Clean-up question

I noticed you made this diff. Any reason you changed the n dashes to hypens? It's just I've been changing them in the opposite direction, which can't be very productive. Flowerparty 20:26, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

No problem, yeah I agree the hyphens are easier. I should've siad I was going by WP:ALBUM#Track listing, which I guess you're not aware of. I won't argue about it though, I'd never even noticed there was a difference between a dash and a hyphen till I started editing here. Flowerparty 11:01, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Succesful RfA!

Thank you for your support during my RfA! The community has decided to make me an administrator, and there's work to be done. I look forward to seeing you around the project in the future, and if you see me do anything dumb, let me know right away! Regards, CHAIRBOY () 23:39, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Inanna

Hi, thanks for helping with Inanna's sockpuppets on TRNC and Turkish Cypriots. Inanna originally started editng Wikipedia by changing the numbers of all these articles to favour Turkey. After she got an account, she has been blocked a few times for violating the 3RR and now uses sockpuppets to avoid the policy. Her opinions on almost everything is the Turkish POV, and she has openly stated that she hates all Greeks (including poor me). She has also threated to hack people's computers. IMO the answer to this problem is: don't entertain her (ie don't revert her immediately, wait a couple of hours first, for her to get fed up and walk away from her PC). Also, I've been itching to nominate someone for adminship, I have asked many users and they have all declined. I notice that you seem to have ambitions in that direction, so if you like, I'll nominate you. Latinus 22:14, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I've never done this before - here goes:

Latinus 22:52, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Don't forget to link to your previous RFAs, to answer the questions and to link your page to WP:RFA. Latinus 22:53, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

You've been through three RFAs so far - it must be very stressful, how do you cope (with checking your watchlist every two minutes). Latinus 23:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Awww!

Any time, darling ;) I was telling nothing but the truth anyway! Btw, I saw your note at your page. In this dark moment, it may be hard for you to see the light that all those who love you shine on you. Never forget that there's a lot of people who care about you and your feelings. Many of us here do. Cheer up, my friend! Kisses, Phædriel tell me - 00:02, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

No worries

Hey, relax, I'm sure that wasn't really representative of your behaviour in general, and I'm sure you regret having said it and have learned from it. But it does suggest you need to chill out a bunch, really, practise chilling out, it's a valuable skill. Peace, Pete.Hurd 04:35, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza

Hi SWD!

You've left Esperanza :( Any reason why? Anything I can do to help you? Hope you're okay. ➨ REDVERS 23:01, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I'm really sorry to hear that. Please, if it's something I or someone else in Esperanza has done to offend you, please let one of us know and it'll be put right.
If you're truly determined to go and I can't convince you not to, then I won't bother you again (it's not fair on you) but you should know you will be missed at Esperanza. If, as it looks, you're going from the 'pedia as a whole, then that's truly a loss to the project and to all of us.
If you're sure, though, then go in peace, enjoy yourself, and walk with friends, my friend. You deserve nothing less. ➨ REDVERS 23:10, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Please stay!

From the depths of our hearts, please stay, SWD!
Phædriel tell me
Please, please reconsider your decision, SWD. A failed RfA can be a terrible experience, but you've gone through worse. Lots of us love you and value your contributions and your presence, whether you're an admin or not. Soon, sooner than you think, you'll get there - but please think that, where you're going, there's no turning back. Do you really want, when you inevitably return to WP and see how great it is, and miss your place here, look behind and think "Damn! I should have stayed..." and wish to return to this very moment and choose a different path? Please, don't make things more painful to you than they already are. Please stay! - Phædriel tell me - 23:54, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Your RfA

You removed it before I got a chance to support you! No fair! Well, enjoy your break from Wikipedia, and whatever you are doing or wherever you are, I hope you're finding the solace you require. Cheers mate. -- Francs2000 00:11, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Same here, I was going to vote to support you. Btw, I figured out what SWD316 means: "Serving Wikipedia Diligently, 316 days a year." Now, those 49 remaining days off have to last you all year long - don't use them all up now ;-). NoSeptember talk 00:28, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Lucky I stole that fake message prank from you before you left.... Have a good one. But seriously, I'm sick of people up & leaving just cause they fail a few times on a stupid Adminship! I mean, c'mon, what does it really give you? Respect from people you'll never meet, a cleaning mop & better tools to go round wiping up other's messes on a virtual encyclopedia! It shouldn't be something that people leave over! Just cause only one person gets elected class president a year doesn't mean the rest of the school has to leave in a huff! I don't know you too well, but I don't want to see another great editor leave because of something as pathetic as a failed RfA. I mean, didn't you fail an RfA fpur times before? I'm amased you had the guts to stay that many times. Why leave now? It's not that anyone hates you cause you failed your RfA, nor are they saying that you're too stupid to pass a RfA, but they simply don't want you as an admin right now. I'm not gonna give you a mushy message or a barn star to make you stay, but I'm gonna say that you can either leave or stay. It's up to you. In the end, all we are is ourselves........ Hey, justwanted to let you know that I removed a nasty message that was left here. It's in the history, but don't worry, it was just a personal attack, nothing important. I havent heard from you in a while, but I have stopped by to see how you are doing. I can fully understand, now, that after 4 rfas and RL problems (FWIW, I am feeling a little down for the selfsame reason as you) you're feeling down. I'm not going to beg you to stay, but I will say that your contributions were not wasted, and that you will be missed by many of us. Your wikiholic score

