even for 24 hours). But, that's a personal thing for me. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:23, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Wow, you're going for the gusto in removing the talkpage discussion. That is also bad ju-ju beads. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:27, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Thought it was commonplace to revert edits of banned users? the discussion brought nothing to the table about the article, and was filled with personal attacks against several users. Didn't need to be there. RF23 (talk) 03:30, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
And I'm sure that any admin looking over it would AGF for all editors involved. RF23 (talk) 03:31, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
He isn't "banned" from Wikipedia, he's only blocked. When the block expires in 24 hrs, were you just going to restore it? I've seen worse personal attacks over at Talk:Tim Tebow where a user (now indefinitely blocked) made terribly uncivil remarks about me and a few other users. Those threads are still standing. If you, Ringerfan, said something that you regret there, you may strike the comments out if you wish. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:35, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Understood that. I too addressed him with my edit summary. Saved me typing. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:12, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
  • {ec}}
Yes, they would. But, I will now count the edits, deletes, etc. as a good Page Patroller should. AGF with some the edit summaries could be negated. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:38, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
The Notaforum tag addresses the issue of removing comments on a talkpage. I don't have it memorized cold but I understand the policy as I've seen it enforced as Eagles has stated here. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:04, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Then again, I see a lot of "stuff" as a Page/Recent Changes Patroller. I keep a "handy-dandy" reference thingie where I can readily access policy. Editors can interpret policy any way they want. The admins are the final arbitors. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
This is cosmic. On another board, an admin noted that someone "self-outed" themself. But then, I probably don't know anything about outing on public boards versus private talkpages, which are not private either. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:38, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Outing is when a user reveals personal information (address, name, age, etc.) about another user. Self-outing is when they reveal it about themselves (very rare). Tagging accounts as sockpuppets is filed under WP:SOCK, but I don't think there is a specific name for it. Eagles 24/7 (C) 04:43, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
You can either take what I say with a grain of salt or you could doubt me. I've seen the issue and it's being discussed in admin talkpages right now. It is apparent one editor doesn't know all the policy he thinks he would like to. Actually, two in this section but one is temporarily blocked. As I said before, I try to absorb as much as I can and when I see something new, make a note of the ref. I may not know where everything is found or said but can generally get across my points especially in AfD debates. But I digress. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:50, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
It also says somewhere that "even the change of one word" can be the 3RR threshold considered to be revert or words to that effect. But, what do I know? Although, there is an editor who probably should not be editting the article right now. ----moreno oso (talk) 05:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
If you're talking about me, Why? Can you be more specific, that way, if I screw up, I know what I did wrong so I can fix it in the future. I might not fully 100 percent grasp any wikipedia policy and follow them 100 percent all the time (nobody does), but I don't see how there's anyone who had bad edits other than the currently blocked user. There are some places were 3RR (If any admins using common sense- and I assume they use it if they're an admin) don't apply. If guns are banned in a state, do you arrest the person who calls the police saying they saw a gun somewhere? No. you arrest the person with the gun. Similarily, If you see a person with a gun in this hypthetical situation, and you tell that person "Guns are illegal here!" and then call the cops on them, should the person stating the rules be punished for stating the rules to someone who doesn't know them? No.
also, editing only has 1 T in it (sorry, that's been buggin' me all day) RF23 (talk) 05:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, where to start? Received any warnings lately? Done any incivil remarks while doing reverts? Continue to edit the article? Delete comments on a talkpage? But, you haven't listened to me so far, so, what the hey. Go for the gusto (not). ----moreno oso (talk) 05:49, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Hailong Market

Please reconsider your nomination of Hailong Market for speedy deletion.   — C M B J   21:47, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Here is the DIFF. There was one ref and notability was not estabished. Ghits weren't there - I checked. ----moreno oso (talk) 21:53, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
English search hits are not always reliable indicators of notability when it comes to non-English subjects; a quoted search in Chinese yields 2.4 million hits. We really need more articles about important subjects in developing countries, so it's important to exercise greater caution when dealing with such.   — C M B J   22:02, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I am willing to concede that. However, you should think about building in a userspace file. Notability clearly was not established. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:06, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Caribbean Bowling Alley

I am trying to work on resolving the tags you placed. I believe I understand all of them, except the one about Advertisement. Can you cite some key words that caught your attention. I can then start the rewrite with them. Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 06:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Basically, there is a CSD category for unambigous advertising. Just about the whole article reads like a phone directory ad for the bowling alley. There is nothing that makes it notable. See WP:CORP. ----moreno oso (talk) 06:45, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi I reworked the article considerably, after which I felt it was ready for the tags to be removed. Please see it and let me know if you agree. By the way, what is CSD? Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 14:05, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I'll take your word for it. Besides, I have to leave for breakfast in 30 minutes. ----moreno oso (talk) 14:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: How to Be Indie

