User talk:MoiraMoira
Welcome on my page!Subjects I contribute to are history, nature, authors, artists, baseball and softball and more. Furthermore I am active as admin on my home wiki and global sysop and help out with cross wiki vandalism cases. Since I am mostly active on the Dutch-language version nl-Wikipedia, please contact me here if you need me for help or if you have a question. |
Question
[edit]I'm the user you put an indefinite block on for having a type of government as my user name. Its not an organization! Now, had I used the name like "United Kingdom of the Netherlands (1815–1839), Constitutional Monarchy" it would have been an organization. But, I did not! I purposefully chose a type of government not an actual one!
So, if you could please remove my blockade!
Question
[edit]Hi I'm french can you have a look at Talk:Peter_Nguyen.
Some french wikipedians get a little bit confused [1]
I will try to contact you on the nl board also.
Thanks --Neuromancien (talk) 01:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, we got in touch I think since I talked with several fr-wikipedia colleagues in the mean time. The page for this long term structural vandal can be found om meta now here. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 09:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- The Cantonese version of this article (zh-yue:阮文雄) cites a great deal of external press coverage, which suggests that although it might be a case of cross-wiki promo push, the article itself is worth keeping. --Deryck C. 11:18, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Question2
[edit]Dear MoiraMoira, happy to switch to English. I gather we could try to improve my texts by trying to add sources and make them sound less promotional. I will see, if the texts can be improved and, if so, try to do so. Do you think that this can make sense or do you simply consider this will be a waste of time? Thanks for your efforts to maintain the Dutch Wikipedia. Robin hood flour (talk) 12:58, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, but that's not it. It's a library in Bletchey. Nowhere near a university by my knowledge. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 10:47, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- I guess it is a server hosted by this university (per whois). It also traces to the MKConnect which is a learning portal serving schools from the Milton Keynes council. Perhaps an IP-addie used by verious schools and libraries? Perhaps it should be relabeled as "Internet access for various schools and public libraries in the Milton Keynes region? How is that? MoiraMoira (talk) 13:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good. But you better do it. I'm not too familiar with this sort of thing. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 10:12, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Ip Block on NL
[edit]Hi there. Can you please specify why you blocked my IP (84.61.225.1) in the Dutch Wikipedia? I can not remember to have ever edited it and I am most certainly no vandal. In fact, I am a quite active user here on EN. This must be a misunderstanding. I have just unified my account and so I noticed that I couldn't log into the Dutch Wikipedia. Thank you. Janfrie1988 (talk) 23:32, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, I am sure you are no vandal but you will have to ask for an IP-block exempt for you sul account since that dynamic range had to be hard blocked on nl-wiki as it was used intensively by a well known long time vandal on de-wiki and nl-wiki who makes offensive user names cursing at wikipedians and vandalises galore. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 20:27, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Vermeend sokpopmisbruik
-- Honorsteem (talk) 09:32, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Eiland/Honormeets/Honorsteem, this concerns a sockpuppet case on nl-wiki. A checkuser was requested by an nl-wiki admin with whom you obviously had edting problems in the past. An independent non-involved checkuser on nl-wiki evaluated whether in this case a checkuser was warranted in light of the checkuser policy and it was performed. Another independent non-involved admin (me) then applied the proper measures as we have in place on nl-wiki for these matters. You can read on the talk pages of your original account Eiland as well as on the two sockpuppet accounts how you can get your original account unblocked again. It is preferable how ever not to import problems from other wiki versions elsewhere. I do not visit this talk page regularily so you'd better had asked when matters were still unclear to you how to proceed on the talk page of your main account on nl-wiki which you can edit. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 11:47, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Question
[edit]what the fuck are you deleting the OFFICIAL VERSION of the Russian Railway Rates in 2012? There is a special chapter in the article TRANS-SIBERIAN RAILWAY and exactly there this first-class information must be found. 109.172.15.39 (talk) 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Stork (card game)
[edit]Hello MoiraMoira. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Stork (card game) to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 17:07, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- I see that on nl:wp it was deleted as Geen zinvolle inhoud, but here on en:wp the reasons for speedy deletion are quite strictly limited to those in the list at WP:CSD#List of criteria. There have been several proposals to add a speedy criterion for made-up words, games etc, but there has never been agreement. Fortunately, there is a useful guideline Wikipedia is not for things made up one day which can be used to explain to the article authors. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:48, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Made up card games either as pranx, hoaxes or student jokes are common place. This was try numer -nth and cleverly done by firstly creating the text on en-wiki to fake credibility. If rules on fake articles differ from nl-wiki I rest assured the community can take actions here in a different way as well. Hence my actions aimed to protect the en-wiki version too. Cross-wiki vandal
[edit]Thanks for your note - I had wondered what was going on, including why Joan Warner stopped editing and subsequent translation requests came from IPs. I had spotted and corrected the italicization of article subjects in the lead, and to a lesser extent the overlinking on words like "President" (and misspellings of names on some foreign-language Wikipedias). I don't see vandalism, though, and the articles they want created appear to be on notable topics, although I've been adding references when I can, and others have also improved a couple of those I've created at this person's request - such as by adding an appropriate category of players rather than the short list the IP tends to have. Are there any reasons I haven't thought of for me not to go ahead and (eventually) create their most recently requested articles? Yngvadottir (talk) 16:57, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there is no "their"; there is only one person. If you read this matters will be clearer for you I hope that facilitating is definitely not a good idea. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 09:21, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Austrian Handball Federation
[edit]Hello MoiraMoira, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Austrian Handball Federation, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. wL<speak·check> 17:15, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Cross-wiki vandal
[edit]You identified someone on my talk page a while back as a cross-wiki vandal. Another of the same type has cropped up: Dawn Churchward. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:54, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanx for the heads up! Have reported our dear friend Olha for a global lock. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 07:05, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
I believe I found another one; I've cleaned up the article the person created: [2]. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:50, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Lovely. Already has been globally locked. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 20:50, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