I saw that you removed your score from the Top 20 because apparently other users think my Wikiholic score is fake so I'm removing it and reading the previous #20 "score". If you think that my comment on your RFA meant this, you're really wrong. What I meant was that I thought you were too infatuated with being No.1. I was not implying that I thought your score was fake. I'm sorry to hear you're leaving, and I hope that my comment did not play any part in this, because, I hope you know, I have a lot of respect for you and I think you're a great guy.--May the Force be with you! Reverts

Hello SWD316. I'm afraid I must take issue with several reverts you have made.

  • Kurt Angle. You reverted "ankle lock" to "Angle lock". WWE.com lists the move as "Ankle lock", which is the official name of the move. This issue has been repeatedly discussed on the talk page.
  • Dave Finlay. Countries are never listed in the statbox, British wrestlers should have their height and weight listed in imperial units first, and Finlay currently uses an Air raid crash, not a emerald frosion. McPhail 21:12, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Mark Calaway. The moves added by User:Nightmare SE were, in some cases, repetitions or improperly linked. In addition, while the PWI Years listing added to most articles is a relatively useful means of comparing wrestlers, including PWI listings for every year is unecessary (is being ranked #46 really an achievement?) Note that the user in question has failed to give an edit summary or to argue for retaining his/her (dubious) edits.

These are all of course open to debate, but I think there is a strong case for overturning your reverts. Thanks. McPhail 21:12, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

User Page award

Congratulations, Moe Epsilon/Archive 6! Your user page has been nominated for the Esperanza User Page Award! Five judges will look over your user page and award it 1-10 points in four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

But first, you must be chosen as a finalist. If your user page is chosen as one of the five finalists, you'll have the chance to win an award created just for having a great user page!

More information can be found on this page.

Admin's noticeboard

Hi SWD.

I notice you replied to David Gerard's comments on WP:AN. It's possibly worth pointing out that these last lines were jokes - "blocking 0.0.0.0/0" means blocking every IP on the planet from editing (hey, it would stop all the stupidity...), and meta:Friends of gays should not be allowed to edit articles is an old, long-running joke on Wikipedia stemming from the amount of vandals that seem to really, really want to tell us their friend Jeff is gay. Just thought I'd point this out before you get worried... this entire thing is a rather messy fiasco, but those bits were humourous :-) Shimgray | talk | 23:17, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Patronized

That's ok. The use of those bluelinks irritates me somewhat, and I was already irritated by Linuxbeak's faintly ridiculous approach to the situation. I mean, it's not like every admin and established editor doesn't already know that they should be cool, civil etc and so, when they stop being it's not accidental usually. It seems a little bit like saying "and please remember to eat dinner with your knife and fork" — just sort of generally unnecessary. There was also an implication (by your indentation, at least) that I was making personal attacks. I wasn't at all; I was being critical, certainly, but that's a completely different ballpark to making character attacks. -Splashtalk 14:19, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

My admin request went up in flames. (But thanks anyways!)
Hey, SWD316, I wanted to thank you for your support of my (unfortunately unsuccessful) request for adminship. The final tally was 37/16/5, which fell short of the needed 75-80% for "consensus". I really had no idea (before I was so kindly notified by you and others) that non-admins were supposed to put things like {{test}} on vandals' talk pages! Thanks for informing me of that, and also for supporting my RFA in spite of it. I don't know if or when I'll go up for nomination again, but even if I don't, I will try not to betray the trust that you and 36 others were willing to place in me. Sorry, my mistake

Sorry about the reversion. I thought when following a vandal that I had the top edit. Something went wrong with updates, probably in my brain and not in Wikipedia. It was somebody who put a topic "Loser! ;-) ". Whoever it is has been making trouble elsewhere and is obviously not a new Wikipedian. P0M 04:51, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

I know what it's for. Don't talk down to me. There is absolutely no reason to link my comments to my IP. I have a user page.
