Hello Delzen, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you created Davidson High School (Saskatchewan), which is good, but could you add a link to the school's web site (and/or other links related to the school). When I do a Google I only find the web sites of other school(s) with an identical name, but a different location. --Rob 19:16, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, as Nandesuka appears to be busy, I've taken a look at that article. Was the original taken from another website? I just need to know so that I know whether to delete the original as a copyvio and move the temp page in, or merge the histories. Please respond on my talk page. Thanks! Hermione1980 02:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for stepping in, Hermione -- I've been absolutely swamped. Delzen, I apologize for my unseemly delay, and I hope you'll forgive me. The stuff on the temp page looks good to me. The stuff on the main page was a copyvio from a web site (where should be in the copyvio notice). I'd suggest deleting the existing main page, and then re-creating the article with the text from the temp page. Nandesuka 02:43, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. ::phew:: At least I know how to delete and move. I'm not so sure about merging histories... Hermione1980 02:47, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I want to thank you for being so patient and understanding about this article! If there's anything else you need help with, just let me know. Hermione1980 01:29, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - Re your question about thanking folks, please see Wikipedia:Kindness Campaign. There are a variety of barnstars people use, as well as the less obtrusive Image:WikiThanks.png (to see in context click on any of the user pages that refer to the image). -- Rick Block (talk) 17:12, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the beer! I'm actually more of a Guinness man, but as long as it's not Bud Lite I'll drink it. -- Rick Block (talk) 00:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting articles

[edit]

A good place to start is Wikipedia:Deletion policy. The short form is that there are a set of criteria for "Speedy deletion" that any admin can use to delete an article quickly (see WP:CSD), and then there is a more involved process called "articles for deletion" (WP:AFD) where people spend a few days trying to reach a consensus as to whether to keep or delete an article. My honest advice is that you stay as far away from all the deletion stuff as possible, because it will only depress you.

I deleted the article you mentioned, though, as it was clear nonsense. Want to write a useful stub in its place? :-) Nandesuka 04:10, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome!

Fair use rationale for Image:Briarpatch Cover.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Briarpatch Cover.jpeg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:42, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatchewan Portal Creation Drive
  • Please comment about the formation of a new concept - a Saskatchewan Portal

Take a peek at the Canadian Portal. There are four provinces, BC, ON, PQ, and Nunavut. There are also four Canadian cities with portals of their own as well.

Portals are pages intended to serve as "Main Pages" for specific topics or areas. Portals may be associated with one or more WikiProjects; unlike WikiProjects, however, they are meant for both readers and editors of Wikipedia, and should promote content and encourage contribution.[1]

A unique concept by Portal India was to add a quiz as well India/Quiz

Portals introduce the Wikipedia reader to new developments by the wikiproject showing selected biographies, articles, pictures to feature periodically, and archive the previous suggestions. The portal may list information introducing the portal subject, categories, did you know, to do, other wikiprojects and news features as well.

Whereas Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan is an organization created to promote Saskatchewan usage and participation in Saskatchewan article editing and development.

  • The Academics and alumni articles have been created to assist the U of S article
  • Category sorting - more to do - ensure all articles are within a category/multiple categories.
    • Photographs on Wiki commons have been resorted into categories and subcategories.
  • Prepare a welcome/invitation template for recruiting potential members
  • Create new articles (e.g. Sports in Saskatchewan, Health in Saskatchewan)...
    • Sports in Saskatchewan is a newly created article, and is receiving help from afield to further the sections and edit copy.
  • Associate famous personalities to their home communities (e.g. Lorne Babiuk to Canora, Saskatchewan)...
    • As New articles are created check the wiki link at the bottom of the article title 'What Links Here. Here related articles and biographies are listed which should have reciprocal links or information upon the newly created main article page.
  • Geographical classification of Saskatchewan (consensus needed, e.g according to Weather Canada/Environment Canada)
    • Discussion is invited to help organize the areas of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject.

Original Reporter - Victor D PARLE

What's New?

Northern Saskatchewan Focus' For the northern areas of Saskatchewan these are newly created articles: Ajawaan Lake, Nistowiak Falls. There are major expansions made to Prince Albert National Park, Churchill River. These are primarily natural areas, landforms etc. If others have this interest, there is a lot to do such as obvious entries such as Lac La Ronge (and the provincial Saskatchewan parks ), and some of the famous lakes in the north, some named for explorers and fur traders. Saskatchewan Roads and Highways Red links to Saskatchewan roads

When looking through some Saskatchewan Highway articles (especially those containing intersection lists), you may notice that there are red links to potential Saskatchewan road articles (especially Range and Township Roads). However, many of these roads do not appear on the List of Saskatchewan provincial roads. If you happen to read over any highway articles, and you notice a red link to a road that does not appear on the provincial roads list, please add the road's name to the appropriate section on that list. Eventually, I believe that we will have a list of all known Saskatchewan rural roads. Thank you. Ultraflame | talk 01:35, 7 August 2007

    3. add GA or FA to to the class parameter of {{WikiProject Canada}} articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
    4. add stub to the class parameter if a stub tag is present on the article page.
    5. Replace the old tag {{Saskatchewanproject}} with the new parent wikiproject tag: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=| importance=}} and if {{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
    6. add to the class area FL for any Featured-class lists articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DHSlogo.jpg

    [edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DHSlogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:30, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Saskatchewan Project New year's resolution

If the Wikipedia Saskatchewan Project pages could talk - what would they wish for - the types of growth and changes for 2008 for Wikipedia Saskatchewan pages.

