FL: Numbered highways in Amenia (CDP), New York

[edit]

Hi, I stumbled across Numbered highways in Amenia (CDP), New York the other day and was a little bit suprised it was a FL because it seemed a bit short. I noticed you stated in its FLC that it is "probably exempt from the 10-item rule, as shown in previous FLCs of this kind". I wasn't aware of this, so I had a look but couldn't find these other similar short FLCs you spoke of. So I was just wondering if you could point me to them. Many thanks, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 17:09, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I still that particular page looks more of a GA than an FL, but lets face it there are a lot a better things to worry about than this pages specific classification, so I won't be continuing along this line of enquiry any further. Best wishes, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 19:18, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Busy, busy, busy

[edit]

I didn't mean to let this blow in the wind; life has been a bit busy with school and work (and now this haha). I will aim to take some photos for the page when it gets nice out as well. Are there any other local road pages you feel are in dire need? Give me a few and I can begin working soon enough. ~ ωαdεstεr16«talkstalk» 18:08, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New York Route 32

[edit]

I believe I found a minor mistake or oversight in the route description of New York Route 32, possibly simply made by someone not all that familar with differences of town/ hamlet/ village boundaries in the CD,- 32 doesnt go through Green Island but the article says it goes from Albany to Menands, to Watervliet to Green Island and into Cohoes, in reality it goes through Maplewood right after Watervliet, Maplewood is a hamlet of the town of Colonie; it actually goes through the town twice, once leaving Albany, because Menands is a village WITHIN the town of Colonie and then leaving Menands it goes through Schuyler Heights (another hamlet of the town of Colonie), THEN it leaves the town of Colonie and enters the city of Wateverliet where Broadway changes names then 32 turns left on to another street named Broadway after I think 3 or 4 lights then makes the turns mentioned in the article, then enters the town of Colonie again, this time in the hamlet of Maplewood, then it enters the city of Cohoes. Green Island is on the other side of I-787 from Maplewood/Colonie and 32 never enters it. I saw that you were one of the people to contact for helping in editing the article and since it is a FA article I wanted to run it by you before I changed it. Also do I need to do a citation or is this a case where citations dont really make sense?Camelbinky (talk) 03:35, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm going ahead and changing it to reflect the reality of where the road actually goes. Hope I dont step on any toes. I have not heard from either you or the other person mentioned on the page, since you both are busy and have more duties as admins and this is minor, I think it would be ok to change without waiting for an answer back first. I am not going to source it, as I dont normally work on road articles and dont know exactly how you would source where a road goes, I hope when you have time you can teach me if there is an accepted way. I'd hate for someone well-intentioned to delete something that is factual because my information is not sourced.Camelbinky (talk) 01:51, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Re: JBC3 massive edits

[edit]

This is in response to the message you left on my talk page. If other editors are complaining about my "massive" additions, they have not done so on my talk page, and I see no mention of such on your talk page either. Nor do I feel the articles are "really bad". Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and no one is supposed to have page ownership. As such, I created the pages providing what I knew I could, hoping that other users would be able to pitch in or that I could return later to fill in the gaps.

There are so many crap articles out there with literally one sentence for an introduction and no body, others with paragraph after paragraph of unsourced text. I don't make vandalism edits; I contribute factual information to the encyclopedia. I feel like I am being unfairly targeted here.

Please tell those editors that have a problem with me in the future to say something directly to me first. Otherwise it seems to me like you are the one who has a problem with me. In the meantime, I'll continue to touch up the pages you mentioned above, to the best of my ability (whatever that may be).

--JBC3 (talk) 17:28, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Funny you should pick this moment to talk ...

[edit]

I wondered where you'd been, now that I've long since finished uploading all my WPSubway pics to Flickr.

And it's funny you left that message right then and there, because at this exact moment I've been working on Sloatsburg (Metro-North station), filling in some detail about the Brown gateposts, as they're part of the NHRP listing for Sloat's Dam and Mill Pond (I added that nom to the article as a source; you might want to look through it).

BTW, would you mind if I replaced the sign photo (which creates copyright problems anyway) with one of the gateposts?