- Oh yes the vandal struck again. See the file which is maintained from all over the language versions here. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 12:24, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- In the mean time I have blocked some as well on nl-wiki MoiraMoira (talk) 12:26, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
92.136.135.249 has appeared on my talk page asking me to translate de:Liste der Fechtverbände, which it turns out was created by 92.146.15.247 on February 6; it's a mostly English fork of the list at de:Fédération Internationale d'Escrime#Die nationalen Fechtverbände. Both appear to be Olha, and the latter has many other contributions on de. I've left a note for the most recent editor of the fork article on de. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:22, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

You might want to suggest adopting a similar policy on nl.wiki. It does wonders for co-operation. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 16:28, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- You might want to consider to refrain from importing problems from other projects to this project. EvilFreD (talk) 16:39, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- I'm actually suggesting exporting a solution from this one to the other. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 16:46, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Make that the cat wise. There was no need to post this on Moira's talkpage on this project since you were discussing issues on nlwiki (or rather: attacking the system and other contributors). Her talkpage on nlwiki would have been a better choice and would've been less easy to be mistaken for an act of bad faith. There's a difference between actually trying to be helpful and trying to appear helpful so to able oneself to import problems from other projects. Besides, WP:AGF is already a policy on nlwiki. In your case I would suggest starting at the end. EvilFreD (talk) 17:39, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- If, here, I launched an AfD in which I blatantly assumed bad faith, lied about the article having sources, and mocked the contributor's English, I would rightly expect a rocket from the closing mod. If policies on Dutch wiki are the same, the failure to apply them suggests they are something of a dead letter. Having seen how dysfunctional the Dutch wiki is, I'm happy to suggest improvements to those involved in that project, but I won't be going there again. It isn't worth the mental effort of writing Dutch, for one thing. You know, even just getting a glimpse from outside the bubble might help you over there. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 17:50, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

- EvilFreD, mulling over what you say, I think you might have put your finger on the sore spot: any group that sees pointing out failures as "attacking the system and other contributors" has learnt the lessons of Glasnost too well. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 18:50, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

[edit]I have granted rollback rights to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. Geblokkeerd
[edit]@MoiraMoira: Dag Moira Moira,