    1. Develop a bizzilion awesome articles about Saskatchewan so the WWW visitor is wowed by our province ( and survive those silly AFD tags!!! ) SriMesh | talk 02:47, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    2. Add your one or several Wikiproject New Years Resolutions here!
    3. Develop quality articles. Increase the amount of good and Featured articles about Saskatchewan related content.
    4. Develop top importance articles about Saskatchewan such as those about crown corporations. the provincial government and its several departments. From the Saskatchewan wiki meeting held back on 23 June 2007 it was discussed to develop an article on Health in Saskatchewan, and to improve to feature status articles: Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Regina.
    5. The University of Saskatchewan became a good article to celebrate the 2007 anniversary of campus, and should now have a peer reveiw to continue on to becoming a feature article. The List of University of Saskatchewan alumni was developed to assist this article and help would be appreciated providing citations for each entry, and to help add to the list.

    Highway Picture Template

    • Just as there is only one image needed for upload for Saskatchewan locator maps, and then various towns can be updated upon this image. So, too there should be a highway picture template, so that the various numbered highways 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914, etc can all have their own image without needing to create a bizzilion numbered images online.

    2004 Election

    • Our 2004 Saskatchewan election has resulted in an amazing number of politician biographies coming online! This was an awesome achievement, and something to be proud of!
    • Qyd (talk · contribs) and Arctic.gnome (talk · contribs) are editors of a wide variety of Canadian related articles, and of note as of this date is the enormous amount of work they have undertaken to help amalgamate all the various provincial wikiprojects and Canadian sub projects into one umbrella assessment department. This unique assessment department means that Saskatchewan related articles can be assessed for their own provincial merit, and also belong to the Canadian wikiproject as well. It also means that editors from both Canada wikiproject and Saskatchewan wikiproject can unite in their efforts to provide banners and ratings to articles. This will result in a huge improvement in quality on wikipedia, resulting in Saskatchewan's spotlight award for Qyd (talk · contribs). January 2008 newsletter Please pop into the Spotlight Department and read all the brief introductory Wikipedia Saskatchewan bio. Congratulations are sent out to Qyd (talk · contribs)] and Arctic.gnome (talk · contribs) at this time.
    • Please feel free to sign up as a Spotlight administrator and nominate more excellent and notable Saskatchewan editors on Wikipedia who deserve attention, and honour. For every wikipedia user who is mentioned in the spotlight department, they will receive a Wikipedia Saskatchewan Ribbon on their user pages for excellent service! Every newsletter will bring an update to the Spotlight Department, so please keep tuned for other excellent contributors.

    The Editor's Desk

    Welcome and Happy New Year!:

    • Just as panic begins to settle in as to what in the world the next newsletter should mention, new areas of development and growth come about. The coming year of 2008 should provide not only more Saskatchewan articles, but also more articles with higher ratings with the assistance of more editors, and a new assessment department umbrella. The highways and roads project has given a good base for development, and to strengthen the presence and notability of roads and highways and effort is being called upon to help these articles improve, now that they too are under the assessment umbrella.
    • Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the Newsletter. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

    Saskatchewan Roads and Highways

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways The WikiProject Canada Roads is undergoing an overhaul. It is aiming to produce some Good articles and Featured articles of highway content pertaining to Canada, and for the Saskatchewan Roads and Highways for Saskatchewan highways. As Saskatchewan is still a work in progress this is a challenging endeavour for as the guidelines are followed as laid out at either Highway wikiproject, they become red link farms because wikilinked articles have not been developed regarding the communities, provincial and regional parks and rural municipalities which the highways meander through. Please keep apprised of the progress, and if any Saskatchewan articles rise above stub we will list it on the main page.

There is also discussion started about assessment and navigation boxes on the talk page. Please peek in to add any comments you may have.

If you want to add your name as a particpant to the Canada Roads wikiproject [here]. To join the Saskatchewan Roads wikiproject sign on the main here please.

Recently articles Saskatchewan Highway 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914 have been improved, but they need more help so they can become articles nominated as Good articles. Please help out if you are able, even to create community and rural municipality articles for these Highway articles would be an enormous help.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CSLP logo.png

    [edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CSLP logo.png.

Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:11, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Welcome
    • We’re excited to announce that User:Presidentman has joined WikiProject Saskatchewan as our Editor in Chief. Presidentman will oversee editorial content and the Saskatchewan Wikiproject community contributions on the Wikiproject newsletter. Presidentman has also successfully developed the Picture of the Day project and has been active on wikipedia for close to three years in a plethora of projects enriching wikipedia with close to 3,000 contributions. The transition between our old editor and the new has been smoother than any of us could have hoped for — SriMesh wrote their last newsletter article for January, 2010, and Presidentman started up without missing a beat for February 2010. The previous years for SriMesh, the past editor, had been richly rewarding, seeing subscriptions grow, informing interested editors of developments and changes to the Saskatchewan wikipedia community and supporting activities on the Saskatchewan Wikiproject. It is now time for me to move to new writing projects to finish, and further responsibilities which are vying for my attention. Please join me in welcoming Presidentman to the their new position! Presidentman is working on a host of new features and an updated look, which will take things to a new level. It is wonderful to have a new editor to bring in the new year! Expect great things.
    Welcome Presidentman, and best wishes!
Your wonderful act of kindness to take on editorial capacity of the Saskatchewan Wikiproject news letter is much appreciated! Thank you so much!!!

The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