Interestingly, one of the other Sloatsburg NRHP noms mentions that Jacob Sloat built the first station in town sometime in the 1840s. Did you run across anything about this? Perhaps we should see if the local historical society can help out on that one. Daniel Case (talk) 15:25, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Jersey Route 158

[edit]

Please clarify the following statement in the article:

The upper-level was to have a clearance of 18 feet (5.5 m) and there was to be a 230 feet (70 m) long drawbridge in the center. The upper level was to be used by the new passenger line and the lower level was to be used for the freight line of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

It seems to me that the drawbridge was in the lower level (that suggests a statement in the following paragraph of the article). How does the clearance fit in; that is it the clearance between the river and the upper deck seems unbelievable – there would not be place for the lower deck. Is it the clearance between the two decks or the clearance between the river and the lower deck? --Matthiasb (talk) 16:12, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:2 things I wanted to tell you

[edit]

Thanks for bringing those issues to my attention. I will continue to refrain to do GA reviews for the time being. As for the NJSCR articles, I will try to find other sources. I can add citations to the state statutes and can try adding historical information from maps. I have a couple of maps of NJ from circa 1970 but unfortunately do not have an extensive collection of old NJ maps. If you or anyone else on Wikipedia has access to old maps, it would be helpful to use the information from the maps as a source for the articles. Dough4872 (talk) 15:30, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My remissness (is that a word?)

[edit]

I am so sorry...I never even saw the January message (don't ask me how I missed it). Road pictures was not something I was gonna do in snow and slush, and last Fall I was finishing my Masters, so other stuff got in the way. But Spring has finally sprung in Syracuse (the crocuses are a-blooming), and I don't have to watch basketball any more this season  :(.....so, I will definitely get out there and get them! I'm actually in FL for a few days right now, so it won't be before next weekend at the earliest, and you know how iffy weather can be in Syracuse, even in the spring! You still need the St. Joes pic, too, right? I literally live 1/2 mile from there......again I'm so sorry...that one I have no excuses for not getting! Portal:Finger Lakes

[edit]

I made some changes to Portal:Finger Lakes/DYK, changed the max per set from 3 hooks to only 2. This increased our total number of completed sets from 7 to 11, and we only need one more hook for 12 completed sets of 2 hooks each. (Makes for more dynamism in portals that don't have as many hooks due to narrower topics, I did this recently at Portal:Gilbert and Sullivan as well.) I will probably work on creating an article for that 12th hook soon, and then we are probably all ready to go for a portal peer review. OK, look there's no harm done. This is a virtual project not reality. Thing can get dramatic here, but then later you realise they don't matter. However, there are times when you know that wikipedia is not good for you - it is hurting real life and real relationships and becoming a rival to reality. That's the time to quit. Sometimes quitting for a few hours will do, sometimes longer, othertimes people need to say "my life is better without this". Seriously, switch off your computer for at least 48 hours and then reassess what works for you. If wikipedia makes you miserable, quit.--Scott Mac (Doc) 15:14, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration request

[edit]

I have posted a request to the Arbitration Committee to remove your admin bit, at least until matters settle down. Experience shows it can be better to take a break early than push it to the edge and destroy your reputation here, and the problems you noted in your posts sound major ones for you.

Please read the post; I hope it helps. You can reply by email to any clerk or arbitrator, or here, with a post to go on that page. I hope you find life easier and manage to take the break you need and come back eventually, much more relaxed and settled, and with less stress. Its fine, I just wish that I could have the block taken off. I originally posted it saying that I requested a possible desysopping, and well, its necessary in the long run. A lot of off-wiki pressure has been causing problems which have been falling onto Wiki itself. Is it possible that I can be unblocked. I don't need the sysop bit anymore, and I just want to see into finishing the tasks I had. Maybe it would keep me away from what's going on here.Mitchazenia :  Chat  Trained for the pen 15:45, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll unblock you straight off if you say you won't ever do anything like this again. Gwen Gale (talk) 15:50, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right now, I just feel that I need to keep my mind off what I have done and just do my article editing normally. It'll probably just cause me to lose focus of the drama I have caused. I did post that I am already undergoing treatments/help for this problem. It had been bottling up for some time, and just needed to come out. I didn't mean to disrupt the project, I just wanted it where I could be desysopped and end it. I don't think it'll happen, because I am retiring from my wikiproject in terms of helping them out on the talk page, as that was the stress that finally broke it.Mitchazenia :  Chat  Trained for the pen 15:51, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please let us know when you're ready to say you won't stir things up with threats of violence, then. Gwen Gale (talk) 15:56, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I echo Gwen. An assurance would be a nice step forward.  :) NonvocalScream (talk) 16:03, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

<-- I have been informed that the ArbCom is going wild. So, well, yeah I don't think I'll do that. Right now I am looking into a publisher off-wiki, and am doing my best to calm down. Think of this clearly. I am not going to do this again, because I am going to look for more things to do than just Wiki in my life. Its also a reason this occurred. I want to tell you that I am not interested in looking for my adminship back, being I barely passed in the first place. Anyway, that ends about it. Again, I don't want it back, I don't think I've deserved it for several months now.Mitchazenia :  Chat  Trained for the pen 16:25, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