Hello Morenooso, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of How to Be Indie, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Theleftorium (talk) 08:31, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Also, A7 doesn't apply to television shows. Theleftorium (talk) 08:31, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Furthermore, a subject doesn't have to be notable (WP:N) to meet the A7 criterion. All that is required is an assertion of importance or significance. Theleftorium (talk) 08:40, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Inappropriate use of warning templates

I made three reverts, not more. I am leaving wikipedia. Before I go, I would like to say you are the single most difficult person I have ever had to work with in any capacity at any time in my life. May you continue to impede wikipedia in the future. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:01, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Disagree. You made more than three edits and illegally removed comments in an AfD debate. ----moreno oso (talk) 13:02, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Edits != reverts. Learn the rules you pretend to enforce. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 13:03, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: usertalk:69.19.14.17

First of all, thanks for the compliment but I'm not an admin. I'm just an average editor.

Secondly, I'm editing from work and am rather busy right now. The best place for you to go for help would likely be either WP:HELPDESK or one of the admin noticeboards. Off the top of my head, I think WP:AIV should have all the admin noticeboards linked at the top of the page. Dismas|(talk) 03:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, I thought you were. Materialscientist just popped up and seems to be taking care of it. Thanks. ----moreno oso (talk) 03:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

There was an admin that posted somewhere that a mirror of Wikipedia exists called something like deletepedia. I think user:Nyttend knows more about it. The one I saw was a direct COI. Sounds like the file is making the rounds. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:30, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Bubba Hotek. He's somewhere on this page. Bears do NOT take well to being eaten. I will remind about them taking dumps and not liking shin shots either. Now, gin shots I'm partial to. Tangueray on the rocks, splice of lime with soda. Yummy! ----moreno oso (talk) 21:29, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Recent Warning of Giftiger

Extended content

I noted recently that you warned Giftiger for an alleged violation of the 3RR, and that the interaction appears to be the cause of him deciding to leave Wikipedia. I'm extremely disappointed in that result, especially when the actions and edits that he reverted were: a) not appropriate for an AfD discussion, b) likely acceptable reversions as the other party was refactoring comments of other editors, and c) made in good faith.

The comments that were placed on the AfD were posts by Giftiger, myself and other editors that were cherry-picked and taken out of context. Not appropriate for the AfD in any manner. Another factor to consider is that an admin can handle their own issues - it was not something that they needed you to handle.

While I considered issuing a warning for the improper use of a warning template, I decided to try and talk to you instead, hoping that you will take it in the manner I intend, as constructive criticism designed to improve Wikipedia and the interactions between editors. Remember the Five Pillars - the last two apply here. Be civil and ignore all rules. Nothing Giftiger did was so bad that a word or two about wouldn't have sufficed rather than a warning.

Being very black and white on rules is not always the best way. Just a thought. Regards, GregJackP (talk) 22:27, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

If you review his talkpage history, he decided to "leave Wikipedia" before my warnings. In addition, your buddy issued me two warnings. One for WP:NPA and then the second for WP:AGF after I asked him not to discuss matters on my page. He was very black and white (my bolding) as you put it in enforcing policy with me.
He removed legitimate comments from an AfD page. Then, he was reverted by an admin. He chose to revert that admin with an improper edit summary IMO. As a Page Patroller, who also participates in AfDs, I have the option of reverting. In fact, any editor has the option to revert vandalism. When I reverted him, he chose to revert me twice. In essence, he left me no choice to template him.
I thank you for coming to my talkpage, but you should have all the facts.
My actions are not retalitory and two admins are privy to what went on. In fact, several admins monitor my page. I chose to walk away when your friend warned me the first time citing WP:COOL. I walked away the second time. Then he followed my contribs to an admin page immediately after I returned after the second cool off period the same day. And, that is known to the admin as well. So, what do you think now? ----moreno oso (talk) 22:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
The warnings issued by him came about a week ago. ----moreno oso (talk) 22:42, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I also noticed that you reverted him on his talkpage after all this happened. In essence, he's not really gone huh? ----moreno oso (talk) 23:18, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I did not revert his edits on his talk page, perhaps you are mistaking me for another editor. I stand by my comments, and noted that when you referred him to the AI/V board, an Admin stated that it was not an appropriate referral, as it was not vandalism. Finally, he is not my "buddy" but just another editor whom I feel has a good deal to offer to Wikipedia. I also patrol pages, primarily new ones, and participate in AfDs - but I try to use common sense and civility. All I'm saying is I think that you might try easing up. Regards, GregJackP (talk) 02:05, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
Then we agree to disagree. I felt the need to template him because he removed content, reverted an admin, and revered me multiple times. Matter closed. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:16, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
